IC
It wasn't uncommon for many places all over Tendaji to start specializing in beast breeding and training, preparing them for owners that would use them as mounts, or as partners in battles. And for whatever reason, Alassiel seemed to have stumbled upon such a place.
A little girl seemed to appear out of nowhere, the daughter of the establishment, and began to poke and prod Alassiel. Somehow she knew that Alassiel wanted to be a rider, claiming she could see it in her face. But now she needed to know what mount Alassiel was choosing. "It says a lot about a person, you know." The little girl pointed out with sass. Take herself for example, the little girl wanted to use a kinfa, because everyone knew kinfas were strong and fierce and could fly... and on and on the girl went, until Alassiel could give her an answer to her question and... why?
Quest Tasks
||. This quest is meant to get Alassiel thinking about what mount she will choose. ||. Alassiel doesn't have to stick to whatever she picks in the long run just because she chose it in a quest, just her thoughts on it at the moment. ||. The little girl will not leave her alone until Alassiel tells her what mount and why, even though the young girl is thoroughly annoying. ||. After discussing it, the little girl will offer to give her a baby familiar of the animal she chose. She can turn it down or accept it if she would like, it will not effect the outcome of the quest.

P A R T X O N E Runaway Child
A disgrace to the family? Surely not, but it was what had happened to Alassiel the day she had told her family that she would become a lancer and with it a rider. Her mother was the most upset of all, her father and older siblings as well as grandparents were a touch sad though she could see the pride in her father’s eyes as she defied her mother. Her younger siblings had really no notion of what was really happening except that their mother was screaming at her so the younger ones began to cry. Alassiel felt bad but she knew she was ready.
As soon as some of the snow had begun to melt away, Alassiel had packed her bags and taken Raysh with her in the wee hours of the morning. She did not want to trouble her family with goodbyes or create more seperation in the household. Alassiel wanted to get out and travel now, let her mother simmer off for a bit and return when she as ready and strong. Prove to her that she could do this. Alassiel didn’t like leaving her siblings behind but when she turned perhaps in a few years they would be able to understand her decision to leave. Until then, she dressed up warming, hiked up her bag and moved on with one last glance to the family tree.
There was one pit stop that Alassiel wanted to make as she trekked through Tendaji. Some of the elders had mentioned places that bred and trained but none of them could tell her exactly where she might find one. Whether it was part of her quest or not to find one of these places, Alassiel wanted to find one. She didn’t know much about mounts, she’d gathered bits and pieces of information but nothing concrete since she hadn’t wanted to draw attention to herself in case they started asking her why she wanted to know. Not though if she wanted to continue her journey and become a rider she needed to find one of these places.
Days into her journey though had proved to be fruitless and harder than Alassiel had thought. She’d been so used to her cozy home where her mother made food and siblings helped that it was a whole different story by herself. Providing for Raysh also seemed like a challenge, it made her rethink the whole being a rider thing. If she had trouble providing for one small familiar how would she fair providing for her mount? Still, she wanted to learn and know and she knew this place would be able to help her if she found it. Perhaps she would find answers if she found this place, only time would be able to tell on this one.
It was only after a week did Alassiel finally stumbled, and by complete accident too, on what she was looking for. Raysh had gone off in the middle of the afternoon without her and she’d had to run after him to try and grab him. He’d run off track and now was leading her in a completely different direction. When Alassiel had almost run into a fence did she notice the clearing she’d come upon and the many pens that neatly separated all the familiars. Alassiel spotted Raysh eating a few ways off and made her way over to him, poor guy hadn’t eaten in a while and ignored her completely then she tried to pull him away from the food. When Alassiel heard a voice, she froze and slowly turned around to come face to face with… A little girl?

P A R T X T W O The Messanger
“You know, we don’t feed the free loaders.” Alassiel continued to stare at the tiny little girl before her. Where had she come from?
“Staring is also quite rude too you know.” Grabbing onto Raysh, Alassiel tried to pull him away from his new found food source but it wasn’t working very well.
“How’d you find this place anyway?” The little girl asked.
“Sorry, listen I’m not here to bother anyone. I stumbled on it, well I mean I was looking for it and stumbled on it.” The little girl regarded Alassiel with a doubtful expression.
“No one just stumbles here; you want to be a rider don’t you?” The girl still had that dubious expression on her face.
