It felt good to punch a larger man in the face and know his opponent was incapable of fighting back. And if his fist happened to ache as a result of it not landing properly against said opponent's jaw, the pain simply served to make him a stronger soldier.

“You'll answer my questions, Knight, if you know what's good for you,” he said.

The Knight in question was slumped in his chains, not kept so weak that he was incapable of standing if he chose, but bound in such a way that made standing difficult all the same. Aquamarine hadn't been the one to fasten the chains, but he commended whoever had made the effort. They kept the larger man from moving overmuch, allowing Aquamarine to get up close and personal without concern for retaliation.

He'd not seen this Knight before today. It hardly mattered, of course. They were all the same to him. No better or worse than the Senshi, really. And it wasn't as if Aquamarine had any personal vendettas against the Senshi to begin with. He was merely following orders, and orders dictated that their prisoners must be questioned thoroughly. A prisoner's failure to comply would result in the appropriate punishment.

Except in the case of one Lieutenant Aquamarine. He didn't need a reason to punch anyone in the face. Certainly not this man, whose superior height and build pissed him off more than which side of the war he was on.

So he made Aquamarine feel a bit inadequate. So what?

There wasn’t much Valhalla could do besides grimace and wince in pain as he recoiled from the punch. His arms were bound behind him, chained to the ground in a way that he was forced onto his knees. He kept his eyes closed as he forced himself to breathe evenly, not sure what he could possibly say to get through this young, obviously brainwashed lieutenant.

His helmet and armor had been removed, but his shirt was still torn and bloody from not having the chance to power down since he'd been stabbed. Whoever had stitched him up and applied the bandage to his side seemed to have done a decent enough job, but it still ached painfully and the bandage obviously needed to be replaced.

“Like I said before… I’ll be more than happy to answer any of your questions…” he said through gritted teeth, slower this time than the last as apparently this young man hadn’t heard him or just didn’t believe him. “I’ll save you some time… No, I don’t know where the Moon Queen is, but you can try the moon. No, we don’t worship her, nor will we follow her if she shows up. If you’re being technical, yes senshi originate from other worlds, but they were all born here because Chaos or whatever destroyed their worlds and they got stuck here. Knights are mostly from Earth, though. So you’re ******** with that one,” he spat, trying not to get annoyed but it was difficult when he was being used as a punching bag and couldn’t defend himself.

“Does it make you feel better about yourself, knowing you can hurt someone who can’t fight back? Are you going to blame your ‘orders’ for the fact that you’re a coward?”

“This has nothing to do with me being a coward,” Aquamarine grinned, “and everything to do with the fact that I happen to be enjoying myself. Oh, and I was ordered to do it, yes, but I'd have been happy to do it either way.”

So this guy still had some sass in him. Good. Aquamarine liked that. It'd make things more entertaining. Had the Knight been unbound and able to defend himself, perhaps it wouldn't have been, but as that wasn't a possibility at the moment Aquamarine didn't have to worry about “would have beens.”

He considered the Knight's answers but found himself unsatisfied. So he kicked the Knight in the gut.

“I wasn't going to ask you any of that, fool,” he jeered. He grabbed the Knight by the hair to keep him upright. “First, I want to know your name. We can get to all the rest later.”

He let out a yelp of pain as he was kicked, and while he coughed from the sudden impact, he couldn’t help but wonder how long the bandages were going to hold at this rate. For all he knew, this lieutenant couldn’t care less if he ended up bleeding to death.

“Valhalla,” he spat, surprised he wasn’t coughing up blood yet. He pitied this child, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be angry either. Even as he winced when his hair was pulled, he glared at the lieutenant. “I’m a knight of Jupiter. That’s what the little four on my helmet means, wherever that ended up. You seem a bit new, so I figured you might benefit knowing that.”

If anything he was just annoyed that this young boy had been allowed to just do whatever he wanted. He couldn’t be much older than Peter!

One thing the world and everyone on it would soon learn was that Lovely Belrose, known now as Lieutenant Aquamarine, had always been allowed to do whatever he wanted.

“I know what the symbol of Jupiter looks like,” Aquamarine sneered. “I'm not uneducated.”

Just spoiled, but as if that mattered.

Aquamarine released the Knight's hair to backhand him across the face.

Valhalla,” he repeated the Knight's name. “Where the dead go to prepare for Ragnarok. I might be new but I know my mythology, Knight. Anyway, what your little symbols mean isn't the sort of information I'm looking for. How many of you knights are there? I heard it used to be we only had Senshi to worry about. Now we have you.”

Valhalla was a peaceful man who thought violence was despicable. But the more this lieutenant thought to hit and kick him, the more he thought it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if he could give one good hit back. Just one. That was all he’d need.

“According to Norse Mythology, yeah,” he frowned, trying to ignore the stinging in his eyes. Other than being a peaceful man, he also wasn’t a fighter. He wasn’t used to getting beaten up. “You should come see it yourself sometime. Unless you’re afraid of thunder,” he added, shifting uncomfortably, his neck aching from having to look up.

“No idea how much of us there are. Does it matter? We’re not a threat to you,” he said, and then managed a small, ironic smirk. “Does General-King Zinkenite know about this? I can’t imagine he’d be very pleased. If you run into him, you should tell him I say hello.”

“I wouldn't know. I've never met General-King Zinkenite.”

Which was a shame. He'd've liked the opportunity to kiss a General-King's a**.

Figuratively, of course.

But then there was always General-Queen Apatite, whose orders they were currently following. If he did well with these interrogations, maybe he'd get a little recognition from her. Maybe he'd even be promoted!

Hey, one could dream.

