Kadyrelite suppressed a shudder with difficulty. This was perhaps her second or third trip to the Rift and it wasn't any less creepy than she recalled. And perhaps, it was made even creepier by the fact that she wasn't here to recieve orders for a mission or for a meeting.

She was here for a very personal talking to. And more than likely punishment, if the grim tone of the Captain who'd caught her was any indication. She wasn't entirely sure who she'd been reported to. But hopefully they'd give her a chance to explain herself.

Sighing a little as she fidgeted and rocked on her feet, she thought that really, it wasn't at all fair. She'd only wanted information! She wasn't a traitor!

Almost without thinking, she murmured an echo of her thoughts into the darkness.

"I'm not a traitor..."

The Rift, with its crystals and parapets, was an easy place to have private vantage to watch paths throughout the hidden city. Hidden halls and hidden homes, hidden dreams and walking nightmares all encapsulated in a lurid violet glow. The Lieutenant had arrived with a Captain's escort through the Hall.

Kadyrelite. General Ops, inception early 2014. Weapon, plastic Spurs. Teenager.

The General moved, silent steps and leaps from crystal to crystal down to the path out of sight. Straightened, and started to walk up it to meet the girl. "To argue with yourself, you must be in doubt, girl. What doubts trouble you, Lieutenant? What do you define as treason?"

At the sound of another voice, Kadyrelite squeaked and spun around, somehow managing to not fall flat on her a**. Feeling more than a little startled, she fired off a shaky salute as she watched the General approach.

Mouth openign and closing rather like a fish, she tried to find the words to answer the General's questions. Finally, she managed a soft, "I don't know, ma'am."

Even as the words left her, she winced. Of all the stupid things to say. But it was also truth. She didn't know how she'd define treason. Only that she didn't consider learning purely for the sake of learning to be on the list. Still, after a moment, she tried again.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I don't know exactly how to answer your second question. And I'm fairly sure that I haven't got any doubts troubling me. I just... I only went to talk to her because I wanted information and no one else knew or was willing to talk about it."

Since she couldn't be sure how much that tiny Captain had mentioned, Kadyrelite figured being as truthful as possible was the only option.

"If you cannot define it, how do you know you aren't a traitor?"

The General came to a stop facing the other officer, within arms reach should the need arise. "If you do not know what is treason, then you do not know what isn't either. I will educate you. "

"What are you a part of, Kadyrelite, and who do you serve?" Schörl's hazel eyes, hard in gaze, sought out the Lieutenant's.

Standing ramrod straight, all Kadyrelite could do was watch the General approach and come to a stop before her. Staring into those hazel eyes warily, she had to admit to herself that the lady had a point.

Oh, but she did not like the sound of being educated.

Blinking, she managed to maintain eye contact and even answer without much hesitation.

"I'm part of the Dark kingdom, ma'am. I serve Metallia."

Perhaps if she'd left it at that, she'd have been all right. But her impulsive nature wouldn't let her rest without adding in an almost breathless whisper.

"I just wanted to understand the mechanics. I didn't want to run away and Purify!"

Schörl sucked in her lower lip, looking to the side and up, humming against her teeth at complete answer. "Kingdom....yes. You are a member of a military, Kadyrelite. A collective authorized to use lethal force, and weapons, to support the interests of the organization and most of all, above all, of our Sovereign, Metallia. Hierarchy is important in the military. Hierarchy is very important in a monarchy. monos ,‘alone and arkhein, ‘to rule.’ She rules alone. Metallia's will is our utmost wish."

"Metallia's will is best interpreted by those of rank who she has invested more of her power and mind into. The chain of command is the line of authority and responsibility along which orders are passed. Sometimes orders are explicit and detailed, sometimes they are a goal, and the lower-ranked personnel is given leeway of their cleverness and ingenuity to complete a general task. "

The general stepped forward, taking a hold of the Lieutenant's wrist from salute to pull the limb out and forward. The motion looked gentle, but there was strength and solidity in it that brooked no resistance. The General's second hand caressed open the poor girls palm, dragging fingerpads along fingerpads. "The tasks were clear, Kadyrelite. What were those orders? From Apatite? You do know Apatite, and her rank? What were the goals given to the mission."

