James felt his heart jump in his bosom when Magnolia tripped forward and bumped her temple against it. Catching her by her arms, he blinked down at her as she gave him a sheepish smile beneath the brim of her sun hat. Standing upright, she fixed her off-kilter head accessory and smoothed out the length of her dress with a few sweeps of her hands.
"Sorry about that, James," she apologized. "Dancing is harder than it looks."
James shook his head. "D-don't worry about it. Should we... Should we start from the beginning?"
"If you want to."
Stepping forward, James spread his arms out as the lavender-haired girl did the same. Gently touching a hand to his shoulders, he, in turn, clasped her waist nervously. "Should I lead or you?" he asked.
"I want to give it a try this time..." Magnolia answered, dropping her gaze to her feet. "I'm going to get good at dancing no matter what."
James gave her a rueful chuckle. "We have a month until the party, y'know," he replied. "That's more than enough time to get the hang of it."
Magnolia shook her head, still not looking to him. "I know that, James, but I'm not going to make a fool of myself. Not in front of my relatives." A slight jerk of her hand notified James he should start with her, so he followed her movements in stride. "It's my cousin's wedding and, while we aren't very close, Dahlia was one of the only members of my family who was nice to me. I, at least, want to be there for her."
"T-that's admirable," James stammered, "and sweet of you, Illia- Ow. But can we start with not, agh, stepping on my feet?"
Magnolia gawked and jumped back two steps from him. "Oh, James, I'm sorry," she cried. 'I didn't mean to-"
Suddenly, there was an audible chuckle that came from neither of the two. Jerking their heads in the direction of the alleyway it was heard from, both Magnolia and James approached the nook cautiously.
"I'm... I'm not hearing things, right?" he asked suddenly.
"No... I heard it too," Magnolia reassured him. "There was definitely something-"
"You two are too funny!" the voice echoed. "Stepping on his feet! How clumsy, how clumsy!"
As James craned his ears to make out more of what the mysterious voice was saying, it was Magnolia who pipped up with an epiphany. "T-that's a telepathic voice," she said, recalling how her dear friend, Altais, would always converse in the same manner. "That must be a Psychic-type."
"You're correct!" the voice giggled again. "And I'll have you know I'm one of the best dancers in the world!" Before either could question how, out from the darkness pirouetted a little Ralts. "My name's Asphodel! And I'm going to show you how to dance properly!"

"Dance... properly?" James blinked, exchanging glances between Magnolia and the Psychic-type. "Illia dances just fine. Why do you have to teach her?"
Asphodel tut-tutted and shook her head. "Oho, have you seen you two?" she asked. "You're absolutely atrocious! You move like two Doduo whose heads are tangled together! Watch, I'll show you how it is really done."
Spreading her arms out wide and positioning them to the air as if she were being lead by a partner, Magnolia and James watched the Ralts take to waltzing with spectacular effigy. It was only halfway through Asphodel lost her footing on the skirt of her form and stumbled ungracefully. Both of the fourteen year old trainers choked back a small snort at her performance, causing her to stop fully and turn to them with a scowl.
"It's not funny!" she cried. "It was one mistake! One! W-when I evolve and become a graceful Gardevoir, then you won't be laughing!" She frowned at the two humans, balled her little fists, and shook them violently. "Ooh, I can't wait! Then I'll really show you!"
Magnolia beamed a smile at Asphodel, stepping forward and gently patting her on the top of her head. The Psychic-type visibly frowned at her touch, but seemed to calm from her mini tantrum as well. "Well, you have a bit of a ways to go, don't you think?" she said to her gently. "No need to rush it now. You're a wonderful dancer and, as you said, when you evolve, you'll be even better. But let's have fun with how you are now, okay?"
James blinked. "Illia, are you sure?" he asked her. "I mean, you were stringent on getting better really soon..."
Magnolia turned her head to him and let out a small sigh. "It's okay to indulge her," she responded. "I mean, it's dawned on me about what you said: a month is a while... I shouldn't rush things, and neither should little Asphodel here. We'll get there eventually, right?"
The redhead's lips parted a smidgen. She really has matured... he thought to himself, drawing his mouth into a little smile. Illia really has changed for the better.

Asphodel puffed out her cheeks in a pout, provoking a small chuckle from the lavender-haired trainer. Knotting her arms across her chest, the Ralts didn't want to give in to Magnolia's words, but at the same time, she knew they rung true. No matter how she contested time, it wouldn't miraculously evolve her nto a Gardevoir. Instead, she darted eyes to James and erected a finger in his direction.
"You!" she suddenly cried out, frightening him. "Come over here."
Prodding a finger at his face, James blinked, and then approached the company of the two. "What?" he asked with a tilt of his head.
Asphodel beckoned him down to her height and when he bent at the waist, she clasped hands onto his and jerked him down lower.
"I'm going to lead," she said. She then looked to Magnolia next. "And you watch and learn, all right?"
The fourteen year old trainer nodded her head as she watched as her companion was pulled along like a Poochyena on a leash by the Ralts. Unfortunately, the height difference served to be an obstacle for the bespectacled male who Magnolia knew to be an adroit dancer. He clumsily stumbled over his feet as Asphodel hummed out a waltz melody and guided herself. She seemed to be completely unaware of what she was doing to the human before her.
When she was done, she released James, and he straightened his back and pulled at his collar awaiting a laugh or two from Magnolia. None seemed to come. Instead, she beamed a smile at him -- something he knew was out of gratitude for indulging in the Psychic-type's want.

Asphodel nodded her head in approval at the male before looking to the lavender-haired trainer.
“Did you watch closely?” she asked.
Magnolia dipped her chin twice to the Psychic-type. “Very closely. I saw everything you did. You’re quite the dancer, Asphodel.”
The Ralts failed to hide the blush that crept across her wan skin by bowing her head. Puffing out her outer lip, she averted her eyes, and mumbled an inaudible thanks to her. Though it escaped the trainer, Magnolia knew the Ralts was being nice. Suddenly, she was jerked down by her this time and given a steady glance.
“It’s your turn,” she said.
