Hi!

My name's Brisk, and I'm new to this guild. It was recommended to me by a fellow writer to help with my writer's block, so I decided to check it out for myself smile If you'd like, go ahead and introduce yourselves!

Hi I'm Lauren, I'm an avid reader. So what kind of things do you typically write?

Well right now I'm in the middle of a novel set in an alternate universe to ours. In that universe, the Japanese dominated the Pacific and made colonies out of California, Oregon and Washington. Germany destroyed all of Europe, and is currently making its way across the Atlantic to seize the rest of the continental U.S. It's set around stories of a rebel faction fighting against both hostile fronts.

Sounds interesting, I like it. It sounds like the type of book I would read. Where are you having your writers block?

Right now, trying to finish one particular story. This one revolves around a mission to secure supplies for the rebel forces, but goes horribly wrong when a rat in the camp alerts the German forces in Kansas about it. After a 3 hour firefight, the rebel forces are decimated and only one person is kept alive.

That does sound like that might be difficult to write. Is there any way I might be able to help you with some ideas or something to help you get past your writers block?

It's one of the biggest chapters I have, so it is quite difficult. I'd be completely open to any ideas smile

I see, hmmmmm. What part are you getting stuck on? That way I can help a little from there and not just in parts you already have.

Well, I'm stuck on detailing the sole survivor's experience in a German "rehabilitation camp", and his (eventual) escape from being publicly executed for his resistance.

Ok I'm sure I can figure something out. I'll probably end up writing up something and then showing you to see if it is something you might be looking for. How does the camp treat him, and what are some of the conditions like? Time of year? Uniforms for Germans? Is there something he wears specifically while there? Where does he try to escape to?

The camp is dirty, for lack of a better word. Food rations are limited to a stale piece of bread and juice, and the sleeping quarters are mattresses put under a tarp. It's around April, so it's still quite rainy. Regular uniforms for Germans, the story is still within the time of the Nazis, so the uniforms are heavily influenced by it. There's no screening process, so the main character is wearing what he was captured in, which was just a long sleeve shirt and jeans. There's an American-controlled camp just 100 miles west of the German camp, so he's planning an escape to there.
