The beach and adjoining plains were breezy this time of year, the wind tangling Ramses' mane and tail as he grazed. Still, the territory he lived in was fairly safe, almost to the point of boring, and with Khufu keeping an eye out there were very few risks that he faced. Finally he had eaten his fill and he perked up a bit, breaking into a trot as he headed toward a nearby stream to get a drink.

The only thing really missing was an audience. He wasn't sure where Sienna was, and obviously Zuriel was in the water somewhere. His sons had been gone for quite some time now, though every once in a while he had word from Seiram or he stopped by for a visit during his wanders. Khufu...well, Khufu already knew how wonderful he looked, what a striking figure he made with his neck arched just so and his graceful movements. He was caught up in his own head for a moment and was only jarred out of his thoughts when something appeared directly in his path.

It had been some time since he had seen a basket, and he snorted in surprise as he halted in front of it. "Khufu! Khufu I need you!"

The hawk was never far from the stallion, and he came winging in with a rustle of feathers to perch on Ramses back, not even bothering to really look at the basket. Khufu had seen it earlier, and knew that eventually Ramses would head this way. How very exciting it would be for his lord to find the basket all by himself. "Oh benevolent and most handsome lord, you called for me?" There was not a hint of falseness to his voice, for the words out of his mouth were ones he believed in. Strongly.

Ramses nodded, stamping the ground near the basket as he examined it. "I don't think Sienna was expecting baskets," he finally said. "Do you think there is a stranger in my lands? Surely they would want to come pay homage to me if so." He tilted his head, still eyeing the basket as if he thought it might do something. "Unless...do you think the basket might be homage?"

Khufu pulled at a strand of his mane to straighten it before answering. "My lord, I do believe this is what you wished for. It seems that even the stars acknowledge your magnificence." His voice was filled with awe, and the stallion would never know that he had been thinking of just what to say since he had first laid eyes on the basket earlier that day. "It is only right and just for your bloodline to spread. For a young foal to be raised under you wise and gentle care."

The stallion did not think long on those words, instead nodding his head and giving a soft nicker of agreement. "You're right, I owe this to the world. Khufu, I place you in charge of looking over this basket and ensuring my child's safety. I shall go partake of the stream." With that he headed off, and within moments Khufu followed his instructions, launching off of him and going to circle the basket, finally perching on the woven container.

Even as he drank from the stream Ramses couldn't help wondering when he had made such a wish. Oh well, the results were probably good. And really, how hard could it be to raise a foal?

The filly nosed at the crack in her basket, and finally managed to push it open. The bright light flooded into what had once been darkness, and she blinked several times, trying to clear her vision before scrambling up onto wobbling legs. It took her a moment to steady herself, and then her legs almost buckled under her. With a small snort she kept herself standing, then managed to stagger out of the basket. She had almost made it safely when a hoof caught the edge of her basket and she had to take several staggering steps forward, barely staying up.

Her tail flicked as she looked around, hoping no one had seen her, and she let out a surprised nicker when she saw something flying towards her. The filly shied away even as blue wings flared out, slowing the hawk's progress as it neared her.

"My...oh dear what are...lady! My lady what are you doing out of your basket!"

She tilted her head slightly, studying the hawk and thinking, remembering. She had heard this voice before. It had crooned to her while she was still in her basket, and this was a voice she knew more than any other. It was odd because she didn't think they were the same. She was standing on the grass and this creature was in the air, so she twisted, trying to see behind her.

And that was when she saw them. Wings. She had wings. They moved a bit, stretching, and she swung her head back around to see the hawk in the sky.

"Mother?" The filly's voice was hesitant at first, trying to figure everything out, but then she repeated herself, a bit more confident. "Mother!"

Khufu actually found himself blushing. His beak clacked uselessly for a couple of times before he finally found the words to say. Still he stammered slightly as he tried to talk. "Oh no my lady. It would be an honor to be with your father of course, a blessed honor, but alas, I am not a soquili." He truly did look dejected, but she was already past that, her young mind trying to comprehend what all was happening.

"My Lady? Is that my name? My Lady." It had a nice ring to it, but the bird let out a loud squawk and distracted her.

