PRINCESS ISLAND

General Information
Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.

There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.

These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.

If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves.
If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.

    Mechanics
  • Your princess has 20 hp
  • First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.

    Brick: 4 d12
    Wood: 8 d6
    Hay bales: 12 d4

The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.)
  • Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess.
    Example:
    My defenses are 5/6/8/10
    The attackers are 3/7/3/8

    The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2
Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP.
  • Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP.
  • Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.

  • Trainees: 0 hp bonus
  • Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path
  • Hunters: +1 hp to each path
  • Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

To: Dylon
I'm here - where are you?

Dylon was quickly becoming (had already become?) Horace's go-to man for training. He was up for almost anything almost all the - more if it included a girl. And this sort of did! Well, the training course for moons included a princess golem, which really, wasn't all that bad - or Horace had hoped. And Dylon was a moon anyway.

Behind him came a soft whine and a scuffle of feet. Horace turned to stare at the princess. <********>, this was never not going to be horrifying. For some unfathomable reason, their princess had been outfitted in a gown that was obviously meant for a petite woman and thusly, was distinctly two inches shy of being inappropriate. Horace pinched the bridge of his nose with one hand. The other hand, of course, snapped a picture. Those knobbly knees were going to haunt him.

He snorted. This meant there was likely some poor tech who likely had to go buy dresses - discount - and outfit the princesses. Damn, but that sounded like a thankless job.

Dylon grinned the whole way there, jogging up to Horace within the Princess Island facility. "Yo buddy! What delicious princess are we gunna---YIKES!" That was NO princess! It was also no woman. Or lady. Or... good LORD.

"That's got to be the ugliest looking Princess I've seen." And they needed to protect her. This would make motivation difficult. Taym!Golem whined and groaned, and was an otherwise annoying damsel to be sure.

"Welp... buddy. Guess we should get this party started. Let's uh... let's start with a wood fence..." Dylon's expression of mild horror and morbid curiosity was etched comically on his face, slowly moving away from the golem; barely able to pry his eyes away. It occurred to him that somehow Life Techs knew what all hunters looked like naked if they made bodies like this. That or they really hated Taym enough to give him terrible looking legs.

"You can choose materials in round two, alright?" He called out, happily collecting and building with his training buddy.

"Damn, I know right. Knobbly knees ain't a good look in that dress." He tried not to look at Princess Taym a lot - he hadn't met the actual hunter in person, just over twitter. "Jug ears" was surprisingly apt.Horace hummed as he worked, finding something soothing in the menial work that was building. Of course, he'd never done it before and he smashed his thumb twice and ended up with numerous splinters, but that didn't dim his enjoyment.

They worked quickly together, finishing a suitable fence. Princess Taym walked over and kicked one before crossing his arms and stalking back to the middle of the island. Horace watched,, flabbergasted, as the princess promptly sat down on his butt in the dirt. "Uh... I can't say it's unrealistic...." Turning, he jogged back to the observation platform.

Princess Taym crushed the pill and flopped on his back, waiting to be taken. The shadowlings swarmed down each path and systemically threw themselves onto the fence section until each one gave out. "Well, s**t," Horace said, watching as Princess Taym kicked at one. "You wanna try hay?"

Dylon stood with Horace at their observation point. The young man was crossing his arms, and looking unto the blunder of their fence with scrutiny. They'd gone wrong somewhere.

"Yeah, let's try it. They're thicker than wood, right?" Maybe a fence had been a poor idea after all. The shadowlings were trickier than he imagined. "Sorry Taym! We'll try harder this time!" He called out, cupping his hands around his mouth.

Princess Taym flopped him off while still lying in defeat on the ground. "Wow. Rude."

"This princess is just as sunshiney as the real thing. Wow. Why couldn't we have gotten a hot one?" Horace pulled a face at Dylon before he began to drag hay bales into place. Though, while he was sure Jan would look killer in a dress, Horace wasn't sure he wanted to see that.

