X X XThe wind was cold up where Xiang lay, a rocky cliff at the edge of some rolling hills, a mountain rose up behind him. He faced a valley, but his gaze didn't seek what was below him, head held up, face tilted towards the sun. It was never bright enough in the winter, never warm enough, even napping in the setting sun's rays wouldn't stave off the coming chill of evening.
Xi stood, stretched out each leg and then his brilliant wings before taking flight. Evening would come on fast now and he needed to find shelter in the valley. He swooped and glided until making land at the base of a sparse wood, tucking his large wings close over his body. Lots of tall bare trees here, some of the sort that kept their short green needles all year, Xiang padded through the damp leaf litter, golden eyes searching for shelter.
A hollow trunk, a fallen branch, ah, there! An old tree had fallen against a younger one which bent at a sharp angle, only time would tell if it could grow beyond the strain, it would take years for the dead tree to rot away completely but the younger seemed sturdy and the space beneath large enough to shelter this lone ulaya from the coming night, while still giving him a view of the stars.

He was far from where he had used to call home. The Centre Isle had been the high-life for some type. Bunch of ulaya to flirt and chill with. It would have been the perfect place, but the emptiness was eating him. This wasn't how it used to be. For a long time he was surrounded by good friends- and kind family. Til he was found out. The forest area used to be his home, venturing to the Centre gave an empty feeling. Like filling a glass that had a hole at the bottom. Starving him for something more. No matter how much he laughed, no matter how much he went out and no matter how much attention he got. He was still just that, starving.
The were just eating poisonous plant matter and fermented fruit, all day. They danced and danced- but how he found himself here. Would be a mystery to even him. Bare trees, the calming breeze. To others, it'd be a beautiful night. To him. The mind alternating consumption made the trees seem like ulaya. A bunch of them. Starring. The ground seemed to look like water to him. Going up, and down...
"And he says he loves me~ and she says I need more time. They say~ Let's have fun! I'm all about this life~ I'll be there til the very end~ Don't you cry! Listen~ Oh listen~ I'm not like the rest! Where do we stand~ In each others arms.. In each other's arms.." He sang as he strolled as if walking on stage, to him- he was singing karaoke with his friends when in reality he was alone.
Without paying attention he walked in to some branches and that's when the high life had come crashing down. "GET OFF OF ME!" Flailing his arms and batting them away viciously. "I DON"T WANT YOU GET OFF!" He yelled out. Unbeknownst that it was merely tree branches. To him, it was an ulaya trying to force themselves on him!

X X XNight came on and on, the sky darkened by shades and the stars came out. Xiang adored the starry sky, studying it at every chance he got since his earliest days. Through the trees he couldn't see everything, but even a little sliver held so much and here he lay for hours, eyes up, chin resting on his paws. Many an evening would find him falling asleep this way, eyelids drooping until they didn't open until the following morning.
When he was very near sleep a singing voice slipped through the trees. Xiang's ears twitched, he didn't recognize it and as he usually kept to himself, chose to ignore it and let the stranger pass without greeting. Instead of trailing off, the voice grew louder and Xiang lift his head, ears turning this way and that, and spotted the dark pelt of the prism marked ulaya, tilted his head and the singing ended and turned to shouting.
She, or perhaps he, at this distance it wasn't obvious which, had just stumbled into some fallen branches and was now shouting for them to get off. Xiang's ears twitched as he stared across the distance slight confusion giving way to a smirk on his lips. He shook his head and pushed himself up onto his feet, calling out as he pad over.
"Hold just a moment, friend. The branches don't want you either one could assume, as they were minding their own business when you stumbled into them. Now then, let me lend a paw..." He waited a few steps back for the youth to stop thrashing.

