Kalendol felt disgusting. She was covered in sweat from running all over doing exactly what every single rider had expected of her. Including crawling up and down the wing rider's dragons, oiling hides. It was a tiring day and she still had more work to do. Being a weyrling was so difficult. The teenager, couldn't quite place it but something felt off to her. As she approached the weyrling barracks she stopped, frowning, the familiar feel of her dragonet's mind touching hers was non-existent.
Kalendol silently called, 'Kynigoth, you ready to get your hide rubbed?' She asked the little green with a frown as she looked around with a frown. 'Kyni?' She asked once more. There was no response and the girl rushed towards her room, looking around. Her room mate was already there, napping with her blue curled up on the floor next to her bunk. He lifted his head and gave her an intrigued look when she entered, but neither said anything. Turning on her heel, Kalendol rushed from the room, racing down the hall. "Kynigoth?" She asked with a note of concern in her voice.

In some ways she felt she had it slightly easier than some of her clutchmates. Riding a gold had certain privileges, but also more expectations. Vosin had been studying old records to try understanding some of the responsibilities that would eventually come to rest on her shoulders. There was a large amount that went on in a weyr, or wherhold, that she'd taken for granted. Like tithes. She'd known when they came in they would have a really nice hearty dinner that night or the next. Vosin had never realized that someone needed to record down everything that was delivered, then make sure drudges put it away.
By the time she was done, Vos had a bonafied headache and felt as though her eyes refused to uncross. She debated stopping by the healers and some felis juice to help. Instead some time with her dragon sounded much better. The red headed teen pushed back from the table and strolled out headed for the weyrling barracks. I'm on my way Killa. Are you awake? Oh I am awake Vosin, though I'm not in the barracks. It was boring listening to your rattle on about tithes and wheat. The young dragon sounded prim and proper that boredism was not for her. Instead she'd found something to suitably entertain herself besides sleeping and eating. She watched the green dragon she was with as she flicked her tail around her hindsquarters

Kalendol blinked her eyes as she raced down the corridors, nearly slamming into another red-head who she'd met before. " Oh, shards. I'm sorry. Hey, Vosin. Have you seen Kynigoth?" She asked the other weyrling. Then remembered exactly who Vosin had become. She was a gold rider. Well, almost. And that induced a simple kind of respect that began to bloom. " I cannot find her anywhere." She stated rather lamely. Great now I look like the worst rider ever. How can you lose a six month old dragonet? For goodness sakes.Meanwhile, on another part of Benden, two dragonets were hunting. At least practicing their hunting. Up until one curious green found herself with her head stuck in a hole. <I swear, this hole looked bigger from the outside!> The invasive green chortled mentally to her companion, a gold dragonet who was practically twice her size. <Don't you think this hole looked bigger, Killakeeth?> She asked as her hind quarters waggled and her front claws tried desperately to tear the earth in a desperate attempt to get her head unstuck. <I could'a sworn my head fit in here last sevenday.> A huff followed by a growl of discomfort followed as the dragonet tried once more. Kynigoth requires your assistance, Kalendol! Please come! NOW! The dragonet followed her plea to her rider with a desperate bugle. As Kalendol looked at Vosin she got an uncomfortable feeling of having her head stuck in a tiny place. Then a voice, very faint and soft, echoed within her mind in the same tones as her dragonet. " Er... nevermind. I think she's stuck." Where are you? Kalendol frowned as she looked around briefly. Obviously stuck, mine. Find me! Kynigoth retorted a little snappier then usual. Flicking her tail, which narrowly missed the gold's chest she huffed. <Catching these quick little things is harder than they appear, eh Killakeeth?> She snickered.

She pulled back as she nearly collided with another weyrling. One she recognized. "We gotta watch those corners eh Kalendol?" Vos frowned as she was asked about the girl's dragon. A green if she recalled. Shards remembering who rode what other than her twin was hard! She'd have to practice memorizing who was who. It was so much easier when she was a candidate.
"Kynigoth? No I haven't. Just left the library. What's going on?" Vos shook her head. "Killa isn't in her weyr either, but I'm not sure where she is. Let's go look for them." The teen had to raise an eyebrow hearing the other dragon might be stuck. Killa are you with Kynigoth? And if so where are you? It would be easier if the pair was together, then she'd help Kalendol search for her stuck dragon. It had been much more entertaining watching her fellow dragon stick her nose into every hole she could find. Killakeeth had even suggested a few. Her eyes whirled blue as she laughed silently at the futile efforts of the young green to free herself. Oh it certainly did. She hadn't been certain the smaller green could have gotten her head into the hole, but since she had this had turned out quite amusing. Do keep trying Kynigoth. I'm sure your almost there. Killa wasn't sure if the green could free herself or not.
Aye we are together, she replied slightly distracted to her rider. Outside I believe. By a wall. Maybe not the most helpful directions. Killa snapped her jaw warningly as the tail almost smacked her. I told you to chase it toward me instead of that other way. Nevermind she'd just been sitting there watching the green running around. She tilted her head at her fellow rider. "Killa's with her I think. Let's go outside. Sounds like they might be near a wall." Vos turned to head toward the nearest exit. Somehow as her dragon got bigger, she was harder and harder to keep track of. "We can look for them together." She was glad she didn't have anywhere else to be right now. Of course she could have a message relayed via dragon if it had been urgent.

