Claude was out on the field particularly early today. Alright, wait. More like stupid early. Like the sun had just risen and there was still dew on the grass early. This might have been a lapse in judgement. There definitely weren't any hunters out on the field right now. Hm. The barrel of her pistol smacked into her open palm, and her lips pursed lightly before she caught sight of someone. "Hey." She called out, quicker than usual in attempt to try and snag someone this early in the morning. "Spar me."

This was far earlier than Horace intended to be out and about. Too early to be alive, much less coherent. Yet here he was, on the training fields, hoping to beat some sort of wakefulness into his drooping body. So when the voice called out across the field, he simply assumed it was to someone else. It took a few seconds to filter into his brain that there was literally no one else the other hunter could be talking to. "Hey," He turned, cracking his neck. "Okay." Maybe a spar would be just as good as coffee. He looked at her - tall, fiery, and a slow grin spread across his face. "Horace Nokani, death. You? I'd shake hands but...' He gestured with Jannisari, the purple runes of the tekkos faintly gleaming.

Claude eyed him one head to toe, noted it was nice to look someone in the face instead of down at them, and then eyed his weapons. Hm. Looks like this one was going to be a close range fighter. Lovely. "Claude." She replied, not bothering to give her last name or tell him her division, because he had eyes and could read the emblem on her coat. "That's fine." She replied in regards to shaking his hands. She didn't want to anyways. The trainee took some steps back, and switched her pistol to her other hand as she got ready.

Ah, a woman of few, few words. Alas. It was kind of a novelty that she was taller than him - Horace was so used to short women kicking his a** that a tall one would be a fun change. He wondered briefly what it would be like to spar Jan, even though he was a pacifist. To feel those blue claws scrape across his chest, thin needle-like points plunging sharply in to form a cage around his heart. He'd lean up then, and kiss him. Horace blinked, suddenly shivering. Where had that come from? His grin turned almost regretful - Claude held a gun, not something intimate.
"I love fighting suns," he drawled, hooking his thumbs in his pockets. He rocked back on his heels.

He stood still a moment, blue eyes suddenly sharper. Then Horace was moving, testing, trying to see how fast her reflexes were. The first hit was barely a tap - both to test and because he was still so damn sleepy. He bounced back, yawning. "I suppose I should've let ladies go first, princess." He rolled his shoulders in an idle shrug. HP: 40/40 DMG: 1

A brow quirked as Horace shuddered, and while it seemed out of place, Claude passed it off as an early morning thing. That, and she didn't care too much as to why he was shuddering in the first place. She also had to wonder if he was going to actually get ready, as she wasn't convinced when he hooked his thumbs into his pockets. "You don't say..." Her eyes narrowed and she tensed in surprise as soon as the man was flying her way. Claude leapt back, and immediately fired off a shot, which missed, since she'd been caught off guard. This was a first. She hadn't had a spar start off like that before. The trainee gave a soft derisive snort. "Don't call me princess, and you can keep the chivalrous notion to yourself." "Can't you see I'm a knight in shining white armor?" He flapped his coat once at her; the fringe was especially dramatic. In the same moment, Horace shot forward. Hair? Not yet. Instead, his fist caught hold of the lapel on her coat and he dragged them together so that he could bury his fist in her gut. It was a simple move, but it never stopped being satisfying. His grin never faltered, but only tipped a little to one side. "So what d'you prefer? Honeycakes? Sugar? Goddess? O Captain, my captain?" HP: 40/40 DMG: 5

That brought a small smirk to her lips, though brief. That sense of humor was appreciated. What was not appreciated though, was the turn this spar just took. With the exception of the spar with Cee when she first woke up, Claude hadn't sparred another hunter who did tactics like...this. It was something of a bitter reminder that not everyone sparred with 'courtesy'. The trainee's eyes narrowed as she had the wind knocked out of her, the spike of pain to her gut. She was quick to drop any notions of sparring politely, and returned the favor. She pistol whipped him. "Goddess sounds adequate, but Captain will do." HP: 34 / 40 DMG: 7