First impressions were always the stellar part of meeting new ulayas. This wasn't the Tone he'd want others to see but apparently he'd been in so deep that he couldn't decifier reality in to fantasy. Tossing and flailing until he heard another's voice. He yelled out. "SAVE ME!!!" But then he heard the words that'd come after. Branches?! Didn't the other see it was a zillion tails and hands grabbing at him!?
Frantic- he looked to either side. Then finally the orbs had found refuge in what seemed to look like an angel~ no~ a GOD~. When the paw finally extended to him... The very GLOW of the other was memorizing... "Wha..." His rainbow eyes dilated... "Are you here to take me away? Am I battling life and death?" Xiang's glow- to him was intensified by the altered mind he'd subjected himself to. His mouth moved slow, when he spoke even when he was yelling. His fur felt like it was felting and his maw tingling.
He looked away from the fiercely glowing creature. "Tell me is it worth saving me~" Tears were starting to swell up in his eyes, daring to come down his cheek fur. Pawing at the branches as they tangled in to his legs and upper body. Then finally after his struggle he looked at the male, with almost pleading eyes before grabbing at the paw finally with both paws. He felt like his paws were slipping off, so he grabbed on to the other tightly. "I don't want to diiieee!" Tear falling from his eye finally.
"I'm scared. I'll reach~ for you~" As he looked back at the paws- and tails trying to strangle him in his mind. Battling them until finally.. the touch of this 'angel' made him close his eyes tight. Once he opened them again, the paws and tails were starting to disappear and show their true colors... Mere branches.
His breath, had become heavy as if trying to compose himself. Sweat under his fur as his body still felt on fire!
Looking at the 'angel' in utter fear.

X X X If not for the fear and desperation in the youth's voice and eyes, Xiang would have been amused. Instead he was shaken. To his core, to his soul. His voice shook only the slightest when he spoke, doing his best to remain calm and steady.
"Shh, shhh. You're alright now. I've got you, I won't hurt you."
He did his best to be reassuring in what he said, but saying anything that would calm him. "What's your name, xiaohong?" Slipping into just a touch of near forgotten language for want of a diminutive to call him, little rainbow seemed fitting enough. "I'm Xiang," he murmured, as if reminding himself, talking for the comfort of it as he led the other ulaya away from the grasping tangle of branches and back towards the fallen tree shelter.
"You're not dying, but you are definitely worth saving. Breathe slow and deep for me now. You're safe."
As they moved away together, Xiang spread a wing over Tone's back to stave off the chill of the evening, even if his body already seemed overly warm.

It was all real to him. It felt and looked real, and this angel had brought him out of the darkness that was trying to swallow him whole. But- he saved him. The sound of fear leaving him as he grabbed and grabbed at the creature almost in desperation. Not wanting to see paws and tails grabbing at him to dance in the shadows..
The look Tone had given, was that could be described as pathetic in the way fear had nearly disabled him. "Ta-To-nnmm...." His tongue placing tricks on him. Numbing but he pushed through it. "Tone. My name is Tone." Managing to walk, he felt his paws heavy but his mind calm and in the clouds. As if he was flying. The heat within his own body had beckoned to cripple him. With a reassuring wing over, and words of encouragement. Tone felt easily that he could die like this. Feeling safe.
'Worth saving.' Thoughs words could only have been from a dream, and nightmare was to wake from them. "I think.. I won't mind death now." Giving a male a look, of sort of a sad longing happiness for just the fact that he felt it. "Safe." He leaned himself against the male. Hoping he wouldn't fall in to the sky that his mind was playing with him. Guiding, he breathed in- and out til his breath ceased to shiver.
"Would you keep me safe...look at me resigning already... I couldn't die around them..so many of them. I'm poison. With you I can.. It's simple and clean the way you make me feel.. " A soft smile, itched at his maw.. and with the heaviness of his paws- he fell forward. Tripping over himself as the ground below him felt like he was enduring waves in the ocean. He closed his eyes. Wishing this altered state away now. Tighting his body and tensing so he could endure it and wait for it to subside. "I don't want to let go..I don't want to let go.." As if battling himself to stay awake or submit to darkness here and now.
"I feel paralyzed.."

