Broken, defeated and rejected.
The older mare always felt like she was never good enough. She wasn't good enough for anyone or anything. Her brother made sure of that and beat it into her head that she was nothing more then a weak pathetic mare. Her self-esteem was non-existent even when her parents were alive, she was never treated fairly. Her father favored her brother and her mother was always off doing her own thing. She didn't get the attention she deserved, but when they died, she only had her brother to keep her company.
But now she was alone.
After being tossed away like garbage the mare didn't know what to do with herself. She had been used her entire life even when she was a foal, her brother would push her around. As a result, her outlook on the world wasn't a good one. She was bitter towards everyone because she felt they would only end up using her again. She couldn't take that anymore. She didn't even know if she would be able to survive something like that again. So she pushed herself away from everyone. She didn't want to be a bother to anyone or always live in fear. She just wanted to find her peace.
A calming place.
As she looked around, she could see the moonlight through the tops of the trees and knew she should get up. She had been lying on the ground for far too long, but she didn't even know where to go. Thoughts crept into her mind, but it would just be an endless day of travel.
She dug her hoof into the ground as she tried to get up before falling right back down feeling too weak and tired to move. She would travel until her legs would give out as a means of getting as far away from her brother as she could.
She heard something move and turned her head wondering what or who was out there.
She only hoped it wasn't her brother.
