"There is a kindness you can do for me, though. I want you to carry a message to Kairatos of Mars -- I understand he's here. Tell him I'm fine. Tell him I said to stay the course. Will you do that?"

It was a simple request from a woman who had suffered much at the hands of people Persephone might once have called "family." To carry Hver's message to Kairatos was the smallest kindness she could manage, and she could manage one for him as well, because before she even stepped into his cell she had called on the gentle power of her magic crystal flower, and pink mist flowed from it as she stepped inside.

She had to press a hand to her mouth to muffle a gasp of horror, and nearly lost her hold on the concentration to use the damn thing when she saw the badly beaten figure in front of her.

"Oh," she said, her voice small and quiet, but she forced herself to look, to memorize, because this was what the Negaverse did, and if Kairatos's beaten, battered form haunted her nightmares, then she deserved every single one.

It took him a second to register the presence in the room, another second to remember what had happened last time someone was there... and the burst of panic worked better than caffine.

It wasn't her again, and he wasn't on display like a piece of beef...though he was entirely unsure about the pink mist drifting from the crystal flower in her hands.

He wasn't even sure he could put a finger on her, but that might have been exhaustion from being drained, and the deep ache that hung over him all the way to his star seed... though if he wasn't entirely loosing his mind it was... less intense than it had been, fading even.

He narrowed his eyes at her warily, trying to shake loose the name from his foggy thoughts. She looked a little like Kerberos, but the hair was wrong, and she was... well... she. And no little flowers everywhere.

"Let me guess. You've got questions." He growled, his voice still raspy. What was this? Good cop, bad cop?

At least she couldn't have a youma with her, not that he knew of.

"Don't waste your time, I was done buying what the Negaverse had to sell a while ago."

She looked so upset, standing there, he actually felt guilty about the distrusting snarl, but he just didn't know]. SHE could have been behind it. It might be another trick, setting him up to be more vulnerable the next time she decided to carve bits out of his skin.

He felt like a kicked junkyard dog that had woken up from a dream of being in a safe home only to find himself back behind wire gates surrounded by rot and hate. It was already damn difficult to trust even the most gentle looking gesture, lest it be followed by a swift kick.

"No questions," Persephone assured him gently, taking a few careful steps closer. God, he definitely needed what little relief she could provide, that was obvious enough. "Well, one question, I guess. You're Kairatos of Mars, right? I'm Persephone."

She already knew, but she was asking as a politeness, to be sure. "...That's not a trick. I promise." She sat down, as if that might further showcase her goodwill, setting the flower in her lap and resting her hands on either side of it. "I'm here with a message. From Hvergelmir."

She would let him digest that, and also let him have a little of her pain relief in silence. He certainly didn't need her chatting his ear off, not right now.

"Hvergelmer?" He jumped at the reference, clearly concerned.

Persephone? He should know that name, damnit. He was sure he'd heard it somewhere, and he didn't mean passing references to mythology. "How is she?"

If this one was a trap it was a good one, he jumped and couldn't help it. Even though she said it wasn't...

He was feeling better. Maybe it was the flower, and maybe it would cost later when all the hurts came back, but god it was a relief right now.

"Is she alright?"

Persephone felt a sharp stab of guilt at the eagerness with which he jumped to Hver's name. God, he would not be pleased to see the state she was in. The Corrupt stared down at the flower in her lap, no longer able to meet Kairatos's eyes.

"She's alive," she said, which was a very different answer from 'alright,' but it was all she could offer. Hvergelmir was not alright, none fo their captives were, and none of them were likely to be until they were released or corrupted or rescued.

(She was tempted, sometimes, to try carrying them all out herself, but she wouldn't get very far at all and she knew it.)

"She asked me to tell you that she's fine, and that she said to stay the course."

"Fine." He snorted with wry laughter, not believing it for a second... but she was well enough to at least pass along a pleasant lie, and that was something. "I haven't lost sight of my North Star." He promised. "You can tell her that."

He hoped not to loose sight of it no matter what happened, but that might be excessive optimism under the circumstances.

"You'll understand if I ask you to tell her the same..."

It was too much to ask if she had a key, if she had... well...he doubted she'd use it anyway. She had no way of knowing if he would turn on her any more than he did of her.