"Oh dear me, no my lady. I would never presume to name my lord's daughter. He will doubtlessly bestow a name of great honor upon you. Your father! Oh we must get you to him! Follow me child!"

With that he turned and started to slowly fly away from her, and there was little else for her to do but follow, curious to meet My Lord. Her father. She had a father. She almost pranced a bit as she followed the hawk but stumbled, and quickly set to work just making sure her feet were under her as she went to meet her father.

Ramses hadn't expected Khufu to return quite so soon. But here the hawk was, flying ahead to alert him to the foal frisking along after him. And what a sight the foal was. Her mane and tail were black like his, and her body was also the same as his. After that she was...odd. Not bad per say, just different. For one she had wings that helped her balance just about as much as they threw her off balance, reminiscent of a sunrise. There were splashes and splotches of color on her. But the weirdest bit was the four eyes she stared at him with as she came closer, blue eyes surrounded by darkness, looking as if they wept blood.

"So this is what the stars sent me?" He was looking at the foal, but he knew that Khufu would still answer his question, and he was not disappointed.

"This young lady is surely here in homage to you. Simply look at the colors they have chosen to adorn her with my lord. Yes, I am convinced this must be your child, and who would recognize one of your flesh and blood better than I? I who have served you faithfully since you were a foal, I who care for you more than anyone else could ever hope. It is my humble opinion that this is your child Lord Ramses, and you can begin blessing her with both your presence and, if you would be so kind, a name."

"A name?" He tilted his head, moving forward a pace of his own, studying her. She should carry a part of me with her I believe. Something that marks her as being part of my family even when I am not at her side. Both of my sons have been graced with the first part of my name," he told her, his words almost solemn as he stared down at her. "So I shall give you the other half. You shall be called," he paused for effect in the middle of his declaration, letting the tension build (or trying to considering that the foal seemed easily distracted, but at least Khufu was benefiting), "Sesen."

The filly trailed after Khufu until she could see the other soquili, picking up her pace in curiosity while still trying to keep her legs under her. With each step she could feel her steps steadying, her confidence growing.

The stallion in front of her had a coat groomed to perfection, to the point that it appeared to shine, especially where gold marked his back. He stood proud, neck arched, and actually was a pretty striking figure from what she could see. Then again, it was bright and she had to squint a little to look up at him, but if this was her father he wouldn't be half bad.

She was already learning to tune out the fawning tones of the hawk when something caught her attention, the sensation of grass brushing her legs as the wind pushed it over.

If her father hadn't moved closer to study her she might have missed the fact that they were talking about her altogether. Instead she looked up at Ramses as he was about to bestow her name, then caught sight of a butterfly flitting about. She was debating whether or not she should chase it when Ramses spoke a word, a word that seemed to click. Sesen.

"Sesen," she repeated aloud, letting the word roll around in her mouth. "Sesen."

"I like it," she decided, beaming up at her father. "It's even better than my lady!"

There was a certain thrill to be found in the way his foal looked at him, all four eyes open wide and shining in adoration. He preened under her gaze, basking in the waves of approval from both her and Khufu (not that he'd felt anything else from the bird).

"Yes, well, my lady seems a bit old for a young filly such as yourself. I believe a different title would be more fitting. Khufu, what other options do we have?"

His familiar ruffled his feathers and clacked his beak, preening himself at being called on for advice. "Your highness, your eminence, Princess, your majesty," he was launching into a list, but Ramses knew when it was time to cut him off.

"Yes, my little princess. How fitting. Now then child, come with me and I will show you my lands as Khufu begins the tales of my deeds."

Her father waited a moment before turning, and she hurried forward to join him, walking at his side. Sesen's wings were still awkward, but finally she figured out how to tuck them in at her sides, trotting at his side.

The bird began a story, a certain fervor in his voice as he told of the glorious meeting between him and her father, and despite the many distractions she found herself listening, caught up in the tales of the magnificent stallion and the deeds he had done, of the proud family line she hailed from. The fact that the land was theirs because her father was so wonderful the land itself wanted him to trod on it, that the stars themselves were so favorable toward him that they had granted her as a gift to be raised by him.

She trotted along, secure in the knowledge that her family was absolutely amazing.