Kalendol nodded and followed the other weyrling towards the outside of the weyr, it was so difficult keeping track of her dragon. She had been finding it more difficult as Kynigoth's nature took hold and the curious creature sought out more elusive places to nap. But, she never expected her to make friends, especially not with a gold that Kalendol had been told was rather prim and proper. " That sounds like a good idea. I hope Kyni hasn't gotten into too much trouble. She can be a handful." Kalendol chuckled with a shake of her head, glancing at the other weyrling. " How does being a weyrling feel to you?" She asked with a small grin, cocking her head slightly to the side. Kynigoth pulled and pulled, but her head was deeply rooted in the ground. <It's a good thing I'm green. If I stand on my front paws I'd certainly look like a tree! Or a bush.> She joked, trying to make light of a sour situation. <Of course you said to chase it towards you, but I was trying to impress you with my abilities. How was I to know it'd take to the ground?> Kynigoth huffed a little and dug her claws once more into the earth. She wished to be free of this blasted hole!

Vos gave a snicker. "Seriously? I think baby dragons are just pure trouble from the moment they hatch until they become adults and are given something to do." True, some of the dragonets seemed to be less trouble than others, but they all seemed to cause their riders some form of anxiety at some point. It was nice though, she reflected, to have babies running around the wherhold again. Things had seemed strange, or like something was off without young dragons around.
"It feels great. It's everything I've ever wanted and thought it would be, yet it's nothing like I expected it. Does that make sense?" She'd spoken directly with a couple of adult dragons before the hatching and hearing their voices had been interesting. Somehow though, they were nothing like Killakeeth. There was a much deeper connection there when Killa spoke to her than when the others had. It was a feeling she'd waited for her whole life and it wasn't something she ever wanted to give up.
The teen stepped free of the tunnels and shaded her green eyes as she scanned the rock faces. There wasn't that many half grown golds around that Killa should be easy to spot. If they found her, then they should find Kalendol's lost and stuck Kynigoth with her. The wherbowl was a vast place and she didn't see the two young dragons nearby. "I bet they're around the back side of the lake," she said to her companion. Killa rumbled deep in her chest as she continued to watch the lodged green. Several adults started to come to investigate, but she waved them off, saying everything was covered and help was on the way. She tilted her head to look at the rump of the green. Mmmmm I believe you'd look more like an upside down dragon. Trees are only green in their tops unless they are small. Maybe give it a try Kynigoth and I will tell you if you look suitably like a tree. The gold laughed again. Why would a dragon want to be a tree anyhow?
The young female would have given her fellow dragonet an eye roll at the question if she could have seen it. However, Kynigoth couldn't see she just replied instead. Have you ever watched the herdbeasts pens when one of the adults come to feed? Food was an important matter to her. It made sense to her to keep track of who fed when, and what, and how often. She even tried to bully some of the blues and greens into not taking a beast she wanted for herself even though she couldn't fly yet. As she got bigger, that would move up the dragon scales. Have you ever seen how the herdbeasts flee? They run for cover. Granted the tiny critter Kynigoth had been chasing wasn't a herdbeast, it was logical that a tiny creature faced with a young dragon would react the same way.

Kynigoth listened and then slowly rooted her claws in the freshly torn earth, trying to push her hind quarters up. It was truly a site to be seen, her hind quarters flopping much like a cat trying to get into a box. It was comical and the little green soon gave up her explorations and fell back onto her rump, <I hope mine gets here soon.>
<Of course I have, but I didn't want to try for them just yet, after all, I am but a small green!> Kynigoth chortled to her companion as she huffed. Was it just her or was this tunnel getting somewhat smaller?Kalendol chuckled at her comrade's response and shook her head slowly, " Aye, baby dragons seem to cause trouble wherever they go unless someone watches them. Kynigoth has been starting to do her own thing and doesn't like to come with me on my chores anymore. Suppose she just wants to feel a sense of freedom. Which is fine, but I wish she'd stay in the weyr." She sighed as they rounded the bowl and headed towards the backside where the lake and dragons preferred to flock during the day time hours. A flash of gold and green in close quarters caught her attention and briefly she had to stop to take in the scene, gently nudging Vosin's ribs. " Well, well, she is stuck." The girl chuckled with a shake of her head, hazel eyes brimming with small tears. She'd thought she lost her best friend.