Kadyrelite stared at the General as if half-mesmerized while she spoke. For once, she didn't think of interupting or trying to argue. And when her wrist as seized, she bit back against the impulse to pull away, simply standing there and trying to not shiver too obviously. Sure, the tiny Captain had been alarming in her hotly angry way. This lady, with her seeming calm and her obvious strength was utterly terrifying.

Nodding in agreement where it seemed appropriate, Kadyrelite's eyes strayed to the hand that the General held in an iron grip. She's going to kill me. Or rip my arm out or something. Oh, I am ********. The mental litany against her poor life choices almost drowned out the General's soft questions. Jerking her head and eyes back up, the lieutenant gaped like a landed fish for a moment before she could get her voice to cooperate with her brain.

"General Queen Apatite said to take them captive, keep them alive until she stated otherwise and to use whatever means necessary to learn their secrets. To keep them drained and away from each other."

She couldn't help but feel that she was failing this test, but it was what she knew from being placed as a guard at the funhouse.

"Do you like drawing this out, luv." It was toned as an observation rather than a question. The general's idle petting paused, then reversed to draw the backs of nails lightly over Kadyrelite's half-gloved finger pads, then palm, then paused and petted circles over wrist. That moment and pause was drawn out into a long, purposefully uncomfortable span of time.

"Partial credit is the crutch of children and laggards. You aren't focused, not at your very, very best. I demand the very best. I will have it. " Thumbnail was pressed painfully to the bare heel of the Lieutenant's palm, pressure left to built there in bruise of the tissues beneath. But there was a threat or more, or worse, behind that hard nail. There was something moving in the general's coat. It was unseen, shifting a way a woman's muscles shouldn't under the sleeve and along.

"Those 'secrets' were public in the ranks. Those 'secrets' were the very specific pieces of information any of us were supposed to be angling for. But you weren't being circumspect to get the information, or trying to break their wills. What orders, what information, were you deliberately ignoring and disobeying in favor of your own aims? Your own goals and petty wants. Putting your want above that of the need of the General Sovereign and above the Desire and Want of Metallia. "

"What were they, girl."

Feeling more and more like a baby rabbit sitting under the watchful eyes of a hungry wolf, Kadyrelite found herself less and less able to focus on what the General was saying, her own acid green eyes locked onto the woman's arm and the odd and very wrong movement just under the sleeve. Not even the painful bite of the nail in her palm was able to break that fascination. Even the mental loop focusing on doom didn't even sound as loud in her head anymore.

Kadyrelite wasn't even sure what the General was asking of her. The secrets she'd learned? Or the things she'd snuck around to try and ferret out? All she cared about at this point was making it out of this dressing down in one piece. And to that effect, she began to babble like the veriest brook.

"I only wanted to know how Purification works, ma'am. Just the mechanics. I didn't understand why it was such a big deal, honestly, I didn't! I asked the Knight lady if she'd ever seen it happen and how it worked and I swear, I wasn't going to run away to do it. I just wanted to understand and learn. I'm not a traitor, I swear I'm not, I just wanted to learn."

The part of her brain that still had the slightest bit of control over her tongue managed to mercifully silence her before she started to babble about her ovipositor theory. If she'd thought that the Captain wouldn't' have been much interested, she was absolutely certain that this terrifyingly intimidating woman would be even less so.

"Travel to the moon, Sailor Cosmos, the glowing and uncorruptible members of their kind, and information regarding a supposed future that they're selling and inflicting on the whole of the magical community- THESE are the 'secrets' that were in the orders to find. These an no others. 'Purification', as the Moon Court calls it, is not on that list, Lieutenant. "

"Think. Information drawn from an unbroken subject is peppered by propaganda. There are our own order who know these answers intimately. Captain Linarite for one, the Information Specialists, the very General King Zinkenite who brought her back, could have gifted you accurate report AFTER you had completed the given mission."

"It is a big deal because you deliberately ignored orders. You put yourself and other agents in danger. You put your petty, childish, half-baked wants higher in priority than those of a General Sovereign. You didn't think. These, girl, " Schörl shifted her grip on the wrist, then pushed her thumbnail into the wrist to break the skin. Drew it steadily across, lacerating open the top layers of epidermis. A nose appeared out from the sleeve, scaled and sleek. A head, neck, lengthy body coiling out and curious. The General did not let go of Kadyrelite's wrist as it welled and bled. "Are. a. big. deal."

