Horace wondered if, in fact, he should shout for spars like a merchant hawking his wares. "Step right up, c'mon and beat cha up onnna right young dumb thing, Toughen 'is hide!" He pinched his arm. He certainly needed toughening up - this island was full of people in the prime of their life, physically fit. No... better than normal physically fit, stringer, faster. It was like being given a new suit and told to 'grow into it'. {you are chosen for potential, not for your current state.}{What if I... can't..}{cannot what? live up to My expectations? you will because there is no other choice, horace.} Abruptly, Horace swung around and nearly collided with a young woman. The only noise he made was a strangled sound of surprise, but his hands reflexively rose to clasp her shoulders. .

Lydia was, apparently, attracted to the idea of following close behind rather tall and interesting looking men like a bee might be attracted to honey. She had sneaked up behind him rather quietly, with comically appropriate, long-strided (for her), tip toe steps, a large grin on her pale and lightly freckled face. She had no idea where this strange, and new (to her) man was going, but that was the fun part! She would follow him, traipsing along silently in his shadow, and see how long it would be before she would get caught. Whenever he might have turned, she tried to turn with him, keeping herself out of sight until he stopped, right in the middle of the training field. Of course, there were others around at this point, either in the midst of a spar or beating their weapons against dummies. Her attention was divided as her squinted gaze roamed around, and she just reached up to the top of her head for her glasses when suddenly the man she was following turned, and nearly knocked her off of her feet as she startled, yelped, and stumbled a couple of steps backwards. "Oh! Oh pardon me I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have been standing so close!" She held out her hand, which was, unfortunately, covered by the sleeve of a sweater that looked much too warm to be wearing on a tropical island. "Hello! I'm Lydia. Are you aware that you bare a keen resemblance to a..." She stopped herself, a faint blush coming to her cheeks before she was grinning again. "Never mind! Are you looking for somebody to spar with by chance?"

Horace had, unfortunately, been far too preoccupied to notice Lydia beforehand. Dr. Jannisari had, and also had not seen fit to inform Horace. Warily, he shook her sweater sleeve before looking her over. sigh. Another adorable girl. He was going to get a cavity from all the cute on this island - not that he was complaining. And then, oh, she blushed. Horace tilted his head. "I'm Horace and just who do I look like?" Her grin was infectious and despite his earlier moody thoughts, he found himself similing in return. He crossed his arms. "Better tell me so I can go compare," he drawled out. Horace was... intensely stubborn at some times, and he wanted to hear who. Partly from curosity, partly because he wondered why it would make her blush. A secret tendre? "And yes, I wouldn't mind a spar. Ladies first, of course. After you tell me why you blushed." Seussi idk why he's being so dogged about it lol sorry. if she's not wanting to talk, she can just smack him |:

Lydia continued to blush as he questioned her on her near slip. "Ah yes, well...not exactly a who, but more of a what." She admitted, biting down on her bottom lip while trying to stifle herself from grinning too wide, or from well, speaking at all right now. Of course, she couldn't hope to stop either of these things from happening and in moments, she was grinning. Still red in the face, but grinning from ear to ear. "OKAY! Well, you see, the thing is, with your body structure, height, build, weight, and that hair." She pointed, her grin widening further. "It reminds me of a chupacabre. Well, the way I imagine they look like at least. You know, with the spikes on top of their head? I always liked to think that they sort of flopped over to one side, like a rooster cone!" She giggled then, and gave her head a shake, multi-toned blue and white curls bouncing around her face and shoulders. "So! Spar time now, yes?" She grinned more, and in her hand was soon summoned a cat o'nine tails whip with faintly glowing orangey-red runes.

Horace stared at her for what seemed like hours and was likely only seconds. Maybe a minute. A chupacabra? Horace wilted just a bit and resisted the urge to self-consciously tug on the ends of his hair. "Well, I'm certainly not a goat-sucker," he muttered. The image was funny, but he just couldn't appreciate it as such. He summoned Jannisari and cocked a brow at her weapon. "You've already whipped my ego thoroughly," he groaned and spread his arms. "Take the first shot upon my body, too." Humiliation play.

