A soft sob escaped as pain shot up her front leg, causing her to stagger to a halt. Settling her thin rump against the chill of the cold, damp rock she hung her head, dark eyes closing as she struggled to accept the pain.
One more step. She told herself yet again, refusing to look back over her shoulder at the procession of reddish paw prints that stretched out behind her back up the rocky trail.
One more step. Shifting her screaming limb forwards she pressed the raw paw pad to the rocky path, wincing as fresh blood bubbled up between her toes. Gritting her teeth she forced herself to take that step, her front leg shaking as it struggled to bare her weight, no matter how slight and frail she was.
Sucking in a weak breath as the pain flaired she closed her eyes and refused to stop, limping badly as she made her way painfully forwards.
She wanted to see Tendaji. She had to see him. Before she lost it and attacked Ragnvard just so he would end the constant pain.

He'd gone looking for her. He needed to find her, to see her. His mind was racing with the possibility of her injuries. Since that day he'd first seen her, he couldn't shake the princess from his mind. She had stuck in his mind like an illness, only these came with symptoms he shamefully enjoyed.
She wouldn't be hard to find, not with her light coat like his. He'd just need to be careful. Too much time spent with one-another might make things seem a little ... sordid. Besides, he shouldn't think of it in such a way, for all he knew, she could feel indifferent to him. She seemed wary. Yes, be careful, that was it.
He could see her, and a pang of fear ran through his chest. Aoife looked weak, yet again, and he wasted no time in being cautious. Glancing around quickly to survey the scene, he bounded towards her, a different kind of pain obvious in his eyes.
"Aoife."

The voice calling her only slowly pierced the haze of pain that had decended. Slowly she realised the voice wasn't just in her head but actually existed outside herself. Staggering to a stop she turned her head, blinking hazy eyes up at the blur before her, waiting for it to form into someone recognisable.
Finally her gaze focused, coming back to the real world around them and she blinked up at the large white male.
"Tendaji?" Her weak voice was surprised and yet filled with hope at seeing him. "Tendaji? Is that you...?" Moving away from the rock wall she had been using to support herself she took one staggering step towards him, ignoring the blood smears she left behind her, desperately needing to know he was really there, that he was real. Close to collapse she leaned heavily into his chest, eyes closing as a great heaving sigh shuddered from her abused body. Relief taking place of pain as his warmth surrounded her.
"I wanted to see you again..."

He felt her heaviness against him, though she were only light and frail. A different type of heaviness seemed to settle in his bones as he checked her body carefully. Bruising and more blood, it would appear. Ragnvard made his blood boil, and yet it would be considered incredibly foolish to outright try and kill him. The captain was a large lion, and Tendaji did not want to face punishment. What kind of use would he be to Aoife then?
"It is me, Aoife, yes, it is." His normally rough voice was transformed into something soft and smooth, trying to ease her into comfort as he nuzzled her head and neck gently. Warmth seemed to spread around his body and face, though sorrow still lingered in his expression. A sickening but joyful feeling seemingly swept his stomach aside when he realised.
He was falling for a thrall, for someone else's thrall.

Leaning closer into his reassuring warmth she relaxed, letting the pain and fear seep away from her as his strength made her feel safe. His soft voice easing the cold knot of terror in her chest until she was near boneless against him.
Lifting her head she returned his gentle touch, eyes closing as she buried her muzzle in his thick mane, heaving a grateful sigh as she snuggled close. He made her feel safe and secure, gave her the strength to continue despite the poor treatment she suffered under Ragnvard.
After a long moment she opened her eyes, gifting the large white male with a tender smile. "I'm glad you found me." A delicate flush of colour warmed her pale cheeks as she gazed up at him. He intrigued her, he was so strong and yet so gentle, she felt captivated by him and didn't know how to react.

She was so delicate, so gentle. He wanted to wrap himself around her to stop her from breaking. Aoife seemed like she was made of glass, so beautiful and yet so fragile.
He could feel his soul growing gentle as he neared her, and it was a side of himself he had not explored before. He hadn't intended to find it among all the determination and fighting he expected in his new pride, and it had taken him by surprise.
"I am glad I found you too." Tendaji leaned closer to Aoife, trying to keep her safe, warm... happy. His voice was a little hoarse. What was he doing? Meeting someone else's thrall? Shouldn't he be barking orders too as a member of this pride? No, surely not... Whatever he was, he couldn't help it..

Closing her eyes again she settled against the white male. He felt like home, and she could almost imagine that the last year had never happened. That she was still safely tucked away in the land of her birth, with family all around, knowing she was loved and that she had a place where she could give her love to others. A mate and a future all planned in which she knew she could do great things for her pride. To protect and serve them for all her days.
A time when her sister didn't betray her for nothing more than power and control.
For the first time since the attempted murder she felt tears seep into the pale fur of her cheeks. Tears for all the pain her family and pride had gone through, tears for her best friend left somewhere far behind in the Roguelands. And finally tears for her, for the uncertainty and fear that was her world now.
Finally, wrapped safe in the warm strength of this amazing male, a lion she had never expected to meet and wasn't sure she deserved, she grieved.

Tendaji felt his fur dampen from something other than far-off sea spray, and he stood motionless.
What was he going to do? He felt a sudden anger flare in his chest at the way Aoife was in so much pain, yet her Reaver obviously found joy in doing such a thing for her.
So he allowed her to grieve. He remained silent, but strong, wrapped around the poor delicate lioness, hoping that he could hold her up, hoping that he could make it better.
Perhaps when he became a Reaver, he could do something.
Determination roared within him and he pulled away to look at her, ferocity on his face.
"One day, you will be safe. I will find a way." His voice was husky and deep, resonating around the rocks that seemed to encircle the pair.

For a time, wrapped up in the safety of the amazing male beside her, she cried. Silent, invisible tears. Yet finally hey slowly ran dry, not because her pain had eased, but from the simple fact that she had no more left to give. Ragnvard was wearing her down fast and she truly did not know how much longer she could take his treatment.
The deep, rough voice above her gently called to her, prompting her to lift her head and gaze up at Tendaji, sniffing away the remains of her sorrow, not wanting him to worry any further than he already did. She was a grown lioness, she should be able to handle this... And yet having him close helped steady her, both emotionally and mentally.
His sudden declaration made her start, dark eyes widening even as a desperate hope bloomed deep within her chest. Could he really do that? Somehow take her away from Ragnvard? She hardly dare even consider the possibility, let alone allow hope to root itself within her. Though already it seemed she had failed, for she could not help gazing at Tendaji as if he were a God. Her God, her Savior.
"Tendaji.... " All the hope and longing she felt filled that one word, his name, her symbol of everything that she could hardly dream of.

He felt bad, bad that he was proclaiming to do something that may yet be impossible to do, but he still felt full of determination. Nothing could stop him.
He breathed gently against her and considered how odd events had turned out. He had joined the pride in the hope of becoming a strong member, to take part and be one of the pride members through and through. He thought by now he would still be settling in, perhaps there would be talking of him going viking for the first time. Instead he had found something completely different, something that had thrown him. He wasn't prepared for it. Not in the slightest.
"You will. I promise." He repeated.
