She was...well...lost was the best word for it. Abandoned. Larka's ears, which curled at the tips, folded back in an expression of fear. She'd never been a bad cat. She'd never deserved to be dropped from the sometimes-loving arms of her teenage master, but he'd always been too busy. Girlfriends, homework, sports. He came home, pet her, and went to sleep. She guessed he just had too much going in his life. So he'd let her out of the house and, being naturally a nervous cat, she fled. And now she was lost... Except for the fact that she didn't think her teenage master really wanted her back. But if she didn't have a master...then what did that make her? Low booming bass barks startled her, her tail puffing up three times its fluffy size, and the young girl skittered away from the fence that separated her and a giant brown dog. Her hands hovered above her heart, heartbeat rapid as she tried to calm down, and she began to run. This wasn't fair! She didn't choose this. She didn't deserve this! A noise alerted her and she froze, gripping handfuls of her skirt in case she needed to make another run. "H-Hello?" Larka asked quietly, her voice a hush of sound. She'd not been alone long... How she wanted it to be a friendly face...

Akiko had been wandering for about a week now. She had been a family cat, well loved for two years. She had a cat door, roamed in and out, and slept on the bed with her people. Then, all of a sudden, when she come home one day they were gone. The house was empty, all of her favorite furniture was gone, and all that was left was one full bowl of cat food. It only took her a few days to eat through it, and her stomach had been rumbling. She set off down the street in search of food after deciding she had been permanently abandoned. She figured she had walked maybe...15? 20 miles? in the last week. Her fur was now grungy, and she turned to look at her tail in disgust. A pedigree ragdoll such as herself should NOT be wandering the streets like this. None the less, she had been catching her own rats and eating from cat bowls left on front porches. She could hold her own. She had been watching another collared cat with funny ears for a minute now. She attempted to step closer without being noticed but her paw crunched down on a leaf and the other one noticed her. Damn. Now she had to introduce herself. She stepped out the branches, her tail swaying behind her. "The name's Akiko. You look like you haven't been out for long. Where's your home?"

Larka straightened up, skinny arms wrapping around her too-skinny frame. She, on the other hand, had been picking at trash rather disdainfully, but food was food and she needed the energy. Still... She was no show cat. The past was hazy, but she remembered cages and the reek of disease and waste, metal bars and the sickly purr of her mother before she and her siblings were taken away. Prettied up and planted behind the bars in a pet store before her teenage master chose her. Her past was one of the reasons for her skittishness. Akiko... She sniffed the air, then slowly smiled, but it looked forced. Truth was, her heart was pounding so hard she thought she might pass out. "Um--I... I'm Larka," she said, stumbling over her words. She sniffled and stepped closer, wary. "No. Not long. I don't...know where I am, I don't know where to go. I just... I want to go home," she said softly, forcing back tears. "Do you have a home? My master..." She closed her eyes, shook her head, and sniffed again. "He let me outside. I've been on my own ever since. Is it possible to live happy on the streets like...rats...?"

" I had a home, but I was left to wander like trash. They left me one stinkin' bowl and left. Akiko unconsciously began glaring and swishing her tail in annoyance. "People are overrated anyways... I'm still not sure if its possible to be happy like this. I know I'm not. My coat is all grimy..." She picked up her tail in disgust before dropping back to the ground like a piece of trash.

Larka blinked quickly, taking a hesitant step towards the grungy-furred cat who looked like she'd been out on the streets a lot longer than Larka herself. She tucked her hands under her armpits, the dress she wore now frayed at the hem from dragging the ground. She flicked her tail to the side, grasping it in both hands, as if the feel of the fur under her palms might calm her. "They left you alone too?" she repeated, head tipped to one side, her nearly silver blonde hair falling into her face. "But without people..." She trailed off, looking around, back over her shoulder as if fear of that barking dog might come back. "Surely there are cats who can make it on their own! Right, Akiko?" She held onto that hope. "Maybe... Maybe we should look for others. My master always spoke of the street cats, the ferals... We should find someone who knows what they're doing..." Though still, she desperately missed the comfort of her teenage master's arms...
