Name:
Nimian
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Rank: Dragon Candidate

Despite just turning 14 and finally reaching the age to Stand, Nimian looks way younger than his actual age suggests. This is, predominately, due to not hitting puberty yet. He appears to be around the age of twelve or so. Although he hasn't hit his growth spurt yet, the boy's limbs are thin and awkward. His skin is naturally tan in color, and his black hair is shaved close to his scalp. Nimian can generally be found with a genuine smile on his face.

Personality:

  • Hardworking
  • Optimistic
  • Eager
  • Naive
  • Starry-Eyed
  • Pacifistic

No one can say that Nimian is lazy or that he doesn't pull his weight. For a boy his size, he is certainly willing to do whatever he can when it comes to his work as a squire or his studies as a candidate. Even if it's a line of work that he doesn't particularly excel it, he will give it his all, regardless. The results may not be as perfect or good as someone with more skill in such things, but hey -- it's the thought that counts, right? The boy's hardworking nature can sometimes be a bit of a hinderance to him as well, unfortunately. There are times when he works himself so much that he ends up tiring himself out. There has been more than one occasion when Shylla has had to carry him off to bed. Such times have led to Nimian apologizing profusely the next morning. He didn't mean to fall asleep, really! He just didn't realize how exhausted he was.

Nimian's glass is always half full. Even in times of hardship or stress, he does his best to try and find at least one upside to the situation. If he can't do that, then he looks to the future for comfort in that things will be better soon. The young lad can always be seen with a smile on his face, generally. If times get serious, so, too, can Nimian should the time call for it. He's also not one to immediately assume the worse out of situations, as some folks are. He prefers to find glimmers of hope, and if he sees someone upset, he will try his best to cheer them up, if possible. If not, he will give them the space they need in order to feel better on their own.

The young lad really enjoys helping people out or volunteering for things. Should the need arise for an assistance during studies or drills, Nimian's hand is generally one of the first to shoot up. He is a very enthusiastic candidate, and he seems to enjoy just about every aspect of being a candidate. This eagerness, however, can sometimes be a bit troublesome from time to time as well. Some might view the boy as a bit too willing to do things. Others might say that he doesn't think things through enough before volunteering himself, and that he often rushes in before realizing the consequences. He certainly doesn't see it that way, though. Everything he does is a learning experience, even if there are negative consequences or mistakes to be made. Fall down seven times, stand up eight.

Unfortunately, Nimian can be a bit naive at times. It's not that he tries particularly to be that way; he doesn't. He just hasn't seen many things or had as much life experience as other individuals. The life he had growing up was relatively normal, all things considered. He hasn't seen a lot of fighting or battles, and he certainly doesn't know that much about the hardships that other people might go through or difficulties going on in the world around him. Signs of such things are there, of course: in the scars from threadfall, the exhausted eyes of a drudge, political tensions -- he just doesn't particularly notice them. Since he is inclined to focus on the good in things, any negative aspects of life are often pushed to the side or ignored completely by Nimian. One day, he might receive a hard enough smack in the face (figuratively or literally) to change all that, but as of right now, it has not happened yet.

The young lad spends so much time looking up at the dragonriders in the sky. Some might say his head up there right along with them. It's true, however; Nimian spends a lot of his time daydreaming about this thing and that. One of his favorite dreams, in particular, is to Impress upon a gold or a bronze dragon and ride with them off into the sunset. This is, of course, one of his more loftier dreams. His peers and teachers often say that he is too idealistic. That he needs to wake up, and get his head out of the clouds and back down to reality. He knows that he needs to set more realistic expectations for himself, but he can't help but dream, regardless. If he doesn't dream, after all, he feels he doesn't have goals to aspire to.

Nimian is a pacifist at heart. He hates confrontation of all sorts, be it a physical altercation or something as simple as an argument. Don't make him fight -- he doesn't want to do it; what good is trying to hit someone with a wooden sword going to do? Nothing, except bruise his fellow candidate! Now, keep in mind, Nimian does know how to defend himself, and he will do it if he has to. But if he has to be anymore aggressive than self-defense, don't expect him to be. He would much rather walk away from a confrontation than meet it head on. Such an attitude won't bode well when it comes time to join a wing, he understands. A combat wing of any sort will be out of the question, but frankly, he's ok with that. Leave the fighting for someone else.

History:

Nimian was born to a single mother who had worked as a drudge in Nabol Hold. His mother never spoke of his father, and as a result, Nimian has no idea who or where the man is. Wanting a better life for herself and for her young son, Nimian's mother ran away from her life as a drudge, and ended up joining a growing group of Clay Women. Nimian was only two years old at the time.

The young lad and his mother continued to live with the Clay Women throughout Nimian's youth. His mother took to the organization right away, and she became fervent in regard to what was both believed and practiced. She excelled in the craft of farming for the group, and often helped take care of not only the gardens, but animals as well.

He dreamed of leaving the camp one day, and what he would do as soon as he was out. Perhaps he would be a farmer like his mother, or maybe something like a fisher or a miner. Yet Nimian would do neither of those things, for his dream to leave the Sofianes came not when he was 16, but when he was 12 years old.

A searchrider swooped out of the sky, and explained to his mother and to the other women that he would make a perfect candidate for a dragon. With a desire to get the boy out of their hair, the majority of the women were fine with him leaving. One less mouth to feed, and one less boy to look at. Nimian's mother, though she loved her son, shared these sentiments, and with that, the young boy left later that day on the back of the search dragon.

Nimian's initial training at candidacy was a bit of a culture shock for him. He was not used to all the yelling and the militaristic lifestyle, but eventually he got the hang of things. Learning his letters also proved to be a bit difficult, but the boy pushed through it and learned how to read and write to a passable degree. He wouldn't be a Harper, that was for sure, but it was enough. Self-defense was another thing that proved a bit trying for the young boy. There was more than enough drills where Nimian got whipped into shape, but eventually he had done well enough to pass even this part of basic training. With basic out of the way, it was on to finding a squiremaster at last.

And find one, he did! Nimian ended up being paired with Shylla of Gold Evmeth. The young boy was beyond thrilled to be partnered with Shylla and Evmeth, and over the course of the time he has been with her, he has worked very hard. Since he recently turned 14, he hopes to follow in his squiremaster's footsteps in Impressing a gold, though he would also settle for a bronze. He is very eager at the prospect of Standing for a dragon. He has no bigger dream than doing that and making her proud.

Hi there, Nimian looks great for the most part! There's just one point to address before we can approve him.

Whilst male children of Clay Women have to leave the community when they reach adulthood while they are living there they wouldn't be mistreated or neglected; the core beliefs of the Sofians as a whole are “love, sacrifice, and duty", ignoring a male child or allowing him to be malnourished would rather fly in the face of that! If you could remove that aspect he should be good to go though, everything else looks fine.

Thanks!
