The main street is where all of the roads connect. Whether you want to walk home, to the bar, or get to the holding cells. Though it is a beautiful walk at night when you want.

                                                          Two Days Ago

It was quiet out here, the road stretched before him like an endless line leading him to nothing. The sky was gray and wind wasn't too unpleasantly harsh, but it kicked up dirt and pelted the lone figure with it. He wore a black duster, military grade boots, his old BDU pants and a black sleeveless top that hugged to his diseased body. There was a old bandanna tied about the lower half of his face, keeping him from breathing in the dirt and a pair of aviator goggles to protect his eyes. He had a makeshift sack created from old sheets to mimic a messenger bag that held some of his personal items, and some other things like bottled water and hygiene products for when he had the chance to get clean. Other than that, he didn't possess much else beside his glaive which kept at his left hip so it was easier to access it.

He continued along the road, but stopped as something howled in the distance. His gaze shifted to the sound, spotting a form crawling along the ground with ease before it headed for him. The male was quick to take up the glaive and threw it at the moving form, the blade severing the cervical spine and caused the head to roll closer to him. Tch. These drifters were petty things, so slow and weak, but clearly effective in their purpose of cleansing mankind from the face of the earth so far.

His hand lifted, the glaive which now rested on it of its three blades deep into the ground began to quiver before it flew back into the male's grasp, like two powerful magnets attracted to each other. If there was one thing this mutation was good for it was certain the ability to manipulate elements. Ah, but the price was always heavy, making that unholy hunger draw a little closer each time. But he dared not think of it, not with that head still trying to chomp on him. The male worried not as he reached down, picking up the severed head before he dropping it, his foot kick to deliver a blow that sent the head on its way, leaving the body behind. Ineffective, but at least the creature was less of a threat.

Turning, he made for the body, returning the glaive to its rightful place. He spared a glance up at the gray sky, aware it wouldn't be long before darkness fell. Seems he would just have to follow the road. But he would have to look for a place to sleep tonight before it got too dark outside. But with the look of things, he wouldn't be able to rest for some time. Then again, that's just how things were out here. Shame it couldn't be any different, but if they were, then what would humanity learn? That it's okay to play with such dangerous things and pretend to be God? That there were no repercussions?

He scoffed and eyed the fallen before him, reaching down to check the body for anything usual, but found nothing more than a couple candy bars. Seems someone wasn't in the mood for sweets. Well, his loss. He tucked the sweets into his breast pocket inside the duster and moved on, traveling for a couple hours more before darkness was upon him, leaving him to walk the empty road alone. It couldn't be too much longer before he found a town or a city, right?

                                                          Present Day

The days prior had been uneventful, except perhaps the time spent getting past the barrier. Of course he'd taken the short cut instead of going through that obstacle course of a blockade. He was only familiar with the route do to his escape in earlier years. Something he didn't plan on sharing with anyone any time soon. However, he had only returned because it was the closest establishment in which to take refuge in for the meantime. After all, he felt no need to stay in one place for too long, being a man-eater and all.

He pulled the bandanna down off his face and moved his goggles from his eyes to get them out of his face. It would be nice to finally inhale some fresh air instead of breathing through the cloth or having to look through the lens of his goggles to see. But it was clear he was sleep deprived from the dark circles about his eyes, though he couldn't feel the weariness. In fact, he felt indifferent and numb, but he pressed his body forward, his boot fall the only sign he was here. Other than his physical form. But any moron with eyes could see that.

He wandered a little further into the place, finding activity in a small sector, which meant food, bed, and whatever else he could find. Actually, he was eager to find himself a tub. Nothing like a nice long soak after wandering for days on end through shitty terrain crawling with Lord knows what. However, it was probably safer out there than in here, given that he had been one of Lab Corps pet projects and an old resident. Someone might recognize him eventually, but he sincerely hoped not. He had no desire to be a lab rat ever again.

Food... noodles or pizza? She walked in circles trying to decide what she wanted. Her staff ticked lightly across the ground, feeling around before she took each step. Strands of long raven hair swayed behind her as she tried to make her mind up. "I had noodles yesterday... and pizza the day before... so maybe.." The thought was left unfinished as she came to a stop. Her staff rested lightly on a piece of trash that she bent down and picked up. If only finding a trash can would be so easy.

