Ribcage

Personality:

Despite his rather obvious (and morbid) obsession with skeletons, Skeltr is surprisingly outgoing and laid-back, if not a bit offbeat at the same time. Highly sheltered by his lusus, his mode of operation amongst other trolls is often tailored by her wishes; he is fairly polite, but his sass and good humor almost always manage to shine through anyway. His love of all things bone related was born during his trials in the brooding caverns, when a very young and alone Skeltr happened upon a dusty old skull, covered in cobwebs and tossed into a corner. Amazed and endeared by this unusual object, he took it with him, using it as an imaginary friend of sorts. He would later learn from his lusus exactly what the skull was, and so his study and fondness of skeletons began.

His obsession touches many aspects of his personality, from his clothing to his speech to the games he likes to play. He is apt to toss around skeleton puns, often for his own personal amusement, as they are usually too horrible for anyone else to appreciate. Skeltr seems to disregard the gloomier aspects to which his obsession is connected; skeletons are a point of comedy, rather than something to be frightened of, or to use to scare others. This doesn't mean that there isn't a grosser side to the story, of course. His lusus goes out to hunt regularly, and often brings back dead creatures. When she is finished feeding on them, Skeltr harvests larger bones and skulls, cleaning them before adding them to his collection.

It may come as a point of surprise, then, that Skeltr has a very intense fear of death, also partially put in place by his lusus, who often scares him unintentionally by telling him what will happen if he angers the castes above him. Simply put, he is quite the coward, and wouldn't hesitate to flee from a confrontation if it became dangerous (unless Mim took the initiative and carried him off first). While he wants badly to make friends, he has little to no experience in , ingrained with the sense that the society he's living in is more of an every-man-for-himself type of situation. He has yet to turn his back on anyone, and the thought makes him oddly guilty for reasons he doesn't yet understand. This also creates a dilemma concerning his lusus, as he often wants to distance himself from her at times, but then falls right back into the trap of fearing for his life, if anything happens to go awry.

Needless to say, Skeltr follows the hemospectrum as best he can, as per his lusus' instruction. A bit too young to consider forming any radical new opinions, he trusts Mim, and fears and respects those in the high castes, easily manipulated and willing to be obedient. He trusts his lusus, and in the notion that if he does as he's told, it will keep him safe. He can usually muster up a bit of charisma in order to communicate with highbloods (he does best if they're closer to his age), but he mostly prefers to mingle casually with other lowbloods, feeling safer and less like he has to impress or be formal. Skeltr tries to be polite and chipper when he socializes, but if he is provoked in any way, it's worth noting that he has a very weak temper, and is quicker to become frightful and apologetic, rather than angry or snappish, regardless of blood color. He also has the rather bad habit of lying about his feelings or opinions on various things. Being the kind of guy who likes to please others, he will lie, almost on impulse, if he wants to get something over with, or give other trolls the answer they want to hear. Of course, this has the huge potential of coming back later to bite him on the a**.

In his spare time, if he is not cleaning parts of his lusus' most recent kill, Skeltr enjoys a small variety of other lesser hobbies. He is an avid lover of cartoons, and he loves board games, but most of all, he dreams of someday joining a flarp team, and jots down these plans in his old husktop. With an active imagination and a great enthusiasm for comedic shenanigans and good stories, he feels it is a worthwhile pursuit, but his lusus insists that he is still too young. Though he is obedient for now, enough sweeps have past that Skeltr has begun to tire of her restrictiveness, and longs for the time when he can experience just a bit more freedom.

Strengths:

[+] Humerus Humorous
Despite all the skeleton garbage, Skeltr is generally a light-hearted troll with a pun or joke at the ready whenever the opportunity for one presents itself, and these are usually delivered in a droll or deadpan kind of way. This trait is mainly put towards amusing others as well as coping with difficult situations, as he would rather attempt to lighten a doom and gloom mood than enhance it. Most of his jokes are situational, and he would never think of poking fun at someone at their expense, mainly to avoid conflict, and partly because he isn't the type to be cruel on purpose.

[+] Enthusiastic
Skeltr handles many of his activities and socializing with a cheery, eager air. He's usually really happy just to be out and about, and can get even more excitable if he can find someone to play with or talk to for longer than ten minutes. Skeltr's enthusiasm usually carries into things he's never done before, as he is gung-ho about new experiences, as long as they aren't too hazardous to his health.

[+] Cooperative
Skeltr likes the idea of teamwork, and is a firm believer in 'the more the merrier'. Games are more fun with more trolls, and so is flarping, which he yearns to get into some day. He's happy to follow rules, and go along with the flow, and doesn't really see the point in being disruptive or unruly. Every troll has a job, and if everyone sticks to their job things go more smoothly (right?). He likes the idea of teamwork most of all because there is apparently safety in numbers, and even his lusus seems a little less overbearing in such situations.

[=] Morbid
There's no escaping this when you feel the need to harvest and clean the skulls and bones of your lusus' prey, when almost anyone else would discard the leftovers. It's a pretty gross process that Mim doesn't seem to mind for whatever reason, though his neighbors don't have very nice things to say about the smells. While Skeltr loves bones, and finds skeletons to be simply delightful, he does inwardly acknowledge what they are connected to, and what they represent. He doesn't let this get to him usually; he figures it'd be pretty funny to become a skeleton one day, but would rather it not happen for a very long time. He is afraid of his own death, but still has a fascination with anatomy and dead things that some may find unsettling, or a bit disgusting.

