This was probably the most interesting place they'd gone yet, Tarakona decided as he watched the late afternoon sun cast long shadows on the odd rocks all around He liked all the strange shapes and shadows.

"This is so neat! We could scare the scales off anyone in a place like this!" the snake exclaimed excitedly.

Ejderha was moving sinuously through the shadows. There were so many of them, it only made sense to take advantage of the cover they provided. Especially since this dirty brown and grey environment was one where blue snakes would stick out like...well...blue on brown and grey.

She too could tell that this was a somewhat sinister place, that made one think of nasty creatures popping out of the numerous hiding places concealed all around them. But Ejderha much preferred to be suprising than surprised.

"Hush," she hissed. "We don't want to announce our presence to the world."

The sounds of unusual voices brought a brown head up from a deep pile of bones. He shook several smaller pieces from his green mane and peered around. He was surprised by the creatures that moved among the bones.

"Why would you want to scare off anyone or not announce your presence?" It didn't make sense to him. There wasn't many who visited this place after all. Nuing probably more than most. He peered down with curiosity at the blue snakes.

"Because scaring people is more fun than saying 'Hello'!" the lighter snake announced, looking up at the big brown mammal. "Wouldn't you say so?"

He slithered closer for a better look at the bigger animal's markings and colors. How neat was this! Lightning bolts! And green...was it still fur if it only grew on the head and made a tail? No, there was some other name for it, wasn't there...

Ejderha let out her breath in an annoyed hiss as 'Kona jumped right in, again, and started talking to the large predator. Really, she couldn't take him anywhere!

"Becaussse," she retorted, hissing a bit in her annoyance, "there are some creatures that like to eat snakes. And we'd rather not be eaten." Anyone who could be hunted should be so careful if they wanted to live.

He listened to the lighter one. "Couldn't say. Never tried to scare anyone." In fact he was prone to avoid those alive. Nuing glanced at the bones around them. He didn't think they got scared. Just as fascinated by the movement of the snake as the snake was with him, Nuing gently reached out a paw to lightly touch the body.

"How do you move like that? You don't have legs." It tickled the back of his mind what bones a creature like this could hold. Clearly nothing like the ones around them. The other snake, sounding female and annoyed, brought his attention back to the pair, "oh." He could see where that might be a problem for them. "There's none around here that I know of." Nuing tried to offer helpfully.

"Why not?" 'Kona asked of the hyena. "You've got this great scary place, all sorts of weird bones everywhere, you could scare the daylights out of anyone!" Oh, he could come up with all kinds of ways to jump out and scare someone just looking at this place. How totally awesome!

The snake giggled a bit as the big paw touched him. "It's really easy," he answered. "I just move a bit to the left, and then to the right, and I keep going!" 'Kona explained, demonstrating.

If Ejderha had had any limbs, she'd have brought one up to whack herself in the face at the idiots before her. Even so, she was sorely tempted to use her tailtip.

"I am glad that no one here eats snake," she replied frostily. "And our movement isn't quite that simple. Our bodies are very muscular, much more than yours, which gives our movements more strength to power them." As well as the strength to crush and digest fairly large creatures, but that wasn't something she cared to share with this hyena.

"Well I don't think bones scare very easy." It sounded silly, but he thought it was true. Nuing looked around the boneyard. "I don't think its scary," but then again he liked bones and spent a lot of time around them. "Have you scared anyone little snake?"

The movement was unlike anything he'd ever seen, so of course he watched closely as the snake demonstrated again. When he'd put his paw on the body he could feel all the muscles. Undoubtedly they were very strong in their body. "It sounds easy when you put it like that."

"Um, you don't eat snakes do you?" It would be odd if they did when he'd said no one here did. Maybe that was why she was mad. "Ah," so it wasn't as easy as the lighter snake had made it sound.

Now 'Kona was a little frustrated at the mammal's lack of understanding. "No no no, you use the bones to scare people! Wear them, throw them, put them together and make some bizarre creature, that sort of thing!" Really, all you needed was a bit of imagination to turn a place like this into a fear-fest!

"Of course I've scared people," he retorted proudly. "Haven't you?"

Ejderha sighed as 'Kona latched onto the hyena's apparent lack of understanding. Trust her brother to make a mess of everything, every time.

"Everything sounds easier than it is," she offered. "And why do you care if we eat snakes? I doubt our diet is something you, as a large predator, should be concerned about."

Nuing was fair to baffled at the snake's explanation. "Bu-but-but.... you could break the bones!" His eyes were wide as he sat on his rump and scooped the nearest bones into the safety of his front legs. These snakes were dangerous to his bones! He would never never let them into his den. Nuing shook his head. Scaring others wasn't normally in the job description. "I collect bones. I don't break them." He cast a slightly affronted look at the light colored snake.

"Er well... I'd said no one here ate snakes, but if you did then it really isn't true." He gave an awkward shrug. Their diet really didn't concern him. Snakes were really hard to figure out. "Are you going somewhere now?" Nuing tried to change the subject from food. Maybe it would get him on firmer footing with the snakes.

"Yeah, so?" Tarakona asked curiously. "What's the point in having toys if you don't break some of them?" His tone was pure wonderment - he literally didn't understand why the hyena was so protective of some old, dusty bones. The paler snake looked over at his sister for help.

"Frankly, our diet is no concern of yours," she retorted with a sniff. Who cared about how true his statement was? She'd had enough of this. At least it looked like 'Kona was ready to leave as well.

"Yes. We're going away. Come on 'Kona," she added to her brother, slithering away rapidly.

"Toys?! These aren't toys little snake. They are valuable and my precious bones!" He tried to help the snake understand, but it looked like they both had trouble understanding the other. What was a hyena to do? He had much pride in his work. The bones he brought home were useful to others and brought joy into his life. He didn't know what others used them for, for he only brought them back.

"Oh well I was just trying to be correct." He wondered why the female had her tail in such a knot all the time. "I see. Bye little snakes." Sitting among the bones he watched as the pair of snakes vanished in among the piles. Would he ever see them again? Probably not. Reluctantly he let go of the bones he had grabbed and stood up. He needed to get back home too.
