What a mess the past few days had been. The New Year's Eve fiasco was practically big enough to be multiple fiascoes in its own right, and Glitnir was just glad it was over, or at least as over as it would ever be for the people who suffered from it. Undoubtedly, some people were traumatized, and for those people, it wouldn't be as simple as cleaning up a mess. Man, did he hope everyone he had seen was okay... it was possible that he would have to send a few get-well ring mails out when certain people would be up for reading messages again. Partly because he felt anxious and wanted to clear his head and partly because he didn't feel like sitting still, Glitnir had gone out to patrol tonight, wandering around in one of the parks. He didn't even care if he actually found anything; he just wanted to keep in motion, because if he sat still, he was sure the reality of what had happened would crash down on him all over again. He hadn't felt this jittery since he had received those visions of the future, and even then, perhaps this event beat it out. Despite all that, he felt a small Order aura coming from somewhere in the park. There was a senshi out and about. "Hello?" he called out. It seemed he met a lot of people this way...

The park was easily Cruithne's favorite place to patrol when she wasn't able to travel to her homeworld. Between her messed up memories and the random people she met while out, she was ever so slowly coming to terms with being a senshi.
It felt good, but odd.
Tonight was no different. She'd decided to visit the botanical gardens deep within the park and was now heading for home. The brush of an Order aligned aura flickered against her senses and she paused for a moment, wondering if it was anyone she might know.
The masculine sounding greeting quickly put paid to that notion and though part of her wanted to hide and wait for him to go away, the rest of her insisted that she had to be polite.
"H-hello," she called back.

The voice sounded young and meek, which was not what Glitnir was expecting, though the aura did seem different from a standard senshi. "Hey, where are you?" For a change, he actually remembered that auras were a thing, and felt (sensed?) around for the small aura till he found the person behind it. "Oh, hey there," he said, softening his voice. "What are you up to today? Patrolling?" He was having trouble figuring how old this girl was. Was she a chibi senshi? An older chibi senshi? A fresh normal senshi? Senshi denominations got confusing after a bit.

Cruithne took a moment to size up the man before stepping just enough into the light so that he could see her. She'd decided that he was one of the knights, given his aura. In spite of his bits of armor, he looked harmless enough. Well, it wouldn't hurt to talk to him a little.
"I-i just finished m-my patrol," she said softly. Tilting her head curiously, she tried to place him within the memories she carried of a dark future. He didn't match up to anyone that she could recall. Which meant introductions were in order.
"I'm C-cruithne."

"And I'm Glitnir, Page of Mars. Nice to meet you, Cruithne." Glitnir swatted aside the idea of calling her "Crui." "Did you find anything on your patrol? Youma, officers, anything like that?" As he asked this question, an idea popped into his head. Was this girl still at the age where she liked to play pretend? If not, did she like games at all? He had been sitting on an idea for about two days now, and if he could test it out with this girl, perhaps he could show it to some others as well.

Shaking her head, Cruithne gave a gentle shrug.
"Nothing t-that I saw," she answered. Of course, she hadn't exactly been looking tonight, but no need to tell this Glitnir that. Instead, she rubbed idly at an already fading scar on her scar and tried to think of something to talk about.
"W-what is it like to be a knight?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her for a moment. "Is it t-true that you don't have magic?"
Well, okay. She was trying.

The girl asked good questions, at least. "Hmm! Well... being a Knight... it's kind of like being a senshi, isn't it? We power up, we patrol the streets, we dust youma, we get into tussles with Negaverse agents. We have Wonders, important places on a planet, instead of full planets, but we still go into space. Except the Earth Knights, I think. I don't know how Earth Wonders work. And some Knights do have magic! They're Squires and Knights though, not Pages. I don't think Pages get magic." Glitnir cast a sidelong glance towards a tree. That one had good branches; it would do. "Would you mind running a little experiment with me? It won't take too long, I don't think. All we need are two nice, sturdy branches." Yes, an experiment was a good, neutral way to frame it.

Just by the names he rattled off, Cruithne supposed that a Page was like a regular new senshi. But to have no magic! Looking mildly aghast at this, she studied Glitnir even more closely. She had to assume that a higher power had decreed how senshi and knights worked, but no magic.
"H-how on earth do P-pages stay alive?" the question slipped out before she could stop it. Blushing faintly from embarrassment, she quickly lowered her eyes and scuffed at the ground with her shoe.
Though she looked back up quickly enough, eyes full of wary suspicion at this mention of an experiment that needed branches. She had no idea what the man could possibly be thinking and while she didn't want to be rude, she wasn't about to agree to anything couched in such vague terms.
"M-maybe?"