Trigger warning: Body Horror

Still watching the writhing and twisting form with the General's sleeve, Kadyrelite had given up on trying to remain stoic. Shaking like an epileptic chihuahua, she felt her mouth go dry as the General continued to speak. The best she could do was remain silent and not admit to having never heard of Captain Linarite. Or admit to the fact that she'd honestly never even thought of going to the intel guys.

Her terrified brain barely registered the General's shifting grip. At least until a hot burst of pain snapped her attention to her wrist and the line of welling red. A hissing whimper of pain forced its way from her throat and just barely avoided becoming a startled shriek when the snake-like thing crawled out of the General's sleeve.

It... it was just the General's personal youma. It had to be. It was there to help drive home just how badly she'd ******** up. Of course. Except it wasn't staying with the General, it was nosing the blood seeping from her wrist, delicately forked black tongue flickering out to taste. With what sounded, to Kadyrelite at least, to be a satisfied hiss, the sleek youma turned it's darkly mottled head to glance at the General before giving a deep nod.

There was no time to scream as what Kadyrelite had thought to be markings suddenly burst from the youma's body to become tiny, almost shark like fins. Rearing up a little, the youma cast a look at Kadyrelite's pale face before snorting in obvious amusement. Well, she thought faintly, if it wanted to scare her, it was doing a good job. Maybe it would go back to being all snakey and crawl back up the General's sleeve now.

As if it caught her thoughts, the youma retracted it's fins and seemed co oil over on itself. Just as Kadyrelite was beginning to relax a tiny bit, to hope that it was over, the youma reared again, and with a speed she never would be believed, dove for the cut on her wrist, forcing it's head under her tissue and working it's way inside.

Screaming in mingled revulsion and pain, Kadyrelite flailed and twisted against the iron-like grip on her wrist. Before her horrified eyes, the youma wormed it's way up her arm, the flesh above it lumping grotesquely. A coppery taste flooded her mouth and she realized dimly that she'd bitten her tongue in her struggles. In that same dim corner of her mind, she could distinguish words within her screams. All mostly frantic apologies for her gross lack of though and promising to be good if only the General would stop the invading youma.

Pain blossomed near her shoulder as the youma coiled it's way around the joint and paused. It's tail tip had vanished through the cut along her wrist and for a moment, she dared to hope that it might be over.

And that was when the worst pain of all ignited her body as the youma coiled and wriggled it's way into her chest, dangerously close to her heart. Horrifyingly close to where she knew her starseed rested. The flesh of her arm smoothed again as the rest of the youma's body circled and writhed itself into a neat and invisible bulk within her.

Panting and hoarse from screaming, Kadyrelite sagged on the floor before the General, tears and blood dripping from her bowed face. What she could only begin to describe as an obscenely satisfied sigh made itself felt with in as something else spoke briefly from within.

My, you are a stupid thing. You deserve this punishment and will be ever so much better for it. Strytha knows.

Then, she heard a soft, hissing voice coming from her throat and shuddered uncontrollably.

"She is not entirely hopeless, General Schorl. Young, foolish, impulsive. Strytha will have it's work cut out for it. But Strytha will teach her better. How long do you wish the lessoning to be?"

Trigger warning: Violence

It was a small matter to lift the lieutenant from her sag by her arm. Up, and took hold of her throat this time for hold. Second hand left wrist to pet the open skin of collar and chest once appreciatively. "Sadly, intelligence isn't something that can be taught. But Cleverness is. The wise fool is a truth we can manage, for this poor girl's sake. She will be wise, clever, better than she is now. Wisdom to seek others, to carry word where it needs to go...many things need wisdom more than plain intellect. And she will be a good soldier then, won't she?"

When you earn your name again, you can be more than a reference, pet.

Nails were pressed against, into, the skin over clavicle and ribs to sheer open another slot. Then a hard tap of nails on sternum over where starseeds were usually accessed. "She's very bad at out of sight, out of mind yet, Strytha. Come beautiful, let yourself be always known. And your warning if she fails you both. "

Trigger warning: Body Horror

Kadyrelite could no more have resisted being lifted up than she could have held up the moon. Struggling and twitching feebly, she knew she should have felt alarmed at being held by the throat, but somehow, it seemed a very minor thing compared to having a youma setting up house within her. She could feel it inside, as it's sleek form coiled and flicked to make itself comfortable.