He sucked in a sharp breath as her gun collided with his skull. Everything felt sharper. Oh, Horace was awake now. The skin broke and a thin line of blood snaked down the side of his face. His grin was a mere baring of teeth and something dark glittered in his eyes. Despite stumbling back, Horace did not relinquish his grip on her coat. "That wasn't very nice, Captain." Suddenly, he let go of her coat and shoved her roughly, throwing off her balance for a few crucial seconds. Horace used that time to slide behind her, behind all that glorious hair. One hand tangled in those silky strands (so fitting for a pirate queen, weren't they?) and he yanked hard. At the same time, he brought his knee out viciously, aiming for the back of her knees. If she fell just right, her spine would collide with his other fist, knuckles twisted outward, waiting just for her. "Does that make me a cabin boy?" HP: 33/40 DMG: 10

"You're not looking for nice." Claude quipped in return, her eyes still narrowed at him, even as she stumbled back. Damn it. The trainee let out a short hiss as her hair was suddenly grabbed, her scalp stinging from his grip, and another wake up call. She couldn't be parading around with her hair loose, not with the division she was in. Needless to say, as her knees were knocked out from under her in a series of painful jabs, she wasn't prepared at all. This guy was something else. He was sparring on a whole other level she hadn't encountered yet, and was very ill suited for. She did her best to not give away how much each hit hurt though. The trainee didn't answer his question, and instead tried to fire a shot off at him, aiming for the face. HP: 24 / 40 DMG: 3

"Hmm, maybe I don't like nice. And it ain't everyday a cabin boy's got the captain nearly on her knees like this, hm?" The shot had clipped his cheek neatly. It stung like a b***h, but he gave her hair one last yank before letting go and sliding away. After all, a spar was no fun if he got in all the hits in the beginning. The thought sounded sop ridiculously confident and pretentious in his own head that he snorted. {you should have hit her again, horaccce. do you think an enemy would not take sssuch an advantage?} {It's a spar, Doctor. I'll hit her again.}{do not be foolisshh.} Wiping at the blood on his face, he circled Claude warily. "I know you can hit me harder than that." HP: 30/40 DMG: 1

" If that wasn't obvious." Claude drawled. She made a fist with her free hand and tried to hit his arm as he finally let her go, but it was lame at best. She immediately pushed herself up to her feet and pulled away from him, far away to give herself time to react next time, hopefully. She flexed her fingers, and switched her pistol to her other hand, readying it. She wouldn't buy into the goading, and she knew she could hit him harder, but it was hard this spar. He pretty much had pulled the rug out from underneath her feet in terms of expectations. She was struggling to get her footing again. HP: 23 / 40 DMG: 1

"Well, no, it isn't obvious, Captain." He arched a brow at her. She was a trainee, like him, and not a seasoned sun. Perhaps he should save the dirty fighting for them. Or perhaps not. If he pushed hard enough, surely she'd push back. She seemed a little off-kilter. Perfect. Horace's grin widened and then he was on her, grabbed her arm and yanking it towards him. He twisted it, feeling the sharp give of her coat. His free hand slipped in to punch Claude in the ribs, dragging the sharp tips along her shirt there. He wondered if it would cut - if she'd bleed too. HP: 29/40 DMG: 6

Was he kidding? It was pretty damn obvious. He thrived on fighting dirty. He thrived on being anything but nice. She also couldn't get a break. Not one. Her teeth clenched as she as pulled towards him again, and she wondered if she was going to be spotted with bruises later. More than likely. That also seemed to be the least of her concerns, between the twisting and the punching, and now the ripping. Thank ******** for the shield. She didn't want to imagine her condition right now if it wasn't there. "You get off on being a d**k?" She asked, her tone still even despite the situation. She rammed the butt of her pistol into the crease of the elbow that was holding onto her arm. HP: 17 / 40 DMG: 3

Horace grunted and let go of her arm. Luckily, he got off a glancing hit to her shoulder before dancing back. He bent his arm experimentally. It hurt, but was still usable. Good. Arms raised in a boxing stance, he snorted derisively at her. "Not exactly, no. Why - you wanna find out what I get off on?" Horace grinned at her. HP: 26/40 DMG: 2
