I felt the need to post this as its own thread as I've found a number of people that didn't know they could play online without an ID search. That's right, there's a lot of people that don't know this but you could say "No" to the search ID function. Furthermore, not all rooms are locked. I hear that the full game allows you to see which rooms are, but for some reason the demo doesn't. You'll have to check each room to see which ones you can freely join or create your own. Once a single person joins in, the rest fill up the room rather quickly.
So as you can see, there's really nothing stopping you from experiencing the online aspect of the game.
