Gwen whined to herself as she walked down the hall. The teen could hear her mother in her head. She was right after all. Gwen absolutely had no sense of navigation. The girl was lost, in the basement of all things. THE BASEMENT. How do you get lost in a basement.

"Real smooth Gwen... Real... reall smooth." She sighed. Admittedly, in the beginning she was curious as to why anyone would want to live down here. And at first, she was really curious, and interested to see the few empty rooms that were down there. But after a while, and one too many... odd things, Gwen was ready to go back upstairs, to her room.

That was when she realized she hadn't been paying much attention to what floor she was. Though... she was either incredibly bad at navigation more then her mother gave her credit for, or she was just stupid. Each floor was a hallway.

So how did this happen.

Sighing Gwen decided she'd ask for help. This was gonna suck to explain she thought as she knocked on the nearest door.

He was unaware of the girl's plight. No, Rex was busy in his room, reading his Western books because honestly, interacting with the general public had only gone so far. He had basically made a 'kind of' friend in Dorian. No, Rex didn't really hang out with anyone, hardly anyone knew him, and making a name for himself was rather difficult when everyone basically outranked him or already had a clique to hang with.

The red head hand contented himself to read when there was a knock on the door. Blinking, he squinted at it hard, brown eyes narrowing slowly before getting up. He was only in his pants because, let's face it, he didn't think it was cold enough down here and he hadn't been bothered in so long.

Opening the door, he half wished he'd grabbed a shirt when he saw a girl standing there.

"Hi....?"

Of all the things Gwen expected, to come face to... well chest with someone was certainly not it. ... A very freckled chest at that. She slowly for a minute as she continued to stare forward.

Holy s**t it was gorgeous.

Wait what?

"Um...." She said quietly before she seemed to realize and come back to her senses. "Sorry!" Gwen squeaked springing back. No her gaze certainly had not some how gone down and noticed he was wearing low riding jeans. Nope! No siree! And no she certainly wasn't blushing redder then a tomato. Nope

...Who was she kidding.

"Uh.. Hi. I kinda... got lost and uh...Iwaswonderingifyoucouldpointmetothemainfloor." She said, rushing the end of the sentence like if she was on fire. "Er... My names Gwen???"

Somehow Rex realized the roles were reversed. Usually it was the dude staring at boobs while the girl answered the door. Huh. Shaking his head and removing that thought, he listened as she rushed out the words and then introduced herself. She did that backwards as well.

She was kind of cute. Rex gave a hearty laugh before pushing a hand through his messy red hair and sighed. "Yeah. I can point you toward the main floor. I'm Rex, by the way... Wait." He paused, staring at her hard and then let his lips pull into a serious line. "How did you get off the main floor if that's where you're supposed to be?" Were her navigation skills seriously that bad? His hand went from his hair, to behind his ear, giving it a lazy scratch as he thought this over.

"Whatever. Uh. Let me..." He wandered into the room, leaving his door open before grabbing a white tee-shirt and just slid that on. Next came the boots without the spurs. He stepped into those and then kicked the toe against the floor to make sure he was settled properly before nodding. "Come on. I'll show you."

Gwen pouted slightly when he laughed. Was she that weird? Her pout quickly disappeared as she laughed awkwardly. "I got... curious as to why anyone would live in the basement... Then I kinda got lost after a few rooms..." Her shoulders slumped. That was pretty pathetic really. "I don't usually venture outside my room. I literally know like two people here so..."

When he disappeared into his room, Gwen leaned to the side, maybe not so subtly, to peek inside. She didn't get the appeal. She honestly didn't. They were dark, dank, things didn't work right. So why would anyone chose to live down here.

"Thanks..." She murmured, following him.

It wasn't that she was weird, it's that Rex hadn't had any interaction with anyone in a while because he holed himself up down here. That and Airheart was driving him mental with her snarky sarcasm and then nothing but silence when he tried to hold a conversation.

So she was curious about the basement and then somehow got lost? Grabbing his coat right and scarf right before he left his room, Rex just grinned. "'cause it's out of the way and you can be left alone when you really need to. At least that's why I like it." The whole time he was walking, he put on his scarf, or rather, just draped it over his shoulders and then pulled on his coat and rolled up his sleeves.

"Not a problem. I don't.. know how you got lost, because it's pretty much straight down and then you turn and keep going straight and then voila, stairs."

"Oh." She said. That made sense, she supposed. Not everyone wanted to hang around other people. Still, it was kinda weird. "You can be alone when your in your dorm. Why live completely alone?" The girl shrugged. Everyone was different.

"I got lost cause I ain't no city slicker. I grew up on a farm. Everything was open. You could climb a tree and see for miles. Here... buildings block each other and everything just seems... Fake. It's too busy almost. I guess I just haven't adjusted as easily as I thought I would."

"Because... I can chose when to mingle and usually don't have to worry about people wanting to do things all the time." Meaning he didn't have to worry about people knocking on his door. He trained, he ate, he did missions when he was assigned them (so far none yet) and he came back to the room to keep building and tinkering with what he could find, the scraps of broken machines or whatever.