“Well yes, but I’ll come back. This isn’t the introduction I was looking for.” Alassiel finally managed to get a hold on Raysh and pulled him away. The little girl continued to follow her though, watching her with curiosity now as if she was an object to be observed. Alassiel tried not to speak to her, she would return tomorrow with Raysh properly tied away and request the information she sought out and probably buy some food for Raysh too. Except that Alassiel lost her grip on Raysh and the Aldabuk ran right back to the food pile while the little girl laughed at her.
“You kind of suck at this don’t you?” The little girl pointed out as she kept stride with Alassiel.
“I’m still learning.” Came the reply through gritted teeth. “Would I be able to buy some food from you?”
“Sure and pay for what he’s eaten right? My daddy wouldn’t be very happy if you just let him eat everything and not pay. My daddy owns this place you know. My father was a rider and my mom breeds and trains mounts. I’m going to become a rider just like my daddy!” The little girl through her hands up into the air for emphasis on the whole story. Alassiel rummaged through the bags on Raysh and found what she was looking for. She handed the little girl some money and received a nod to say that it was indeed enough to pay for the food.
“Why don’t you let him eat here for now,” the little girl sat herself down on a tree stump. “What mount do you plan on using?” The little girl sung her legs as she stared down Alassiel.
“I’m not sure I haven’t given it a thought yet.”
“Well you should,” the little girl paused and became sassier. "It says a lot about a person, you know."
“So I am told…” Alasiel sighed and looked around at the animals.
“So?” The child inquired.
“So what?” Alassiel crossed her arms annoyed, Raysh needed to eat faster.
“What mount are you going to get?”
“I don’t know yet. I thought I’d made that clear?” Could this girl not annoy her like this?
“Well I’m going to get a kinfa because everyone knows kinfas are strong and fierce and can fly. They’re also really pretty and colorful, kind of like me. So you know, you should really give it a thought. It’s important. Really important for a rider.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“You know, maybe you haven’t thought about it because you don’t know what the mounts are?” Alassiel gave her a pointed stare but the girl kept on talking. “There’s the Radaku, Kinfa, Mammu, Raptrix, Janarim, Xaraan, Snapptrotter, and a Bushi.”
“You really want me to give you an answer right here, right now?”
The little girl shrugged but gave Alassiel a smile. The shifter rubbed her face and sighed.
“Alright then.”

P A R T X T H R E E Choices
The mount Alassiel was most familiar with was the Radaku. Almost all of the riders she had seen from her tribe road them and this was the choice she had thought she would make. Even as she thought about it now she did not think that she would change her mind any time soon. They were native to her lands and were not too big that they would need a lot of space or food. Sure maybe she would not be able to fly on its back like some of the other mounts, but she liked the feel of the ground under her feet anyway. She only needed to find one young enough she could train or otherwise she would be out of luck in that department.
The idea of having a Kinfa as a mount, like the little girl wanted, was completely out of the question for her. The things were overly colourful and birds. She would be able to travel by air but would not be able to travel by land and she just did not quite like the idea of that. Granted they had few predators in the air on the ground they were targets. Moreover, she would have to worry about being stranded somewhere if there were high winds and she did not like the idea of being pierced by an arrow. No a Kinfa would certainly not make a good mount for Alassiel.
Another beast that was just not on her “maybe” list was the Mammu. The things were just much too gentle to make suitable mounts for… Anything really. If she was attacked, the thing might provide some protection but it did not look like it could do much, not like a Radaku anyway. There was also the problem with traveling. With one of them Alassiel would have to travel through open roads where it could fit which meant she could not take short cuts. It could not fly but even if it could fly Alassiel wouldn’t want one even then. A Radaku still seemed like the most suitable mount so far.
Perhaps the one mount that Alassiel would not mind, maybe, having was the Raptrix. They were large, seemed loyal; they resembled a Radaku except with wings and feathers. She thought they were the only contenders to the Radaku in her mind. Still, those wings… She did not like the looks of them. A Raptrix looked like it could travel well on the ground but even better in flight. A rider might say this as the perfect mount really, but Alassiel still held her doubts. She was sure the sleek physic of a Radaku moved much better in the jungle, which is ultimately, what she wanted anyway.
There was another mount that picked Alassiel’s curiosity. She did not really know what to make of them since she had only seen one once and it was in passing. The Janarim was scary looking, nothing like the Radaku who could pass as quite friendly. Though she knew that the Janarim was all about strength, if she wanted speed, she would not receive it from the Janarim. Allassiel did like the thought of having speed over strength, she knew she would not be an all-powerful warrior but speed would be her ally. Again, she would not obtain what she wanted from the Janarim. Her preference really was for the Radaku and Alassiel did not think thinking about what mount she wanted would change that.
