"Oh, dear."

She was lost. Lost, lost, lost. She was so lost!

One moment she was walking among the flowers in her garden at her shrine, and the next she was swept off to some random glade. (It was a rather pretty glade, in all fairness, with a small waterfall running into a clear spring) Honestly, the random ripples in the fabric of space-time were getting out of hand! She'd need to fix that once she got back.

Correction: Once she figured out where she was.

Rossa had an inkling of where she was, but it was hard to be sure. She'd need to find someone and ask them just to play it safe. If her calculations were off by even a little bit, it could end quite badly. Not to mention, it was safer to try and return to her shrine if she started the spell in a place of great natural energy. And this glade, while lovely and pure, seemed to be lacking the rise and fall of the forest's heartbeat she would need.

What. Was. This. Scent.

Grayce had been hunting along the tree line (rather uneventfully) when out of nowhere a scent that he hadn't smelled two minutes before appeared in the air like the first startling trill of a clear bell. The scent made his mouth water - so much so that it made him forget to move toward the scent. It smelled like...fresh falling petals - made of dew, or something eternal - something...unknown. It smelled like falling, just falling, like falling and forgetting to breathe. Almost like somewhere else.

The smell made him so hungry, but at the same time the scent let him know that this wasn't a meal that we supposed to be eaten. It told him to follow his nose, and so he went - onward, forward to the place where the scent grew stronger. It felt warm, but crisp, oddly like fresh frost on the first eve of winter - but a frost that warmed instead of chilling.

Finally he found himself in a place that he knew well. Of course he knew the place well, it was a glade that he often hunted in. He hunted here because it was far away from the normal creatures whom he knew that usually tended to associate him with his deer side. Which, most times he was fine with, but he tended to like connecting with his predator side more often than not. Still, Grayce hung in the shadows of the glade (behind some foliage), perched with his shoulders hunched and body long to the ground, in case of a need to lunge.

"How does a doe like yourself end up alone?" Grayce said, placing a sly growl in the tone of the question - drawing some of the words with a deep purr, which enhances his dangerous allure yet making sure not to give his position away.

Lost in thought, she didn't even notice that she was being - for lack of a better word - sized up until the other being spoke. With a small squeak, Rossa jumped slightly and spun around, ears pricked and eyes wide. Her jewelry jangled at the sudden movement, pearlescent beads glittering in the light. Heartbeat quickening the longer she couldn't spot the location of the strange voice, she struggled against her fight-or-flight response.

"S-Show yourself."

It came out dry, scared. Fragile as a butterfly's wing. Try again.

"Show yourself!"

Much better. She'd used a bit of magic, steadying her nerves and making her voice project. As it was, using the magic heightened her senses and she could almost feel eyes watching her. The air was crisper, and she knew that her magic would cause a slight shift in her scent. Prey? Perhaps no longer. She turned slightly, peering at the brush and foliage along one side of the glade.

He could see her more clearly now as she shifted in the dappled streams of light. The female was...a doe - but unlike any he had seen. How strange it was that she had antlers, though she was admittedly cute. More so, as she quivered just the slightest at his inquiry.

"Deary, do not act so harshly, I was just figuring you out first." Grayce grinned snidely as he slithered from the shadows, "It is quite disorienting to have a stranger encroach on my territory, after all." The words were drawn carefully from his jaws, putting emphasis on the message that she was trespassing, "Therefore, you are the one who should be showing yourself."

Slowly, Grayce circled her with a low snarl in his throat. It was non-threatening, more of a tactic to make her nervous, rather than scared. With a cautious approach, he sidled into her space - drawing in a whiff of her scent. "You smell of..." Grayce paused while he breathed in, but on the exhale he purred low in his throat, "...light. Like if I were to walk from the dark of night into the morning breeze. Like a sweet afternoon." He drew himself back into a normal position, "Oddly, it makes me want to sneeze." He had been joking, but the comment held truth to it. It reminded him of when he'd step out into the light for the first time after sleeping, and be overcome by the desire to sneeze.

Grayce grinned at her, "Your scent is a new scent. Not from here....it's like the scent that makes up all nature." The male took a moment to think, looking her up and down - giving his tail a flick in the mean while. "....Which would mean you are not from around here." He concluded.

Rossa's spine went straight stiff when the voice continued to tease her as its owner slunk around in the shadows at the edges of the glade. She frowned at his words, feeling slightly irritated at what the voice was playing at. "My apologizes for standing in a glade without prior invitation." she said primly, ears still pricked to the slight sounds of steps, listening intently for the sound of a soft breath or a staccato heartbeat. Anything to give her a warning of where the voice's owner had slunk to next.

The growl spooked her. She jumped slightly, unable to completely muffle a little squeak of surprised fear. And then the voice's owner was invading her space, sniffing her cautiously and remarking on her peculiar scent. But Rossa was too busy trying not to sprint off in any direction that her new glade-mate was not.

Horn, ears, and tail of a deer. Those characteristics should've put her heart at ease. But there was something in his presence, the slightly off-kilter feeling she had about him, that led her to believe that was not his only heritage. To be fair, the fact that he had growled at her and continued to exude an aura of hunting malice that made one of her hooves fidget and paw at the ground was probably to blame. His smile was easy, fangs overlooked. His icy blue eyes, however, were reason to be on guard.

