Actually truth be told if he was being honest he wanted more than just the one cupcake and he'd wanted it for a while. The thick white cast on his right arm was the reason why he didn't just opt for his general solution which was to bake.
No baking and no crafting - not since getting injured as his powered counterpart Athene back on the 8th during the Order attempt to rescue those that the Negaverse had kidnapped during a ball that had turned out to be a trap.
He missed baking, missed crafting even more, but knew that he wasn't up for either - at least not until the cast came off. And he being good and not patrolling due to the fact that he knew that right now he'd be more liability than help.
Fortunately for his cupcake cravings there were alternative ways to getting his fix - such as the one he was exercising in the form of a visit to A&H Bakeries. He'd been there on and off since his first visit back in 2013 sometime and was on their mailing list because they did really good cupcakes with the chocolate minis in particular being a favourite of his.
He got there just as a customer was leaving, a part of him feeling relieved as the other held the door for him, thanking the woman with a quiet thank you as he slipped past her and into the shop proper and pausing for a moment to take in all the delicious scents.

While Arias seemed to be busy, judging by the number of people now sitting at tables with fresh sweets, just as he was standing wiping his forehead on the back of his arm, he spotted Arian. A grin blossomed and he waved his hand to invite the male closer to the counter.
The enthusiasm was tapered somewhat when his eyes drifted to the cast on his arm, and worry quickly replaced the smile. He did not wait for Arian to make it to him, but instead moved from behind the counter and approached the male.
"Arian," he greeted, quickly recalling his name. "What is this, what happened?"
There was no falseness in his voice, only genuine concern as he looked over the cast. The way he tilted his head and seemed to be prepared to circle him implied he had a distinct need to ensure Arian was sporting no other such injuries, though he refrained—even if only just barely.
Arian had given Arias a small smile in return when he had caught sight of the brown-haired baker behind the counter, a slight nod his way of acknowledging the other's wave as he started to make his way over. Going by the number of people around, it seemed that his cupcake craving had managed to time itself to one of the bakery's busy periods with the chatter from some of the tables forming background noise - one with something of a happy buzz to it.
He hadn't considered how the other would react to seeing the cast and Arias deciding to round the counter and head in his direction had taken him by surprise, although it hadn't stopped him from continuing to head in the direction of the counter.
He'd had actually discussed what to say if asked any queries about his accident with Orah, the two of them agreeing that keeping the lie simple was best.
"It was an accident" he said quietly, adding "I was careless."
He hated the lying that was part and parcel of having a powered alter-ego and knew he wasn't particularly good at it, but it wasn't like he could tell the truth - not to someone not already in the know. At best if he was lucky they'd probably think that he was crazy and at worst - at worst it could be downright dangerous both for himself and for those he cared for.
He managed a rueful smile, trying to shift the subject from his injury as he admitted "I was hoping to get one of your cupcakes" then thought about it and admitted "Well most likely more than one, since it's been a bit of a while since I've had any."
After all the cast was a severe limiter on his ability to bake.

Arias looked like he wanted to fuss over Arian more, but he managed to keep his distance. "I'm sorry to hear that—you let me know if I can do anything, that looks rough. You need to take it easy!"
He lingered for a moment and then just shook his head and a smile returned to his face. "You can absolutely have as many as you like. I'll pack you up as many as you can carry. Or—do you need a delivery? I can drop some off if you don't want to carry a lot back."
…Arias seemed intent to load him up with as many cupcakes as he could manage; everyone knew cupcakes were the fastest way to encourage healing. "—On the house, I can't take your money today. It would be careless of me to want to charge you. How long do you have to wear the cast for?" he asked, finally moving back behind the counter so he could fetch whatever cupcakes Arian might fancy.

I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS TOOK SO LONG I am so sorry orz
"I'm trying" Arian admitted. Saffy had been on about him taking it easy too - although she'd been more vocal about it - a lot more vocal.
He really was trying though - well okay being effectively pretty much one handed was pretty much forcing him to take things easier.
It would be nice when he could bake for himself and take up crafting again though.
He smiled when Arias asked him about the cupcakes "I wouldn't mind having a couple of your chocolate ones here with some hot chocolate and then get some to take away" he admitted. "It's nice being able to get out and about rather than just being around the apartment."
His voice turned rueful at Arias' query on how long he would have the cast for "The doctors' said about a month" he said, adding "I'm going to have to do all the catch up with classes though once the cast comes off." His classes were mainly practical ones given the nature of his degree and the cast was therefore a severe limiter on his ability to do anything for them.
He absently tugged on some the strands of his hair in the ponytail as he continued "A delivery would be great for the take out cakes though if it's not too much trouble" it would save him carrying the box on the bus and he thought he had enough money to cover both the cakes and the delivery charge...
His thoughts tailed off as what Arias said about it being on the house finally sunk in "That's really nice of you, but are you sure?" He wasn't trying for upset or to cause offence by his question - it being more down to the fact that it was a lot of cupcakes.