At least the clouds have slowly started to disperse and fragmented rays of light beated down on her skin. How she loved the warmth of the sun on her flesh. It made her wonder how many other people noticed the feeling or missed it when the sun was gone.

Shaking her head, Alice realized she was sidetracking herself once more. "Right... food." she said to herself as her stomach rumbled softly. Now, normally she would have noticed when someone new came into town, cause they simply smell deferent. And she would have never ran into a person that was if she was paying any attention. Life was comfortable here and she often times let her guard down. Why guard against something that wasn't bothering you, right? But what ever the reason was, she found herself a hair too close to the newcomer and her staff hitting his leg lightly caught her off guard and made her stumble.

Red faced and surprised, Alice made it back up but didn't once try to look that the person or persons she ran into. "Is everyone alright?" Surely whither he fell or now, the person would be just fine, right?

As he moved along he spared himself a few moments to look around at his old home, noting how things had changed here and there. Some of the shops he loved as a child weren't there any longer, replaced by another business or gone completely to make room for something else. It was odd to be so accustom to change, but even with it, some things remained the same, didn't they? He dared not let his eyes seek out the building that once had been his prison, aware that if he did he would only find himself trouble, even if it was no more than a sparing glance.

However, his thoughts had stolen his focus, unaware he wasn't the only one to be a victim of such a thing. A minor whack to the leg drew him back to the reality before him, brows lifting slightly as he looked at the accidental assailant, noting what she held in her hand. Ah, a blind woman, how fortunate for him. Hmm. Though, he couldn't help but feel momentarily amused as she inquired about his well being. Poor thing must've felt embarrassed over such a minor incident.

"I'm fine." He replied, his voice help deep rich tones, but tranquil like undisturbed water. He was never very expressive to begin with and that bothered some, but for him there was no other choice, not with his troubles. He had allowed himself, many would be aware of how mad he was, but what good would come from that? "And how do you fare?" Other than a little hurt pride, he didn't see any injuries or smell blood. No, the latter would've definitely been a bit of a problem for the man, knowing full well of the ever creeping hunger. Ah, but he would not think on that now as it was not the time for such things.

location : Streets xxxx music : Monster - Blood xxxx

A brow rose as she listened to him. No one ever sounded so calm when she ran into them before. In fact, normally they would be shouting all kinds of things at her. Why would anyone suffer a blind person to live in these times? Her head tilting a hair as she thought about it. “I’m.. fine. But are you sure?” Pulling the staff to her, she quickly collapsed it and shoved it into her pocket. Slowly she took a step closer to the sores of the voice. “Your new. Aren’t you?” Reaching out, she felt around for an arm. Maybe she wouldn’t have to eat alone for once. “Join me for some pizza? Then I can help you find your way around.”

Although she didn’t seem scared, nervous, or worried. Deep down she was shaking. It was hard to trust new people What he this person was tainted, compromised, a hybrid or mutation? All that really mattered for her it that he didn’t try to hurt her. Which every human was capable of. “I know the best little place to eat.” Alice boosted. A slight frown formed as she tried to locate his arm. Sadly she was turned a hair too far to the right to hit her target.

"Or maybe I can show you to the housing? If your sleepy or need to clean up?" Not that she would take him to her place. But she knew where to fine what he would need and want in town. It was what everyone needed and wanted in town. Food, shelter, safety. "Oh.. where are my manners, I'm Alice and you are?"

Dark brows furrowed as she inquired about his answer, wondering if she would grow ecstatic over him not being okay had he answered at so. After all, he had not hesitate nor had his voice given any signs of stress to suggest he would not have been unscathed. Hmm. Of course, the little whispers which he often heard in his moments of fatigue fed into these suspicious thoughts of his. Perhaps she really was genuinely concerned and only seeking the truth, but again, he had given no signs of deceit in his answer.

Eyes shifted to the walking cane the woman had in her possession, watching her collapse it and store it in the confines of folded material. For what reason would she no longer need use of her cane? This woman before him was odd and it left him with a sense of ease, the male even taking a step back as the woman reached out to make contact with him. He had not offered himself as a guide, yet she thought him to be accepting of the idea. Why? Had there been a sudden change amongst the citizen of the MetroPlex in his years long absence, to show kindness where they had lacked it before? He carefully eyed her still, uncertain as to what this woman was up to.

