A knock came at the door. "Coming." Walpurgis called as he sat up. Another knock. He sighed. "I said I was coming." Swinging open the door, Walpurgis was caught off guard by the wide grin on Karina's face. Well, not so much the grin, as much as seeing Karina at all. He still wasn't used to having her back at the base.
"Yer slow, Walpurgis. Ya shouldah been hoppin' up to meet me, yeah? What, ya gettin' tired ah me already? Are ya seein' someone else? That it?"
Walpurgis scratched the back of his head at the barrage of questions. "What's wrong, Karina?" He said, ignoring them.
Karina turned her head to the side, disappointment plain on her face. "Tch." With an exaggerated sigh that told Walpurgis she wasn't actually mad, she turned back to face him. She shrugged with her hands in the air. "Ah swear, ah try ta do somethin' nice fer ya, and ya just blow off my jabs. Yer no fun, Walpurgis."
A small smile crept across Walpurgis' lips. "I'm sorry you feel that way. Want to come inside and see if I can change your mind?"
Karina gaped at him before bending over laughing. "Man! Ah swear, ah didn't expect that from you of all people!" She stopped laughing after a minute. "Anyways, ya got a new mission. It's ah big one, straight from tha top."
Walpurgis blinked, confused. "And they're having you tell me, because...?"
Karina grinned. "Ah offered."
"Why...?"
"Well, ah kindah sortah... passedthamissionofftaya." She said, looking to the side guiltily.
Walpurgis pinched the bridge of his nose. "And you did this because...?"
Karina frowned. "s**t, Walpurgis, why can't ya just accept things when ah do them. Ah don't always have an ulterior motive! Ah mean, ah do this time, but it doesn't mean ya can't trust me a little!" She sighed. "It's another clone. They offered it ta me, as a reward fer my infiltration. But ah said, 'piss on that', and told 'em ya deserved it more. And ya do! Yer an elite now, but ya've hardly gotten any missions respectin' it. So ya get the clone. She paused before adding, "'Sides, they creep me out."
Walpurgis shook his head before smiling softly at her. "Alright. Thanks, Karina.
The woman brightened visibly. "Yeah, no problem, Walpurgis. It's this way." She turned to lead him to the labs, but stopped and turned back to him. "Oh, an ah'm takin' a rain check on that 'fun'." She winked at him before all but skipping down the hall.

Warm.
That was the only sensation that the mewtwo had known. Like a chick within its egg, she was blind, deaf, and unaware of the world outside the tube. She drifted in the fetal position, eyes unopened and ears deafened by amniotic fluid. However, as of late, she'd noticed a new sensation. Her body gently bumped against the smooth glass sides of her world more and more often. Though her dreams had long hinted at a larger world, the reality that she knew was gradually shrinking. Would it continue to shrink forever? What would happen when she no longer fit?
"You may want to stand back for this part," a scientist warned Walpurgis and Karina as they stepped into the lab. "They can be rather... volatile when they first awaken." He grinned as if he were anticipating such a reaction from the black mewtwo. "Oh, but don't worry; we've taken precautions," he added, hefting a master ball in one hand.
"All right; do it!" the scientist commanded.
Something was changing. There was turbulence in her world. Gradually, the liquid was being drained from her cylindrical planet. The warmth was gone; she was accosted by a coldness that struck her to the core. She shivered uncontrollably, and as she did so, the tubes that connected to her body snapped off and released her. She sank to the floor, astounded by her own weight. The glass of her tube lifted, and she could suddenly hear everything around her, painfully loud. The water and thick glass had muted everything to the barest murmur that occasionally disturbed her slumber, but nothing had prepared her for her next sensation.
When she opened her eyes, the stark industrial lights pierced them all the way to the back of her skull. She slammed her lids shut in an attempt to shield them, but the damage had been done; a silent, telepathic scream ripped through the minds of all present.
The scientist holding the master ball tensed up a bit; things weren't going as well as they'd hoped. He tightened his grip on the capsule, prepared to use it at the first sign of violence from the mewtwo.
Pain. She'd never felt it before. Her head was spinning. The concerned murmurs of the Rockets surrounding her was a violent rockslide. She slowly opened her eyelids a slit, squinting against the harshness of the outside world. She reached telepathically, and the sensory information threatened to overwhelm her once more.
She trembled on all fours for several minutes, gradually adjusting to her new world. Eventually, she was able to open her eyes all the way, and her head no longer pounded. She still felt very heavy, but she slowly got to her feet and gazed around at the other life forms. Most of them, she recognized from her unconscious probings. A few were foreign.
she asked the room at large. She instinctively knew that those two questions were very important, but she could not for the life of her understand why.

