backdated awakening"Here Kitty, Kitty"
Panicked, a young woman ran through the park following something that didn't want to be caught. Muttering to herself she declared, "I don't like cats". Though that wasn't exactly a fair statement. This also wasn't exactly a fair situation.
The day was supposed to be easy, take Sir. Paddinton to the park and get some nature shots. The whole drive there was easy. The gray feline slept curled in her passenger seat. His owner adored him to a crazy level, the cat had his own room for crying out loud! Her poor car was going to end up reeking due to the requirement she have fresh fish for the venerable mister. That should mean the cat was persnickety but lazy.
Oh no, that was not her luck. For the first few shots, the luck played tricks on her. The cat stayed on the branch and even looked at the camera once. Then a bird took off. As her eyes rose to watch the bird, the cat took off as if his tail was on fire. This animal belonged to a judge, her mother was going to kill her.
Remotely locking her car was all she could do before taking off after the escaped convict. Every time her camera fell against her chest she winced. Not because it hurt, but because it jolted her with fear. The fear that one wrong hit and it would break. This was an expensive camera!
Crossing the street, not at a cross walk, took less courage and more lack of sense. Instead of watching where she as going, it was just blind running. More then one car honked at her but at least she made it safety to the other side. With the park at her back, there was no time to stop and catch her breath. If her eyes weren't playing tricks on her, the cat had taken off to the right down a smaller quite side street. "Here kitty kitty!" Calling out again after the animal, stupid cat may or may not have been muttered.Saint Sergio thought I'd go ahead and start it for when you have time. Go looking for one can and she finds a completely different one ^_^ If I need to change or redo it let me know, will be happy to.

Her stomach growled loudly as the cat moved through the darkness. This park seemed to be where to met senshi that needed awakening, or to fight youma that could easily be dusted. The snowshoe padded her way through the grass, trying not to rustle it too much. Why would she want to alert youma to where she would be? That was stupid! Yumi was not a stupid cat by any means. A little lazy? Sure, but what cat wasn't? Either way, her blue eyes looked out into the night, whiskers tingling a bit. Her tail flicked this way and that until something ran right past her, claiming they didn't like cats. Oh, well, that was always a fun truth. Yumi hung her head and just sighed to herself. Oh well. There was nothing else to do right now, so she started to follow the darting figure. This woman could draw attention if she's not careful! Better safe than sorry, that's what Yumi believed. Then they crossed the street and Yumi yowled and hissed the entire time, following after the girl. A game of cat and mouse, eh? Yumi was good at running and hunting. (At least she liked to believe she was.) And that's when she heard the woman calling for a cat. didn't she say she hated cats? She was so confused. Looking out ahead, she tried to spot this other feline that was giving this human so much trouble and then picked up speed to race forward, running along side of her a bit before jumping and climbing up on a tree. Was the cat up here?

Huh? Ava's run slowed down as she watched a cat run ahead of her. Watching this cat go up the tree, she had so sigh. Looking around, she tried to spot anyone looking for this cat. Looking back she carefully approached the tree, "Hi pretty kitty, have you seen a gray cat round here?" No sane person expected an answer, but it seemed to have a decent effect on Sir. Paddinton so why not this cat.
Approaching she brought a hand up to shield her eyes. "Now who is missing you?" With collar that pretty, there was no way this was just a stray cat. It was just a matter of getting close enough to check for a tag. Unless she was microchipped.
A rustle from high up in the tree diverted her attention long enough to renew her complaints about felines. At the moment there was no telling if the wound was from a squirrel, bird or the runaway cat.

