Lucian strolled peacefully about looking for someone to ask what all of the hullaballoo was about. He looked behind bushes, up in the trees and couldn't seem to find the many lions he had seen before while he had flown over. "Strange," Lucian whispered to himself. Moving his ears this way and that, he caught part of a conversation and heard the words "breeding glasses" which alarmed him. Staying hidden, he stalked closer to the voice, and found it was coming from a lovely purple lioness. Seeing the lioness made a twinge of pain erupt in his chest, Akemi he thought and wondered how his children were doing.
Without realizing there was a branch right next to his foot, he snapped it and winced.

Starla had been waiting for a reply from the lion before her, her eyes moving between him, the coconut pouch he carried, and then past him towards the direction that the springs flowed. She was ready to start her search again, but she felt it rude to leave the lion's side just after she'd just asked several questions. She shifted her wait slightly, trying not to show her impatience, when the sound of a branch snapping nearby.
Turning her head, she found another lion standing not far from her, and looking at her oddly. She tilted her head slightly to one side, and then called out to him. "Hello, there!" She turned partially towards the newcomer, "I'm Starla. Who might you be?" It was only now that she realized she hadn't introduced herself to her first companion, and she gave him an apologetic glance, before turning her gaze back upon the newcomer.

Lucian took a step back, and thought about leaving until he heard the lioness call out in welcome. He smiled kindly and decided not to be rude since he was out and about today. The sun was beginning to move, and it looked to be around midafternoon. "Hello!" he called back approaching the two. "I am Lucian, and this fellow," he indicated the lizard with a lift of his shoulder, "is Duke. What brings you all out here?"
This, conversation, was difficult for him since he preferred his isolation. Being social was definitely not a strong suit of his, and Lucian would find himself struggling to finds words at times. The only lioness who didn't take his silence as a sign of coldness or aversion was Akemi, and he missed her. For a moment he was lost in a reverie, and had to mentally shake himself into reality.

Lucian watched the lioness intently, waiting for an answer and though he knew it rude to just leave, he was feeling uneasy. Being there with two others made him feel almost... claustrophobic. He wasn't one to be social, as mentioned before, and only wanted to leave. At the same time, he was curious to know what the searching had to do with breeding glasses. "I'll be on my way, m'lady and gentlemen," he gave a bow. His being uncomfortable won out. "I hope we meet again under better circumstances; I am very sorry. I... have trouble being social," with that Lucian turned to go back the way he had come.
Taking off at a run, he gave one mighty flap of his wings and was airborne. "Let's go find someone who isn't as... surrounded," he spoke to Duke searching below him for a lone lion or dragon to ask questions.

"Wait, don't go!" Starla exclaimed as the newcomer took to the air. How rude she must seem for not replying immediately, but once he'd revealed that curious lizard that rode upon his shoulder, she had become transfixed upon it. She had heard of familiars before, but this was her first time encountering another that possessed one, and she certainly had none of her own, though she sorely wished she would be able to change this in the future.
She had barely heard his apology, only seeing that he was distressed, and she assumed that it was because of her own silence. Stupid of her, rude of her, and she deeply hoped he would hear her own apology. She turned to the first lion, "I'll be back in a moment, and then perhaps I can learn your name as well." She said with a strained smile.
With a bound forward, she leaped into the air and beat her wings against gravity, willing herself forward, despite the awkwardness of her take-off. What was the newcomer's name again? "Lucian, wait! Please!" She called to him as she ascended to his level, her wings pumping hard for a bit, before she finally caught a slight breeze that helped her even out. "I'm sorry, I was really quite rude." Said the lioness, glancing away for a brief moment, before yellow eyes turned back to his, "I was enticed by... Duke, was it? I've never seen a familiar before, and that left me stupid. I'm awake now, I promise." She smiled, and then went on to answer his question, which had somehow gotten through her fascinated stupor, "I was searching for Marver's lost breeding glasses. A dragon, I think, snatched them away and hid them. That's what the rumors have said, and I don't know if they're true, but if there are breeding glasses about, then I have to find them before something awful happens to them." She flapped her wings to calm her nerves, "There, that's what you wanted to know wasn't it?" She smiled at him, "I really am sorry for being so rude, will you forgive me for it?"

Lucian heard Starla, and slowed his speed in the air. His wings beating without much effort; having children of his own taught him to stay in shape, or else the little ones will surely out-fly you! At hearing her apology, he started to chuckle and it turned into a full blown fit of laughter. He turned his position so he was flying with his back to the ground. It was a maneuver that took him years to figure out. "M'lady, you are not rude at all! You have nothing to be sorry for," he smiled and met her yellow eyes. "Ah yes, this little fellow. He fell from a tree and landed on my head while I was snoozing one summer afternoon, and he wouldn't stay put in the tree, so I decided I would keep him," his tone was warm and friendly, trying to show in all ways possible that he wasn't mad or upset with her.
"Breeding glasses? They're missing..." Lucian's heart skipped a beat and the playfulness he presented was replaced with worry. He had treated his own glasses with great care when he was with Akemi, and guarded them with his life. Akemi had found him silly, but he would do anything for his children, and thus he knew how important those breeding glasses were to the life on the isle. "Shall I accompany you on your search?" He asked serious now. "I would be more than happy to help you," he said, his smile returning.

