It was finally that time. The day Draven would admit his feelings; it had been a silent agreement with himself, something he had confessed to no one and yet hinted to many. He wanted Briar to know how he really felt. He wanted her to know why he felt he had to protect her, why he had left during the storm. He wanted her to know why he'd always come back. He'd chosen the day when the weather man had promised clear skies, and a slightly warmer afternoon than they'd been experiencing lately.
So he'd arranged for Rhiyn to disappear--he suspected the man was out ice fishing on another part of the lake--and he'd taken Claret with him, which Draven was grateful for. He'd purchased a rose for Briar from the local flowershop in town; and he hoped to impress her.
It was going to be hard, impressing someone he'd known the majority of his life. He knew that. It was going to be difficult to surprise her. And so, right before sunset, he called for her to come outside. He hadn't set anything up; no table, no candles, no violinist. "Hey, Briar," he said, holding the rose out. "Er...." Scratch that. It wasn't going to be hard. It was impossible.

Briar had been glad when Draven returned from his little adventure and had listened with a mixture of horror and fascination at what all he'd seen and gone through. It explained a lot, but it was not something she herself would have handled well if she'd gone instead.
Nope, she was very much content to have a quiet life. After the hell she went through from their original trainers, the car accident she'd been in that caused her to be on the loose in the wild for a time. No she very much didn't like loud things, or danger, or fear...or a great number of other things. She was glad she didn't often see people around the lake, because even though she herself was now the size and general age of a sixteen or seventeen year old, kids the age of their old trainers scared the crap out of her and caused her to hide in the cabin.
That wasn't an issue right now though, she had the cabin door and windows open to let in a gentle breeze, it'd been a mild day and so she thought the place could stand to be freshened up with three people (ish) and a pokemon living in it.
So she heard Draven calling her from outside with ease, and stopped what she'd been doing and stepped outside and headed to where she could see him down near the water.
There was a smile on her face as she took the rose from him. "What a pretty flower Draven, thank you."

Even if she had been cleaning, Draven thought she was still beautiful. That opinion hadn't changed, since they had been pokemon. It was the only thing he could be grateful to his former trainer for; she'd taught him how to protect Briar.
He smiled when she came out of the house. "It's almost as pretty as you are," he said. Cheesy? Yeah. He'd have to work on that; maybe R'yn had some ideas. He probably had better lines than what a tween had given the dragonite, anyway. "Hey," he said, "Want to walk around the lake? We can watch the sunset, it's beautiful today." He wasn't one for watching it, normally, preferring to find things to do. But with Briar, he felt he could share this quiet, beautiful moment with her.
"So, er. Maybe we could go out to lunch tomorrow? I think it's called a date?"

Briar couldn't help but blush at his words, he always said the sweetest things though sometimes she thought he must be poking fun at her. But he said it all so often, maybe he was being completely honest? It was hard for her to decide one way or another. "I think a walk would be really nice, you're right it's beautiful out today." it'd been nice and clear, and ever since the Kami Trio had been calmed it felt as if everything was brighter, more beautiful, flourishing more. Maybe it was just her imagination born of relief to have Draven back safe and sound. "A date?" there was surprise in her voice as she thought it over a smile given. "I suppose we can yes. Though I don't know what's done on a date do you?"

The dragonite boy appeared surprised when Briar agreed to the date. He broke into a broad smile.
Draven had to admit, at least to himself, that he wasn't sure what a date entailed. He hesitated for a long moment, looking around. "Well," he began, awkwardly, suddenly very interested in his hands. He twiddled his thumbs, seeming unable to put his thoughts into words. "Rhiyn told me a date is going somewhere with someone you care a lot about," he said. Was a walk enough? Did they have to go somewhere public? Maybe a picnic would work? Out to lunch included picnics, didn't it?
He offered her his hand. He was happy just to have time with her. "I love how the sun lands on the water," he said, looking out over the lake. "When it's filtering through the trees. It's like the sun's smiling."

"Oh, well then we must go on dates an awful lot then since we go on walks together all the time." that was one way to look at the situation, really. The whole date concept was an odd one to her. "It's pretty coming through the trees. It's nice out here. Though, the cabin is getting small since we changed." a wry smile given. She did like it here, with Rhyin and Claret and all, but really the place wasn't built to house three teens and a pokemon. "We'll have to find somewhere else to live soon. Hopefully it's just as nice there as it is here."

"I think we do," Draven said, with a smile. He hadn't thought about it that way before. He'd been stressing to make today perfect, and he was starting to realize. that he hadn't needed to worry. "It is," he agreed. The view was scenic: he wished he'd brought a camera.
"I've thought about that," he said. "I think soon, we'll have to move. Together." It was important to him, for them to be together. "Our place will be just as nice! And Rhiyn will visit. Rhiyn and Claret will. We can have a party when we get a place." And it would be just as nice, because Briar would be there with him. "Maybe we'll be able to get a place by the water."

"That is what it sounded like to me too." she gave Draven a warm smile as she said that, happy to look out over the sun setting over the lake. It was a really nice view, she liked it a lot. "I think so too. I like it here with Rhiyn and Claret, but it's just too small for us all, especially since we grew...and I think it'll be easier on Rhiyn if we moved out...because he's the same age as we are and it seems like a lot for him to deal with." she worried about the guy trying to do too much, shouldering too much responsibility! "Only problem is I know places take money and stuff...we'll have to figure out a way to pay for it first. I think that's the first thing we need to worry about." jobs...who would have thought?

Briar was right: finding a way to earn money was their first step. "We'll have to find somewhere small," he said. It occured to him that places like this, overlooking the lake, probably cost more than places that didn't. "Maybe we can find jobs before we leave, save up a bit and make plans." He was sure it wasn't something they could do on a whim. "He'll miss us," Draven said. She was right, it would be less responsibility on him. "But we'll visit!"
He put an arm around her shoulders, looking towards the lake. "We'll find something," he assured her. Something wonderful.

"And probably somewhere not by the lake...it can't be cheap to live here." she gave him a soft smile and leaned against him with a sigh. "Sometimes...I think it was easier being a pokemon and not changing you know?" she was quiet, and thoughtful. "We should try finding jobs soon. Though I don't know what either of us can do...but I'm sure we'll figure something out." or so she was hoping. Her arms shifted and wrapped around his waist hugging him close and watching the sun go down behind the water. She would miss the view, but still, it would be so much easier on Rhiyn.