Still, though, Rossa couldn't help the small huff of amusement at his diagnosis of her 'not being from around here'. "Quite right. I am not from this forest - nor, should I think, I am meant to be." she said, inclining her head. If he wanted to play word games and be vague, then she would play. She had centuries of experience, afterall. Besides, continued mistrust non withstanding, it seemed like a conversation with this deer-other hybrid would prove amusing - so long as she could keep her guard up. "I would ask for your name, though something tells me that I will not win it from you easily."

Grayce threw his head back and let out a hearty chuckle - something that did not happen all that often, "No, you will not learn my name so simply - perhaps, if you had been a less intriguing individual I would have supplied it, but you are not simply and you do intrigue - therefore, I am guessing you have the wits to uncover it." His eyes, again, caught her in a freezing glance - he'd always had a way with the gaze. A gaze of control, of power, that could manipulate a victim into a confused state of paralysis. Like Medusa. Like a deer in the headlights. However, the only problem with a gaze is that the watcher never gets to touch - only look.

Grayce let his claws knead the ground into a fresh uproar of dirt, "First, I will tell you something about myself. Then you will tell me about you. And so on. When you're ready, you can guess my name. You only get two tries though..." He smiled at this, "So be careful. I haven't decided what happens if you lose." A low purr escaped his muzzle as he licked his lips, eye lowered. "First thing, My fathers were a lion and a stag. I am the hunter, and the hunted. You, my dear, are just the hunted."

He drew back from his space, circling a patch of ground swiftly before settling into the forest floor - staring at her. Grayce's plan for the evening was one of education about this female - she would fill the silence of his otherwise lonely den. If this was to happen naturally, he would have to back off and mellow his dominating attitude - at least for now, and so he settled in for a pleasant conversation. A battle of wits, if the previous exchange was any indication. "Your turn"

Rossa jumped slightly at the loud, hearty laugh, sniffing primly at the predator's thinly-veiled threats that followed. His gaze made her heart clench in her chest, bile rising to her throat - 'RUN' - but she forced herself to remain calm. While the faerie knew she could likely take him on outright - oh, yes, most assuredly though the forest was his domain she was in her element and was not one to be underestimated - she was not one for violence as a general rule. And, even better still, he had offered her a game.

She listened carefully, a stray breeze causing her hair adornments to twinkle and chime pleasantly. 'A stag... and a lion? Truly, he is a strange creature.' Rossa thought, watching as the male backed off and made himself comfortable. A thought occurred and caused a flicker of empathetic pain in her heart. 'Yes, he is strange. Strange and alone.'

The faerie stiffened when he addressed her again, lips forming a pout as she thought on a reply. He had not been vague, and yet had revealed nothing... Well, this was a battle of wits and wills, after all. "I have no doubt you can guess at my nature rather easily. So, instead, I offer you this: I, like you, also have territory that bears my name. Unlike you, however, I have no need to worry of attack or seizure." she said, steeling her voice and eyes, "Only a fool would dare attack one whose borders are borderless."

Then, she too sat down daintily, her gaze expectant. "It is your turn, now, I believe."

Grayce peered at the doe curiously, edging towards frustration at trying to unriddle her words. How could any territory be without fear of siege? Perhaps her territory was hers because she was the sole resident, otherwise any sort of unrest in a land's citizens may lead to the danger of attack. However, she had said that her territory wad boundless, which may mean that Grayce was in the presence of someone who was far more powerful that she had first seemed.

"Borderless, you say? You speak highly of yourself. What am I to know of your territory? How do I know that your aren't simply talking yourself up?" He narrowed his eyes at her, taking in her persona. She didn't seem to be the type to lie, but he had only just met her, after all. "Perhaps I am a fool", he added, ominously.

With a long, deep breath he decided he would retain her information for later. Perhaps her could entice her to come back, if he didn't scare her off first. "Well, I suppose its my turn again. Hmmm...well, if I seem carnivorous, it is mostly a front. While I can eat meat, it generally doesn't sit well with me, and so I instead prefer foliage for food." Grayce looked off to the side, frowning. He normally didn't like to share that fact with anyone, as he didn't like to appear weak to others, but he thought he might as well alleviate some of the doe's fears.

Rossa sat straighter as the male obviously pondered over the information she'd provided him. She jutted up her chin at his words with a small frown, mildly insulted by his insinuation that she would tell him a falsehood. (Not that she could - none of her kind were able to. Though, with centuries of practice, she and others had found ways to get around it via half-truths or cryptic generalizations. One of her favorites was describing the sky - 'It is purple and blue and gold - water on fire or rockless grey castles - yet has no color.')

The faerie tilted her head when the strange male spoke again, unable to hide a small sigh of relief. 'That said - though he doesn't eat meat doesn't mean those claws or fangs are any less proficient at their intended tasks.' Rossa thought, nodding a little at her decision to keep herself on guard. He continued to offer her nothing of use in guessing her name - by design? Yet her heart went out him, vaguely, at his evident shame in admitting what he obviously viewed as a weakness.

"I cannot say this news doesn't please me." she said, shrugging, "Regardless, I offer you this: The shape you see now is not my true form. Yet it is one with which I am familiar with as every form I take is my own. Some have fingers, others claws, and some have none at all."

She paused, blinking at him. "That is all I shall say. I believe it is your turn."

(I just realized we never discussed what form they're in so I'm assuming feral - Rossa would be a silver-blue doe with silver ornaments and her earrings?)
