He'd saved Zac from the Haunted House. He'd never even known he'd be there. He was simply on duty, and came across not only the man he did not want to see, but the creature that would once again haunt his dreams.
Zac looked bad. Real bad. Clues and hints about his actions were alarmingly more accurate, now that it seemed like the man had gone to the Haunted House to die. Were that the case, Otto would need to give the man another bump or bruise to cry over.
He waited around until there was word on how he'd faired. Zac was worse for wear, but he'd live.
Otto wasn't sure why he stayed. He stood with his arms firmly crossed over his chest, watching the man rest. His gaze was hard, and he seemed upset just watching him. He wasn't sure if he wanted him to wake up. Wasn't sure if he wanted to hear anything he had to say this time. He wasn't sure of a lot of things.

His chest ached, but oddly worse than that his –throat- hurt. The chest felt more…bruised and heavy, like someone had their hand pressing firmly into the ribs. His neck… it felt like his heart was lodged firmly in his throat, and with every heart beat there was pain, swallowing was an effort, breathing was like trying to suck air through a straw, and he tasted copper in his mouth. His brow furrowed as he struggled back to consciousness. He tried a cough to clear that feeling his throat and it was the worst idea ever, like trying to drink gravel and phlegm. “Atua e mamae….” He hissed, speaking felt like sand paper and it sounded like a stranger. What…. Happened? He wasn’t sure for a moment, and then he remembered fragments, remembered swing and miss, and hands sinking hard into his chest. The next word that came out his mouth was pretty…universal. <********.” … the hell had his cheek hurting though? He raised an arm, his shoulders felt, odd and heavy and brushed a hand over his cheek and felt a cut there he couldn’t remember at all. He hazarded opening his eyes, wondering if he was going to see the haunted house. He didn’t, it was… the infirmary. This was starting to be a Haunted house trend.

Zac had finally woken up, just as Otto felt like he might pass out from boredom. He watched the man come to, slowly and cussing to himself. His heart tightened in his chest, and the desire to flee was sudden. He made sure he was alive. He didn't need to be here, right?
Otto turned to leave, but his his shin against the bed frame of another bed in the room.
"s**t." He cursed, whining and clutching his shin. So much for being sneaky. He tried to rub the pain away, without much avail. He turned to see if Zac had spotted him before righting himself with a resigned exhale of breath.

A –bang- and a curse caught his attention, he sat up, turning his head and winching, brushing a hand against his throat and wincing. When he saw who it was though… It really shouldn’t have been possible for him to look pale with the color of his skin. He lay back with what started as a sigh but sounded just…rattling and odd. “Piss.” He whispered and turned away with determination and a good deal of half whispered swearing. But he deserved this, he deserved this and more, it was a wonder that Otto had come to help him; it was a wonder he was there at all after what he had done.

"Wakey wakey, merry ********' sunshine.." Otto grumbled unhappily, his ire raised after the bump to the leg. "What the ******** were you doin' in the Haunted House with that thing, huh?"
He shouldn't have cared, but dammit he really did. Whether he liked it or not, this man was an important part of his life now; for better or worse.
"That thing.. said you were lookin' to die."

“Tutakina ake , haere atu…. he aha e te reira noa te whakararuraru i a koutou?” The voice was a petulant rasp like he’d been running sandpaper in his throat. "He wairangi koe kei kia kua mahue ... koe ahau ki te mate . Ahau e kore e tino e mohio ki te aha koe e kore e meatia e. He coughed again then, hand clenching into a white knuckled fist, but by god he wasn’t feeling cooperative.

Otto's face seemed to deflate with Zac's slip into his native language. This guy obviously didn't respect Otto enough to answer him properly. Just like the previous morning. His frown seemed defeated, his gaze seeming distant as he looked at the bed ridden man.
"Fine. I get it.." He grumbled. Maybe it was Otto's fault. Zac wasn't in the best condition right now anyway, right? He wasn't looking to be thanked for saving him. Not at all. But Zac had almost gotten himself killed, and he wanted to know why.
"Speak your dumbass moon speak so I can't understand you. Whatever."