Arias gave him a skeptical look as he began gathering some chocolate cupcakes. "Please. I honestly can't charge you for this. I'll take down your address in a bit and we can figure out a good drop off time, but I can load you up with some chocolate cupcakes and hot chocolate for now. Are you really afraid you'll be ordering that much?"
He couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head. "No, I've made the offer and I am happy to fulfill it. Perhaps it's strange, but I've come to think of you as a friend. You have such a warm personality about you, it's easy to get lost in it. Besides—I can't help but want to do something nice for you. I had a cast for a while when I was a kid and I hated it. Everything was so frustrating and I felt so useless. So—I'd rather you think of this as a 'get well' present from a friend then a cupcake order. I really do wish you a speedy recovery."
There was something infectious about Arias' laugh and Arian felt his lips quirk up into one of his small smiles in answer.
"I'm not used to people thinking of me as warm" he admitted, a touch of ruefulness tinting his quiet voice. When he thought of warm, he tended to think of Orah, his flatmate and friend a real sweetheart - besides Arian knew he tended towards quiet.
"But I'd like that - us being friends" another of his small smiles "And not just because you make great cupcakes."

"You're very sweet. And not just because I make great cupcakes," he said, and winked, and then figured he'd overstepped a boundary so laughed—a bit nervously this time—and hastened to finish collecting the cupcakes. He closed the box and then fetched a Styrofoam cup and some hot chocolate before returning.
"—Anyway, about that delivery," he said, picking up a piece of paper and a pen before sliding them over as well. "If you want to write down what you want, where you want it and when you want it, I'll be there with it."
Arian could feel his cheeks redden at Arias’ comment, but the other was nice enough not to comment on it, instead bustling off to somewhere with another laugh.
It had occurred to him belatedly that he was still standing and so he walked over to the nearest empty table to where he’d been standing and sat down.
It didn’t take Arias long to return with the hot chocolate and some cupcakes and for a moment Arian cupped the styrofoam cup in his good hand so that he could indulge in a long appreciative sniff of the rich smell of chocolate.
There was something about hot chocolate - especially when paired with cupcakes…
His cheeks reddened again as Arias’ voice broke into his internal musing, as it occurred to him that perhaps he was being overly appreciative of the sweet treats.
Even if the cast had been kind of a downer in his ability to indulge his sweet tooth lately.
Arian turned his attention to the paper and pen that Arias slid over his way. Ordinarily writing his address down wouldn’t be a problem, however the cast on his right arm meant that writing with that hand was kind of out - which was kind of unfortunate given that his right hand just so happened to be his dominant hand and whilst he figured that he could probably write out the address of the apartment that he shared with Orah using his left hand, it would probably take close to forever to do so.
There was also the fact that it would be a toss-up on whether the end result would even be readable.
“Actually would you mind if I tell you the address instead” he said his quiet voice slightly rueful as he continued “It’s just that I’m right-handed and I’m not sure if the scrawl that would pass for my attempt to try writing with my left hand would be particularly legible.”

For a second, Arias sat still, and then it was his turn to look embarrassed and he laughed again. "Oh—Right, yeah. No, that's no problem. When I broke my arm I got so frustrated I tried to learn with the other hand. It," he paused and then laughed, shaking his head. "It was awful."
He turned the paper back towards himself and let the pen hover just an inch or so over it, ready to take down the order. He didn't seem in any rush, and now that they were sitting seemed like he might just want to take as long as he could; being on your feet all day made him appreciate the luxury of a moment sitting.
"I was more frustrated that I couldn’t talk to my parents as well, though. We communicate with sign language—they can't hear that much. I broke two fingers on my dominant hand and my middle on the other, so it wasn't a good few months. My little sister was a good sport about it. Most of the time. But I think I frustrated her. Apparently," he flashed another quick grin as he looked from Arian back to the paper. "I talk too much."
"I've been lucky that I've had my flat mate to help me out with things" Arian admitted. "So I haven't had to try to do everything on my own." Actually if Arian was being honest, he was pretty sure that he wouldn't have been able to manage if he'd been on his own - keeping his hair neat for one would have been pretty much impossible one handed.
There was also the fact that Orah didn't nag at him the way that Saffy had been doing... Although it probably helped that Orah, unlike Saffy was one of the few people privy to the real reason why his arm was in a cast.
Arian drank some of the hot chocolate as he listened to Arias continue to talk and whilst he didn't comment, his eyes were sympathetic beneath his glasses, because being frustrated over not being able to do things due to being injured was something that he could get given that he was in that particular boat and whilst Orah was great and everything there were times when it was annoying that he couldn't things that he had taken for granted.
Arian would never tell Orah that and besides he knew that it was only temporary - just a month - even if sometimes it did feel like the month was taking forever to go by.
He drank some more of his hot chocolate "Sign language sounds a lot more interesting than the Latin that they made us learn at the school I went to before I came here - much more useful too." Not that Arian had done Latin for that long given that he had dropped the classes as soon as he'd been able to.
He took some more sips of the hot chocolate before adding "And I'm not sure I'd agree with the 'talk too much' assessment, a rueful note slipping into his quiet voice as he admitted "Although that's not something that I've ever been accused of doing."
It finally belatedly occurred to Arian that he had yet to give Arias his address and his expression turned slightly flustered as he glanced at the hovering pen with a "Sorry, I'm keeping you from your work" before rattling off the address of the apartment that he shared with Orah.

