Super Sailor Canopus was feeling in better spirits, now that the new year had started and she managed to take some measure of control in her life. In a few days, classes would have started up again and Bethany Wyatt would have been dealing with the last stretch of school before graduation, and then college.

College... months ago that had been such a horrifying thought and brought about much excitement and anticipation. But now, it seemed like... nothing. Whatever adventures and hardships that college may have had in store for her were nothing compared to what she had been through as a senshi of the Dark Mirror Court, and what she knew she would continue to battle as the years progressed. She tried to hold on to the hope that Kairatos gave her, but it was difficult. She trusted him, she believed in him, but it was so hard.

What could one knight or one Dark Mirror senshi possibly do to change the flow of the river of fate?

The park, though always active with fights and conflicts of their war, felt a little more empty than usual today, and thus far no other Chaos aura besides her own existed, so she felt safe for the moment. Though it did not last long, as she felt as though she was being followed. She'd turn around, but no one would be there, so she'd carry on her way, trying to ignore that sensation, trying not to succumb to paranoia. Never once did she think to look down at see the ducks that waddled behind her, nipping at the tails of her ribbons.

Christmas had been kind by depositing a semi-amnesic Helicon practically in Emily's lap, and where Emily was practically delighted her old friend was okay, if... Sheltered (WORDS. SHE WANTED WORDS.) she prefferred him to be somewhat okay to miserable and attacking others, or, well, gone.

You took what you got, but then, the ball.

She shuddered, walking along as she stuck her hands in her pockets and peered just slightly downward.

She was so--

And her thoughts were broken by a figure further on the path followed by a small trail of ducks, and she crept closer curiously, before smiling at seeing the Dark Mirror Senshi. Canopus!

Emily had no idea if she went to HITS or what, but Canopus was always a welcome sight, and Emily slipped to a small stand with duck feed and bought a bag before rejoining the train, grinning several seconds before speaking.

"Hey. I think the ducks are hungry." She said gently. "Want to feed them?"

So lost in her thoughts that the sudden call made her jump, but the moment she laid her eyes on the one that called to her, she couldn't stop herself from smiling. It was Emily, from the park when that senshi had switched sides! The sight of Emily's smile was comforting, to say that least, though not as comforting as seeing her alive and well. That was always a blessing!

Though there was a hint of humor in that smile and Canopus would have been left to wonder forever had Emily not said something about it. She had mentioned ducks being hungry, but there were no ducks in the area-

Her train of thought was derailed when she finally felt one of them n** at her bow, missing terribly and nicking the back of her heel. It didn't hurt, but it definitely made her jump and let out a startled 'EEP'. She somehow managed to not spin around and kick the duck, though she had a feeling that would have turned the situation into a blood bath as she finally saw just how many ducks were following her. "Where... did they all come from? How long have they been following me?"

She figured such answers didn't matter, but it was clear what they wanted. When Emily came over with the feed, the flocked towards her, letting out excited and demanding quacks as they gathered around her feet. "Um, sure... I feel bad that they've been following me and expecting food the whole time. I never pictured they be so quiet..."

Emily remained smiling, managing not to giggle when Canopus jumped, and waded through carefully to give her a friendly shoulder pat.

"Not sure how long - I just noticed, but, are you alright? I'm guessing they were quiet because they were being cautious."

Emily eyed the duck whom nipped Canopus, and then shifted feed to one hand, making a tsking motion at the duck before motioning.

"Wanna sit on a bench? We can catch up while we feed them. Y'know - school and stuff."

She eyed the educks again as one curiously nipped at her pants leg, frowning.

"Stop that or I'll leave you in your pond for a small child with plain bread, you."

The small army of ducks were not bothered by Emily's presence at all and if anything they had begun to flock towards her, spotting the bug and knowing enough to know that if either of the two were going to be supplying them with nourishment, it'd be the brunette. This took a weight off of Canopus' shoulder and the pat she felt from Emily was certainly welcoming. "Well, I don't blame them I guess. I'd be cautious too, if someone like me was walking around."

She figured there was little use in disciplining a duck, as the mallard probably didn't even think or realize he had done something wrong. Now that they had the humans attention, then began to quack, wagging their tail feathers with both excitement and irritation, especially when their dinner did not descend on them immediately. Canopus followed Emily to the bench, giggling softly as Emily threatened the nipping ducks. "They're so demanding! I imagine that they'd be like pre-schoolers during snack time at school... though you shouldn't be too harsh on them. I hear they're pretty foul tempered..."

Then she realized what she said, and she covered her face to hide her flustered blush. "Hehehe... foul. Fowl..."

She had to change the subject, before she made another bad duck joke. "How are you doing? Well, I hope?"

:They're certainly not starving." Emily giggled, then giggled at the pun, taking a handful of feed and sprinkling it as she offered Canopus a chance.

"And I see no reason to be afraid of you. You're a good person. As for me, I'm doing okay. How about you? Well, I hope."

The ducks quacked with glee, pushing against one another and charging for the feed that scattered on the ground. Canopus pulled her feet up to her chest, fearing that they might mistake the gold on her boots for feed and try to nibble on them. Now that their attention was on the food and not her, they were less overwhelming, and actually kind of adorable.

She accepted the offer and scattered some more on the ground, smiling softly at Emily's words. "Thank you... I'm sorry if it seems like I'm doing this for attention, but it's really nice to be reminded of these things. I just... I have a lot on my mind, and being reminded that I'm not a bad person... it's all I need."

She was happy to hear that she was doing alright. In this city, in this troubling times, it was always a blessing.

"Better. Had something happen that kind of opened my mind a bit... now the problem lies in reigning my thoughts back into reality. Surviving as best as I can, trying to figure out how I'm going to fix things."