Zac made a groan, it was pain from his injuries for certain, but there was more to it, He thumped his head back against the infirmary pillow, facing the ceiling again rather than the wall. His eyes were watering, yeah, that was it, he wasn’t bloody crying. “WHY.” He said finally in English, far too loud and he turned his head to spit, pink. “Why…” He rasped, thick and rasping words. “Why would you help… after what I did to you.” He had to take a moment to catch his breath, that sensation of air through a straw so much stronger after his outburst. Panting for a moment for air he closed his eyes. <********…. Can’t… Breathe.” It wasn’t strictly true… but it was close enough it was a little scary. “God… if I…if you did what I did to me… WHY… why did you help me after that? “

Once again, Zac was scaring him. Otto felt pushed away, and the urge to run again was strong. He felt uncomfortable. So much. Worser yet was that being there might be bad for Zac's health.
Otto swallowed hard.
"Chill out, okay?" He didn't want to get into trouble with the nurses for getting the man riled up. He was coughing blood and couldn't breathe. He really, really should leave...
He didn't know where to begin, even if he didn't care about Zac's health. "Maybe I should wait till you're less... bloody." What the Hell did Zac know that Otto didn't? It made Otto feel horrible.

He rubbed a hand at his eyes like somehow he could deny the fact his eyes were watering.
“Yeah… chill, sure mate.” He said scrubbing at his eyes. God it was hard to breathe. “I just… what I did, I don’t…” he shook his head trying to find the words. Trying to get the air to explain what he’d done.
“I had haunted house duty… “ he coughed again, sucked in a deep breath. “…I did swing at her.”
He didn’t deny that he’d gone there to die, he didn’t honestly think he could, he wasn’t sure at all what he’d been going for, but punishment had absolutely been a component.
“I just…”

"Just what exactly did you do?" Otto had to ask. Zac was so hung up on it. "I don't remember most of it, but I also don't remember... yanno...." He groaned and rolled his eyes, sifting his weight. "Run or nothin'."
God, it made him sick to admit. But he coudn't stand seeing Zac blame himself. Not only that, the alternative was much too terrifying to allow.
"You just didn't do much else. Like port out when you had the chance." Otto huffed, "Do you got any idea what that thing can do?"

“I –raped- you.” He said through gritted teeth.
“What else matters? I ********… I mean, if you don’t…deserve to die at that point.” He shook his head.
He had to take a moment again, just breathing around the rasp in his throat. <******** you, that’s worse than… whatever that house has to offer.”
He swallowed hard, or tried, had to make another go of it.
He was honestly not aware of the fact that he blacked out for a moment, but he did. Spots dancing before his eyes and time slipped slightly sideways before he blinked, blinked again and felt like the world had…tilted slightly though he couldn’t say why.
Bad enough that there were painkillers in his system, he was more and more sure of that because there was a distinct illusion tat the walls were… sliding downwards in a perpetual motion.

"That's not what happened..." Otto's voice shook. Was Zac remembering it differently? Or was Otto changing the facts for himself, to shield his own mind? Zac was a decent guy. There was no way. The guy was just.... Please just let this be a bad dream. Zac was taking this all too wrong. He rememebered it wrong, or not at all. He came to a weird conclusion, and Otto wuld never know why because he was....
....dead?
Zac suddenly stopped moving, and the mixture of high intensity emotions running through his shuddering bones. "H-hey..." Was there a nurse? A Life tech? Someone?
Otto moved closer, his temples sweating in fear. "Dude.... say somethin'..." He nudged his shoulder uncertainly.

“… What?” he blinked looking deeply confused, dizzy. “…sa.. say what?” He squeezed his eyes shut and might have shaken his head but his throat was life fire and blood.
“I don’t….” He started to say, confused… he’d missed something, and he had to have.
“Raped… you,” He found his last thought, he’d missed Otto’s denial.
“Did I…” he realized that he’d missed something, that little sliding feeling had been –something-. “… missed something there.” He admitted with a frown.

Oh thank ********. He didn't accidentally kill a guy.
"No. Why does this keep comin' up.." Otto's poor heart couldn't take it. Not at all. "You didn't force me to do nothin', dumbass." He scolded, so tempted to give Zac a punch to the nose for scaring him.
"You seriously was gunna go get yourself offed cause of this?"