But the General, Schorl? was talking again and the lieutenant felt that she needed to be paying attention. Blinking blearily, she tried to figure out why everything had a pink-ish tinge now.

Poor darling, the youma inside hissed soothingly and somehow, Kadyrelite knew that this communication was private between them. Strytha was not broadcasting for the General's benefit at the moment. Your screams were rather... intense. You've burst many of the blood vessels within your eyes and likely screamed yourself hoarse in the bargain. Minor things, they will heal in time.

She wanted to be sarcastic back at the youma, but lacked the coherency for it at the moment. Instead, she opened her mouth to assure the General that she would, indeed, be a very good soldier. Only to gasp as Schorl's nails pressed into her skin once more. Her words were confusing too, Kadyrelite thought. What warning? Wasn't a youma inside of her warning enough?

Once again, her throat was commandeered by the youma and the oily, flattering tone made Kadyrelite flinch.

"As you wish, my General. Strytha is ever yours to command. And pain is, after all, the best teacher."

Before the young lieutenant could even think to brace herself, she let out a sobbing, whimpering scream as Strytha pressed itself against the inside of her breastbone, pushing and cracking ribs from within until she felt like she would black out from the pain. A quick glance down revealed a slight bulge showing a faint outline of the tiny monster's face and wickedly glowing eyes. Then, Strytha pulled away and the impression was gone.

Then, a sharp, burning pain from inside like nothing she'd ever known hit and Kadyrelite tried to double over in spite of the hand gripping her throat, tried to curl in on herself out of sheer self-preservation. The little beast was attacking her heart and starseed from within... And with that realization, the pain ceased and Strytha was once again addressing the General.

"That was simply one bite, but without my usual venom. Do you judge that to be a sufficient warning, my General? If her thoughts stray again, I shall have no problem reminding her of the dangers of such nonsense. And if, at the end of the lessoning, she is without any merit, perhaps you will permit me to consume her starseed from within and leave her husk to rot within the rift?"

Then, once more, Strytha was speaking only to her, within her head.

Of course, it won't have to come to that. You will listen to sweet Strytha, no? Darling, little Kadyrelite will do what she must to please Strytha and to please the General, won't she? The poor darling is no traitor, Strytha senses your loyalty even now to the Dark Kingdom. A strong starseed. But it must become stronger.

Helplessly, Kadyrelite could only try to nod in agreement with both youma and General.

At last, the General set the girl free of grasp, whether to crumple to the ground or to stand in dazed. painful penitence on Kadyrelite 's own endurance.

"You are dismissed, Lieutenant. I suggest you get to regular Dark Kingdom space, rather than here in the Rift, before taking a nap. Barbary will escort you to back to the Hall of Shadows. Don't dawdle in there or you won't come out. They are less forgiving than I."

Somehow, Kadyrelite managed to not collapse once the General let go. Stumbling a little, she nevertheless managed a shaky salute. Acid green eyes wide and dazed, she blinked as the General spoke, trying to process the words so they made sense inside her fevered brain.

Time to go, little Lieutenant. Tell the nice General 'thank you' and do as she says.

Obeying, Kadyrelite saluted again, murmuring, "Yes ma'am. Thank you, ma'am. I won't, ma'am."

Responding without thinking to Strytha's internal prompting, she tottered towards the escort that had been mentioned, following them with a single-minded air. She didn't want to be stuck with anyone or anything less forgiving than Schorl. The very thought made her want to curl up and cry.

Soon enough, Kadyrelite was out of the Rift and able to relax a little bit.

You can relax once you're home and in bed. Pity you can't teleport, but you have strength enough to wind your way home. Just focus on one foot in front of the other for now.

Much as she wanted to resent those orders, they made sense. And Kadyrelite desperately wanted to power down and sleep for a week. Maybe when she woke up, this would all end up being nothing more than a terrible dream.

Strytha's internal snort of amused disgust answered that wistful thought. Rather than risk a sting, Kadyrelite sighed and started her search for an officer willing to teleport her back to the city.
