Patrols seemed a bit quiet as of late, and he could really put a finger on as to why. Not that he was complaining; the less youma to dust, the better for everyone -- civilians and senshi and knights -- involved. And also not that he dusted all that many youma in his time as a knight. Ashur wasn't much when it came to the fighting front, and in recent time he'd come to doubt his abilities in the battlefield. Sure, he could throw a punch, but he hadn't come into any situations that required to do any more significant than give the bad guys a bruise or black eye.
This was a war between people who could use magic; what use had his "shield" seen since he'd learned of its existence?
A sigh escaped him as he tried to skip another smooth stone across the lake's surface. "And the answer to that question is 'not much.' What's my prize, Steve?" he said in a mock game show host voice, his lip curling at the thought.

Winter had been busy! First was Christmas, and then Three Kings Day, and by now Daniel was finaly able to become Sailor Massalia and resume patrols, walking through Destiny City. Since meeting Lenka and Julienne he'd henshined once and it did exactly 0 good, but it didn't really stop him, the boy walking along calmly. It still surprised hi to feel auras, however, and the one he felt now seemed familiar, earning a curious blink before Massalia moved to investigate, blinking curiously at the notion. "Hello?" He asked, mentally cursing a small vocal crack. STUPID NEW PROBLEM.

He sensed the other aura some minutes ago but had tried to pay it no mind. When it came toward him though, he took a second to chuck one more stone into the lake ('cause let's face it, he's not very good at skipping stones) before dusting off his hands and walking towards whoever it was as well.
Soon enough he heard a voice -- a cracking one, at that -- and had to smile; it was a familiar voice, and when Ash jogged the rest of the way to meet his younger friend and, upon seeing that it was Massalia as he thought, he gave a wave.
"Halfway to becoming a man, there, Massalia?" he greeted, smile only widening. Seemed the night wouldn't be a complete waste of time, after all.

"It's barely started!" Massalia pouted, but didn't argue, shaking his head. "But Look!" And he spun. He was very pleased for being stronger and knew Ashur helped him, and helped well, and the boy grinned, looking to Ashur eagerly. "And I helped beat up a general! Cause a lot of what you told me helped!" The boy bounced over, hugging Ashur tightly.

"Then we should hang out more often 'cause who knows when it'll change completely. Could be a while." The Squire crossed his fingers jokingly, then laughed and returned the hug.
Pride and worry predominated his mixed feelings at the double-whammy style news the younger senshi had given him. "Glad I could help, but I'm not sure about the 'beat up a general' part," he said, pulling back to get a better look at Massalia. "Is that how this happened?" he asked at first, and then a myriad of other questions had floated into his brain right then, so he plucked just one more -- for now -- and brought it into the open.
"What in the heck were you doing in a fight with a general?"

"Sounds good!" Massalia beamed contentedly, then shook his head. "No- a kitty did it with her senshi." He paused. "A bigger senshi helped. But but he tried to hurt people. I didn't want him to." Massalia fidgeted shyly, blinking.

Ash wasn't overly familiar (read: at all familiar) with how senshi work, so Massalia's explanation only raised a few more questions about that, but it did comfort him a bit to know that the senshi hadn't been alone against the general. He gave Mass a pat on the shoulder again, more than understanding of the situation with all the violence and nastiness that comes up during battles.
Why in the hell younger kids were able to power up was beyond him, given that consideration.
But it was what it was. "Well I'm glad someone was around to help you. Try not to run into one and get into a fight if you're on your own, huh?"

"Only," Massalia accidentally squeaked, "If you stay safe too." He gave Ashur a worried look, brows raising. "Please?"

The concern coming from Massalia wasn't a big shocker to the Squire; he knew the senshi had a big heart and worried for the safety of his friends. He simple nodded, hoping to extinguish whatever concerns were coming to the boy's mind. "I'll do my best," he said, then gave a sigh.
"Actually I'm just about ready to call it a night. Not much happening anyway and I've got class tomorrow; don't really wanna fall asleep through it." Ash neglected to add "again" to the end of his sentene, but continued. "You might wanna head home soon, too."

"Are you sure you're okay?" Massalia worried - memories of a future he was worried for danced in his mind, or Almary and Subra - and he didn't want Almary so hurt, so... Broken down. "I... Don't want anyone sad because of everything."

His question, and really his concern, warranted serious thought. Was he okay? Yes, more or less. Could he have been better? Of course. He could be without certain memories. He could be without the struggles that came with being a knight. Life could have been a bit simpler for him, like it was before his awakening. Still, Ashur gave a small shake of his head. "I'm fine," he reassured his younger friend, trying to look as convincing as possible. "Just...tired, I guess."
As Massalia went on to voice a more personal concern, Ash sighed. "I'm gonna be real with you, Massalia," he started, "but you can't keep anyone from really being sad. You can be there though, to support them if nothing else." He did have such a good heart, though, and Ashur truly wished there was more he could say to help out his friend.

"Okay..." He said, wary, before hugging Ashur tightly, burying his face. "My friend, please let me help if I ever can?" He asked. "Even if I just listen." He didn't want anyone to go - not like Almary, or anybody else...

"I will," came his reply, slow and a little hesitant. He knew that the young senshi meant well, but he was never the sort to share his burdens with others. It was a way of opening up to someone, a way of trusting someone, that he'd never felt the need to do before. It was nothing against those who offered, just...it was a difficult thing for him to do, and he hoped that his friend would understand. If not now, then in the future if the topic ever came up again.
Ashur kept a good hold on Massalia as the boy hugged him, and he sighed and looked on, wondering why on earth someone would let a boy his age be involved in this war. He knew that there were others likely around Massalia's age that were also taking part, and he wondered why kids their age were necessary at all. They should be enjoying life, not worrying about theirs ending at the hands of a youma or worse.
When enough time had passed Ash eventually let the boy go, another sigh escaping him as he did. "I don't know if there's a way to communicate between senshi and knights, so how 'bout I give you my phone number? You can call me or text me and we can set up a meet, that way we don't have to wait until we run into each other to keep in touch."

Massalia offered a smile, not speaking further if Ashur wouldn't but he did want him to feel better. Stuck in a war or not, they shared a side and the twelve year old wanted his friend and mentor to know it was alright. Even though the boy was young, he knew the grown ups needed a little reassuring too, and her perked. "I can do that." And he fished out his senshi phone, holding it up. "I ave this!....I don't have a phone powered down, though."

He smirked at the boy's admission of not having a phone. Around his age Domnic didn't have one either, mostly because his father had kept him from getting a hold of that level of technology. He attributed it to another level of control the man wanted over his life; the thought came and passed without a second consideration. Ashur couldn't do with his mood souring, anyway, so he pushed it aside in favor of focusing on his young friend.
"That's alright," he said as he took hold of the phone. He'd never seen a senshi's phone before, and he was admittedly intrigued by it. Just a bit, anyway, and he quickly punched in his number before handing it back. He could ask his questions another time. "Just write it down when you get home, that way you have it on hand in case you need me."