X Xiang thought to physically lift the distraught ulaya and carry him, but let the idea slip away. He already seemed disconnected from what was actually happening, to disconnect him from the solid ground beneath his feet might be more of a disservice than a help, even if Xiang could lift him.
As Tone struggled with his own name, Xiang didn't pressure him to get it out, only humming softly, putting one foot in front of the other steadily. When it was finally voiced, he repeated it aloud, keeping his voice soft, "Tone. Then it is a pleasure to meet you, Tone." he added, even if Tone wouldn't remember this experience when it was over, if he did Xiang wished for Tone to remember him kindly.
"You're doing very good, lets keep walking," he murmured, nearly stumbling himself when Tone said he wouldn't mind to die. "Safer still to stay alive, I think." Xiang shook his head, not saying more on the subject, although he had much to say on the subject of dying. Instead he listened as Tone went on until he stumbled. Xiang crouched beside Tone, still covering him with one wing and laying against his side, forepaws on his paws.
"Take my hand? I'll take you somewhere new. You don't know who I am, but you're with me. I won't let anything happen." Sitting with Tone now, Xiang kept close contact, hoping that his presence was doing the young ulaya some good. "Hold tighter to my hand, you can feel it, how warm it is, your grip is strong. Come now, open your eyes and look at me, prove to yourself that you're here, you can."

The kindness in the other's voice. Helped to get rid of the darkness he felt was lingering around him. The poison he felt he had on top of him. Making him sink. The voice, was now becoming a beacon of light. Trying to pass some smile when he said it was a pleasure meeting him. He wouldn't have been a pleasure to meet himself, yet this light ulaya was telling him so? The encouragement had helped.. significantly til the fall. That's when everything started spinning.
He felt a paw go under his own. But his paw felt like bricks as it was easily lifted. Then out of instinct, he gripped the hand of the stranger. How intense he was feeling, he was sacred to open his eyes. They felt cemented together! Biting his lip, and it didn't take long before his teeth had ripped through the skin, but Tone couldn't feel it. It couldn't even taste his maw filling with the taste of iron.
The dropplets hitting the ground as he made a sound that was slightly lasting of the pain he was enduring. The harder he fought, the harder he'd hold the others hand. "I'm scared-!" And within the darkness and pull- he heard the light male's voice.. slowly..slowly pulling him out and when he said open his eyes...
It was a hurtle, and when he finally did it- the sweat under his fur made his fur mat down. As he gasped for breath- and started to shiver. It was the fall of the high, leaving the body that was tearing him apart now. Now his eyes were fully open- painfully so. Then the breaths went slower... Looking ahead, but clearly he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings but he was here now. Scared, shaking. Shivering. But here. "Take me.. there...." But his grip on the ulaya hadn't loosened. "Where you are. I'm here now. I'm here..aren't I?" He questioned the stranger as if he himself trying to rationalize where he was. If he was truly out of the darkness.

X X Encouraging Tone to cling to his paw as tight as he needed, Xiang squeezed back. Whatever this young ulaya was going through, Xiang could not understand it, but he could be here with him, comfort him as best that he could. In Xiang's youth he might have left Tone to fend for himself, disgusted at such a display, but the years had taught Xiang the importance of having a compassionate heart.
When he noticed the blood run down Tone's chin, Xiang nudged his forehead against the others and made soothing noises. "Just breathe Tone, I'm here. Breathe with me, I won't let anything happen."
With Tone gasping, Xiang himself drew breath slower, though his heart was pounding. When those rainbow hued eyes opened again, Xiang held his gaze, steady. Not daring to waver even the slightest. When Tone shivered, he made himself warm and warmer still, to stave off the chill air settling all around them as best he could.
"You're here Tone, I'm here." Xiang nodded in reply. As for where he would take Tone, for now he didn't know. Now he could only do his best to comfort him and keep him safe, a rush of wind shook the bare branches above them and snow started to drift down. Xiang didn't feel it.

