Merikh and his group, just the three corporals and Yolana at least, were on a mission that he'd picked up. It was actually kind of exciting after reading over the letter they were given with the job request on it. It wasn't the same as leading an a bunch of troops into battle against the Mara but it was something that he felt would still be worth their time. Turning to glance first to the twins who were to one side of him, then to Igone and Yolana who were on the other side, he gave a smile and said, "I think this should work out well. Not only will we be able to help out our people but we should be able to get some good dragon orbs out of it as well. I don't know about the lot of you but I feel as though that is something to look forward to."
The Aiskala weren't Diabi, not by any stretch of the imagination, but he felt that they were getting closer and closer to a tribute that he felt was worthy of Lord Draco and the Dark Lady Souldana. He get stronger so he could find orbs worthy of them, though he knew of only one dragon that could give up such orbs. A shame that they were still a little bit out of his league at the moment. More training, more battles, more of everything and soon enough he'd be able to get his hands on the orbs of a Diabi once more. There was nothing more exciting then having something like that in hand, a feeling he looked forward to experiencing again one day soon.
The twins exchanged excited looks before Lory said, "Well, I am look forward to it. Not only to we get to go on a nice ship ride, given the best rooms on board, but we will also get to battle Aiskala dragons! You know normally you tend to only see them in Aisko you know!" He said, grinning up a storm.
"Yeah, to think that they were starting to attack ships now, how desperate are they for fun?" Valio said, giving a little snort before he turned to look over at Merikh and said, "Does the note say anything about how many dragons it is that we are going to be facing or why they are targeting ships?" He had to admit he was a bit curious about it all. It wasn't that he wasn't excited for the mission, he really was, but he was still curious.
Merikh have a shrug as he headed up and gangplank and onto the boat, "It doesn't say why, just that a 'large group of Aiskala lead by a one eyed female is gong after ships." He said, offering the paper to Valio to read over, as though he might catch something that Merikh himself had missed. There was a part of him that would be offended if it weren't for the fact that he was kind of curious himself.
"It's probably because of the Mara." Igone said, words that drew everyone's attention to him. He blinked a couple times, then laughed, "It makes sense, those damn Mara went rampaging about, they probably riled a lot of things up, dragons included. They were defeated, sure, but it's not like the world can bounce back from that immediately, right?"
Merikh considered the words of his archer before glancing at Yolana who have a half shrug, indicating that she didn't know or didn't care. He nodded then looked at the others, "As Yoyo so eloquently put it the reason probably doesn't matter. We know what we need to do, we need to take care of the Aiskala so that our ships can start to move again. He lost a lot enough due to those damn Mara, I am not going to let some upstart group of dragons add to the woes of our people." They would deal with them, take their orbs, and make sure the seas were made safe! First thing was first though, that being getting on the ship and getting the ship heading in the direction that the dragons always appeared in.
*****
Those aboard the ship, not counting those in Merikh's group, were minimal. The captain explained that they had only those aboard that were needed to sail, a minimal crew, to help cut down on anymore losses in case Merikh and his crew weren't able to do the job that they had been brought on to do. An insult if you asked him but he would let it slide if only because he knew that all they had to do was prove the man wrong by killing a few dragons. Once the group of dragons had been dealt with then the man would understand that Merikh and his crew weren't children, nor were they weaklings to be judged harshly by someone who didn't even know them.
Once their things were dropped up in the rooms they would be keeping the five of them headed out onto the deck, everyone armed, and on high alert. There was a time when Merikh was almost starting to think that the stories about rampaging Aiskala were just that, stories. That they weren't going to see anything... and then lo and behold, the first of the dragons appeared, coming toward the boat roaring all the while. Merikh looked up at the creature before he said, "Iggy, aime for the eyes, Lory and Valio, if it lands knock its legs out from under it, Yoyo, you're with me." He told them, giving out quick orders before taking his sword off his back.
The dragon's roar changed from a wild, angry one to one of pain as Igone's arrows hit their marks. The dragon was forced to land, though awkwardly, on the deck where the twins then moved in, knocking its front legs out from under it with their heavy weapons, before Merikh moved in to finish it off. The dragon was barely crumbling to dust when not one, but two more replaced the first one, "Nobody panic, just continue as I ordered you to." He said, flicking his sword to one side, knocking the dragon's blood free of it, before starting forward. Just as with the first one the second two really didn't take all that long for them to finish off as a group, the lot of them working together perfectly like clockwork. So long as they stuck together they would do fine.