Oh dear! Lydia wondered if she might have upset him with her odd comparison, as he first stared at her, and then seemed to just...not seem all that enthusiastic. But, at least he hadn't given her a look of absolute disgust! That was a plus! And she would take that to mean that he wasn't too offended by what she had to say. "Oh, I am sure you are not! Unless, well, you enjoy goats milk, than I guess, technically you are!" She grinned, and giggled into her sleeve, and, when he summoned his weapon, her eyes widened as she stared. "Ooooooooooooohhhhhhh, how nice! How very, very nice! Okay well, if you're ready than!" He gave her the go ahead, and she giggle snorted quite profusely at his joke, she also readied herself, widening her stance, wiggling her butt, sticking out her tongue. "Okay here we go." And with that she gave him a light whip, the barbed tails aimed at his arm. "How's that?" HP: 40 Damage: 3

"I'm ready, Ms. Cryptozoologist." Alright, he could see it again - Lydia had that natural sort of cuteness that blossomed when she laughed. It wasn't a cute laugh, not really; it had too many snorts. But it fit her perfectly: this girl who followed a guy because she thought he looked like a chupcabra. Horace wondered how far she would've followed him. He snorted himself, watching her. "You look like a kitten, wiggling your a** like th- ouch!" Her whip stung, although it did not real damage. But still, he gave her an exaggerated pout. The pout vanished as he quickly moved forward, close to her. Horace grabbed that mass of curly hair and pulled as his other hand moved lower. He tried to match the sting of her weapon, scraping the small blades along the top of her thigh. He danced back, releasing her hair, and wrinkled his nose at her. "I'm sure you can do better." "Ha! You got me! Ok, let me do you now." She grinned, as happy as ever while looking him over. "College student? Majoring in anthropology?" She liked guessing games! Especially since she liked to study and learn more about various people and things, and this was just a fun way to do it! After he little lash had hit it's mark, she was feeling rather proud of herself. However, when her opponent made a startling grab for her mass if curls, she let out a very unladylike sqwack. Nobody had ever grabbed her hair before! "Hey now, not fair! I can't reach yours!" Actually, she probably could if she really tried, but that seemed like far too much effort. His weapon grazed along her thigh, painful but not in a serious way. When he let go, she had an opening to retaliate. It was time to punish him for that naughty hair pulling! Darting forward, she lashed at him again, spinning the tails in the air before striking across his abdomen. HP: 36 Damage: 7

"That's why I keep it tied back - gotta keep it out of shorty's reach. There's only certain times I want my hair pulled, after all." He winked at her, but his grin died as her whip lashed against his stomach. Horace hissed. Recovering quickly, he lunged at her, catching her around the waist with one arm and ramming his fist in her stomach. Match force for force. "Bzzzt, wrong! I'm only 17 - try again. Lydia." Whatever that wink was suggesting, it flew right over Lydia's head, though she did blush pink once more and begin to titter as if she totally got it. When he came at her once again, this time with an answer to her guess, she let out a loud gasp. "Oh no, not another one! Well, I will have you know that I have met 17 year olds that have gone to college." Another gasp was issued, but this time at the fist that slammed into her gut as she doubled over, unable to do much else except hang limp in his grasp. "A hobo?" Was her second guess, before she bit down on her bottom lip and attempted to stomp on his foot. Which was totally not effective at all. HP: 29 Damage: 0

He frowned. "Now you're just trying to be insulting." Horace crossed his arms and shot her a mullish look. "Horace Nokoni, age 17, senior in high school, looking to major in I-don't-know with a minor in it-doesn't-matter-anymore-does-it.' He kicked a pebble at her. "Does that clear things up or am I still a homeless chupacabra?" HP: 30/40 Damage: zip Seussi they keep rolling such similar numbers lol

She gave him a rather cheerful smile. "No, but really! Most of the youngest members of Deus are runaways, teens that are already thought to be dead! Or, in other cases, have already begun college. Did you know that in some countries, such as England, children finish school at the age of 16? I mean, obviously you don't sound like you're from England, so I couldn't presume as much, but you get the idea! So, how did you manage to get here than, hrm?" She asked, because it couldn't be easy, for a minor such as himself, to leave his family for a life like this. She was honestly just curious! "Come on, you share your story, and I'll share mine." She tacked on, her smile broadening as she dodged the pebble with a squeak, before remembering that they were in the middle of a spar, and whipping at him with her weapon once more. Her whip sliced at him, but he (carefully, and with great concentration) didn't even flinch. Lydia had spoken a lot of words and rather quickly and really, she could have said all that with about three less sentences. "Welp, I'm from Oklahoma, and who wouldn't want to leave? You?" He circled her carefully as he spoke. "Sorry, I don't have a cool story." Suddenly, he darted around in the opposite direction. Horace slammed his shoulder into her back, trying to knock her over. Why did nobody ever have a cool story.
Lydia was about to respond, but wasn't given the chance. There was an explosion of pain, and then, quite suddenly, more pain as her bony a** collided with the hard ground. The first strike she had only made an oof sound, the wind knocked out of her as her knuckles clenched tight around the handle of her weapon. However, when she fell, she let out a low whine. Owwwwwwwwwww. Scuffling back to her feet as quickly as she could, she sent a roundhouse lash towards Horace's legs as she struggled to regain her footing, hoping to deter him from attacking her when she was down, or putting her back on the ground. "Missing person or fake death?" She asked, clearly not satisfied enough with his answer to give her own. HP: 21 Damage: 8