Starla was at first confused and a bit off-put by Lucian's sudden laughter, but after a moment she relaxed. At least he wasn't mad at her, right? He was being so friendly now, too, that it was hard not to think that everything was simply alright with the world. If all lions were like this, than she ought to talk to them more often.
When her mind was re-focused on the matter at paw, she nodded in confirmation. She could see the worry in his eyes which likely mirrored her own, but she was also relieved. Thank goodness there was another lion who was just as concerned about the breeding glasses as she was. She let out a short sigh, her eyes lowering to where she had left the other lion. She didn't like leaving him by himself, but he had probably moved on by this point. There wasn't a point in going back for him, though she hoped they'd be able to meet up again later.
Lucian offered his help and her eyes moved up to his again, a smile upon her face. "Oh, yes please. That would be so wonderful." With a front paw, she gestured downstream to where the Crystal Springs ran into the ocean. "I've been following the Crystal Springs streams to see if any may've gotten pulled downstream from Marver's Hut. The center of the Springs hadn't any bottles, last I checked, so shall we follow it to the ocean for now?" She asked, looking back at Lucian for his take on things.

Lucian nodded, "Let's hope none went out into the ocean. That would be a tough search and a long flight. The ocean seems to go on for miles in all directions," he turned back over in a normal flying position. Moving up to fly next to her, as he had seen her relax, he glanced at Starla and noticed her necklace. "Where did you get that from? It's beautiful," he smiled as he gave the compliment and hoped he wasn't being nosy or giving the wrong impression.
He then turned his attention back to where he was flying, and nearly flew into a bird, but he dropped quickly, preventing the collision. "Oh my!" Lucian gasped, and his eyes were wide. "That would've been a messy crash," a bubble of laughter rose to the surface. "I have to say, that was a little exhilarating."

Starla shivered at the thought of any of the breeding glasses being swept out into the ocean, where all sorts of threats could await them. At this thought, she felt a rush of both anxiety for the glasses' safety and anger at Marver for losing them. Whether it had been that they were stolen by a dragon, or whether he had simply misplaced the lot of them, Marver was supposed to look after them! If he couldn't manage that much, he ought to at least take on an apprentice to share his craft, so that someone more responsible could take over. No matter, she had a firm resolve: She needed to find the breeding glasses before something harmful happened to them.
They set off towards the direction she'd indicated and were flying for a bit in silence, until Lucian mentioned her necklace, and her feathers ruffled a bit. She was always aware of its presence, but she hardly met any who commented on it. It was a pleasant surprise that someone was giving her necklace attention, and she was happy to share the story that came with it, however short it may be.
"It was my mother's." She informed Lucian, glancing over to him before directing her gaze to the horizon again, "She received it as a gift from my father, just before they became mates. He found it on Scrap Beach, and well, my mother had a passion for shiny things." She giggled at the memory of her mother, who would literally spend hours ogling over her collection of shiny trinkets that washed ashore, whether they be human things, sea glass, or precious crystals found around the island.
She would've gone on about its significance to her, when she noticed the bird up ahead and let out a cry of alarm. "Watch out!" She feared her warning would be too late, but Lucian dropped a few feet and the bird flew on, not even looking bothered with the encounter. She let out a shaky laugh along with Lucian, though she was still rather alarmed by the encounter. "Are you alright? You didn't get nicked by a talon or anything?" She asked him, concern showing in her eyes for the friendly lion.

"That is quite a story, and a lovely one at that," Lucian smiled as he got lost in the past for a moment, thinking of his lost mate. "Do you like shiny items too?" He asked curious. He'd never been one for jewelry, but on the right person it complimented their appearance, or perhaps was a keepsake with a story. Enjoying her voice and laugh, he nearly forgot to keep a lookout for the glasses and stared at the ground below, determined to find them and help her take them back to Marver.
"I am all right," Lucian said feeling no burn from a scratch or blood flowing from a wound. "I feared more for the bird than myself. It may have been injured severely if we had collided, with it being smaller than a lion, and I'd feel bad about it." Glancing over at her, he couldn't help but to want to spend more time with her. She was friendly and a warm presence to have, and he found, he could talk easy around her; no trying to think of words to say, or pretending to be someone he was not. Being himself was easy and nice for a change. "Do you have any family on the isle?" he asked thinking back to her necklace and the story she told of her mother and father.

Starla warmed at what Lucian told her in regards to the story behind her necklace. Then when she was asked on whether she liked shiny objects, she chuckled and shook her head. "Not nearly as much as my mother did." She replied with a smile and a distant look for a few moments, before she started to descend unintentionally and had to right the situation quickly. Once she was back on level with where Lucian was flying, she looked over to the green lion. He had just reported that he was unharmed and she was relieved to hear it.
She caught his gaze for a moment, when he glanced over at her and she smiled at him. "Well, I'm glad the both of you got out safely." Starla said, in reference to the almost-accident with the bird. She was still smiling until he asked her if she had any family on the isle. She dropped her gaze from his and suddenly became very focused on the ground below their wings.
After a long moment, she replied in a soft voice. "No, I don't." Another pause and then, "They're gone." She let out a small sigh and then she was smiling again, though her eyes were lonely and her voice had a strange sound to it when she asked, "What about you, Lucian? Do you have any family here?"

