Totchli Cottontail floated aimlessly through the reefs, unconcerned about where he was going. He knew where he was, and that was all that really mattered. No one came into the reefs except for him and a few much smaller fish. Around the edges of his little home were plenty of patches of seaweed and kelp that he could graze whenever he felt hungry. The little fish didn’t bother him. They either fled when he approached or watched him with incurious eyes, knowing that he wouldn’t do anything to them. This was the place he had gone to when he was just a little foal. It was a good distance from the last place he had seen his mother, but close enough that he could n** over to the cave he had been born in for a quick check.
The adult in Totchli knew his mother was gone, and that she was never coming back. The little child in him, the one who had loved her unconditionally and tried to give her everything, still held out hope that she would return. That little child clung to a fantasy that something had taken her away from him, and that she was still fighting to come back to him. It was because of that little voice in his head that he slipped away from the safety of his home to return to the place of his birth once a week. He always searched for some sign that someone else had been there. He always found none, and every time it was like she had left him all over again.
He sighed and shook those thoughts away. Remembering did nothing but hurt him. Granted, there wasn’t much else to do but dwell on the past, but he often did his best to avoid it. With a flick of his tail, he adjusted his course so that he was no longer simply floating. Instead he was swimming, with a destination in mind. Deeper into the reefs, he went, until he reached the hollow in the center where he had made his bed. Determined not to think about his mother anymore, he set himself to the task of cleaning up a bit.
Not that there was much to clean. He had some cushy seaweed that made a nice bed for himself, and around the edges of the little hollow were several stones and shells. Shiny, colorful things that made their way into his path and caught his eyes. He often picked them up and brought them home to study. Sometimes he would make up stories about them, like the little rock that was nearly clear except for a few sparkles of colors in its depths. He pretended that one was a star that had fallen from the sky.
With little else to do, he reorganized his trinkets.

Squishy drifted on the breeze, squeaking softly to herself in a parody of humming. She was bored. Oh, sure, she probably could have stuck around with the Cute Orange One, or the Girl, but she wasn't feeling that just yet. Maybe she could poke the Shiney One into going on a hunt. That as always fun. But the Loud One would start to hem and haw until the Shiney One wore him down. She perked when she noticed a large white creature go into the reefs. A quick investigation showed her a cute little nest. With a little squeak, she spun and zipped off to fetch a member of her smack so she could get this show started.

It was like something out of a tale of terror, a long tentacle, it's suckers reinforced with spiky talons slithered over the great rock barrier. Soon after more tentacles followed before a pair of jade eyes popped above the rock's surface and looked around eagerly. She was practicing her sneaking skills, something her papa stressed was most important for her success in their little band of rogues. She secretly suspected it had more to do with him trying to keep her back, far and out of the way of trouble. But she wanted to help and she knew she could be useful! But for now she could practice sneaking....maybe she could sneak up on Wolfgang next time he came by...she hadn't managed that trick since she was a newly found foal - Wolf had said something about being so shook up and not turning into his father...well, at the end of the day he had gotten a lot more wary and had developed a 6 sense to tell whenever she was around so surprising him had become an impossibility. He was absolutely no fun sometimes...

Squishy zipped through the waves and nearly crashed into the sneaking mer before she realized the filly was even there. With her signature squeak, she dropped down onto Natasha's head and intertwined her thin, iridescent tentacles with the mer's mane, squeaking at a rapid pace. None of these large, slow creatures had learned to speak her language, but there was always the chance that one of the alligators was nearby to translate.

"Woah, woah - easy there Squish!" Natasha said turning her jade gaze upwards. "What's got you so shook up, huh? You're not hurt or anything, are you?" she asked trying to get a better look at the jelly fish and using her tentacles to gently prod her little comrade for any serious injuries. Finding none she waited patiently to see what Squishy wanted.

The little jellyfish huffed in frustration. Hadn't she just spent five minutes explaining what was up? But no! The Girl didn't listen! She never listened.... but then, none of the hooved ones listened. She huffed again and squirmed free before darting away from the mer. She paused a good distance away and chattered, demanding that the Girl follow.

"Okay, alright, I guess practice is over for the day," Natasha said pushing herself up from the sandy base of the water and propelling herself forward with the help of her powerful tail. "I'm coming! Where are we going anyways?"

Squishy muttered darkly to herself. If the Girl had been listening, maybe she'd know! Ah, but that was neither here nor there. All would be forgiven, if the Girl presented her with an amusing show to watch. She led the mer through the water and to the reefs that she had see the white thing disappear into. Then the little jellyfish stopped and waited.

"Is this it?" Natasha whispered to the jelly fish. She looked around curiously, not seeing anything that would capture hers or the jellyfish's attention so completely. "What's going on, Squishy?"

The little jellyfish darted behind her and tried to push her forward.
Of course, just then, Totchli slipped out of the reefs, looking for a bit of a stretch. Velvet, as she always did, seemed to know exactly how he wanted his knickknacks positioned and had gone about fixing them before vanishing into whatever little hidey hole she had found. He hadn't seen her, but he had to assume that was what she'd done, since everything had been right where he wanted it.

"Huh?" Natasha tilted her head and regarding the mer that emerged from the reef with curiosity. "And here I thought Wolf and I knew all the other merfolk in this area. This fellow must be new." She gave squish a side eye, "Seems the only polite thing to do is introduce ourselves, yes?"

Finally! She squeaked a confirmation and drifted back a bit so she could enjoy the show.
Totchli heard the squeak and glanced over at them, then froze when he saw the strangers. This... was not good. He darted back into the reefs. They'd go away after awhile.

"Oh dear...." Natasha blinked as she watched the blur of which rush into the reefs. "Well, that could have gone better. Squishy, you didn't by chance already introduce yourself to this fellow, did you?" She swam over to the reef and tried to catch a peek at the stranger within. "Hello? Hello in there? You don't have to be afraid. We won't hurt you. Well, I certainly won't hurt you and Squishy seems to be in a fairly good mood today so..." Oh this wasn't going very well at all. "Won't you please come out?"

Squishy shook her whole body to indicate that she hadn't introduced herself yet. After all, she would have brought the Shy One to the Girl if she had, but she brought the Girl to the Shy One.....eh... she didn't like that name. She would come up with one better, soon.
"Go away!" Totchli called, safely hidden amongst his colorful reefs. His pink fins and markings blended in perfectly with all the bright colors around him. Too bad the rest of his body was so blindingly white that it practically glowed. He wasn't nearly as good at hiding as Velvet was, and after having gotten to know the shy dolphin, Totchli had learned just how bad he was at blending in. But it had never really been an issue before. Maybe he couldn't hide, but he knew all the twists and turns like the back of his hoof. He could wiggle his way into spaces no one else could follow.