"Yes, I'm new to the city," A clear lie, but no one could ever discover that it was so 'less they knew his thoughts. "I'm afraid I would be unable to accept. I have very little to give in return for such pleasantries." He did not take without giving something in return, everything a trade. Even his kills, but he did not wish to think on that subject in particular. Though, he could not help but lean ever so slightly close to the woman, a single silent inhale carried a most enticing flavor, one he was far too familiar with: fear. The hunger he kept tamed began to awake slowly from its dormant state, those soft whispers growing a little louder as they spoke of wicked things now. Delicious things. But alas, he withdrew once more and damned himself for that second of weakness. His impulses were the biggest threat to his survival, particularly those of his mutated limb, one that seemed to have a mind of its own. However, he was fortunate that it behaved itself even now, allowing him full motor control over it.

Presented with a name, the male found himself wordless as he debated on how to respond. Yet, he eventually opened his mouth to speak yet again. "Kastor, though you may address me as Kass." He said, noting how she had missed making contact with him and that good fortune he spoke of before began to back-fire. He should've known better than to think Lady Luck would smile on him so. The arm blackened by mutations had extended itself, allowing her hand to find what it sought. Damn it. He had not intended for this, but nevertheless, no harm could come from this. At least not for the moment.

location : Streets xxxx music : Monster - Blood xxxx

As soon as she touched his arm, her fingers laced into the fabric. "Ah Kass, a lovely name. So no food then? Are you sure? Let's grab some pizza to go before I take you to the housing district," Alice knew in General where she wanted to go. It was the curbs, cracks, and people about that made that journey entertaining.

"So, tell me of life outside MetroPlex? Is it as bad as everyone says? For that matter, I hope you didn't have a hard time getting into the city. I hear it's a pain." she brought them to a stop infront of a little pizza shop that sold pizza by the slice. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a few coins. "I want one with the works and add jalapeños. And get something for you. Then we will be off."

The man be hide the pizza stand let out a deep rich laugh."Alice, did you kidnap another newcomer to the city? Girl one of these days it's going to get you hurt." amusement was written across her face as she briefly spoke with the man. "I didn't kidnap anyone. I'm simple showing him around. And like the others we will part ways once he has a place to stay."

She turned slightly to face Kass's direction a hair more. "Oh, manners. Can't forget those. This is Bryan. He makes the best pizza in town." the shop owner laughed again as he waited her Kass's order. "I'm the only pizza maker"

The male left out a quick sigh as she took hold of his arm, an odd sense of devious contentment seem to exude from the mutated limb. Damn thing was just mocking him now. Well, better than compared to the alternative. However, it didn't make the fact that he'd now become this woman's seeing eye dog any more favorable. But he was much too tired to care for such a quarrel, how lucky for her.

Spoken words held his attention, the male reluctantly responding to her. "I'm certain." Why did she feel the need to question his ability to make his own decisions yet again. Did she feel he was to incompetent to speak and care for himself? Tch. Yet, the questions that followed were a little more tolerable, but as always, he kept it short. "Getting into the city was no challenge, surviving outside of the MetroPlex is. More so for those who aren't accustom to the hard conditions awaiting them." Those who did dwell outside of cities and small civilizations were either mad, mutated, or undead. Most humans didn't stand a chance unless they knew what they were doing or heavily armored and well equipped.

The scent of food threatened to make his stomach sing a song of greeting in the usual manner of a gurgle, but it failed and he was thankful it kept quiet. He didn't need this woman inquiring about his original decision again, such would be irksome. Of course, she didn't need to ask it seemed, already deciding for him as she told him to get something. His brow twitched slightly, but he didn't open his mouth to order. He would scrounge up his own meal later when he had the means to do so.

