Lex didn't know who this Horace guy was, or even what he looked like, but Lex did know that Horace was, in perfect honesty, a massive d**k. Sure, monsters and demons wouldn't have the mercy to not pull a girl by her hair and use long locks as a weapon against her, but they were humans. Now Claudia had a bob, which was cute - because his sister was always cute - but she was reluctant. Claudia's hair had been long since they'd first met.
The man reclines in his armchair, polishing the golden gilding of an oddly silent pistol. A few mental coughs are exchanged, then the griffon pipes up in his usual lordly matter. < So, growing a spine, finally? >
Lex nods curtly, standing and simultaneously tucking the pistol between his jeans and base layer shirt. Leather gloves are pulled on, and the man was out the door, making sure to lock the house up.
--
Lex stood on the battlefields, scanning for the man he only had seen in a thumbnail picture, a small smile playing on his face. It was an odd invitation, to be certain, but Lex had no other way of contacting the trainee.
< Try not to hospitalize this one? >
<< Of course. >>

In less than fifteen minutes, Horace was on the field, scanning the people there. It was honestly hard to pick out anyone just from the tiny pictures on twitter. On the way there, Jannisari had urged him to consider the ulterior motives of such an invitation. However, there had been no time to research - Les was an as-yet unknown quantity. It made Horace a little nervous. Finally, he thought he saw someone who fit the description. He jogged over. Damn, but the ******** was tall. "Hey, are you Lex? I'm Horace. Horace Nokoni. To what reason do I owe the pleasure?" Of course, pleasure was always debatable. He noted the gloves with interest - wondering if they were for fashion or function. If he'd been able to do research, he would know this. Ugh, he was slacking. Sighing, he tied up his hair into a tight topknot; no sense it letting it be a weakness.

Lex caught the glance to his gloves, and he smirked. Horace was apparently quite intelligent - or at least had common sense. The hurried tying of the topknot, the way he held himself. "Lex Jamil. The pleasure is mine." The taller man crooned, nodding his head at Horace.
< It would be honorable to tell him why you dragged him out here. >
"I heard of you from a friend of a friend, and I like to know all incoming Hunters." Lex lied blatantly as he explained the invitation to Horace, unbuttoning his coat as he did so and setting it aside, folded neatly. "I also felt like getting a bit of practice in."
Lex took a few steps back, dipping his head. Horace would have the first move.

If Lex liked to know all the incoming hunters, why hadn't Horace seen him on the field before? It was an odd inconsistency, but easily explained away. "People are pretty gossipy on the island, though I don't know that I've done anything worthy of it." He grinned and eyed Lex. He couldn't tell if it was an invitation to begin or not. The coat was discarded and Horace mourned that - coats were excellent leverage, but with his close combat weapon, anything was really grabbable. {take advantage where you can get it. he is using surprise by hiding his weapon. interesting.} Now that, that nod - that was an invitation. With a soft hiss, Dr. Jannisari appeared on his fists. He bounced on the balls of his feet for a moment, eyes flickering over Lex. He rushed forward and swung his fist out towards the man's shoulder. Horace had misjudged, a bit, used to fighting smaller people, and the blow was not particularly hard. He ducked back, eyes narrowing, waiting for Lex to show his weapon. HP: 40/40 DMG: 3 CHG: 1/3

Lex inwardly sighed at the weapon showing up - he hated close combat. He couldn't duck, dodge, or weave very well - being a giant didn't lend well to swift movements. Unfortunately, this situation was all too common for his taste; hence why he didn't spar much. He'd learned over the years that he'd need to fight face to face, even if it left him wide open with no way of blocking swinging fists or falling sword blades. However, that was preferable to the running and flailing of his trainee years and the ego crushing silliness of it all.
< You'll be fine. This Fear is weak. >
"People on this island will gossip about a ham sandwich." Lex remarked as he lunged forward quite suddenly, grabbing Horace's arm with his left hand keeping his grip firm but not crushing, pulling Regal out from his slacks with his right hand, and sticking the barrel into Horace's ribcage all in on swift motion. "You've seen the way they act on social media." He sneered, pulling the trigger with a quiet snort less so at Horace and more at the spoken subject, sinking a bullet of golden light and melody into the man.