Lucian glanced over at her and saw an emotion flash in her eyes before she dropped her gaze, and he wanted to scoop her up and hold her. Wanted to tell her that her smile outshone the sun, and her eyes held a beauty to them that he could get lost in, but instead he waited for her to speak.
He fought against his want to protect her from what caused the light in her eyes to dull, and gave an inward sigh still watching her with concern in his eyes. At her question, Lucian gave a sad smile, "I had a family of my own once, but I was scared and ran away. Now I regret it, and I know that lioness won't want me back. Ever..... I was the second one to leave her," he admitted. "I love my children, and I try to keep in touch, but they're grown and have their own lives," he spoke with an overwhelming sadness and felt a tear escape and roll down his cheek. He had to be honest. Lucian wouldn't lie because he knew it would continue to cause hurt. "You don't have to be alone. I can be your friend," he said changing the subject and wiping away the tear.

He had a sad story and Starla was sorry to hear of it. It had rendered her speechless, up until the end, where he offered a friendship between the two of them. Even then, she found it challenging to find her voice. When she managed to speak, all that came out was, "I would like that." and then there was a stretch of silence, as she gathered her wits about her.
It was good, she thought, that she was able to find such a good lion in only a short amount of time, and she took comfort in this thought. Making friends, if all were as kind as Lucian, couldn't be very difficult. Maybe after they found the breeding glasses, she would aim to look for new friends. Goodness, she could even think of joining a tribe! Wouldn't that be exciting?
She didn't realize that she had become lost in thought, or that her eyes were no longer tinged with the sorrows of her past (poetic, I know.) It was only when a shimmering object close to the ground below caught the corner of her eye. Starla looked down to see an object on the beach reflecting the sunlight and to Lucian she suddenly piped up, "Lucian, there! Do you see it? Do you think it could be a glass?" Though she was already beginning to make her decent, hoping that she could get there before it was taken by the sea.

Lucian smiled as he heard her reply, and was relieved that she hadn't found him repulsive for his past mistake. His heart warmed and he felt the chill of fear dissipate in his chest, and breathed again, not realizing that he was holding his breath. Maybe with her, he could get over his fear of being around more than a single person at a time. Perhaps she would like to accompany him to one of the best lounge spots on the isle, and he would dare the crowd for her.
Lucian had been staring at Starla, a bright light in his green eyes, and glanced away when she spoke. His cheeks were tinged with a slight red, and hopefully she would think nothing of it. "I see it! Mayhaps it is!" he replied as he followed her descent. He stayed only slightly above and beside her; flying with her, and keeping pace.

Starla, who was far too fixed on the shiny, reflective object in the sand below, was too preoccupied with the thoughts of saving the breeding glasses to notice the redness of her company's cheeks. In her hurry to reach the shore, she pinned her wings to her sides and dove, unfurling them just before she hit the sand. It was a bad idea, of course, because as soon as her paws hit the ground the force of her landing propelled her forward and she somersaulted forward three times before she came to a halt. She had sand everywhere.
She got to her paws, shaking from the endeavor and spitting sand out of her mouth. After a brief moment, she turned around and waved a wing at Lucian as a notice that she was alright. It was true, for the most part. Her left front paw was a little sore, she must've twisted it, but the rest of her was only covered in sand, no harm done. She would just have to take an actual bath in a lake or something--she shivered at the thought.
Now... Starla thought, looking around as she waited for Lucian to land, Where was that shiny glass? She walked around the beach a bit before she came upon it. She had almost stepped on it, only to look down in the nick of time. Really, she had to be the queen of clumsiness.
She dug the object out of the sand, only to give a grand sigh. "It's not a breeding glass." She said with mixed disappointment and relief. This glass was cracked, but it was a piece of green sea glass. She looked from it to Lucian and then back again"It's the same color as your coat." She remarked, only to give Lucian a smile and a sideways glance as she added. "Though it's not nearly as handsome as you are."
Was it wrong of her to be talking to him like this? Would he think her stupid or ignorant or foolish? He had had a mate and a family once, while she had never experienced love before. She wasn't even sure if she was feeling lvoe now, either. She was attached to him, because he told her that he would be her friend, when no one else had before. He told her that she didn't have to be alone with him around. She believed him and trusted him easily, despite what he and told her and how they hardly knew each other. What a curious position she was in. However was she going to solve it? "I suspect we can head in another direction, since we didn't find anything here. Shall we travel down the beach for a bit, or is it back into the air with us?" She asked him, wondering what he would prefer.Silent~Wolf~Demon Shall we have them continue searching for a while longer? Or should I introduce another of my characters briefly, to inform them that the glasses have been found?
