Poecai oiled down Goliath carefully. He was huge, and growing quickly, and was probably due to finish his growth as big as a Brown, or more. She was inclined, as she rubbed down his growing girth, to believe more. he peeped excitedly to her, lifting his foreleg to look happily at the brightening speckles on his sides, “That you are.” said Poecai. he offered, nuzzling her gently. He was feeling cuddly today. “Maybe.” she said, smiling. he commented, offhand, looking up thoughtfully. he asked suddenly, Poecai hesitated on her next stroke. She'd dropped by the creche to check on a friend one day, and had found that Goliath loved it there. He'd had fun, but... well... he was big. Goliath hung his head. He'd caught the thought, and its aftermath. he said abashedly, he looked at her pleadingly, “Mmm...” Poecai resumed her rubbing down, delaying her answer...

Poecai didn't seem to be the only one who had ideas of cleaning their dragon that morning. Qyprenna, too, had similar thoughts, as was evident by the bucket of tools that were necessary for proper dragon care that she held. Carefully, she carried it, making sure to have a good hold on her cane with her dominate hand. Just to be safe, Warden was draped around her shoulders, as was the case since she first got the green firelizard. She was providing the young weyrling with glimpses of where she was going this time, as opposed to her dragon, himself. As the images only came in brief flickers, it was clear they were still working things out.
'Just be careful, my dear one,' came Catoth's cautious, yet watchful tone. To reassure his rider, he sent the feeling of a hand squeezing another in comfort. She couldn't help but smile upon feeling such a sensation, and she walked with her head up, more assured than it had been a moment ago. 'Thanks, Catoth.'
When the trio came to their usual spot for Catoth to get his pampering, the brown let out a surprised, yet happy chirrup in greeting. Two others were already in the area: Poecai and her large, yet gentle blue, Goliath. He hadn't expected to see anyone there, least of all them, but it was a pleasant surprise, none-the-less. From what he could faintly recall of his clutchmates, the blue was one of the more subdued ones -- definitely not a troublemaker like Lanceth or their other blue brother had been. 'Seems we're not the only ones,' the brown went on to say, sending Qyprenna a flash of Poe taking care of Goliath with his own eyes. Upon seeing the other weyrling pair, the young woman immediately perked up. It'd be nice to have company!
"Hello, Poecai," Qyp said, setting her bucket down and her cane as she came to the spot where she took care of Catoth. "It's nice to see someone else has the same idea as we do." With that, she dipped her rag that she had in oil, and started to scrub down the brown's hide. It was time for his pampering, and she was going to made sure he fully enjoyed it.

Goliath made a deep, loud, happy sound, half bellow half yip at the sight of his brown brother. He would have given him a tackle hug if Poe hadn't been right there and if Catoth's rider hadn't been next to him. A reckless, adoring pounce tackle could hurt them, and Goli didn't want that at all, so he remained, positively wiggling with joy. Poecai could not help but grin at the sheer waves of positive feeling coming from her dragon, and she paused in her oiling to turn towards Qyp. “Qyprenna!” she greeted, a less-exuberant version of her dragon's greeting, “Good to see you!” which was a poor choice of words, but... well... Qyp had used it herself, so Poe didn't see any reason why she would have to mince words like a dumbstruck wherry. “Goliath is growing so fast that I swear he must soak up the oil the moment I put it on him.” she joked, dipping her rag in the oil again, “How about you?” she said quickly to Goliath before he could turn and look at her piteously with his big, innocent eyes.
Jokes were good, and not upsetting. he decided to tell Catoth, in case the other hadn't figured it out.

The brown couldn't help but chuckle, a low rumble resonating from his throat, when he saw Goliath's excitement. The blue was a gentle and innocent dragon, more so than most, and that made him almost child-like in a way. Catoth was quite fond of him, and had been ever since their hatching, though he wouldn't say it outwardly. Had he been more playful, himself, he probably would have pounced Goliath back in return, but that wasn't his way. More practical in mindset, he had his bonded to think about, as she was of the utmost importance. A sudden series of pounces would be ill-advised, as Qyprenna was right next to him, and thus at risk of being knocked over. He did not want to put the young woman through that. "Well met, Goliath," Catoth eventually replied, a fondness in his voice. "How've you been?"
Qyp only smiled when Poe asked her how she was doing, and continued on with her work. Catoth had gotten so big now, and the process of oiling him took more and more time the larger that he got. The weyrling didn't mind, however, as times such as this allowed the two of them to bond and spend time together. "They grow fast, don't they," she found herself commenting in response to Poe's comments on the rate of his growth. "Before you know it, they'll be flying, and then we'll be riding, and soon, you'll be graduating."
You. Not we.
As much as she wanted to say "we" in terms of graduation, Qyprenna knew in the back of her mind that she wouldn't be able to graduate to a wing like the rest of her peers. Her disability would bar her from such things, regardless of how much she wanted it to be otherwise. It was a sad thing to think about, but at the same time, she had to be practical. There would be something else out there for her to do -- something she learned to excel at. She would just have to find it. Still, a small twinge of sadness and apprehension ate at her and caused her stomach to knot up, if only slightly. Graduation was far from now, but she still had no idea what she was going to do after, and that was a little worrisome.
'Relax, dear one,' came Catoth's reassuring voice in her head, followed by the feeling of a caring, tight embrace. 'Everything will be ok.'

