Why did she come to this place? Nothing but terrible memories bombarded her at the sight of the looming volcano. It was death. It was destruction. It was her very soul. She knew what she was and why she had to survive the terrible fate that befell Annu, but she did not realize how much it would cost her. So many people died so that she and Cassia could live, but even now Thera did not know if her love truly lived or if she had perished along with the others. It was terrible knowledge, and all she could do was keep pressing on until she received word of Cassia. She had thought she had conquered her fears of Volcanoes when she had met The Dragon without a Flame, but it seems that with time the fear returned.

The volcano looming before her was not as imposing or as awe inspiring as the one that shadowed Annu, but it was still large enough to do some damage should it erupt. Her flaming mane danced in the wind as she walked up a rocky path. Did someone call this place home? If so, they would most likely not take it too kindly if she trespassed. But still she went on, she needed to see the volcano and conquer her fears. She was part lava, or at least that is what her scales reminded her of. Slow moving lava. Her hair was not hair at all, but fire that would burn any who dared get too close. She was fire and destruction. Or so the prophecy stated.

Was it even true? Could she be the embodiment of destruction life while Cassia be the rebirth of it? The teachings of the Great Phoenix Mother are as such and Thera believes them with all her heart, but could not others be what the prophecy predicted. Everyone has the capability of destruction and rebirth. So why her and Cassia? Perhaps she will never know why, for all who know the reasons had perished during the aftermath of the volcano eruption.

Thera made it to a spot that seemed to be a cave opening. Curious she cast her gaze inside. "Hello? Is anybody in there?" Her voice echoed against the rock, but it did not go very far. It was not a cave opening after all, just a fissure in the rocks. With a sigh, perhaps of relief that she did not have to encounter someone or go into a dark cave, Thera continued up the side of the mountain. Her thoughts upon the past and the last time she had visited a volcano. Hopefully this day would not be as life changing as the last two volcano encounters.

The feathered beast lay asleep for now in the warmth of her flaming home. Still, nothing happened around here without her finally catching wind of it. She could indeed hear the echo of a voice ring though the wall that lay between her and the outside world. The creature of flame who twitched in her nightmares of her past, of the humans chasing her from her home, of their words of her monstrosity. that voice made the small creature spring onto her feet, feathers flared as she looked around at the red hue of her dismal home.

Had she indeed heard a voice, or was that an echo of her nightmare? Either way, neither were really ever welcome with her. others bored her, and with her children gone, the beast of flame and rebirth had indeed came to sleep and hide for ages in the depths of her tomb. The feathers smoothed as she shook the nightmare from her very being and finally the beast of fire took to the sky. In a bust of smoke she burst from the hole that was the mouth of the volcano. Spinning into the air her wings beat with tender grace until her eyes had finally adjusted to the brightness around her.

It did not take long for her to notice the fire on the path. "Flames, this far from the volcano?" She asked herself before the small creature came in for a closer look, had the volcano released and she not hears it? No, she would of been caped in its lava, there was no way. She finally lowered into range to notice that the flame was moving, and, it was alive. It was not fire and lava, but another creature that walked the earth. Stupid earth bound, they do not know what they miss.

Finally the Phoenix came into range of this creature, fluttering her wings to make the dust of the barren path fling and dance upon the air. "Who passes into my home of flame and death?" She asked. She was small, smaller then most creatures, about half the size of a normal mare, but her feathers added for her size when flung out in a threatening display. Ash fell from her clawed legs as wisps of flame pushed past, like a never ending forest ablaze in a never ending flame.