It was as if waking up from a dream, or gasping for air when you initially jump in to a body of water, that rush. He was finally back among the living. When teh stranger got warmer- he instinctively got closer to him. The ranges of his body's feelings we still a bit crazy but he was certainly calming down now. With every word the other said, was Tone following as instructed. Til he was coming out of the storm.
It took a few breaths before he could ground himself. That was the trick. To get down from the high, to know that you touched ground. Mentally it was a task when your mind thought it was soaring. His breath slowed- but not entirely when he simply leaned in to the male, gathering his warmth, before his brain started to function at some level of normality. Reality. Then his pupils started to normalize, and squint just slightly. Especially from the light that emitted from the ulaya beside him. The one he curled up against at his lowest time.
"That... was a... wicked scary high... " He dared not to shake his head to cause another turmoil. "Mmm..... where... am I.." Slowly looking up and a pair of wings covered him. Then slowly he looked to his side at the most beautiful creature he'd seen. "Damn you're beautiful.. and bright..nmmmmmmmmm." A slightly grown. Then slowly he looked down at his paws to register..Still coming back to. "You... brought me...out of the darkness.. lighted my way.." A soft smile... and sluggishly he began to slip. "I haven't slept...... in days... I'm safe with you- are...n't..I?" As he lifted his ears from their flattened-selves, and those rainbow hued eyes looking in to the orange flames of the other's. "Called my name and save me from the dark.." A slight chuckle.
He could stare in them forever... Even coming down, he'd still manage to flirt. Even just a little.
Whispering on his exhaustion... but not wanting to sleep so he could stare in the other's eyes. But- his words were broken and could only be somewhat understandable. The day was slipping past and now the sun was coming up- birds chirping... Tone softly humming. Only to mimic them.. Although grounded, now he was feeling a lot more relaxed and laid back. The sluggishness of coming down.
"I didn't know I was lost..." His paw was on top of the other's still. "I guess it's half timing and the other half's luck.." Giving Xiang a genuine smile...

Xiang barely noticed the hours passing. The night sky circled around and began to lighten in the east slowly, black with spangled stars giving way to deeper shades of blue.
Continuing to breathe slow and deep so that Tone would match his pace, Xiang pulsed bright and warm. With Tone snuggled close he kept it up, the temperature around them creating a warm bubble where the snow didn't stick.
When Tone spoke again, Xiang regarded him with slight confusion, not understanding this 'high' but answered his question best as he could all the same. "We're in a forest near the island's center."
Lifting his wing as Tone turned to look, Xiang shifted a bit, but didn't let the cold morning air any closer, even as he dimmed his glow. "Ah, I was getting carried away there, wasn't I?" He chuckled softly, nodding and accepting the compliment without a word of thanks. "I'm glad you're back. It was worrisome not knowing what troubled you so, but if it is past, we should leave it past I suppose."
Xiang stood, but looked to Tone again as he continued. "I will continue to protect you, Tone. If you can move, perhaps we should retreat to a shelter, the snow seems to still be coming down." As he took a step away, just the one before making sure Tone could follow, the snow melted from his paw.
"Whatever it is, I will always come for you. Call it whatever gives you comfort. No one is lost within this world, not forever."

"Mmm.. the center.." The male cuued at the other. Reminiscing of the events that took place not even a few hours ago. Dancing to the music and drinking....lots of fermented drinks. Apparently calling it the gifts the gods gave them in order to have fun! He flicked his ears, with his slitted eyes that let the world around him start to stabilize. However much it could. "Troubled~ no.. the gift of the gods~ the fruit that makes you live~ the vida loca~" His smile was slightly slurring now.
When the other stepped away, like a fly attracted to light, Tone lifted himself up with ease and stayed close. Close enough to rub the other's side with his own, then leaned to gain some balance. But the others the other said, made the male side step away. Opening his eyes slightly more than he had, yet still squinting. "You know... saying words like that.. Sweet nothings~ sweet promises~ becareful or I might believe them." But being away from the heat the other gave- made him feel the cold more. In which he came back to the other's side. "Saving what has been discarded?" Rubbing his snout against the other's arm.
"I can surely see a halo~ I wonder if doves will start to cry from your beauty~ who would I be to deny such affections then~ Even if it's just pity for the comfort of one night." Now that he was coming back to, he seemed ..broken. His words surely putting himself down. It would continue to be so. Gazing ahead of where they started to move towards, then up at the snow falling..."I Love the way you lie..You make me want to believe~ and I love that intoxication." How vulnerable he had been. How transparent he was now. That empty feeling as all the high started to seep it's way out of him.
But this attention, the other surely was just looking for a one night stand. Of course, he'd comfort him for the night. His little angel. But when the morning comes, he already knew he'd be waking up alone. That was what always ended up happening.. But it would be a bitter sweet embrace that would help the pain go away. Even for just a moment.. and right now.. This ulaya was giving him a comfort better than he'd ever know. He was sweet.. and gave two cents for him. Out of the times he'd seek to fill the emptiness with meaningless flings, he for once wouldn't mind this one.
I'm ready to go Lead me into the light~" Replying as if he were singing.

