Upon waking up as the sun dipped down into the sky, Balara and her wher were approached with some unexpected news. The hunt they were a part of would not be patrolling the Weyr over the next few days. Instead, they would be moving down and overseeing the Hold proper, to make sure everything was ok and no one out of place was roaming around. Some peculiar business had been going on there as of late, namely a couple of untimely deaths of some drudges and what not. Although she was tempted to inquire further on the nature of what happened, the young woman thought better of it, and instead prepared her gear and Balarask for the upcoming nights ahead.

By early evening, the two of them were making their rounds up and down the streets of the hold. Balara kept her eyes peeled, on the lookout for anything suspicious, while Balarask sniffed at the ground. Not much was happening, to be entirely honest. People were walking around here and there, going out of this shop and that, but that was just about it, frankly. "It's kind of boring here, isn't it," she murmured to the blue wher at her side. Next to her, Balarask snorted in response, wings fluttering a bit.

"Hopefully, we can meet someone interesting to chat with," she went on to say, unable to keep from gazing into the lit windows of the shops they passed. It wasn't often that she got to look into the shops, even before she was working at the Weyr. She and her mother, a maid at a prominent household within the Hold, stayed inside the house most of the time.

"Who knows?"

Siazmos had returned the night before after accompanying the merchant's goods train to their destination. It had been a long slow trip getting there, and he was pleased to let his wher open up his paces on the trip back. They'd made good time coming back, but it'd still taken them nearly a sevenday. The pair had a good rest and hadn't really had anything to look forward to that night. Luckily for them, a woman had approached him shortly after he'd gotten up about delivering a large bulky package. Siazmos had arranged to have the woman's husband deliver it to his house.

After the package had been delivered, he gave a whistle and a large bronze head nosed out of the shed attached to the house. He grinned at the wher. "C'mon old boy. We got a job to do." Siaz shook the jingling harness as well. It didn't take much to the wher standing outside and began rigging him up. "We should be back before tonight is over, and the offered you a side of bacon. Lucky boy. Don't mind sharing do you?" Siazmosk lifted his head and churred back at his handler. "Yes I said pork you silly beast." It was clear the wher approved of the fee.

A bronze flit perched safely on the edge of the shed and observed the proceedings. Siaz finished checking the harness that would carry the package and himself was secure, then heaved the package up and started lashing it down. "Coming Racer?" He asked of the flit. A quick cheep gave an affirmative answer, which brought a smile to his lips. The flit often flew ahead or near where the wher's head. They made a good trio.

A little while later, the sound of something caught both Balara and her wher's attention. The jingling of bells or a harness or something like that, by the sound of it. Intrigued, the wherhandler whistled and Balarask followed alongside dutifully. A scent also reached his nose -- a somewhat familiar one of another wher - and the blue broke into a jog. Wordlessly, the patrolwoman dashed after Balarask, intrigued as to what it could be.

Neither of them imagined meeting up with another wherhandler and his wher. When Balarask caught sight of the bronze wher, he picked up his speed, only to stop alongside Siazmosk. Balara, on the other hand, slowed down to a walk before finally arriving next to the deliveryman. Once she had stopped, she paused to straighten up her outfit and her hair, and then quirked her brow at the man.

"A deliveryman, I assume," she asked, her gaze shifting from him, to Siazmosk, to the bronze flitt, and then back to the man. "I should hope, anyway, you don't look like a smuggler or anything of the shady sort." To confirm her hypothesis, Balara allowed herself to scan up and down the man's figure before giving a definite nod. Nope -- he definitely wasn't a smuggler. You could never really tell, though, what with all the crazy things going on around the Hold as of late.

