It was a beautiful night. A pity Eshkohl was a bit too upset to see it. Against her mate's wishes and good judgement, that monster had been made a Patrol Leader. The green lioness couldn't decide if it was a good or bad thing that said patrol consisted entirely of lions who happened to agree with her views. Outside the pride, she'd seen so many people like Tyfu, who seemed to only be happy at the expense of others. To be completely fair, she could have become someone like that. Except...she wouldn't have. Because she was a fundamentally different person. Tyfu was evil, through and through. And the King did nothing to stop her. Hell, he'd put her in a position to do even more damage! "Gods-be-damned lioness," Eshkohl growled aloud. Then she glanced around quickly to see if anyone had noticed her faux pas. Not only for cursing aloud, but for calling on the gods, instead of the single Great Lion the Mwezi'Johari worshipped.

Mach was out tonight and she wasn't sure what to think about the recent goings on with Tyfu. She wanted to like her, but honestly? Something sat completely wrong with Machholz. She clicked her tongue as she made her way to her post, only to hear a growling lioness cursing someone. Admittedly the purple lionesses interest was piqued and she just tilted her head. Oh, this was Nyota's mate, wasn't she? Something like that... Mach had never officially been introduced, so this was a bit awkward for her. Should she approach her first? Let he obviously annoyed lioness. So far this first impression of the lioness wasn't a very good one, but ...Mach didn't want to judge because technically they hadn't met. "Evening," she whispered when Eshkohl glanced her way, wandering closer towards her. "Rough night?"

Eshkohl blinked in surprise as the other lioness almost magically appeared next to her. The purple, starry pelt was familiar, very much like her mate's...
...had he mentioned relatives? She thought he had. But how embarrassing was it that she had no idea who this lioness was? Firmly, the green lioness told her racing heart to stop pounding so loud so that she could hear herself think and talk to the other female.
"Normal enough," she answered on the exhale of a sigh. "I don't think we've met?" the lioenss continued, whispering to match the other.

Eh? She seemed really surprised to see her. Machholz supposed she did sort of sneak up on the other lioness, so she could chalk her surprised reaction to that. "Maccholz," she replied, speaking at a normal volume now. It was silly to whisper. Why did she do that? Her ears flattened a little as she looked her over. "I've seen you with my brother, Nyota. Ah.. You're his mate?" Why beat around the bush when asking directly got her the information a lot quicker.

Oh gods. Nyota's sister. Maccholz. Suddenly she knew exactly who the lioness was. The name and relationship and appearance all put together suddenly created a cohesive whole in Eshkohl's mind. If a blush could have been seen through her fur in the dark, one was certainly rising in her cheeks now.
"Oh I am so sorry! Yes, we're mates. I still can't believe he didn't take the time to introduce us!" the green lioness exclaimed at a slightly louder than normal volume and higher pitch.
She paused for a moment. "Why were we whispering?"

"Nyoto's forgetful with us a lot of the times." Mach just shrugged a little and let a grin flash on her face. Well, at least they got to meet without him trying to play referee if there was some kind of catty argument. Hopefully there wouldn't be. Her tail flicked from side to side before she settled back on her haunches and just winced at the loud volume.
"Ah, in case cubs are sleeping. Sometimes the voices carry a great distance and I don't want to wake them up." She'd done that once. Not fun.

Eshkohl let loose a bark of laughter at that. Cubs could sleep any time, any place. She'd seen it herself. Hell, she'd done it herself. She might not have any of her own - yet - but it was clear that Maccholz had even less experience with small children.
"Of course some cubs are sleeping. But to be fair, they should be awake as much of the night as they can be. After all, only a small portion of the pride is awake under the sun nowadays, and only to defend our lands," she pointed out. It had been one of Shangyue's earliest proclamations, after he'd seized the throne, that the pride should only be awake at night.

Children made Machholz twitchy. She didn't like them. They were underfoot and loud and never listened and honestly, she just wanted all children to grow up as soon as they were born. But, she would never have her way. If she did, she would never have cubs. They would distract her and now wasn't the time for cubs in the pride. That was what she honestly thought. There was too much unease still.
"Tell that to the sleepy cubs and you deal with the whining," Mach said with a little laugh, rolling her shoulders. "Honestly it's... Mn. Cubs." She just wrinkled her nose. "I can't be around them for more than a couple of hours."

The green lioness rolled her shoulders in a wordless shrug. Some people didn't care to have children or be around them. That was their choice. Some people simply needed the opportunity to see that it wasn't all bad. Well, that would be provided for Machholz, when she had nieces and nephews to meet.
But it wasn't worth pressing the issue. It could very well be that even after Eshkohl and Nyota had cubs Machholz would still prefer to avoid children. And that was her right. The green female had no interest in dictating terms.
"Whatever works for you," was what she replied at last. "But enough about cubs, what about you? Here I've been for so many moons, and never really met you and certainly never talked. So, what say we find a place to sit and get to know each other?" Eshkohl offered.

Machholz would meet her nieces and nephews. Gods knew she'd even watch them for a bit if the parents needed a break. But she couldn't spend a whole day with them. That was just too much for her system to handle.
"...Ah, me? I've.. been here for a long time." She murmured, nodding. Mach got back to her paws and started walking with the green female. "Nyota's obviously the oldest.. We've got three other females in the family, my sisters. Poor Nyota's outnumbered." She seemed proud of that fact. Machholz would always like girls outnumbering boys. It was just one of life's simple pleasures that warmed her up. "...A lot has happened and changed."
The purple lioness would talk to her in-law about all sorts of things, hobbies she liked; watching the hunting parties, going climbing, surprising her brother with little pranks. Things like that. Hopefully her and her in-law would get along.

"He doesn't really talk about his family to me," Eshkohl explained some of her curiosity as they walked. The rest, well, she felt it was only right to form a relationship with her sister-in-law. She certainly didn't want to alienate the other lioness, and wanted Machholz to feel welcome in their den and their lives.
"But I believe a lot has changed - so much has changed just since I joined the pride. I'd love to hear all about it," she told the other female firmly as they headed off.
Who needed to worry about Tyfu when she could spend a pleasant evening building a new relationship?
