There was a full moon tonight. The Great Lion was watching, his eyes wide open. The Royal Guard slid through the brush, the light reflecting on the lighter parts of her coat. The border was close... She was sure she was actually ON the border, really. It occurred to Nina-dini, quite often, that she could just as easily step across and become a rogue, leave behind the feeling of being trapped in the Low Class. But she loved her family dearly, and had a deep loyalty to the pride. She'd never leave it, even if she had the opportunity.
She stood now, at the border, heterochromatic eyes staring out into the night beyond. The desire to leave wasn't there, but sometimes... She wondered about the world beyond and the stories rogues had to tell.

The liger-sized male moved slowly, his ground-eating stride carrying him along with illusionary ease. Under the dust and thick fur, the lion was solid muscle, built from years of travailing. There was scarcely a land he had not visited, nor a pride he had not met. For a member of a pride so secret and hidden away even their allies did not know its exact location, Sliabh had seen and done more than most rogues. And yet the experiences, the miles of sand under his paws, did not seem to weigh heavy on the male. Instead they gave him a sence of solid dependability, like the moutains from which he had been named.
Now he moved through a new landscape, toards a pride he had never seen. The scents in the air carried their secrets to him on the wind. The moon above washed him with its knowladge. Pausing he glanced up, studying the full roundness high above. After a long moment the massive male let out a long, slow breath into the cooler night air and continued on. He would need to hunt soon, but first he needed to make contact with the owners of this land. He had learned a long time ago to declare his pressence even if he was just passing on by. It was always best to ask permissiono to hunt anywhere close to an established pride.
A pale glowing figure came into sight and he slowed his pace, taking his time to study this possible first contact. She did not seem violent or crazed so he didn't slow down, but simply continued to walk until he was within calling distance. Finally he slowed to a halt, long scared tail curling behind him as he regarded her with amber eyes bleached silver by the moonlight.
"Evening ma'am." He called politely, his voice a low husky sound in the quietude of the deep shadows.

The lion before her was very distinct. That was the first word to come to mind, anyway. The next was that he was... Huge. Nina-dini almost felt dwarfed, and it made it settle in how small she actually was in relation to others. She flexed her claws for a moment, a motion that made her toes pop, as she looked him over. He was almost like a one-lion army... At least in comparison to her own sleeker form built more for speed and tight-turning agility.
The lioness' mind snapped back to attention as she looked up as the amber-eyed lion spoke. "Good evening, stranger. What brings you to the edge of the Mwezi'johari's lands?" She inclined her head a bit. "Have you come to join us under the eyes of the Great Lion above as he watches us now?" With her chin, she indicated the moon, the symbol of their patron god, the God of the Moon. "If you are, I'd suggest waiting perhaps a couple days, lest you wish to wake up under a New Moon and find yourself a slave..."

Had she spoken her thoughts out loud Sliabh may have been surprised. So used as he was to being a protector and father-figure the idea of being a warrior was a strange one. And probably luckily for the roguelands at large, for had he been of a less pleasant mind he could have easily used his immense size to disastrous effect. As it was he was a peaceful male more liable to help others than wish any kind of ill on them.
Lowering his great shaggy head in a bow of welcome as she spoke he watched her. Politely listening to her words as he filtered the veritable torrent of information she offered. He had never heard of the Mwezi'johari, but from what she said they worshiped the moon..? Lifting his muzzle he examined the bright shimmering moon above them. Well, why not? It was as reasonable as believing in Gods and Goddesses with a whole body and not just an eye, he reasoned.
Thinking it best if he explained himself sooner than later, and avoid the potential misunderstanding if she thought he was there to join them, he shook his broad head. "Not to join, ma'am, as I already have a pride. I am a wanderer and am just passing by. I had hoped to ask permission to hunt close by, if it would not disturb your pride."
Gazing down at her, for he was indeed huge by any lion's standard and thus dwarfed the sleek female, he tipped his head slightly. "Forgive my rudeness, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Sliabh."

She clicked her teeth together in thought, then nodded. "I suppose that should be alright. Rogues pass by all the time. We are not a pride that openly attack others, as we have relations in many a pride." She paused, ears folding back. "Probably more than we know of..." She'd heard about her uncle, Yareha, and how he couldn't keep things at home... With his MATE... Of course, that hadn't been what got him ousted, as far as she knew, but that didn't mean it hadn't disgusted her. Such behavior wasn't fitting of a lion in one of the largest families of the Mwezi'johari. The only lions she felt had an excuse, within the pride, were those in the Low Class. "If you see anybody with this shape on their shoulder..." She drew a hexagon in the dirt. "Any kind of dotting in the boxes, too, doesn't matter what sort of 'order' they're in... Chances are, they're related to one of the oldest and largest non-royal families in the pride." She knew her cousin, Avahk, had a mate that originated in another pride... Which she couldn't blame him for looking beyond the borders. If or when she settled down, she'd probably do the same.