Glitnir chuckled, then shrugged. "The same way senshi stay alive, I guess. We're just really, really careful. Also, we have weapons! They're not always useful, so we just have to use our fists sometimes, like you do. I lucked out. my scales are kind of like a flail in how you can swing them around by the chain." As for the invitation for an experiment, the "maybe" was better than a "no," but even he knew he was being a little weird about it, partly because the experiment was weird. "All righty! What we're going to do is a little stick fencing. It's just what it sounds like: I get a stick, you get a stick, and we joust for a little bit. I just want to see how it goes." He didn't give Cruithne much of a chance to respond before he went a little ways away and took two branches off a nearby tree. "These should do it. I'll give you the one that's a bit longer."

Well, if they got weapons, then that wasn't so bad. Still. It really was a wonder that senshi like her or pages managed to survive.
Cruithne gave Glitnir a mildly disgusted look as he went on to explain his experiment. Sighing loudly, she shook her head and asked almost waspishly, "W-well why didn't y-you just say that before? I k-know what stick f-fencing is.
Then, as almost an afterthought as she watched him break branches, "Y-you shouldn't h-hurt trees. T-there're plenty of d-dead branches in a p-park."
All right, to be fair she wasn't entirely sure that she would have stuck around had he first said he wanted to fence with sticks, but at least he wouldn't have come off as weird and a little creepy if he'd just been forthright. If this was how it was always going to be when people talked to her, she would really have to see if there was a way to stop being a chibi. And soon.
Accepting the branch, she whispered an almost silent apology to the tree as well as thanking it for the branches. Testing the stick's balance, she found a grip that was comfortable enough and stood waiting.

As soon as Glitnir handed Cruithne her stick, he felt incredibly silly. "Uh... you know, you're right. Why didn't I just say that before? I guess I just wanted to throw in some lead up. Sorry." As she commented on him hurting trees, it added a layer of confusion onto the situation and made him feel a little self-aware. This girl must have been sharp to think such a thing about a simple act that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. "Sorry," he repeated. "I'll be more careful next time." Seeing Cruithne assume her stance, Glitnir assumed his in turn. "Alright, here we go!" He wanted to give her a warning, but most Negas didn't give warnings when they attacked, so jumping into it was the best. He started with a standard thrust towards her chest.

Nodding gravely, she accepted his apologies both for the lead-up and the tree. At his 'here we go' she tried to recall everything her mother had ever said about fencing. Only to realize she was too slow and had a stick poking at her chest.
Swinging her own stick-sword around, she did her best to parry and maybe get in a strike of her own.
Okay. So far, she had to admit, this was almost fun. But she would never admit it to Glitnir.

When Glitnir's stick made contact, he frowned, quickly parrying Cruithne's strike. "I would have given you a warning or slowed down, but the Negaverse isn't likely to give any warnings when they attack." When he thought about it, Glitnir realized that he had lucked out in getting lieutenants who either weren't that threatening or were rather noncommittal about doing their jobs (that one snippy lieutenant with the hat aside). He also realized that poor Cruithne was almost comically outmatched here; he had a good few years of experience with fencing, and he wasn't even sure if the senshi had ever held a weapon. He decided that he probably should ease up on her, just in case. This time, he thrust his stick-sword towards her right arm.

Thinking back to the General with the boomerang, Cruithne had to agree. There hadn't exactly been a lot of warning there. At least, not at the first throw. And this stick fencing wasn't quite matching up with anything she'd seen in movies or read about in books.
This time, she was quick enough to see the strike coming at her arm and she managed to side step and swing her own 'sword' up, wanting to see if she couldn't knock Glitnir's out of his hands or at least jar him a little.
When this was over, she was going to have to talk to her mother about fencing.

The hit ended up blocked, and Glitnir nodded his approval. "Great! You pick this up quickly. Got time for a few more swings?" Not that he really gave Cruithne much time to say no; he was already aiming for her shoulder. This was part of practice too; enemies could employ any manner of distractions before striking. If she could still block him, that meant she was getting into the rhythm; if not, it probably just meant she needed more practice.