Yumi's head canted to the side with the girl started talking to her. She would have arched a brow if she were being her normal self, but she had to be an earth cat and they did not have brows to arch! ...That she knew of. The snowshoe gave a purring answer and moved closer to that hand, sniffing at it and just tried to headbutt it into pets, but she was distracted now. Lady, I crossed a dangerous street for pets and you should pet me! Never mind the other cat she seemed to be looking for. Kepler wasn't here. Wait... She was supposed to be looking for this other cat. Yumi's head snapped up and she blinked slowly before jumping back down the tree. She sniffed the air a few times in a few different directions and gave a noise and bolted. She thought this was the way that gray cat went, in this other tree, not the one she originally jumped in. Come on, girl, this way! He's in this tree! When they got there, Yumi shimmied her way up the tree to jump from branch to branch, looking around for the missing cat. "Oh come on," she muttered, huffing as she clung to the trunk. "Your human is very worried." The real reason she followed the girl was because she felt something really familiar about her. Maybe, just maybe...

It was adorable when cats or dogs acted like they could understand human speech. This little cat was extra charming and too sweet to be a stray. As it seemed the cat welcomed the attention, she just started to scratch behind the ear when the cat took off. It was better then scratching her hand as some cats are want to do.
For a few moments she didn't know what to do. Follow the cat and risk scaring it into traffic? Then there was the matter of checking this tree for the gray troublemaker. Hardly dressed to climb, Ava gave a few lasting glances up the current tree before finally running after the other cat. At least one of them should get home safe tonight.
Oddly, it seemed like the cat was on a mission of her own. At the base of the new tree, Ava tilted her head slightly to the side and tried to peer up into the branches. Just what was the cat after?High up in the tree sat a very terrified house-cat. Sir Paddinton clung with all his might to a top branch and just shook. This was the first time in his life he had ever been in the 'wild'

There he was. Yumi's tail flicked from side to side in an irritated way before she crawled her way to Sir Paddington and let out a few noises she hoped was reassuring. Maybe if she got her cat she would be able to... Yes, she was definitely a senshi. Yumi knew this feeling. She had only awakened one other but it was the same feeling. Just not in a battle. "Come on Sir Paddington. Go on..." She moved over to push her side against his and attempted to nudge him toward the trunk of the tree, puffing a bit more. "Come on. Go on."

Originally, he was not planning on moving an inch. With another cat approaching he tired hissing to scare her off. Hardly convincing for a cat that was terrified himself. The combination of recently clipped nails and the other cat pushing against him limited the options. Even the attempt to get away from her lead him to lose his balance and fall right out of the tree. Eyes squinting to try and see where the cat was, Ava was not expecting what happened next. First there was a hiss that gave away an unhappy cat. Then a heavy fluffy gray cat came falling from the tree. Already on that side, she caught the cat almost by instinct rather then effort.
It was a moment of shared startled as she and Sir. Paddinton looked at one another. The cat almost recovered first attempting to bolt out her arms. However, he was a might too late as she grabbed him by the scruff to get a hold on him. His lower half was supported and the moment she could fish out the leash she let his scruff go and attacked the Italian leather leash on to the fancy collar. There were cloths in her closet that cost less then this cat's accessories.
Looking up the tree for the other cat she said aloud, "You are a miracle cat, smartest one ever." How on earth she knew which tree to go into was crazy. "Half cat, half bloodhound." If ever there was a cat to put a dog to shame, it was this one. She had to have an owner and a home, but it was still tempting to want to take the cat home and keep her.

Yumi rolled her eyes at the hissing and just gave the other feline a very, very flat look. Heavens above he was making a bunch of racket and all she was trying to do was help. And he started backing away and down he went. She winced and looked down, watching the other fur ball fall and then grinned when she caught the big thing. Well now, that worked out for the best, didn't it? Working her way back down the tree, she stopped in front of the girl again and just gave her a big grin. "Well, cats have this understanding of one another." She actually spoke because she was pretty dang sure this girl was a senshi. With her tail flicking to the side, Yumi settled on her haunches. "I'm Yumi, pleased to meet you and ...your cat." Hissing hairball.

