Keelthy poked at the fire in camp, he hadn't felt like going to the market today, so he lazed around camp. Really he would have to find a day job to keep him busy while his dance muse was on the fritz, maybe he could con Reill into a dance session instead of battle practice once in a while, it would keep Reill's footwork precise and it would greatly ease Keelthy's boredom. Their Janarim yawned on the other side of the fire and got up, his nose in the air. Casually he just walked off.

"Oh no you don't." Keelthy stomped after him intending to turn him back, but then he thought about it for a bit. He had nothing to do, so why not follow? Whatever trouble Xarthin got into would be a puzzle for Keelthy to solve. His mind desperately needed excersize. He had started to count stones he was so bored and as a lad with an active, constantly turning mind, that was just not acceptable. Something had to be done, something interesting!

Xarthin led him through the settlement, there were many different people here and he found that as they kept going the number of fire people diminished steadily. He wasn't sure if he should be nervous or not.

While Bhima's knowledge of the world around her had greatly broadened since the start of the war, she never would have expected to find Obans in Jahuar.

Her goal had been to travel out into the jungle and see if she couldn't find some high-quality crystal to turn into beads for trade. Whatever came of her and Hijil, she would need to support herself. She was still honeymooning just a bit, high from the newness of their relationship, but she was aware of it and that was the important part. It was getting easier to leave her to run errands and what have you, even if they were further from the trade district of Andile than she had ever been before. Her 'hunting grounds' were thus a bit different than usual, but she wasn't afraid. She was a Blade, after all, and the war had bolstered her confidence in her skills.

That didn't mean, however, that she didn't stop and turn when something rather large could be heard crashing through the underbrush. Bhima straightened her back and put a hand on the hilt of a blade. From the jungle came a snout, a pair of sharp fangs, a set of curled horns. ... oh no. Oh, no no no. She had helped to take down a few of these things, but she had never been alone! Should she run? Or should she fight? Her posture hunched lower to the ground and the breath picked up in her chest. On impulse, she drew both blades and lifted them, but didn't dare emit any sound that might draw the creature's attention.

A janarim is probably the best way to make sure Bhima doesn't try to deck you. 8D

Xarthin of course knew she was close as he could still smell her, he put his nose to the ground while Keelthy came up chattering at him with his puny human noises. Xarthin flicked his tail so Keel could find him.

"What are you looking for you great oaf?" Keel peeked around the janarim but could see nothing unusual. "I hope its just food because if you have scared the crap out of someone how am I to explain you."

Stubborn brat. Keel sighed. "If there is someone out there its okay, just come out slow so he doesn't get all excited. And if there is no one there then I am talking to myself and making a complete and utter fool of myself...again." He glared playfully at Xarthin and patted him on the head, almost getting nudged off his feet for his troubles. "You really don't know how scary you are do you?" Keel said, lifting up the great fanged head that they had grudgingly grown to love over time. He pulled it back and forth as though Xar was shaking his head. "I thought not." He was positive not all Janarim were patient enough to be manhandled this way but Xarthin just blew breath out on him..which was punishment enough. Keelthy choked on the putrid stench.

A person! There was a person with the beast! Something told her it wasn't necessarily the sort of person she'd want to run into in the jungle, or anywhere at all for that matter. Her choices were clear. She either had to stand as she had clearly been found or else jump out and engage the Earthling in battle and undoubtedly get her arms ripped off by a creature known to like the taste of Alkidike flesh.

Well then.

Bhima stood slowly, black eyes flickering between the dark-skinned Oban and his massive companion. Her blades were still drawn, just in case she should have to strike and make a break for it.

Her interactions with Obans up to this point had been purely in battle. She had impaled, slashed apart and bled a dozen of his kind. Was there still some forgotten war camp lingering in Jauhar, or was this something else? An antenna twitched toward the Oban while her eyes remained trained on the janarim.

Keelthy watched a woman seemingly sprout from the ground. Wow that took great stealth, she probably made a wonderful dancer and warrior from the looks of her..heavy on the warrior. He swallowed. "I'm so sorry, hes kind of hard headed, we are working on it, I think he thought you smelled interesting....otherwise I don't know why he would have bothered you.

The janarim approached slowly and Keel thought he might just be disturbing the peace like he was always so wont to do. And this was ..well not exactly a pet but a representative of the brothers and their house (shanty). "Again, I'm sorry, we are sending for someone who can teach us more. Apparently there is a shifter around here who has some experience with them, unfortunately we don't we left Oba too soon...due to extraneous circumstance." Keel walked up and tugged on Xarthin's tail trying to get him to leave the poor woman alone.