Flaws:

[-] Cowardly
Skeltr's cowardice comes into play mostly in social situations, and it's been caused over the sweeps by Mim's jumpiness and overprotective nature. Self-preservation is a high priority on his list, he's never suffered any notable injuries, but it's only because he's never been allowed to deal with any of his (very few, so far) problems on his own. His flight response is strong, and if he happens to be around anyone he cares about, he'll try to encourage them to get out of harm's way as well, as opposed to trying to stand up to the trouble. It's something he's not very proud of, but finds necessary for survival.

[-] Tractable
While Skeltr does like to go along with the flow of things, sometimes it goes a bit too far, especially when someone finds a way to make him feel afraid or threatened. Easily manipulated and bossed about, he can be rather pathetically compliant, and easy to take advantage of. Good for anyone who wants to do so, bad for Skeltr, who has been trained to follow authoritative voices. This trait goes most of all for his lusus and highbloods, both of which he believes have the right to give directions. There are certain times when his manipulable side truly irks him, and while he often has the urge to break away, he usually doesn't have the willpower to do so.

[-] Untruthful
While Skeltr doesn't usually tell lies with ill intent, it almost always has the likelihood of backfiring on him, sooner or later. Instead of lying for his own gain, Skeltr often lies on impulse, as a sort of defense mechanism gone bad. He'll do it not only to cover up misdeeds, but also to avoid feeling embarrassment, or for convenience's sake, or simply to agree with those around him, even if it goes against his own feelings or opinion. He's willing to be a yes-man to more forceful personalities, and it often ties into his fearfulness, especially when highbloods come into play. Of course, once the truth manages to worm its way out, his impulsive deceitfulness can make him appear foolish at best and untrustworthy at worst, even if he is quick to apologize for it.

Weapon: (going to wait to make a solid decision, but probably a club of some sort, maybe a bone club for lolz)

Appearance:

Base: #1
Expression: sort of grinning-neutral, maybe a little happy-worried if that makes sense

see ref mostly, but:

- Ruffled, unstyled hair, sort of flippy/covering one eye
- Large, oversized dark grey zip-up hoodie, ribcage symbol in red and patches sewn in, possible skeleton on hood if possible (if not will be inferred)
- Black pants with leg bones sewed onto them
- ??? shoes just surprise me, maybe some busted up old sneakers
- crown horns. refs: x (thanks meaboo <3)

Home:

Skeltr and Mim live in a rather rundown hivestem near the edge of downtown NHC. It's small and covered on the inside with spiderweb, but they make it a cozy enough place to live. Chosen from the bottom of the barrel, it has no windows or view, but Skeltr has come to appreciate the gloomy atmosphere, and lights his home accordingly. It's almost dungeon-esque in appearance, and alongside Mim's webbing, he's added his own little decorations, like shitty little paper skeletons for the walls, and those cheap plastic spiders you buy for Terror Night. He's got some old furniture that's been scavenged from various places, and even managed to score an ancient husktop, on which he stores a few games and other things for rainy days.

His favorite things are his bone piles, but he has a lot of other weird (and sort of gross) odds and ends just about everywhere you look. Skulls, old magazines, clothes piles, a few broken toys, and the usual junk you'd expect to find in a kid's living space.

Lusus:

At a glance, Mimicmom (nicknamed Mim) looks like a compact, fuzzy moth, but a closer inspection will reveal something much more threatening; she is actually a very large jumping spider pulling off a rather convincing moth disguise. Standing at about five feet tall and about seven feet long, she is a sizable lusus, able to carry Skeltr around on her back or by other means, if necessary. She has eight eyes, four of which are located on the front of her head, two large, two small, all of which grant her exceptional vision. A large ruff of fluff wraps around the back of her cephalothorax, and her 'wings' are relatively short and only for show. Though she lacks the ability to fly, she can make great leaps, and is an excellent provider when it comes to finding food. Mostly white in color, she has a very vague skull marking on the top of her cephalothorax.

Mimicmom is an intelligent, inquisitive beast, and seems to become combative with only the greatest provocation. Despite being an arachnid, she is extremely doting toward Skeltr, to the point of being very overprotective. She knows the basic tenets of troll society, and as such, fears for her child's safety, rarely allowing him to wander far from her side, and always hanging close. While she does not weave stationary webs, she still possesses silk, which she uses to create strong strands to keep Skeltr tethered and close if they happen to wander into crowded or otherwise dense areas. This is often a point of contention for Skeltr, who wouldn't mind more of a chance to mix and mingle with other trolls without his lusus breathing down his neck, ready to flee at the first sign of trouble. Even though Skeltr does appreciate her, and understands that she's only looking out for his safety, he wouldn't mind the chance to deal with things on his own, sometimes.

Hey hey Kami! Skeltr is looking really great! There is only one thing that I noticed when reading through his application; everything else checks out just fine. You may wanna delete the little notes you took under his strengths/flaws at some point, but that's nitpicky!

Concerning Skeltr's morbid flaw, is there much of a chance that his morbidity will regularly come into play? I'd assume his constant barrage of bone puns is more comedic than morbid, but considering that harvesting and cleaning bones isn't something I can see him doing in public I fear that it may not come up often enough to warrant being considered a flaw. Particularly with Alternia's rather careless consideration of the dead being a bit more relaxed than Earth's pomp and circumstance. Considering he's less attached to scaring others or creeping people out using bones, what about his fixation causes others discomfort on a nightly basis?

Or perhaps you may want to frame his morbidity in a light that negatively affects him personally, such as losing himself in the thought of and fear of death.

(I suggest a femur for a weapon.)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I agree with you fully and have decided to turn the morbid trait into a neutral one, and add on another negative in to fill the space.

:9 A femur would be perfect, yes. I've made a few changes to his personality and added in the new trait as well.