As the two dragons started to crumble away Merikh lifted his gaze and he gave couldn't help but to stare, one eyebrow lifting, "Seems there are more dragons then the paper let on. No matter, we will just need to stick together is all. Everyone prepare yourselves and we will make it through this fine." Merikh wasn't sure how many of them were out there, a lot, but he would deal with them all, just as he'd promised.

The Aiskala were a rather dangerous sort of dragon, not to mention that they were sneaky as well. They were skulking around the edges of the boat, seeming to be preparing to strike whenever those who were aboard weren't looking. It seemed that almost every time that someone took a moment to relax that one of the icy dragons would lunge forth from the water or from the sky to snap at people, cast spells, and otherwise take shots at the group. It was a bothersome fight and yet something about this sort of battle actually had Merikh rather excited! He had been waiting for some time for a good fight, not having such a good fight since the fight against the Mara, and here was one to finally fill that void. Despite his delight thought he forced himself to remain calm. He didn't want to make a mistake after all.
Of course just as he was thinking this, as well as thinking about what they would need to do next to take care of the Aiskala problem a good sized one crashed down in front of him, causing the boat to shake, the deck cracking a bit, and its tail crashed into Merikh's midsection, sending the warrior flying. He flew backward, hit the railing, and was instantly going overboard toward the cold water... thought instead of hitting it he found himself hanging there midair. He glanced toward the darkness that was the water, then up toward the one that had hold of him by the ankle, and he gave a sighing sound of relief, "Lory." He murmured, giving a smile before he said, "Think that you can drag me up?"
"Yeah, I've got you, Merikh. Just hold on." He said, pulling on him, his brother Valio pulling on Lory, while Yoyo and Igone faced off against the big dragon, driving it off for the time being. As he was finally pulled back on board he sat there on the deck, his tail lashing, wings twitching, he looked at those before him, and gave a nod of his head, "Wow... that wasn't fun." He muttered to himself before he continued, "I thank you all for your quick actions. We will need to be careful, they aren't done yet." He said, and as though to prove that point another of the Aiskala arrived, landing, and came charging at the group of them.
Emotions a bit in flux at the moment Merikh pushed to his feet, drawing his sword, and took a swing at the dragon with it. It was a hard swing, maybe too much so, as he brought the blade down and lopped off the creature's head. It went rolling away, the two pieces crumbling apart before he said, "I doubt that was the last one, let's be ready for whatever comes next." He said as he walked over to where the orb had landed, easily sweeping it up into his hands, looking it over closely. There really was something beautiful about these orbs, not to mention something greatly exciting about the method of obtaining them. They were the bonus that came along with what they were already being paid for this job.
The orb was tossed to Igone and he said, "If you can tuck this away for us, Iggy?" With that he went to wiping down his sword, getting it cleaned up, before he looked around the area. They had taken care of a few of the Aiskala, but he knew the big female was still out there, meaning that they would need to deal with her before this was all over. Once they killed enough of her kind she would appear, meaning they just had to keep fighting. Luckily Merikh was willing to do just that.

Just as he'd suspected the leader of the Aiskala, a massive female with a lot of scars on her white hide, one eye missing, and some arrows stuck in her scales here and there but seemingly of no bother to her, appeared before them. She landed on the ship, causing it to actually sag a bit from her weight, before she gave a low, rumbling growl, her teeth barred at them. It was a sound that caused everyone on the ship to draw their weapons, the Captain and sailors as well just because it was such an intimidating sound. Even just a glance spoke of the power this one had, though the number of dragons that had come before her had done that as well. Her followers had been many, but the dragoness herself made the lot of them seem like children. It was a battle that would take everything that everyone had Merikh realized as he took a step forward.
"Alright, Lory, Valio, the two of you need to be on guard, but try if you can to cripple her legs." He said, "Yoyo, go for the remaining eye if you can, Igone help her, and the rest of you..." He looked around at the sailors and the captain, "If you can deal with the wings from a distance, do so, but your main task is to look after the captain and the well being of the ship. The last thing that we want is defeat her and get stuck out here before the ship is destroyed." Or the captain was killed... though he didn't say that last part out loud. He didn't want to upset anyone after all, not when they were in a bit of a precarious situation as it was.
Merikh moved his sword into a ready position before charging forward, the twins to either side of him, the battle beginning with a roar from the dragon and a battle cry from the Oblivionites that were fighting against her. It was a tough, drawn out battle against a difficult foe, but using the strength and skills of everyone involved they prevailed against the dangerous female. Not only saving themselves, but ridding this particular shipping route of a rather dangerous threat in the form of the female and her pack. It was a victory that they would celebrate upon returning home, that much was certain.