A shiver ran up Karina's spine as the mewtwo's voice invaded her mind. She hated that feeling. At her side, however, Walpurgis merely walked forward despite the scientists request that he not, his eyes on the clone's. Stopping just a bit before her, he gave the mewtwo a small smile. "Hello." He looked down for a moment, thinking over his words, before looking back up at her. "You're the newest member of Team Rocket."
Karina shook her head slightly, her eyes focused on Walpurgis' back. This was going to end badly. He had to establish dominance, not treat the clone like an equal. Probably all the scientists were thinking the same, but they dared not speak for fear of inciting the mewtwo. Karina sighed silently to herself. It was stupid, but that was one of the things she loved about him. Nevertheless, her hand crept to her gun, just in case.
"As for who you are..." Walpurgis drifted off and turned to face the scientist holding the master ball. "What's her serial number?"
"This one is M2-SV1." He answered, his hand still clamped around the ball.
Turning back to the mewtwo, Walpurgis smiled. "Then you're 'Ems', if that's alright - I'd rather not call you by a list of letters and numbers."

the mewtwo repeated. She inclined her head slightly in an almost imperceptible nod. She liked the name. It was simple and warm, much like the egg she could no longer return to.
She sensed that the human standing before her would be important, somehow. Perhaps she had dreamed about him before, but already her memories of the tube were fading. Out of curiosity, she pushed herself a little deeper into the man's mind and located that he, too, had a name. she said, testing it out.
She could almost grasp the reason for her existence, but it slipped away even as she reached for it. She didn't have any answers, but Walpurgis had already answered two of her questions; perhaps he knew everything about the larger world. So she queried,

Karina glared at Ems as she spoke Walpurgis' name. No one had told her his name, so she had to have gone digging around in his mind. Her grip tightened on her gun, but she didn't draw it just yet.
In front of her, however, Walpurgis merely continued to smile at the mewtwo, unaware of his partner's anger. "Let's see... 'To serve the glorious Team Rocket for your whole life', I guess would be the answer I'm supposed to give?" He turned a jovial glance towards Karina, his eyes lingering on the hand holding her gun. Turning back, he shook his head. "Honestly, Ems, I can't really tell you. It's just something we all have to find out for ourselves. In the mean time, you're welcome to tag along with me."

When Walpurgis shifted his attention to Karina, it piqued the legendary pokemon's own curiosity. She tested the waters of the woman's mind and recoiled. There was an emotion that she didn't understand at the forefront of Karina's mind. It felt hot... and powerful. Tentatively, Ems allowed herself to feel the second-hand effects of Karina's anger. The heat was almost comforting to her still-damp body; it was almost like the home that she could not return to.
Anger was different from her fear and confusion. It gave her confidence. Anger was power; she could feel that boiling strength coursing through her. Karina's anger made her want to demonstrate it somehow; she had to break something. She noticed the metal object that Karina was holding, but she couldn't take that; that woman was too powerful.
Ems slid her eyes past Karina and onto the scientist who was still holding the master ball. She did not sense any anger in him; she sensed excitement, and nervousness. He was powerless. She slowly lifted one arm pointing in his direction and spread her bulbous fingers wide. Her eyes flashed bright purple, and the master ball was torn from the scientist's grip by an invisible force.
"No!" he cried in alarm. "Stop her!"
Ems tilted her head to one side, pausing. The master ball continued to float in midair. The mewtwo returned her attention to Walpurgis. she informed him. She could still feel Karina's anger burning in her mind, and dared Walpurgis to tell her that her will was wrong.

Karina quickly drew the gun from it's holster and leveled it at the mewtwo, but Walpurgis sidestepped in between the two. Karina glared at Walpurgis' back. "Walpurgis, get outta tha way! It's too dangerous. It took the master ball, we gotta deal with it now! Get outta the way, damn it!"
Walpurgis took a deep breath, and when he spoke, it was as if he was the embodiment of calm. "Relax, Karina. Everything will be fine."
Karina shook her head forcefully. "No, it's not! That damn thing is in yer head, ********' with ya - how can ah even know it's ya talkin' and not that thing!?"
Walpurgis turned to face his partner with a reassuring smile. "You'll just have to trust me. If you can't, then you can shoot me - I'd be a liability, right? You could shoot me, then, and no one would blame you."
Tears filled Karina's eyes as she glared at the man with a mix of anger and trepidation. "s**t!" She lowered the gun forcefully, and it was a wonder to Walpurgis that she didn't accidentally shoot doing so.
"Thanks, Karina." The woman turned her head away, unwilling to face him. Turning his attention back to the mewtwo, Walpurgis spoke softly. "You could destroy it with ease. I don't doubt that. But you need to understand that just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Is destroying the ball something you have to do?"

Ems's actions caused such an outburst of emotion in Karina that the mewtwo fled from her mind completely in self-defense. She'd never experienced anything so tumultuous. Disconnected once more, she could not comprehend the meaning behind Karina's shouting, nor did she understand the importance of the strange device that she held.
She had to respect Walpurgis, who could rein in the woman's power so easily. She returned her full attention to him and considered his question seriously. Finally, she had to replied,
She moved the master ball within Walpurgis's reach so that he could take it freely if he so desired. However, she continued to ask,
"Capture her, quickly!" the scientist hissed urgently to Walpurgis. "We can't know when sensory overload will cause her to snap again!"