said Goliath happily, his lashing tail and gleaming eyes betraying his obvious and boundless delight at the company. he asked the brown, he sighed, heavily and happily, he said sadly, he chirped, his mood shifting suddenly to something more melancholy, he hung his head, briefly, in preemptive shame, then perked right back up, back to his usual happy self. Poecai had a few mood shifts herself. The reminder that Qyp was not going to graduate and join her in the sky hurt. If she had been faster... bolder... more daring... she could have saved Qyprenna from injury and she would still have her sight. Faranth's shell... it must he horrible for her. It felt like Poe's fault, and she was quiet as she absorbed the surge of guilt and regret back into herself. “Right.” she said quietly, “Graduation.” Goliath gave her a powerful snuggle, nearly knocking her over. Oil splashed on his blue hide as he rumbled happily at her, he admonished, blowing on her gently, as if he could make the bad feelings simply blow away. He was ridiculous. All right. She'd try. For him. “Any plans?” she asked casually, biting her lip to keep what she felt from spilling out. Guilt was as much a burden on another person as it was on the self, and Poecai did not wish that burden on Qyp. Not when she had so many other burdens to bear.

Little humans? It took him a moment, but then he realized that Goliath was speaking of the children that called the weyr their home, be their parents riders, crafters or otherwise. He wanted to say that he did, but frankly, he could not allow himself to do so. He had never been down to the creche with Qyprenna, which was probably a good thing now. Children were prone to running around and climbing, and the last thing he needed was for himself or his rider to be climbed all over or knocked into. 'I have not met any,' he admitted honestly, tail swishing thoughtfully from side to side as his sibling went on about them. 'Though I'm sure they love you, and I think it's quite fitting for you to spend time with them.'
Much like the human children he was so fond of, Goliath was an innocent soul. Allowing him to play with them was a nice fit. He would be gentle with them, and they would play and laugh and everyone would be happy. What did Poecai think of it, though? That was the real question. Clearly, though, she didn't mind too much, otherwise she wouldn't allow Goliath to go so often.
Finished with oiling down her dragon, Qyprenna then turned to buffing Catoth's claws. Left untouched, they could get quite sharp, and even when they were on the duller side, one still had to be careful. Dragons could do a lot of damage with just a simple swipe of their claws, as was evident by the scar over the weyrling's right eye. This would be the last bit of personal care she would do for her dragon, and then the pair of them would be done for today. As she started in her new task, her thoughts turned to possible plans for the future.
At first she replied with a shrug. It would be nice not to have to worry about it, a luxury that her peers would get. Wingleaders would approach B'tes to inquire about taking on the weyrlings, but that was basically out of the question for her. If she wanted a decent future, then she was going to have to figure it out on her own. "I'm hoping to talk to some crafting masters," she went on to say, a faint smile on her lips. "Weavingcraft and harpering, with an emphasis on politics and diplomacy for the latter."
Convincing a mastercrafter was going to be no easy feat.
Just the thought alone made her tired, and Qyprenna couldn't help but sigh.
"We'll see how it goes. What about you? Any wing in particular you want?"
Poe was quite the scrappy thing, so Qyp couldn't help but envision her in a combat wing.
Wing 2 would be a nice fit, she thought; her own squiremaster was a part of Wing 2, and before her accident, that was where she was hoping to end up as well.

It was difficult, sometimes, to oil Goli – he cuddled and nuzzled and made affectionate gestures so much that oiling was inevitably delayed and, sometimes, halted when important oiling devices fell to the ground or were spilled. He just loved to be affectionate. Fortunately, he was distracted by Catoth, and Poe could easily finish the duty of rubbing his thick hide down and buffing his claws. For her part, she was relieved that Qyprenna had a plan. “Diplomacy sounds good.” she said, “We need more people willing to talk with words, not fists...” she managed a smile, more for her sake than Qy's. “And weavers, too. I think you will do well...” But she wouldn't be a dragonrider. A dragon had chosen her, but she would never take to the sky with their ancient duty... It was supremely sad. “Wing 2.” she said, it was an obvious choice for her – rooting out wrongdoers and bringing forth justice. “Though... I'm not sure if Goli will be happy in a wing like that...” Goliath declared 'out loud' so that even Catoth could hear. he said quietly to the dragon, The thought made Goli sad. But Poecai would be happy there – and Poe's happiness made him happy. Sometimes being Goliath could be confusing...