There was no denying it, she dropped Sir. Paddinton. On the forth word the cat spoke, it sunk into her dumbfounded brain and her hold on the other cat failed. With wide eyes and excessive blinking, she honestly didn't completely register what was going on until the cat was falling. Once again she was able to catch him but it was hardly graceful or humane on the poor gray cat.
As there was a leash on the cat, she decided to leave him on the ground this time. The much abused cat didn't seem to mind. He did mind that when he tried to run off again, he was unable to do so due to the leash. This did not please the Sir Paddinton.
"Yu-Yumi?" Stuttering over a name was embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as the idea that she was talking to a cat. Looking around her she was trying to find the camera. This wasn't possible, had to be a prank. Only, there didn't appear to be anyone even close to them. Hesitantly she added, "He isn't my cat, belongs to a judge just taking his picture."
And now she was explaining her self to a cat. "Names..names Ava." And now she was introducing herself to a cat. Dropping her head a few moments, she brought her free hand to her head and rubbed her forehead dragging her hand over her closed eyes. How was this happening? Taking a deep breath she looked up fully expecting to see some prankster next to Yumi laughing at her.

Did humans often give cats to photographers to photo? Well, she supposed their photos had to appear on the internet somehow didn't they? Yumi hummed to herself as she watched the cat basically choke itself trying to dart off. This Earth cat was not the smartest, was it? She giggled and then looked back to Ava before nodding. "Ava... I see.." She took a few steps back and looked around once more before jumping, doing a flip. A henshin pen appeared from pocket space and landed in the grass with a soft plop. Yumi then nudged it toward her with a wide grin on her face. "Yes! I am no doubtibly right about this. You, Miss Ava, are a Senshi. A Sailor Scout! This pen belongs to you." She nudged it closer to the woman and looked so pleased with herself. So pleased, in fact, that she started padding in a circle around the girl. "You, miss, are Sailor Phoenix. Take the pen and go "Phoenix Power Make-Up!". We're alone now so it should be okay to do. Just be mindful of the cat..." She looked back to Sir Paddington and gave him a hopeless look. Poor cat.

At this given moment, Ava wished so hard that she had a recorder. Sure she could have pulled out her cell phone and recorded this all, but that would take remembering she had one. By the time the cat managed to pull something out of no where, she couldn't have remembered she had a car.
Locking eyes on the pen, she didn't even notice she was now being circled. Even the tugging on her arm from the unhappy Mr. Paddinton went unnoticed. That pen hadn't been there before. Looking to the cat then back again to the pen all she could do was blink.
This was an odd sense of everything made no sense at all and that feeling like it did. "A Senshi?" What on earth was Yumi talking about? Kneeling, she picked up the pen and looked at it. With no shortage of wonder she flipped it in her hand looking at both sides like that would tell her what the cat was talking about.
It didn't.
Instead, as this was no less strange than a talking cat, she raised the pen up and said pretty low, "Phoenix Power Make-up" In that moment the world seemed to flash. Even with her eyes closed she could almost feel flames covered her then vanished.
It had to only been a moment, Sir. Paddinton hadn't even finished yowling when everything came into focus. Her clothing she was wearing was gone and suddenly she was in orange and white with heels she wouldn't normally wear.
Had this been an outfit she saw at the store she wouldn't have even considered it. With it on, it all of the sudden the most natural thing she'd ever worn.
Turning her head to see the feather like bow on the back to raising her hand and touching the necklace, Phoenix too the time to get a little familiar with what she was wearing. Looking to Yumi she had no words for a while. Finally she said probably the most logical thing she had ever said, "I don't understand." There were probably a million questions going through her head and not even the words to give life to even half of them.

When Phoenix stood before her, Yumi felt her chest fill with pride. She giggled and pranced around, thankful that no one was around to watch the transformation. She just rubbed herself against the other's legs and purred loudly for her. "You're a senshi! A soldier in this war against the Negaverse. It's not an easy thing, but I think you'll do so swimmingly!" She giggled more and then flipped herself over on her back in front of the new senshi, tail flicking playfully, pawing at the air. "You're Sailor Phoenix! That's your name. You can't give that to any of your civilian friends. Only trust senshi in white and anyone who says they're a page or a knight." Like she was really going to tell Phoenix to trust DMC. They weren't... Well, she still didn't know if they were good or bad, and in all honesty, she thought of them as bad until proven otherwise. "Anymore questions?" Her blue eyes flicked to Sir Paddington and she rolled her eyes. Earth cats were so strange. She flipped over to her stomach now and just moved closer to the other cat, making little noises. "Hey, hey! Stop struggling, you're going to hurt yourself."