my turn to apologise Kyu - work turned pretty crazy and I have only just started working on tags again

Arias just laughed and shook his head. "You're not keeping me, don't worry," he said, scribbling it down. "It's nice to get a little bit of a break. I feel like I've been moving around all day and it's only just now starting to catch up to me." He didn't seem to be just trying to appease Arian; he looked rather comfortable propped against the counter, and even with the soft smile, he looked like he could have used a bit of a rest.
Working was genuinely enjoyable to Arias, so he wasn't going to complain, but to just take a break, to stop moving for a minute—or spend time with someone as pleasant as Arian? He didn't even have to fib to say it was nice.
"Latin is pretty complicated, though. You must be very intelligent if you made it through those classes," he said, eyes focused on the paper as he wrote.
A few seconds later, he looked up and smiled with a bit more enthusiasm. "All right! That's one down—do you want a current list of our cupcakes, or do you know what you want?"
"I, we didn't really have much of a choice" Arian admitted "And to be honest ability didn't really play much of a part since we all had to do Latin - at least up until the point where we started on our GCSE classes."
"GCSEs are UK exams which are taken at 16" his quiet voice turned rueful "And I was so sure that I'd get out of taking them since I was moving here - but then they managed to work things out with Meadowview specially so I could sit the exams."
He hadn't been too enthusiastic about it when he'd found out having anticipated a summer spent doing not a lot of anything apart from hitting the bead shops that he'd googled, but instead he had ended up spending most of the time in the library first revising for exams and then playing catch up on the classes that it turned out he was behind in, due to differences between UK and USA schooling.
He shook his head, "It all worked out though I guess and Meadowview was pretty okay." Even if he'd hated the uniform and the silly shorts.
At Arias' question he considered things for a moment in between drinking a bit more of the hot chocolate "I wouldn't mind seeing your current list" he decided, because whilst he was tempted to go for some chocolate minis - because Arian really, really liked the sprinkle-topped chocolate cupcakes - other flavours were fun as well.

Arias nodded as he listened to the male explain his curriculum; it was all foreign to him so he seemed to be listening with genuine interest. "I'm happy it worked out," he said with an earnest grin; he reached under the counter to pull out a menu. The list of cupcakes wasn't terribly extensive. On the laminated menu they had their staple products, and on the second sheet of paper Arias pulled out were their seasonal items.
"To be honest," he said as he passed the two over, "If there's anything special you want, I can make it." There was no cockiness, just a guarantee. He didn't like to disappoint, and if that meant he had to practice all night to perfect a new recipe or adapt one of the old ones, he'd do it.
"So if it's not on the menu, let me know what you're thinking and I'll give it a whirl."
"Thank you" Arian said quietly, with a slight smile at Arias' offer, although he wasn't intending to take the other up on it - not because it wasn't a sweet offer since it really was - however Arian didn't want to make Arias go through any extra trouble on his behalf. "I'm sure I'll find something on your specials list - you have fun ones."
Despite his mention of specials, Arian took time to scan both the offered menus thoughtfully, although it didn't take him too long to look through the list of the staple flavours given that he popped in relatively regularly.
It took him more time to scan through the specials list as he tried to choose between the a couple of the flavours before ending up going for one of each.
"I can't choose" he admitted ruefully "Because both of these sound really good - so can I go for one of each of the gingerbread and vanilla and cinnamon cupcakes."

hope it's okay to reference cupcake flavours - I kind of scanned around and picked a couple that seemed to be on the specials list of a few bakeries around winter time, but always go back and change it :3