Alassiel had spotted some Xaraan also being used as mounts. He only ones she had seen though were the ones used to as message couriers. She had heard they were probably one of the fastest animals around and thus why they were used as such. Alassiel wanted speed but this mount did not look like it could really stand against either a Radaku or a Raptrix. No, her first choice was still far better than this unless she wanted to become a courier of some kind and that was definitely not what she wanted to be. She was starting to feel a distinct dislike for anything that was birdlike or even resemble a bird to use as a mount.
Perhaps to please her parents further Alassiel would try to go for a Snapptrotter. Actually, she had not really given this mount much thought before since she had been pretty set on a Radaku from the start. But in reality a Snapptrotter would be an excellent mount for her. She had a trident after all and she was still going to keep to the fishing traditions of her family. These could climb almost every single thing put in their path and could probably navigate water better than almost all the other mounts. They were fast too; Alassiel had seen one in action. Maybe this would be the best option for her…
Alassiel felt that the Bushi, much like the Mammu, was one of those useless mounts. They were fat and slow and definitely not even on her radar. Alassiels thoughts returned to the Snapptrotter instead. It would be able to protect itself well, it was cast, could climb almost anything and it was great on land and water. It had no wings and did not even close to resemble a bird. Really, she didn’t see any negatives except that she’d attached herself to a Radaku for so long… A snapptrotter would be the better option for her; Alassiel knew this and felt it.
With a nod of her head, Alassiel focused on the little girl again. She had made her decision. It had not been an easy one to make, she really was attached to the idea of a Radaku but a Snapptrotter made so much more sense for her and who she was. She still had time to think about it, she knew she was not ready yet to take on the training of her mount. Alassiel was determined though; she knew she wouldn’t change her mind after this. There was just no way.

P A R T X F O U R Garyer
“Well. I thought about it. I wanted a Radaku for the longest time but…” The little girl perked up at this news.
“But a Snaptrotter seems like such a better option for me.” Alassiel began to pace. “First of all I don’t want and never want to get anything that was bird like. I came to realize that I like my feet solidly on the ground and nothing if going to change that. So while I did like the Raptrix I just could not get over the fact that I would have to fly and that is just no for me.” Perhaps flying would be for someone else, but it was not for Alassiel. In addition, she enjoyed land and water and she wanted a mount that would be best suited for both of those things.
“Then I completely culled out of my mind the mounts I found to be ridiculously useless for me. Those that would be too large or too gentle. Those that would offer little protection and I knew I wanted something that was fierce.” If she could not get around what was the point of getting a mount? Maybe if all she wanted to do was travel and see the world those animals would have been the best choice for her but they were not and she wanted to do more than simply see the world. She wanted to help shape it too.
“That pretty much left me with two good choices Radaku and the Snaptrotter. I was really intent on a Radaku. I thought they were exactly what I was looking for in very way. Then you had me thinking about all this and the Snaptrotter really caught my attention. My family are fishers and my weapon of choice is a trident, water is part of my life how could I forget about it? Snaptrotter will give me all I wanted from the Radaku but also water. As much as I hate to admit it, my family will always be part of me and help shape who I am. Snaptrotter it is.”
Raysh had finished eating and the little girl was bobbing her head.
“I think it’s a perfect fit,” the little girl said with seriousness. “I mean, the Snaptrotters are very good parents, strong family bonds. They fish and you seem to be in the fishy business so I think they are really the best mount for you. See, if you hadn’t thought about it, you would never had made this amazing discovery.”
“Yea you’re right,” Alassiel rubbed the back of her head. “Well, I should get going. Still have much to see.”
“Ah hold on! I have a gift for you.” The little girl ran off and left Alassiel thinking and still pondering this new revelation. When the little girl returned, cradled in her arms was a Snaptrotter sleeping in a tight little ball.
“This is it; you can’t go back if you decide to take him.”
“Wait what? You’re giving me one?” Alassiel stared at the little girl incredulous who in return gave her a stern nod.
“Yes. So pick.” The little girl extended her hands out towards Alassiel, the baby woke up and yawned eyeing Alassiel with a lazy expression. The Shifter did not hesitate anymore; she gently took the baby out of the young girl’s arms and cradled him. He went back to sleep clutching her arm and she couldn’t help but smile.
“It’s a him so what do you plan on naming him?” Alassiel thought about it for a little.
“Garyer, I think I’m going to name him Garyer.”
“Good name, you go on now. I am sure you have many adventures to take care of. See you later rider!” The little girl waved and ran off back home leaving Alassiel with her new mount.
This was the start of something amazing.