It was the Great Phoenix Goddess. Thera stared up at the flying figure, her brain not comprehending the sight. Quickly she bowed her head, “I am sorry Great Goddess for trespassing upon your domain. It is I, Thera of Annu, your humble Priestess.” She continued to bow her head, the mare could not believe that the Goddess was here. She was as spectacular as Thera had imagined, although a bit smaller than she believed a Goddess should be. After some time looking at the dirt beneath her hooves, the mare came to the realization that this situation did not make sense; the Goddess should know all her children, especially her favored ones of Annu. Thera looked at the small flying figure again, “You are not the Great Phoenix Goddess.” There was a hint of sadness in Thera’s voice; she had hoped it was the Goddess so she could finally get answers. She wanted to know where Cassia was and what the point of all this was. She wished to know why she was to be destruction. Since she was trespassing, Thera supposed she owed the flying mare an answer, she gave her name again, “I am Thera of Annu, and I am here at your home of Flame and Death to conquer my fear of volcanoes and the destruction that they cause. To come to terms with the energy of the volcano, will lead to me understand myself and my own destructive embodiment.”

The creature of earth and flame only watched the larger mare with her reaction. She could not help but smirk, if only she could get such devotion from all, maybe her life would not of fallen apart so easily. She was a destruction force that now more then ever was leading down a path of death. Though by time she had ran so much over her mind the larger mare had regained herself and realized, though Vesta was named from a goddess in history, she was indeed only a child of the flame.

"Well Thera of Annu, I am Vesta, Child of the phoenix, and bringer of the great fire." She said in high regard. "If you truly have come to face the death that you hold inside then come, walk into the arms of the flame, and embrace what you are, a creature of destruction." Vesta had not rightly been herself since her baskets were taken and she was left alone in the volcano once more. She was cast from the eyes of one she came to follow and now was indeed truly alone, and so, in her eyes all that was left in the world was indeed death.

Vesta kept to herself that back in her home land her mother and father were both seen as gods, one of flame, a Phoenix that destroyed almost all of a civilization. It was a story she hardly spoke of, to many as was often saw her as a monster. Those that walk the earth would never understand. "My door will be open to you if you chose to enter this journey. Even I in all my age have yet to understand why I am the force that I am, but then, maybe we are meant to force others to understand hmm?"

It was strange how much the stranger resembled the Goddess and also reminded Thera of Cassia. Both were representations of the Phoenix, but yet this mare seemed to hold the destructive power as well as the rebirth. Thera was far from the land she called home and yet in that instant as she stood next to the smaller mare, something seemed to make sense and some of her fear of volcanos melted away. Perhaps it was because the mare reminded her of Cassia and the Goddess or perhaps there was another reason entirely and Thera had not yet come to the answer. The lava mare bowed her head to the Phoenix, “It is a pleasure to meet you Vesta, Child of the Phoenix.” Thera had witnessed the great fire that had spread across the land soon after her arrival; she had blamed her destructive nature as the cause for all the problems she faced since she had arrived in Kawanii. “I would be honored to step across your threshold and together we can learn about the destructive natures that are our very bodies and life.”

She was lead here for a reason, the volcano had beckoned her, she could feel its call deep within her soul. Even though she was half of water and half of fire, fire is what called to her heart. The heat and the flickering flames always captured her attention. It was a destructive force, but yet necessary for new growth. When small it gave heat to those who grew chilled, it was essential to the life of those on earth. Water was the same, and on certain days Thera was captured by the swirling force that also had the capacity to destroy or aid.

The small creature moved from the way and came to curl once more by the warmth of the fires of the volcano that warmed, and basked the cavern in the golden light. "Make yourself at home, as long as the flame beckons you. There is plenty of place to est in the heat, and even more place to bathe in the lava to refresh the body with the warmth and wonder that is out very destruction." She yawned half heatedly before glancing at the pool of lava in the distance. Part of being a phoenix meant that the extreme heat that most run from was only like a warm blanket to her. All the earth along her body would flake away, but in a few minutes of cooling from the lava, and like it always has, it would spring back, refreshed and renewed.

"Tell me, how far have you come to this land?" Vesta herself traveled far to get here, from a land of heat and dry air, where almost nothing lives now after the volcano claimed most of it in its destructive nature. In Vesta's eyes one could see her longing for home, along with the hate of the landers for forcing her to leave the place which she was born.
