Well, he's definetly got some sort of scenthound... I'll flip through my breed book tomorrow when I'm not dead tired.

Any chance we could get some full-body pics of him standing?

Standing from the side would be a great help, as Savage said. The head shots are helpful, too, but side views let you get a good idea for the dog's conformation.

I also agree with her guess of 'scent hound' and I'd say Beagle on the basis that that's the most common scent hound with the most resemblance to your dog. Both types of Foxhound are kept principally by Masters of Hounds, who don't let their dogs go roaming about and create mixes, as are Harriers. Remember, uncommon breeds aren't likely to end up part of mixes--that why I say my Olly's a Border Terrier/Corgi cross and not a Glen of Imaal Terrier cross.

I hesitate to say this until I can see a picture that lets me see his conformation a bit better, but I can see Lab in him, especially in his tail and what I can see of his body.

By the way, what's his personality like? That is an indicator of this or that breed, albeit one that is sometimes somewhat iffy. If he's aloof, protective, and suspicious of strangers (which, looking at him, I doubt), then you have to make sure to figure out why he's got that personlity. Both of the breeds I mentioned are happy, people-loving dogs who tend to love to eat, and if he doesn't fit that profile at all then he's likely got ANOTHER breed in there (or a really bad quality dog of one of them, probably his dam).

Sorry. He doesn't stay still enough for those. I'll try though!

His personality:
He's an exteremly dopey and loving guy. He got his name, Moose, because of just how dopey he looks and acts. He's very friendly and playful around people. He doesn't seem to care about protecting anything. xD He just likes to play and be goofy.

I agree with Sola on the Lab bit, especially since the personality you described is almost exactly like a stereotypical Lab. I do beg to differ on the Beagle bit, though... The face screams "Basset" to me.

Now that I look at my breed book, I rather agree. He seems to be too long-legged from the pictures I see to be a Basset cross, though (even Labs tend to be rather stocky, at least the show type dogs which I tend to see in crosses).

looks part basset hound from the face and body length... so id say basset mix

ohh, you've got a tough one there.....I too would also have to say that there is defenitly some hound in there somewhere. The short ears and facial markings make me want to say beagle or basset (but not for the ears), but obviously there has to be something else, much larger, in the mix.

In my area, most of the Labs and Lab crosses are skinny and long-legged, because we have a serious problem with backyard breeders of Labs (Labs are EXTREMELY popular in my area). The body type makes me think of those dogs, as well as the earset.

Really? All the ones in my area are pudgy and shortlegged (again, backyard breeders--except that this is the tending of the actual show dogs). In that case, I'm even more inclined to see Basset/Lab, especially if he's long-bodied and short-legged, even if it's the level of a PBGV or a short-legged JRT rather than a Basset.

A few of the hunting dog lines around here are nice and stocky (not to extremes show dogs are taking it, but nicely stocky), but most Labs here are tending to be skinny, with long legs and snipy muzzles.

See, the long, lankier dogs are what I tend to associate with hunting stock because that's the sort I see in my area. The stocky dogs generally appear to be obese, with huge blocky muzzles and short legs and barrell torsos.

He does have a curios makeup. Defienatly hound. I do see a slight resemblance to the Hamiltonstovare, a hound popular in Sweden but primarily founded in England. Also known as the Hamilton Hound, they are said to be nicely tempered. But chances are slim because, atleast to my knowledge, it is one of the rarer breeds.

Still, Hamiltonstovares are rather large dogs.

This dog is HUGE! Note his nickname of Moose was also said this. He's roughly the size of a German Shepard maybe even bigger. We used to say he was a horse until my mom decided his new nickname was Moose.

Just for an example...

In my area, this is a typical sporting dog type lab, while this is a typical pet Lab.