Well this was a fine fettle..why was it always him who got stuck with the janarim when it did something embarrassing? Was it because he spent more time with it, or because the janarim liked to torture him? He was thinking the later, as Reill usually laughed uproariously when he heard of what Keel had to go through with their...pet. He was sweating bullet by now, and walked up to try and pull Xarthin away by a horn. Considering how big the janarim was, this didn't work, not one bit. "Oh you, come now, leave her alone!" He squawked and yanked hard. He had a lithe dancers body not layer upon layer like his brother was starting to develop. Ugh why couldn't they have a rodent?!

So the Oban was... apologizing. Bhima realized that she had been holding her breath and let it go, peering down at the young man. The great beast seemed interested, sure, but it wasn't growling or trying to eviscerate her so perhaps for the moment she could mind the odd pair. This was a limber, lean sort of boy and far from the screaming riders she had met with her blades. In fact she wasn't sure he was armed at all, but then who would have to be with a traveling companion such as this? She didn't trust them, far from it, but she was definitely curious about them.

The Alkidike's blades found their way back into the sheaths, knowing full well that she could pull them out again at a moment's notice if need be. She looked up and down the janarim's head and neck and then turned to the young man beside it.

"Extraneous circumstances hm?" she asked. He seemed less like a warrior than a wandering minstrel. "You know, Obans are not welcome most places around here. It'd do you well to be careful. Then again, I imagine you're pretty safe with you... ah..." Her hand gestured toward the large horned creature. She knew the beasts by look but had never been given a name to call them by.

"Yes well in my family one does not simply become a dancer, if they do not choose between a sword a spear or basically a mallet then they have to go through a terrible public ordeal, of course father, who could have stopped them in their tracks mind you, was not there sadly, I bet he is still slamming heads against walls. Alas here me and my brother are safe and sound, I can dance and he can play with his sword buddies to our hearts content. And I wouldn't be out here if not for this brat so its kind of a viscious circle I think, I'm sorry again, It wasn't my intent to sick him on anyone, he sicks himself. Fortunately hes not entirely viscious."

Keel dipped his head respecfully and relaxed a little when her shiney blades went back where they belong whew. "My name is Keelthy and its er my pleasure? To meet you. I don't know what the protocol is for almost scaring the life out of someone, I myself am not inherently scary, I hold weapons like others would hold venomous snakes. By the tail with two fingers far away from the body.' He demonstrated.

As Bhima listened, her eyes grew wide. She hadn't been asking what the circumstances were, exactly, or maybe she just hadn't expected him to actually offer any information. What she got instead was half of a life story and all she could do was stand and listen.

"Huh." A dancer. She believed it. She also knew the pressure of picking up a weapon but it had never bothered her. "Well, I don't plan on setting an edge to you unless you make the first move, so I believe we have an understanding." The Alkidike offered a smile (they were becoming steadily more common) and a half-bow. "I'm Bhima. It's uh... a pleasure." She eyed the janarim as it stood passively. Huh, imagine, she had stabbed its cousins in the head and this one was quite alright just sniffing around. It really was all in ow you were raised, wasn't it? It was smart, though, to bring a war-beast with you if you couldn't handle a weapon.

"Where do you live, then? I don't know of any other settlements outside Alkidike and Shifter. Are you from Ast?" She knew Ast was alright with hybrid blood, but they still looked at her funny. She imagined they wouldn't like an Oban so much either. "Or is it more of an off-the-map sort of place?" Her posture was more relaxed now, one hand on her hip. While Bhima may not trust the boy enough to turn her back to him she at least didn't think he was a real threat.

Keelthy wasn't one hundred percent sure why it was so important to him that this alkidike woman understand his circumstances. Maybe he didn't want to make an enemy of her. He thought she might be affronted that he was here.
"Through the peace treaty we are allowed to settle where we are, and for now I would much rather be here then at home. Well its not precisely home there or here. But where my brother and parents are is."

Maybe she had never had her heart shattered like he had, without Reillan he would have buckled, and then again maybe she had, he wasn;t the only one to have a bruised path he was sure. His enthusiasm for this venture seemed to drain out of him and in an attempt to reclaim it he shoved those thoughts away.

"Think twice before you get a janarim, they can be a pain int he butt, although once won over I understand that they can be helpful. I'm not even sure what he would do if Reill or I were Attacked. Maybe watch, maybe defend us." he shrugged. "He behaves a bit like a teenager to my mind."