Kass cared not for the small banter both woman and man carried on before him, making no attempts to join them in their conversation until he found himself dragged into it. How wonderful. "Business must be good then." He said, only falling quiet for a moment before turning to the woman at his side. "And I'm not getting anything." Icy hues returned to the man before him, not sure what else they expected of him. Given the circumstances in which they met, Kass was aware he was isolating himself and not being very pleasant sociably, but he had been sleepless for a few days now and where they in his place, they would understand and perhaps appreciate his ability of being as placid as he was.

location : Streets > Pizzeria xxxx music : Monster - Blood xxxx

Bryan looked at Alice then to Kass before letting out a full hardy laugh. "Boy, you picked the wrong person to show you around. I'll pack a few extra slices, on the house." She chuckled as she gave a little nod. "Hay now, I'm not that bad. Besides, I have a feeling he would be lost without me. You know I found him in the dead center of everything." After taking the good and paying for it, she started off once more, changing directions again.

If it wasn't for the fact she held into his arm, she would have stumbled a few times and almost dropped her food once. "Ok, lodging. Are you looking for a few times, long term, a quick bunk and shower?" The city did offer many options. After all, people were coming and going all the time. "I rent a room if you want it till you know what your looking for."

She paused as if suddenly giving her offer real thought. Was it really wise to offer a stranger her room? Most definitely not. With a shrug she started walking once more. "I think that's the best idea really and plenty of travelers have left clothes here and there. So I might and some mix match outfit that might even fit." Then she leaned in as if to tell him a grand secret, something no one else knew about. She even held up the box of pizza to cover her mouth as she spoke. "Don't worry.. it won't matter to me, I'm blind."

Alice erupted into laughter as she thought of something to ask. Maybe she could even get a real conversation started. "Do you know anything about fixing stuff. You can't stay at my place for free. But I have some work you can do to pay it off. Hope you don't mind getting shanghaied. "

Did this man think he voluntarily signed up for being dragged about? If so, he was sadly mistaken. However, he didn't object when the man said he'd supply more food, though he hoped this Bryan would be aware that Kass would not touch it. Quid pro quo. He did not take unless he was able to give back, to keep balance as to not suffer later consequences. One might think it silly, even more so when something so small was given, but had man not learned what happened when you just took? Why else Kass stand here now or any other mutated or undead being? It was because men had taken, destroyed, and played with things that were not theirs to begin with. No, it was time for nature to give back, to return sorrow and fear unto those who had given it first, to watch man squirm as they struggled to survive. So he kept balance in nearly all he did so he would go unpunished.

Again his competency was being insulted, this time with a laugh. That he did not appreciate. Did she think so little of him because he did not dwell inside these walls like a frightened rat? Tch. One hour outside these walls and they would see who was incapable of what. Ah, but what a waste that would be. Why take her out there to die and gain nothing when he could trap her and devour her innards himself? It sounded pleasant and he wouldn't have to feel guilty about it this time. Maybe consider it a mercy killing, but for who? Him or her?

Having left the establishment, Kass listened as the young woman inquired about that which he sought, almost feeling relieved to hear such talk. Though the pleasantness of the subject was made bitter by her offer and her . . . Attempt to be amusing. Again, he had no way of repaying her with either goods or currency. At least with a shoddy establishment he could barter by offering to do maintenance work for lodging. Speaking of such a devil, her offer came with a price, one he'd pay anywhere else. He took a moment to debate with himself about what had been offered to him compared to what he might find were to he decline. Before long, there was a soft, reluctant sigh.

"I suppose I shall accept for now," He said, "Although I request that you allow me to bathe and sleep first. I've been without sleep the last few nights and I have intention of depriving myself any longer than I already have." Surely that wasn't such an outlandish request and perhaps it would keep her from trying to introduce him to anyone else. Fortunately for him, he slept like the dead so she wouldn't be able to disturb his slumber either. Mm. the thought of some sleep sounded a little more marvelous than before.

Her face paled at hair as she heard he hadn't slept in a while. He said a few nights. "Then by all means, we need to get you to bed right away." Alice frowned as she thought about it. She practically swiped him up and carried him away with little disregard to his want's or needs. "I'm sorry..." she was very soft spoken. Pulling her staff back out, once it was fully extended she quickened her pace.

As they drew closer the the housing district lights started flashing on top of huge poles. Alarms were going off all over the place. She sucked in a sharp breath as a fearful expression washed over her face. "Something is happening at the wall." Her voice hardly a whisper as her fingers gripped a bit the tighter on Kass's arm. Again, her pace quickened once more. She was almost at a trot. "Please keep up, it's not safe outside. You can sleep where ever you like in the house. Promise."