Looking down at her hands she flexed them both still marveling at every change she noticed. There was no lying to herself, she'd have to find a mirror eventually. Not one for vanity, Pheonix doubted anyone would blame her for being curious about this new change.
Kneeling down, she awkwardly tried to reach out and pet Yumi while protecting what modesty she could. Never would Ava have been seen out in a skirt this short. Even attempting to kneel felt like she was flashing the world! There was no way she could sort out in her mind what was stronger, the sense of embarrassment at the shortness of her outfit or the sense of wonder that it existed.
"I may have taken a little martial arts when I was little, but I don't know how to fight. What is the negaverse and how would I know them?" It felt like her senses reached farther like there were signals she could almost reach out to but there was no decoding them at the current time.
Noting Sir Paddington now, Phoenix tried to reach out to the poor cat but that didn't exactly go over well.Sir Paddington continued to pull as hard as he could, hissing furiously when Phonenix reached for him. Only when the human backed off did he just flop down. Confused and frightened, the older gray cat just gave up. Looking at the other cat, he gave out a long meow and appeared to refuse to move further. Phoenix wasn't going to push the cat any further. Poor cat already appeared to be stressed out enough as it was. With two more questions coming to mind she asked, "How do I change back?" There was no way she'd be able to walk into her house like this. If her mother caught her there would be no hearing the end of it. Then she added, "Do you need a place to stay Yumi?" At the vary least, that she might be able to get away with. As far as she knew Yumi was the only one who knew about all this, the idea of not having her there when anything happened was just a little frightening on is own.

When Yumi was pet she purred loudly and butted her head against that hand and those fingers. She looked at Paddington and just sighed. Disgrace to cat race. He was so unopen to change. "The Negaverse is a force of people trying to do a lot of bad! You'll know them by feel and the fact that most of them tend to look like they're in some sort of military uniform. They drain people's energy and rip out starseeds of senshi to corrupt. They're not a good lot. As for fighting..." Yumi straightened herself up and thought a bit. "There are older senshi you can find! They're not hard to find. They give out powerful energy signatures. In time you can tell who's what." She grinned up at the senshi and rubbed herself against that hand again. "Oh, no. I have a place to stay, but it was nice of you to offer! To change back just relax and you should power down easily. It's like a second nature, so I'v been told."

Know them when you feel them, it was all she could do not to sigh at that one. Perhaps this was something a senshi figured out for herself? Not everything can be taught or explained after all. With that she accepted Yumi's answer.
Closing her eyes she tried to follow the instructions. The feel of the power changed and what seemed to be all at once, she was back in her normal attire. Turning once, she had to just check and make sure everything was back to normal.
She could have written this off as a moment of insanity if it weren't for the pen in her hand. How one thing so small could alter so much was fitting. One picture could change a view point.
Hardly anything else to say, "Thank you, Yumi." If this was a good or bad thing was yet to be seen. So much went on in the city, the random destruction and odd events. Before it was like she saw but never noticed. All at once things that were overlooked were starting to come back with a different filter. Maybe, just maybe, she could do some good in this world.
Scratching Yumi under the chin and behind the ears, it was a fun picture between the cats. Sir Paddington seemed so freaked out, yet this Yumi was friendly and affectionate. If more cats were like her, besides handing out the pens, she'd have been a cat person. There was no telling what she'd end up saying to the judge when she brought Sir Paddinton home. He hadn't said a word unlike Yumi, if he couldn't talk then at least he couldn't tell the day he had.
