xxxxxI am currently a second year college student studying music education. I am an avid roleplayer and love to make graphics when I have the time. As far as my credentials go for making this tutorial, I have worked my way up through the ranks from an ordinary member to one of the co-owners of one of the largest guild-based Harry Potter roleplays. I also had the honor of being the main secondary host of the 12th Annual User-Run Ball which uses the guilds as a planning station.

IMPORTANT TERMS
The following is a list of terms that you may come across when working with guilds.
Owner:: this user is currently the one who owns the guild. This is typically done by purchasing the guild brand new or by purchasing it from another user and having ownership transferred. The owner is often the captain of the guild, but this is not always the case.
Captain:: this user is in charge of the guild. They are able to promote and demote people to crew and vice-captain, as well as ban people from the guild. They are also able to edit the front page and add subforums.
Vice-Captain:: this user is often the captain's right-hand man (or woman, or gender neutral person of awesomeness). It is important to promote only those who you trust to this position as they will have the ability to take the guild from you. This was originally intended to be used in case something happened to the captain, however there are people who abuse this power. They have the same powers as the captain.
Crew:: this user has been selected by the captain and/or vice-captain to aid in the moderation of the guild. They are not able to promote anyone, nor are they able to edit the front page. This user can view current join requests and accept or deny them. They can also move and delete topics, as well as edit them if needed.
Public Guild:: these types of guilds are able to be viewed and posted in by everyone, regardless of if they're a member of your guild. Use this with caution as you do not have the ability to ban non-members from your guild should they do anything that violates your guild rules.
Private Guild:: these types of guilds can be seen by everyone, but only members are able to post. If you are concerned about non-members posting, this is your best option as it gives potential members a glimpse into your guild.
Hidden Guild:: these types of guilds can only be seen and posted in by members. This is best for private guilds where you only want certain people to be in on it, as well as for private test guilds.