Her excuse wasn't much of an excuse really. He grew up on a ranch, much bigger than a farm, much more isolated. But Rex kept quiet, letting Gwen vent and nodded. "That we can agree on. Too crowded, too... loud. Main hall is just like that." Before they both knew it, he was standing in front of the stairs, back against the wall, arms crossed with a giant grin on his face. "Well, here you go.. Gwen was it?"

"I know what you're thinking." Gwen said, staring at the back of his head. "It's a pretty piss poor excuse. But it's the truth. I'm out of my element. I don't know anyone here. I'm away from everything and everyone I know. It's natural that I would be out of sorts and get lost easy." The teen murmured. "It could have happened to anyone.

"You can live around people and not have to worry them you know... Just get one of those dinky 'Do not disturb signs.' or ya know, just don't answer the door when they knock. Simple enough right??? Basically what my brother did whenever we tried to get him to do anything on the farm..." Gwen hummed quietly as he agreed with her though. "I wish there were a few more places you could go where it wasn't as crowded... I kind of only know all of two people here." ...Perhaps now though, Rex counted as the third? "....Would it seem weird if I said I still prefer the company of animals over most of the people here??? From what I've seen in the mess hall, there's not much of a difference. ...Aside from manners."

When they got to the stairs she stopped, staring up them before turning to him. "Yeah... Rex right?" Then she grinned to match his as she rocked from her heels to the balls of her feet and swung her hands behind her back. "Cute. My dog's name was Rex." She teased. "Suppose I should do this properly though huh?" Then she thrust out a hand into the space between them. "The names Gwen Cervantes. Spaz extraordinaire and s**t navigator. I'm a trainee in the Death Division. It's nice to meet you."

Rex hummed as she talked, turning to watch her, a little grin playing on his lips. She talked a lot but it wasn't bad. Some of it was mindless chatter, but the red-head didn't mind it. She wormed her way back around to the point, eventually. Just as she stopped, he opened his mouth to say something else and then she talked some more.

Well. "....Hey! I take offense to that. I'm not a dog." Not that you know. He didn't hound people unless he got to know them first. He laughed, showing that he was teasing and then just took her hand in his, shaking it.

"Rex Marksley. Death, as well. Uuuuh, cowboy extraordinaire? I'm ...I'm okay at navigating. Gotta be when you're heardin' cows and horses and things." He gave her a wink. Sot hey were both farm people, but his job was probably a lot different than hers. The women at his place actually just fed the animals, took care of the house, the crops. Meanwhile he cleaned stables, moved hay bales, all that he-man s**t. Fun things that put a good amount of muscle on the freckled man.

"As for do not disturb signs, only if I'm entertaining a lady."

Gwen snickered. "You sure? I don't know... My Rex had red fur... Kinda matches your hair. You sure you ain't my dog?" She bit her lip as she tried not to laugh. "Sorry sorry. You're much nicer then my dog. My Rex kinda listens to everyone but me so... Dogs..." She shrugged.

"Ah... I never did any of the herdin. Papa said it was too much for a girl..." She murmured with a roll of the eyes. "My brother was to young to help so he did it on his own. I stayed relatively close to the house since Mama was sick a lot. So it was mostly feeding the animals. Sometimes it was typical stuff like washing them down, cleaning the stables. I was in the barn a lot so that was the only "macho" thing Papa let me do." Sometimes she was surprised her parents even agreed to let her come here.

She was about to say something else when his words sunk in, and Gwen started furiously blushing, hiding behind her hands. "R-rex!" She squeaked. "Oh my GOD." Did he just say that? He just said that didn't he? Oh god.

He arched a brow as she continued on about her dog and then rolled his eyes lightly. "Bark, bark." He laughed and then looked her over again and hummed.

HA! He got her. She laughed looked ready to die. Rex bounced on the balls of his feet a bit before just watching her with wide, happy eyes. "What? It's not like I've actually entertained a lady there yet. I mean.. I don't bring ladies there. Not yet. I'd end up talking to them too long and I think they get tired of me and.." He waved a hand before winking at Gwen.

"Anyway. So... I'll be seeing you around?"

Gwen rolled her eyes playfully with a light hearted shrug when he barked. "Careful there boy. You ain't got no collar or tags. Best hope AC doesn't come looking for you."

The brunette whined. Trying not to get redder then she was. "I don't need to know what ya do in your roooooom. Oh my god." Operation stop getting red: failed. She covered her face with her hands, rocking her body back and forth trying to get the image out of her head. Rex seemed to be over it, he had dismissed it quickly but.. Were all cowboys this... forward?

"Uh... yeah. Yeah." She said when she finally calmed down. "Yer talking ain't gonna scare me off that much." Well, it hadn't yet anyway. "I'm on one of the upper floors if ya ever get tired of the basement... Need a change of scenery or something. I ain't got a room partner so you don't hafta worry about that."