"Well, in certain circumstances I'd say you have the right even without the treaty. I don't imagine you and your brother plan to try and retake Neued any time soon." She did not mention that pre-treaty she might have attacked on sight, but maybe not. This boy hadn't made any move to fight. His over-sharing seemed to have comforted her a bit as well. He was just an Earthling whose people had made a destructive decision. Somehow it didn't seem that a disowned dancer had any say in his ex-king's advances.

"Ah, no. My girl and I have a pair of little kinfa at home. They're more like angry toddlers, and probably pretty tasty for predators. He's, um... he's--" She wanted to say 'cute,' but it wasn't true. She would probably never be able to see a domesticated janarim as anything but a war-beast. "He looks very powerful. What's his name?" She found she kind of wanted to pet the beast either way, but it didn't really seem safe.

"I don't think so, we have too much growing up to do." He was looking forward to that, growing up with the most important person in his life. Where would their path take them? Back to Oba? Sauti, Matori? It was a big question mark, but he did want to see his poor father and mother again. That he would approach when he and his brother were more able to deal with it, a little older a lot smarter.

"I don't think I have ever seen a kinfa, what do they look like? How big do they get?" They sounded much cuter then Xarthin.

"Xarthin is his name. Eheh, he is powerful, thats the problem, he has his own mind too." He patted the beasts nose. "I don't think he will hurt you if you would like to touch him, I think he kinda likes you actually. He doesn't not growl at too many people." Keelthy grinned and moved his hand up a bit to make room for hers if she so chose. He figured his own touch would reassure him. He was thinking a kinfa might make a good pet. More feather less claw.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 08, 2015 1:52 pm

"No? Well they don't usually move into the jungle, I guess. They're big birds, really. They have a feathery fluff on their heads as babies. They get big enough to ride, I hear, not that I would necessarily ever trust my life to the little green devil back home." The thought of flying on the back of something that relied on her for survival and regularly fell over itself was a bit too much at the moment.

She turned to the janarim then and looked it over, considering the risks. If it had growled at her she probably would have run, but if it growled at her now she could just take a few steps back, right? Keelthy wouldn't wander around with a beast he couldn't control, right? She reached out and laid her hand on the janarim's hide where its master (or bond or whatever the Oban boy was to it) had moved away. Huh. The last time she'd interacted with one of these was to try and stab it in the gut.

"Really? They sound a lot cuter then fangy here. If they don't live in the jungle where should I look for one?" He asked, growing more and more fond of the idea of one of these creatures. He was sure if you raised something from a small size that it would be better trained then the already grown ones, he thought that Xar might be young, maybe they were more fortunate then they thought that he wasn't older.

Xarthing nudged the hand in a friendly manner. "I think he likes you, and thats not really that common he has picky tastes when it comes to liking people, hes not altogether that fond of market streeth either, maybe because there are too many people." Keel mused and smiled at the pair, he took his hand off completley, and Xarthin didn't seem to mind much at all. Maybe he was just glad that Bhima wasn't yet another dude. Keel snickered. "Maybe hes just tired of guys."

"Are the kinfa from that rocky place? Sauti, I think its called."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 12, 2015 7:34 pm

"To be honest, I haven't seen many kinfa in my life," Bhima nodded. Every so often one would fly by, they were so close to Tale, but it was unheard of to find them trundling around in the middle of the forest as far as she knew. Some of her sisters had kinfa, but that didn't mean they had found them nearby. The Alkidike could not help but smile when Keelthy removed his hand and left her to pet the janarim on her own. It was still a dangerous, powerful beast... but this one wasn't so bad, she thought. Maybe it was in the training.

"Sauti? Maybe," Bhima nodded. "Somewhere they can fly freely." Would Atipi ever be able to fly? She and Hijil would have to try and keep the girls on some sort of instinctual path. "What's its name?" she asked, nodding to the great beast between them. Presumably it had one. How did one discover the gender of a janarim?

His name is Xarthin, and he kinda found us, well he found Reillan who unfortunately sucks at climbing trees so he went for fight instead of flight. Xar batted him around a bit, and has since slept between or beside us like every night since. It is my humble opinion that he has just reached or is nearing full growth and as such is still a teenager in attitude, he likes to tease abominably. "

"I think its a bit harder for Reill to understand him, but I'm not entirely sure why."

Keel patted one of Xarthin's horns, "Would you like some tea? Our camp is just on the other side of the trees, its getting rather large but I see no reason why you can't come for some tea and treats. If someone starts trouble I'm pretty sure Xar will vouche for you."

The Janarim had curled himself around the alkidike and hummed happily at her.