Walpurgis continued to ignore the scientist's urgings. He had a feeling the mewtwo was simply like Gangrel, and just needed an understanding person to get to know them. Like he did.
He merely continued to smile. "Well, it's kind of hard to explain. 'Need' is basically something you require, like food, or water. 'Want' is something you desire, like to destroy that ball. Generally, you should do things you need to do, but you should also do things you want to do, assuming they don't hurt anything. If you want to destroy the ball, I probably can't stop you, but I don't think you need to."
Behind him, Karina was trembling. She wanted to leave, be anywhere but here, but her legs wouldn't move. She was stuck, reliving that moment from ten years ago. Memories were troublesome things. She had thought on more than one occasion to ask for a memory wipe, but she knew it was selfish of her - Tiffany deserved better than to just fade away, forgotten by the one who killed her. But they were coming back to haunt her, and she hated it. More than that, she hated herself for being so weak. Walpurgis never complained about his family in Lilycove, not after that time, so why couldn't she move on, too?

The black mewtwo tilted her head to the side. she agreed. she added, pointing a bulbous finger in Karina's direction, oblivious to the woman's fear.
"Yes, yes, good, we want to test your abilities too!" the scientist interrupted. "But in order to keep you and everyone else safe, Walpurgis here is going to use the master ball on you. It's a containment unit. Perfectly safe, you'll be very comfortable inside!" The scientist stared at Walpurgis, silently begging him to do as he asked. "It's the only way we can control her," he whispered desperately.
Ems wrinkled her diminutive nose. she stated, glancing sidelong at the scientist as if he were insane. If she had grown too large for her tube, she certainly could not live inside of the ball. She was getting impatient; she drifted away from Walpurgis and the other humans in order to study the strange wires and computers that surrounded them. The desire to test the extent of her psychic abilities was growing stronger.

Karina shirked back almost imperceptibly at the mewtwo's gesture. It was a harmless gesture, and she knew it, but her mind raced with trepidatious thoughts. Remembering the dead look in Tiffany's eyes, right before she shot her. Killed her. The gun shook in her trembling hands.
Walpurgis sighed at the scientist's continued urges about 'control'. He knew they had a point, and that the mewtwo was perhaps too dangerous to be reasoned with - but he had to try. If this was going to to be his responsibility, he would do it his way.
"We can test your power on something else, later, Ems. For now, why don't we put everyone's minds at ease? The master ball will be big enough for you; watch." Retrieving a pokeball from his belt, he sent out Satori, and the liepard stretched lazily on the ground before glancing up at the mewtwo. "You see? I'm not sure how it works, but pokemon like you can fit into these balls with no issues." He smiled softly. "I'll let you out right after you go in, if you prefer; I promise." He closed his eyes and exhaled. "But, for now, let's have everyone just calm down." The last part was spoken to the entire room, rather than just the mewtwo.

Ems's eyes popped comically as the liepard suddenly appeared out of seemingly nowhere. She stared silently at the pokemon, feeling around Satori's consciousness out of curiosity. The mewtwo floated to the ground and finally landed lightly on her feet. She squatted so that she could be at eye level with the quadruped. others? Like me?> she asked in wonder.
She slowly stretched a hand toward Satori, offering him a chance to get a good whiff of her scent. she wondered, though who she was asking, or whether it was even a rhetorical question, was unclear.
She turned her head toward Walpurgis. she declared.
The scientist gave a visible sigh of relief. "Yes, excellent," he babbled. "Walpurgis here will be in charge of your training, and he will inform you of your duties." He wiped his sweaty brow on the sleeve of his lab coat.

Walpurgis nodded. "There are millions of pokemon in the world." As he spoke, the liepard's ears twitched at the psychic intrusion, but did nothing otherwise besides loose a large yawn. For now, she was content to simply laze around.
Grabbing the master ball out of the air, Walpurgis smiled. "I can't promise that I'll have all the answers you're looking for, but I'll do my best to help." He extended the ball button-first to the mewtwo. "All you have to do is press this button, and it'll let you in."
Behind him, Karina stared hard at the mewtwo. She had calmed down considerably in the past few seconds, now that Walpurgis seemed to have everything under control, but she kept her hand clamped on her gun, ready to raise and fire at the slightest hint of danger.

Ems reached hesitantly for the pokeball. One bulbous finger paused millimeters from the pokeball's center button. The mewtwo had never felt anything before; at least, not physically. Rather than press the button right away, she ran her fingers over the master ball's smooth surface, her touch as light as the brush of a feather. Once she was satisfied that it would not harm her, she placed her finger on the button, and pressed.
After she was absorbed in the burst of red light, the masterball began to wobble as Ems panicked. The feeling of being converted to pure energy was foreign to her; however, the pokeball did feel like her old capsule, and she quickly calmed again, and the wobbling quickly ceased. The mewtwo was caught.

The scientists seemed to breath a collective sigh of relief. As promised, Walpurgis sent the mewtwo out moments later. "See? I told you you would fit." He said with a smile.
Behind him, Karina holstered her gun, seeing Walpurgis had everything under control. She exhaled a breath she hadn't realized she was holding.
