Quote: Time: Afternoon, the opening of today's festival Weather: Slight snow fall, a bit chilly! Location: Winter Solstice Celebration in the Isle Center
Prompt:
Quote: During the Winter Solstice Celebration, Snow has fallen, and a blanket of fresh snow has been layered upon the Isle Center. Decorations have been put of and the celebration is now open again today! But wait!? WE NEED HELP! It seems that your characters have somehow been put to help run vending stands! Teamed up together, your characters encounter so many ulayas! But this time, this stand... is selling interesting trinkets. The Ulaya who owns it is rather old and needs all the help she can get she says- but so far. Nothing is moving..... Instead, the NPC That you can play- while you wait for customers tells you an interesting tale about a Goddess who saves her daughters with her very last breath. The tale is of an epic battle between Darkness and light that your characters seem to have been determined to help sell as much as possible! But to the right owners! Despite the story- slowly the lil stand begins to get busy and oh and behold! It seems like the old ulaya does need all the help!

Quote: At the end of the day- when all the vendors start to pack up. The old Ulaya seems to admire the two of your characters. Then says- they may pick one item each. But an item that speaks to them. "Happy new year..."

Jared Grey along with his friends Ivy Jade and Titian had come down to volunteer to help with the Winter Solstice Celebration. Everything was set up and the grounds were open, but Jared and Ivy were a little down since their friend Titian had been injured helping set up the beautiful lighted ornaments.
"Cheer up you two," said one of the head organizers as he led them toward the vendors area where they'd be working. "Your friend will be fine. Let's find you a good place to get your mind off of things. Ah yes, this seems a likely spot and the good lady will likely need some help with all of this..."
"Oh, yes. Extra paws to assist are very welcome," came the slightly creaky voice of old ulaya seated under the canvas tent. All around her on tables and blankets were assorted trinkets, fabric items and accessories.
The organizer grinned and left Jared and Ivy to get to know the lady they'd be helping and her merchandise. The wide variety of items had the pair almost as overwhelmed as they were by the growing crowds in attendance.
"Is.. is there anything we should know? Any theme to all of these?" Ivy finally ventured to ask. They'd need a selling point, a pitch if they were to be more than just able bodies able to get around all of it and allow the vendor to rest.
"What you see before you is the collection of years. My mate and I were travelers and collected all of this," she explained looking lovingly around her. "Each piece has memories, but you see my mate is gone now and our children gone their own ways having already claimed their own memories from the trove. I figure by bringing these here to the Celebration new ulaya can form new memories with these well loved trinkets from my past."
The young volunteers looked around again with new eyes, taking in each item. Definite talking points in the uniqueness of each and every one of them and they could probably go to the owner for a story to hook a potential buyer if needed. Of course, what they needed were customers. So early in the day there were only a few casual browsers.
Ivy finally managed to sell one embroidered cloak and a floral broach to someone looking for a gift for their mother. "Oh the cloak is lovely and do you happen to have your mother's eyes because these tones just make the color pop." Lucky guess there. "And what's a fine cloak without a broach? It's like these were made to be a set."
"Wonderful, wonderful sale's skills, deary," the old ulaya praised. "Those items were both gifts from my own daughters once a upon a time. Oh my girls, I almost lost them in the most tragic of circumstances...."
"Oh, what happened?" Jared asked, joining them after having sold a set of colorful wooden building blocks to a new father and a sling to help carry the new babies.
A storyteller as well as a traveler she took up the tale while Jared and Ivy listened, taking turns to deal with the still casual flow of customers. It was an amazing tale of Light and Dark and two adventurous girls caught in the middle and saved in the end by love and sacrifice...
The story drew in more of a crowd, and when it was revealed some of the treasures from that journey were among the trinkets the frenzy began. With Jared and Ivy acting as organizers and go betweens more tales were told and items changed paws with the customers prizing the item as well as it's story.
Ivy was loving matching customers with the perfect items.
Jared was thrilled with the stories, "But remember though it's already been a part of a tale, it's future tales are in your paws," he reminded a young male who was purchasing a jewel box -- washed up on the beach, from across the sea -- for his newly won mate. The old grandmother ulaya smiled brightly at those words, it was exactly what she intended.
The day was hectic and they were kept busy, but it was full of joy. They'd wondered at carrying on as volunteers after their friend had been injuried, but they were both glad that they had. They listened to stories and shared some of their own with the owner and the customers. "Oh I had a toy just like this growing up..." and a wooden fish on wheels changed hands while memories were shared.
"Well it looks like everyone is starting to pack up, for the night." Ivy observed as the sun began to set. "We can help you get this secured."
"Oh that's sweet of you dear. You've really been the best help for an old lady, and wonderful company. Each blanket of items goes into the trunk behind it, and the tables fold up into cases," she instructed. "Oh and while you go doing all that why don't you each pick out something for yourselves. As I've said you've been such a help to me."
"Oh but we couldn't," Jared replied surprised by the offer. "Helping is it's own reward after all."
She chuckled, "See there you go so sweet. Please it'll make an old lady happy for you to have something."
And so Ivy and Jared packed everything away, pulling a couple items aside before coming together to make their final choices. Ivy had found a pair of jade bracelets carved with ivy, perfect since her name was Ivy Jade. Jared's choice was a warm winter scarf in golden brown and grey with a zigzag pattern, a practical item it also suited his coloration. Among the items were things they'd pulled with their friend Titian on their mind.
"We'd like to purchase something for our friend Titian as well," Ivy said bringing the chosen items over to the old ulaya for her approval. For Titian they'd gone with something pretty but less showy than Ivy's chosen bracelets. It was a copper bracer also engraved with leaves, made for the front leg it could also be worn as a tail cuff for those ulaya like Titian with longer tails. "It should fit over the bandaging she has bracing her sprain and help keep it in place and not look so awkward. We'll get her out of the healer's tent to have some fun."
Choices approved and payment agreed on for Titian's gift the day ended with everyone satisfied. "Have a wonderful time you two, and do make time to actually enjoy the Celebration! Happy Solstice."
"We will, thank you. You as well. Happy Solstice!"
