Tesni flicked her ears backwards against her head at the sounds from the forest around her. She couldn’t remember ever seeing trees grow so huge, in the winter wonderland where she came from most things didn’t grow very large. Tesni was used to the sounds of wind whipping across open planes; wolf howls in the distance, the crunch of snow under her hooves, rarely had she heard the sounds of a bird in the trees. A forest and its sounds, was practically unheard of, it felt so... alive around her. She was entranced with it, and found herself stopping from time to time to inspect something closer.
However this only caused Isuru to huff and chide her lightly, the little mouse seemed terribly impatient. Tesni couldn’t help it however; she found herself terribly distracted by the way the sun played in the leaves around her. Her hooves slowed until finally they came to a stop once more; her horns catching lightly on one of the lower hanging branches had caused her to pause.
She extended her head up to sniff at the leaves, before she nibbled at them lightly. They smelled spicy almost but their taste was a bit minty which didn’t make much sense to her. She canted her head slightly to the side, rolling the taste around in her mouth when she heard it.
“Tesni!” The little voice squeaked up at her causing her to looked sheepish and lower her head. Isuru huffed lightly and put little paws on Tesni’s nose. The little mouse pulled herself up by Tesni’s bridle to sit on the mare’s head beside her ear. “We are never going to get there if you keep stopping every five seconds.” Isuru sounded exasperated which only caused the frozen mare to lay her ears back slightly ashamed.
“I’m sorry Isuru, I can’t help it. I get so caught up with how… alive everything is. It’s all amazing, so different.” Tesni’s voice trailed off as she glanced around herself once more. The already irritated mouse sighed and tugged lightly on Tesni’s mane.
“Come on girl, we have to keep moving. You want to meet my friend right?” Isuru asked causing Tesni to start moving once more as she nodded gently; careful not to dislodge the small creature on her head.
“Of coruse!” Tesni stated as she trotted along lightly, her hoof beats heavy on the ground. She honestly couldn’t wait, Isuru had promised her things would be fine. They would find Isuru’s friend and Tesni wouldn’t have to be alone anymore. She wouldn’t have to be afraid and she would be accepted as the good person she swore she was. While there were moments when Tesni wasn’t so sure she believed it could be possible, there were times when her heart would flutter and she would have hope. It had been so long, so very long since she had felt the warmth of friendship and if Isuru said it was true then all she could do was trust her. After all Isuru was her friend, her best friend, her one true friend, and Tesni trusted her above all others… not that there were many others to begin with.