“But that's interesting, you speaking of a General-King like you know him personally,” Aquamarine allowed. For the moment, he paused the beating and stared at the Knight with a fair bit of intrigue.

“In lieu of General-King Zinkenite's absence, I'll be happy to pass the greeting on to General-Queen Apatite instead. I'm sure she'll be pleased to know you're talking. Now, what can you tell me about the Senshi?”

He would admit that he didn’t know who this Apatite woman even was, but apparently she was just as important as Zinkenite. They were definitely following her orders, anyway. Valhalla swallowed thickly, unsure of what he was getting himself into, but suddenly feeling as though he was already in too deep.

“I already told you what I know about senshi… you’ll have to ask more specific questions, although I would have been happy to answer them for anyone who asked, not just because I’m tied down,” he said with another grimace.

He knew Zinkenite, but he was pretty sure his respect for him was one-sided, and therefore irrelevant. Why would a General-King want to help a pathetic knight like him…?

“Unfortunately we can't allow you the opportunity to use your magic. This is a very important operation, you see.”

Or at least he thought it was. With all the trouble that'd gone into planning and executing it, it must be. General-Queen Apatite hadn't even told them what to expect until the time had come to drop the ruse and start draining some energy. Clearly she'd been worried about their plans failing before they even began. You never could tell who you were able to trust. Aquamarine figured it was no different in the Negaverse.

He'd joined without thinking much of it at the time. It seemed like the thing to do considering Jet just threw himself right into it after the unfortunate event of his brother's murder at the hand of a Senshi, and Seraphinite had followed like a faithful guard dog. Aquamarine was simply along for the ride.

That, and he couldn't really be sure he wouldn't have been killed had he refused.

In any case, that wasn't important now. He had a job to do, and he planned on doing it well.

“I want to know about a specific Senshi I've been told about,” he said. “The one that got away, as they say. I've heard she glows.”

Suddenly, a wide, sinister looking grin spread across Aquamarine's face as he added, “A little birdie also told me you were with her before you were brought here.”

Valhalla knew who the young lieutenant was talking about even before the comment that he’d been seen with her, and his face paled more than it already was. Of course they’d be talking about Ganymede. Why wouldn’t they? She was unlike anything they’d come to know as of yet. At one point, knights were new and the Negaverse had been curious about them.

And now… There was something special about Ganymede that drew others to her. Some kind of energy that made her different.

“What about her…?” he said slowly, raising his eyes up to glare defiantly at the lieutenant, as if daring him to say something he shouldn’t. If he hurt her… if he tried to hurt her… Actually, there wasn’t much Valhalla could do about it, but he would definitely be very upset.

“What about her? You tell me,” Aquamarine said.

He smirked at the defiant glare he received, sure he'd touched on a sensitive nerve. Here this Knight was, completely vulnerable, and he had the audacity to look as if he meant to hurt his captors depending on Aquamarine's answer. Interesting. Clearly this Senshi they spoke of meant something to the Knight.

Aquamarine knew very little about the issue, had never seen the Senshi in question, nor did he know very many people who'd met her. He couldn't even remember if he'd been told her name. All he had was a description of her looks, and the knowledge, passed on to him by others, that's she'd been with this Valhalla when he was captured. They'd surrendered themselves for one another, or so it was said.

How sweet.

“First, I want to know her name,” he said, standing back and folding his arms over his chest expectantly. “I want to know why you have that look on your face, like you want to hurt me simply for bringing her up. What does she mean to you?”

Guine

What does she mean to him…? She meant everything to him, and he opened his mouth to say just that, but stopped himself at the sight of the gleam in the lieutenant’s eyes. He was acting too rashly. He knew he couldn’t do anything and telling the lieutenant what he wanted to know would either satisfy him or increase his desire to hurt him…

And possibly even Ganymede.

His anger withdrew some and he shifted his eyes away from the young man before him. “Ask her…” he said simply, not seeing why he would be asking unless Ganymede wasn’t saying anything. “What do you want from her? What could she possibly do for you?” he wondered, his anger tempered but only below the surface.

“Really? You'd like me to ask her?”

He placed a fisted hand into the opposite palm and cracked his knuckles threateningly. It should be obvious to this Knight what he planned on doing to the Senshi if and when he got the chance to see her.

And he planned to. It seemed the perfect opportunity while she was in captivity. What became of her after that was anyone's guess. Something told him she was important to this Knight, whatever he had to say about her—or didn't say, as it were.

“I don't personally want anything from her,” he said, “but my superiors are pretty interested in her, as I'm sure you know. It's said General-Queen Laurelite tried to corrupt her and failed. I wonder why that is...”

Valhalla raised his eyes to glare at the Lieutenant once more, and he yanked on his chains as if they had magically been released and he could somehow make a lunge at the young man. Alas, that was not the case, although he wouldn’t be too upset if it had startled him.

“No one knows. It just happened. There are others like her, not just her,” he said, although he only knew of one other, and he was very glad he hadn’t seen Babylon at the New Year’s party. Even if he was the most annoying guy in the world, he would wish this upon no one.

Aquamarine wasn't startled in the least. If anything he looked more amused. It delighted him to see the Knight struggling so passionately, kneeling there in front of him, entirely at Aquamarine's mercy.

He could do anything he wanted to the man and there was nothing the Knight could do to retaliate. It gave him a heady sense of power he'd not felt before. Certainly he viewed himself as a superior human being by virtue of his family's status in the world, but he'd never quite felt it before.

“I'm not asking about any others,” Aquamarine said. “Thanks for the information, though. I'll make sure to let my superiors know they should be looking for more of them. In the meantime, why don't you tell me about the one we already have. I'm still interested to know what she means to you. If you don't want to tell me, there are always other ways for us to find out.”