X As Tone seemed to have no trouble following now, Xiang pad toward the temporary shelter he'd found the previous night, each step melting snow down to the frozen leaf litter which lay beneath. Luckily the space beneath the fallen log was large enough for two, although it would be a tight squeeze. Xiang assumed that Tone wouldn't mind, as they'd already spend the evening cuddled just as close. Warmth and comfort were simple things to give and didn't require a bit of effort but to lay there and to listen, replying as he see fit.
"Yes, I don't often find myself here either," he commented, glancing back. Tone's sing-songing way of speaking endearing itself to him already. "I don't recall any such fruit as a gift," he chuckled, understanding dawning, or at least he had an inkling that he might understand. "but then again, what do I know of giving."
Xiang waited until Tone was at his side and brushing up against him, again lifting his wing to cover the other, amused by the look he was given. "You're wise to take care where you place your trust, believing me just because I say that it is so, is perhaps more than a little foolhardy. If you choose to trust me, to give me the chance to wrong you, only time will tell if that faith is deserved, despite any number of promises."
After settling down, Xiang kept his wing up on his free side, the space there and the silent invitation for Tone to lay against him written in his body language. He wasn't expecting more than his presence beside him and wouldn't take what was even freely offered from one in an altered state. "I am no angel, Tone." Xiang warned, his voice just as smooth as before, no harsh edges altering the tone of it, "You need rest, I didn't sleep much this night either. Perhaps I'm the simple one, if I misunderstand your intention you'll have to forgive me, but all I want is to share a place to sleep. If that isn't enough we'll have to see what tomorrow brings."

The messed up mess he had made himself in to was dripping away with every step he took. The lax loving side coming out. Of course things would usually happen. Used. Abused. It was seemingly the same to him now.. But when they got to the small shelter. He looked at it- then saw Xiang go inside so easily..and invitingly. "I simply just take chances. Too many chances. It's a sick game that I play with myself I guess. I know they're wrong but I want to be wrong too."
When the other left, it was cold.. and standing there.. being drawn to the other was just what he needed for the night. But when he got settled...and had snuggled up next to him. The warmth of his body.. The feeling that of having someone to be with so he wasn't alone. That was what had brought him in to this crazy whirlwind of a life. Loneliness.. a scary thing when left unchecked.
He had rubbed his cheek against the other's shoulder. Taking in the company and hearing his words, although it took a moment to respond back. "Rest.. that's all you want..?" He cuued at the other. His eyes half lidded as he spoke, because indeed- the other had felt exhaustion in many levels now. Heavily weighing on the mind. "I could be your everything.." He softly whispered.. and when he rubbed his face against the male's shoulder just one last time.. His body automatically drooping down and fell in to a deep sleep...

X Xiang had settled down, the ground was cold here, but it was much dryer than it had been out in the snow. Sleeping warm was a luxury when it was snowy, sleeping warm and dry even more so, waking in a cold puddle was not an enjoyable experience, but an experience Xiang had endured many times. Less enjoyable still, falling out of trees, but it had been a very long time since he had experienced that.
Tilting his head just a touch as Tone looked in on him, speaking in that way of his that Xiang found curious still, as if he might break into song at any moment. "Does it help you?" Xiang wondered aloud, "Being 'wrong'... It is not as if I myself have never been wrong," he chuckled softly, thinking back on the days of his own misguided youth, continued on aloud, "I never found that it did me any good."
When Tone settled against his side at last, Xiang dropped his wing over the other's dark and bright coat, sharing his warmth still. Feeling Tone nuzzling against him Xiang ruffled his feathers and settled, head lowered to his crossed paws. Tone's cooing brought a soft grin to his maw and another quiet laugh. "Would you?" he murmured, lifting his head for Tone's reply to his teasing, but the young ulaya had passed out already.
"Would that you could." Xiang wondered, admiring the spangles of white in Tone's dark fur, he'd mistaken them for snowflakes at first glance, but they remained when the rest had melted like a dusting of light stars.