"Nothing wrong with needed attention, but I don't think you are." Emily smiled to Canopus gently, placing the bag between them to smile, watching the ducks.,

"Con't profess to be great advice, but I trust you, Canopus. You have this amazing timing. We keep running into one another when, well, stuff's getting rough, but you're kind and pleasant. You're a ray of light. And I'd like to think someone I can consider a friend." Emily said, and cast her another smile. "And if I everwork out how to help you out, don't hesitate to use it. And if you ever need a shoulder, like you said last time. You can probably find me through those mirrors of yours in my place."

The ducks might as well have been in heaven now, with all the feed they were getting, and Canopus beamed at their excitedness, though more so at Emily's kind words. She wasn't sure what to think or make of them, but she had to hide her face behind her knees to hide just how profusely she was blushing. Her cheeks were bright red and hot, but it was a good feeling, one she wasn't used to feeling anymore.

"I... I never thought of it that way," Canopus said with a small, but beaming smile, and she mulled over the compliment she received, trying to think of some way she could use it to her advantage or thank Emily for it. Maybe that was it, she thought. Maybe that was her calling? It was still too soon to know. "You're such a good friend, though your luck is... questionable. I wish there was a way I could keep you and the rest of the citizens safe... you shouldn't have to get dragged into this stupid war."

She had mentioned mirrors, and she then looked dead at Emily, her expression very, very serious. "Um... if anyone asks you to go through a mirror, and it's not me, say no, okay? I mean, it's one thing if they're trying to pull you out of danger, but if they talk about bringing you over, or sounds like they're recruiting, say no. Do you understand?"

"I try. Normally I'm terrible at people." Emily admitted, before responding to the luck comment.

"My luck is... Weird. Even bad situations turn around... They hurt though." She grinned. There - a smile. That was much better, and Emily offered her own.

"I can promise that. So there's more people in with the ability to use mirrors?"

This was good to know, in truth. "Maybe we should use a code?"

"Well, maybe between the two of us, we can better our chances of good luck in the future?" Canopus said after some thought, grabbing another handful of feed and tossing it at the pleased water fowl. She had lost the mallard that was nipping at her clothing among the crowd, but it was for the best. As adorable and endearing he was, she wouldn't dare bring home a duck to the dormitories. The sisters would have a cow! A holy cow... "It's worth a try, I think. I don't know... I feel like this year might be different, though. Like... 2015 will be a better year for everyone. At least I hope so..."

Patting her gloved hands free of the feed that clung to her hands, she explained as best as she could, feeling bad that she had to address her own court as though it were some great evil or a disease but the thought of one of them tricking Emily and dragging her into this life. It made her ill. "There's an entire court full of them. They dress kind of like me, in black, with sheer fabric, see through like this. They mean well, and they're not bad or evil. Just... this isn't the kind of life I want for you, Emily. You deserve better than this."

Then, she considered a code, and she answered. "Mallard. How about that? I'll tell my court that code, and you can tell them and they won't try and recruit you. They'll know you're my friend and they wouldn't harm you."

"Pretty sure between us we can think of something." Emily grinned, and tossed the ducks a handful of feed contentedly, nodding thoughtfully before sighing.

"I appreciate it. And - I know a couple people. I can let them know not to attack you, or anything, too. Except the Negaverse.." Emily paused, coughing awkwardly. "Sorry. I don't - I don't have any magic but I keep having the worst luck with running into the wrong places at the wrong times. You learn stuff."

She looked awkward, rubbing the back of her head before wiping feed from her hair awkwardly.

"Mallard is a good code. And you... Know if I can ever do anything for you I will, right? I mean. That's what friends do, right?"

Not fail. Not fail like she had. Not--

She dispersed the thought quickly, shivering.

She wouldn't fail - not next time.

Hearing Emily even mutter the name of the Negaverse made her seethe, but she tried not to let herself get too caught up in her disgust in the organization. The fact that Emily said their name and knew who they were only showed what kind of state this entire city was in, and Canopus couldn't understand how anyone could be fooled to think the White Moon were the terrorists! 'Maybe this is a city full of morons...'

Herself included, as she had believed it too, once upon a time. How things had changed! "Then it's good to know that we have each others back, Emily. That... you have no idea how happy that makes me. Maybe we'll turn our luck around, somehow... it's worth a shot."

She was pleased to know that she was fine with their code name, and she flashed her a beaming smile, before standing from the bench and carefully treading around the ducks. They were far more interested in the feed than the Mirror senshi this time, and she had to take advantage of that if they wanted to escape this horde of ducks with their lives. "Then it's settled. I'll go tell my court immediately! Do you want me to accompany you home, Emily? I wouldn't mind at all..."

"I know we can." Emily grinned, nodding, then flashed as smile back.

"I'm okay. I appreciate it, though." Emily admitted. "Maybe halfway?" She offered gently. "Mostly my family..."

Who knew how they'd take a senshi walking her home?

Maybe a few weeks ago, Canopus might have been offended or hurt for someone to turn down what she thought was a generous offer, fearing that her reputation as a Dark Mirror Senshi might have forever stained her image for all of the remaining years of her life. But having Emily agree to go halfway with her and her reasoning was enough to soothe her fears. "I understand completely... I don't want to make them worry or anything, and I can imagine it'd be an awkward situation for you to have to discuss should they catch us."

It was a fair compromise, and Canopus waited patiently for Emily to join her, hoping that the ducks would have remained preoccupied long enough for the both of them to get a clear getaway. Tonight was definitely a kind night thus far, thanks to Emily and the sight of the happily munching ducks. Things weren't so bad in Destiny City, she told herself. At least, there were certain people in the city that were worth protecting, and she was looking at one of them.