Lex moved forward, more swiftly than Horace expected. His eyes narrowed for a second, fixing on Lex's hands even as one grabbed him - was he another close range fighter? No, dammit, a gun. They weren't bad, just annoying as ******** - it was like chasing a bouncy ball around a playground. Horace tried to jerk away, or at least twist away from the barell pressed against his side, but the other hunter's fingers were steel around his arm. As the bullet hit, it shattered along his shield with a tinkle of melody and an unexpected force. His pupils dilated briefly as his body jerked. He sucked in a shuddery breath. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. He used the few seconds - that lull after a bullet- to twist completely free of Lex. Jannisari scored briefly along the other man's skin, purely accident. Horace needed to catch his breath. "Not bad - for a gunman. Had worse - a lot worse." In fact, some of the few times he'd won a spar had been against a gun user. Specifically, Claude. He grinned widely, something like anticipation glitterly blackly in the corners of his eyes. HP: 27/40 DMG: 1 CHG: 2/3

"Taunting will get you nowhere." Lex smirked, taking a few steps back and out of immediate range. If Horace wanted to attack, he'd have to work for it.
Lex fired at the man's feet, hoping to make him jump back or at least be cautious when it came to approaching him. Again, close combat was difficult when you were a giant wielding a pistol. "Prove to me you've had worse, then."

"Ah, but it was a compliment, not a taunt!" He watched the other man move and managed, just barely, to not jump back as Lex's bullet hit one of his feet. Instead, he hissed in a breath slowly and wiggled his toes. Not bad. He darted forward, swerving a bit to make a harder target. Horace's elbow snapped up into Lex's chin, then he kicked out, trying to catch Lex in his knee. Sometimes, it was fun to fight a taller man and if he took out a kneecap hard enough, Lex would go down. "I don't have to prove anything. Lex grunted as the weapon landed, skidding across his shield with an excusable impact. The Lifer sneered in disgust, instinctively shoving Horace out of immediate melee range with a flat palm.
< Remember that, it should be useful.>
"How vulgar." Lex shook his head, eyes narrowing to near slits. The man he faced was rude, vile, a dirty fighter. Just like the monsters. "It sounds to me as though you find enjoyment in being defeated?"

He skidded back, clipping Lex in the forearm as he did so. Pushy, pushy. He eyed Lex thoughtfully. Vulgar? Horace hadn't heard that before. "Not really - or, maybe." He twirled a tekko around one finger. "Sometimes I think you can learn more in defeat than in victory." HP: 25/40 DMG: 1 CHG: 3/3

Lex stood his ground, wary eyebrow on Horace. The boy was odd, very odd. "While I agree that we learn most from our failures," a brief cough, what felt like a pointed stare from Regal. "Enjoying the process is very... masochistic."
It was Lex's way of politely telling Horace that he was ******** in the head. "So, I suppose if I pulled on your hair and used it as a handle to slam you on the ground, you'd enjoy that?"

Horace flushed, but still grinned expansively and shrugged. "A gentleman never tells his secrets, now, does he?" Then he was darting in close and Horace reached out, tangling his fist up in the front of Lex's shirt. The shirt was yanked, pulling Lex down just enough Horace winked and bashed his head forward into Lex's. He released his shirt and danced back, the ache of hgis head a small price too pay. Lex spat at Horace's feet as soon as the headbutt was said and done, snarling. It was purely instinct, an action not thought out. "You have little dignity, I see."
Lex cleared his throat, narrowing his eyes and aiming the pistol at Horace's prone form. "Who says I can't do both? Unlike a bottom feeder, I can pick you apart through many means."
Two shots, bouncing off Horace's shins.

Lex spat and Horace looked at him curiously. Interesting, that. Everyone, of course, had their own little triggers, weaknesses that could be exploited in fights. This knowledge was filed away next to Rep's aversion of touch, next to Peyton's small gasp when he'd pulled her hair. Actions and reactions. Lex was simply more annoying than some, he thought as the shield on his shins took the brunt of gunfire. He resisted the urge to grab one of his shins. "Botttom feeder? Are you so much loftier than your fellows? And what's the point of picking me apart? I'm a simple man, with simple desires." Almost lazily, Horace moved to Lex and punched him once and once once in his shoulder. He raised an eyebrow. "You, however... fighting you is boring." HP: 19/40 DMG: 3 CHG: 3/3

"Thinking and knowing are two different things, my friend." Lex boasted, head still reeling from Horace's skull bash, taking the rather weak punches with a face of disgust. "I don't exist to entertain you."
A small part of Lex wanted very badly to unleash Regal's charged rounds on this snot nosed child, but he held back. Lex tired of dragging people to the infirmary and patching them up himself- it was always an awkward situation. He opted instead for a sucker punch, right in the jaw. The Life smirked, backing up after having closed the distance. "Though it would be quite rude of me to bore you - and we can't have that."