Persephone nodded, and she smiled faintly. It was sweet, in its way, how obviously these two cared for each other. "I'll tell her," she promised. It was the best she could offer, to carry messages between those locked in this horrible prison.

"Is there anything I can bring you? Food, water?" She could not offer an escape, no matter how much she wanted to. She had her own machinations in the works, and no matter how much she wanted to flee with them to freedom, the Negaverse could not be hunting her as a traitor when they fell into place. She would risk far too many people beyond herself if that were the case.

"You could drop a hint next time you go out stealing energy..." he suggested, though his expression said he suspected he knew this was unlikely. Food sounded good... no... food sounded amazing, and he almost bit his lip just thinking about it... but what would it even do? fuel him to stay alive to be corrupted?

"...I'd offer to chip on on a pizza but I'm a little tied up at the moment." He joked wearily, trying to lighten the mood slightly, because he could, because he was exhausted, starving, and it was more exhausting being angry and afraid.

"I don't go out stealing energy," Persephone said, her voice quiet. She hadn't for a long time, because she had shut herself up in Gabriel's old apartment and avoided powering up and avoided everything because avoidance was better.

(She had drowned a lot of time in video games. Thank God for new, well-timed releases.)

"I'm not sure I can order pizza to be delivered here, anyway, but I might have some leftovers in my apartment I could try to sneak in?" Takeout was how she survived, mostly, because she was very good at not wanting to go places. It was also probably why despite powered activities, she was stubbornly pudgy. "It might be a little difficult, though, there are lots of guards and I don't think we're supposed to feed you. Uhm."

"No... no." He gestured vaguely from the wrist, with his limited range of motion to dismiss the pizza thing. No sense getting someone else lynched, especially with Schorl on the ******** loose.

"I... used to." He admitted. He remembered chasing Ixion through the underside of the seats. I'm the goddamn boogie man.

Yeah he'd had no damn idea what the hell the boogie man was like until this capture.

"Of course I don't remember this being policy either."

He remembered what had happened to those who had tried to put their foot down and refuse alliance with Ares though. He hadn't been among the tortured, but he remembered the eyes of people who had been. He wondered if his would look like that if he got out of here.

"I thought things were ugly when I left. Maybe I was the fool Zinkenite thought I was."

"I used to, too." Persephone said, and she shrugged. She had given up on it, because she knew the energy was not going to anywhere noble or good or worth donating to.

"This isn't policy. It's no policy anybody told me about before I signed on, at least. Or after. Or literally any time until here I was, and people were being tortured." There was a thick layer of bitterness in her voice. "Zinkenite was the one who brought me in too. I don't..." Her shoulders sank.

"Did they all lie to me?" She asked, and she stared at Kairatos with what could only be called a painful, pleading expression.

"I think they told you what you needed to hear." There wasn't a way to sugar coat it, and she didn't want that anyway. "When he he came to me, he came to a very angry man shaking his fist at the world and offered him the power to enact 'justice' for every wrong I imagined had been done to me. Then he turned me loose with so little idea of what I was doing that as a Lieutenant I directly attacked an Senshi Royal. He whipped an angry starved dog into a frenzy and set him loose to do as much harm as I could. I saw them punish people for not wanting an alliance with the freshly corrupted Blood Moon Court. I saw them throwing lives down a hole and nothing coming from it except a demand for more. The only thing true here is Schorl. She's everything the negaverse really is. Pain. Suffering. And Death, all for their own sake. But they wrap it up nicely and package it up so that it sounds like you're getting everything you ever wanted, and hope you don't notice until you're too far down it's throat for your little kicking feet to make much difference."

Persephone nodded, sadly. That sounded correct - of course they would tell her what she wanted to hear, because Chaos wanted as many souls as it could take hold of. Because Metallia wanted as many little drones as she could sink her claws into. Because it didn't matter what it did to the people they held - and because, Persephone was sure, she was eminently replaceable in the eyes of the Negaverse.

"Thank you for being honest with me," she said. She bit the inside of her cheek. "This is going to seem poorly-timed, but I'm going to have to stop the magic - I only have a little a day, and I need to check on other people, too. I'm sorry," she said, as the fog began to dissipate. "But I can come back, and check on you again, I hope?"