Turning, he bumping into Princess Taym, who had decided, for whatever reason, to follow him around like some horrible shadow. "Shoo! Go sit somewhere." The golem shook his head vigorously, earrings sparkling as they swung.

"I know right?" There were so many sexy ladies on the island. Was this some kind of joke?

Dylon couldn't help chuckling at Horace's straggler while they worked. He himself had the freedom of no little ducklings while stacking the hay. "Okay! Let's try this out." He grabbed Horace's arm and ran with him to the observation tower. He was excited to see the new plan in action.

"Initiate!" He watched with a sparkle in his eye as their defences worked perfectly. "Success!"

"Hell yes! Highfive!" He held his hand out to the other man.
"D'you wanna try brick next or do hay again or...?" He jogged back to the defenses, looking over them closely. Out of nowhere, Princess Taym popped up with a groan and leaned on Horace, poking him soundly in the ribs before moving a short distance away. Horace walked a few steps to the right and Taym narrowed his eyes and followed, pink fripperies trailing in the dirt. Horace moved to the left... it followed. He groaned.

"Oh my god, Dylon, help me."

The high five was met with a vigorous high five in return. Hell yes indeed! They were kicking a** and taking names. Building and defending was definitely the place to be for Dylon. He rather liked this exercise.

Princess Taym was once again on Horace's heels. Dylon snickered with a grin. "No, I'd rather not. This is too funny. Just be glad I'm not recording this. And believe me, I really wish I was recording this."

"Let's go wiiiiith.... hay. I mean, I'm strong but I don't really want to waste my time hauling bricks to and fro."

"Arms strong as noodles, maybe." Horace huffed and tried to dodge the golem as it suddenly careened into him. Tried. "This would piss Taym off so badly if he knew." But Horace got down to business. In short order, the hay was hauled and stacked. Princess Taym continued to dog Horace's heels and he wondered what damn tech thought they were being funny in programming it to follow him. If they were programmed. He really needed to look into that. With a shove, he pushed Taym into the dirt and ran back to the observation deck as fast as his legs could carry him. The princess sat there, mouth open in silent outrage. He flipped it off.

The shadowlings swarmed up, faster than before, but he noted with satisfaction, that not one reached the princess. The Princess, who sit sat on his bony tush where Horace had pushed him. "Not bad, Dylon! Somehow I think hay works."

"Pardon me?" Dylon laughed, shoving Horace playfully. Get him in the water and Dylon knew he could out swim him, at least.

After watching with held breath, seeing their barricade hold brought much relief. "Maybe they're allergic to hay? We may be on to something." Dylon smirked while stroking his chin. "Let's do it again!" Maybe it was pushing their luck, but it just seemed to work very well.

Princess Taym was being sulky as always, but they got the hay up for another round. Leaning on the railing of the observation deck, Horace watched as shadowlings tore through two of the barriers. He began to hum.

Build me up, buttercup baby
before you let me down~

"D'you think golems feel pain?" Although, even if they did, Horace wasn't sure he cared.

Dylon's reaction to the near bloodshed involved less humming. One arm crossed around his middle, his free hand cupping his mouth in mild horror. "That did not go swimmingly..." He murmured with eyes fixated on a dishevelled looking princess. But at least it was still alive.

Horace's question was met with a look of horror directed at the younger man. "Oooooooh I hope not. That'd just be... morbid." Wo would program a golem to feel pain?

Maybe they ought to check on the princess... Dylon gave a sigh and left the tower to check on their princess. P!Taym, up close, looked even worse. "And here I thought he couldn't be an uglier..." An ear fell off, and Dylon squeaked while jumping a foot into the air.

"Ew!"

"Yeah, pretty morbid... Well, once more into the breach!" With that, Horace was off. They had one wave left. The princess just had to hold on for that long. The ear fell off and it whined pitifully. Horace stuck out a hand and patted it on it's head, noting the receding hairline. "It's ok, buttercup, I'll try to do better." Princess Taym responded by thumping into Horace. He looked up, bewildered, at Dylon, then shrugged.

Time for more hay bales.