What if zombies made it into the city? The last thing she can still remember seeing was a zombies. It's face half eaten off. What if they were at her house? What if they were heading her way? Her heart raced with the thought. No, all that mattered was getting inside.

Right away? Ah, he much rather wash up first. He didn't like to sleep covered in days' worth of filth and sweat, it made it harder to fall asleep. Besides, the warm water would relax the muscles and give him the few moments he needed to recoup for his travels. Of course he'd have to voice this at some point, but for now he kept quiet, hearing the woman's apology. He felt as if he should've responded, but what was there to say? Hmm.

It was unexpected but hardly startling when the warning systems activated. Kass kept his calm composure and felt no need of urgency. He knew it meant the dead were attempting to breach the perimeters, but he walked along side these very creatures, got closer to them than most dared, even shared the occasional meal with them. Why worry? Besides, he could defend himself with ease, but this wasn't the place where everyone was as fearless as he. These were people who kept themselves behind walls of stone, living their lives without many struggles. It was a foreign environment to what laid outside. So he understood when the woman at his side grew terrified. It was only natural to fear that which could kill you.

The woman urged him to move quicker, easily keeping pace with her as she spoke of the lodgings. Perhaps it was means to somewhat preoccupy her mind for the moment, but the scent of fear seemed to swell and taunt him. Ah, but it wasn't just her, others who hurried past carried the same flavor aroma. It was just like the dead to find a way to rouse his hunger, but to avoid it he would have to devour something. So much for not wanting pizza, but it would quiet the beast and keep it from causing trouble. He just hoped they reached her home before he reached his breaking point.

location : Streets > Alice's House (Exit) xxxx music : Monster - Blood xxxx

Even with his clearance in LabCorp it took a while to get both of them into the city. They oassed him quickly but kept wanting to test the girl. His anger snapped as he stepped between her and the others. He gave his word, no harm would come. And although she wasn't a zombie, he didn't thing she was fully human.

After a few hours of fighting and demanding their release, they where let loose into the city. The first place to go was Main Street. Then from there let her decide what she wanted to do next. "Ok Aria, are you hungry, sleepy, what would you like to do first?" His voice was soft and gentle as he spoke to her. He would need to let his bother know about this.

Arai trembled slightly as the men around them argued with Brock about her species. They shined tiny lights in her eyes and at the word 'test' Arai growled under her breath. No matter what they said she kept a tight hold on her hood. She was surprised as Brock continued to fight for her and calmed down enough to let them do what they had to do, all the while refusing to let her hood fall down. When they seemed satisfied that Arai wasn't hungry for human flesh they let them go. She felt better now that they could walk again. Looking around the City with wide eyes Arai remembered not ever being this far into the city before- having never been courageous enough to approach the front gates like that.

Shaking her head at Brock's questions she continued to move from either side of the taller man trying to look at everything. It was different than she expected somehow... And in comparison to her beloved woods; much, much different. "Arai..." She corrected before pausing and holding a part of her dirty hood forward. "Is there water?" She didn't need too much, just a little to brighten the color again. Then again it had been a good while since she had felt clean, but didn't quite know how to voice this.

"Is here your home?" She asked after a moment. Her adopted home was the forest, but it didn't seem to be the same case with the Tall Stranger named Brock. She glanced around again. She picked up some voices here and there but the place seemed quieter than what she was used to. The wind was fainter and even the feathered creatures were scarce-- wait, scratch that. A flock of them fluttered away as they turned a corner. A younger Arai would have chased them, but she was too intrigued by the new area to care at the moment.

Brock ruffled her hair softly with a chuckle. "If you would like, I can get you some new clothes. You can wash those while you wear the new ones." he said with a gentle tone. He wanted her to be happy and feel safe. Surly she couldn't have felt that safe in the woods. Not with all the zombies about. "And yes, I live here. My home is here anyways. Would you like to see it?"

He turned and started for one of the side streets. "Come on, i apartment is this way. We will stop by the store first." his apartment didn't have much and nothing a young girl would need. Thankfully, working ad a guard for LabCorp paid will enough to stalk up on things she would need or possibly want.