"I'm Balara," a hand jutted out as she said this, extended out to Siazmos for him to shake if he so desired, "and this is my wher, Balarask." A happy trill resonated from the blue upon his introduction, and he wagged his tail playfully at his fellow wher. With introductions out of the way, Balara took a step back to study just exactly what the deliveryman was trying to deliver. Delivering packages seemed like an honest business, so Siazmos had to do at least decently for himself. He had the chance to be his own man, rather than part of a hunting unit. In that regard, the young woman was a bit envious. It'd be nice to do something like that!

The scent of wher reached Siazmosk and the bronze craned his head around until the heat signature of a smaller wher came into view. He gave an inquiring chirp as he regarded the blue wher. As long as the blue didn't get too close to his handler, he was alright with the blue's presence.

Siazmos was quite surprised when a blue wher popped up out of the darkness and came to stand by his wher. It was obviously a tame wher and not a wild one, as a wild wher wouldn't get this far into the hold. A moment later and who he assumed to be the blue's handler made her appearance out of the dark. Siaz grinned and nodded a greeting. "Only part time I'm afraid," he replied with a laugh. "When I'm not guarding wagon trains for my employer." He was intrigued by her comment about a smuggler. If he could get enough work, he would love to just do deliveries for those who couldn't afford dragon transport. "Wouldn't be a smuggler for long if I loaded up out in the open now would I? On patrol from?" he inquired. She wasn't a familiar face. Siaz assumed she was from nearby then. "I can of course direct you to the couple who requested I deliver this package."

"Siazmos and Siazmosk, pleasure Balara and Balarask." With a hand on the package he reached over to give her hand a good shake. He watched amused as the bronze bobbed his head back at the playful blue. "Woah boy. Let me get this tied down first before you go galloping around." As the wher stilled, Siaz went back to work to quickly and securely tie down the load.

Siazmos made a decent point. Smugglers didn't exactly do their dealings out in the open where everyone could see them. They stuck to back alleys, behind buildings, and hidden nooks and crannies where they were sure they'd be out of sight. When the deliveryman shook her hand, she returned it back and chuckled with amusement at his smuggler comment. She then watched as Siazmosk eagerly awaited the chance to pull the delivery cart. Even his wher seemed to enjoy his partners line of work, so that was good.

"We're down from the Weyr, actually," she commented, giving her own wher a click of her tongue to signal him. Upon hearing the click, Balarask returned to his partner's side, chirruping happily the moment he returned. It was clear that seeing another wher, and especially one so interesting, that the blue was happy. Perhaps he was glad to make a new friend? "Can we join you on your run," she asked, head tilting to the side curiously.

She could still keep an eye on the Hold and follow Siazmos on his run. It shouldn't be too difficult. Besides, it'd get her and Balarask out to see more parts of the Hold that they may not have been to.

Just so you know, there is no 'delivery cart'. The package is just being tied down to the wher's back. I don't think a cart would survive behind him lol.

Siazmos worked quickly. He'd specifically rigged up several different saddles to use for varying sized packages. This saddle had metal rings embedded into the leather that could be used to secure packages. He couldn't hold awkward packages like this while running, and he didn't want any of it damaged in transport. This had been his best solution. The man finished securing the last strap then gave a whistled signal- up and back. He wanted the wher to take a gentle run up and street and back to see if anything came loose or shifted. He stepped back.

Siazmosk set off and was quickly back. He gave a contented churr at his handler that the package was secure and butted his head possessively against the man's chest.

"Easy boy," Siaz staggered back a step as the head shoved his chest. He looped an arm comfortingly over the bronze neck. "The Weyr hu? Don't usually see too many handlers from there down here. Everything alright?" He knew a fair number of people who could afford a wher or two usually had their own for protection. While his didn't have the bulk of a guard wher, the bronze was still impressive with his long legs. For the Weyr to send a handler down here implied that something fowl might be afoot. "If you need a hand with something, feel free to call on us."

"Of course, if you like." Siaz grinned at the woman. "Your blue should be able to keep up quite well with him." A slap to the shoulder and the wher lowered down to his belly for his handler to mount. The package only made it a little difficult to get his leg over.
