They say Christmas is a time for wonder and awe. A time when good and joyous things took place for everyone around. However, the word of the hour had to be one simple thing: unexpected. Delilah was standing in the gently falling snow holding a box that a so called ‘Santa’ had just thrusted into her hands. He hadn’t said a word but handed it over and disappeared with a twinkle in his eye. Neatly wrapped in shiny red paper with a green bow, the box was strangely heavy for its small size. The card that she had found under the bow simply read ‘Naughty or Nice?’. Something Delilah had found that to be the oddest part of the package. Turning it around for a second time, Delilah made her way towards a large street tree and out of the main walkway. ”Well now, isn’t this a bit different.” She chuckled as she fingered the card in her left hand and stood over the box. Some time ago, she would have taken the box and just left it there or in a trash can. Giving what she knew about the dangers that lived in the city, Delilah figured she was the best to open it. Save anyone else from danger, or so she told herself. Kneeling down, delicately, her fingers pulled on the long ribbon working the bow free until she could slide the lid off the box. At first, all was quiet. Kneeling there with a puzzled look, it took a moment before Delilah leaned over and looked in. ”NAUGHTY!” A high pitched voice screamed out as a little man in green pointy shoes jumped from the box. He was covered in bells and jingled as he danced in front of the woman that had dropped from her knees onto her backside staring bug eyed at the creature. She was in shock as it dove towards her left bag, rummaged around and grabbed onto something. What it pulled out brought Delilah back to focus. ”HEY! Drop that!” Delilah grasped for her sketch book but the elf looking being was too quick. Giggling as it jumped from her reach, the little guy gave her a bow and started to run down the stretch from her not carrying at all about the woman giving chase.

The shout drew his attention, and Xanthus turned to look over his shoulder at the sound, expecting to see someone particularly fiesty after a mugger, which, for Destiny City, arguably would have been fairly tame. It wasn't a mugger, it wasn't particularly tame, but it was uniquely weird in a city that regularly saw it's events attacked and monsters destroying property. "What the f...." He started, before it hit him that maybe, mugger or not, he should do something, lunging to grab at the jingling imp. It wasn't human, that was for damn sure, and it clearly had something it shouldn't, even if it probably wasn't someone's energy or a star seed. "C'Mere you!"

Delilah was not far behind the little 'elf' like creature but with every step she took, it seemed to take twelve. "How...so fast..." She gasped for air trying to keep up with it.
Just when she felt herself giving up, Delilah caught sight of someone diving towards the little thing. Dancing around his hands, the 'elf' seemed to laugh before coming to a stop in front of him. Turning its head from the man to the woman, the creature seemed to dance around the blonde, bells ringing as it moved.

Xanthus grunted as he hit ground instead of his target, scraping his hand on the sidewalk with a frustrated growl at the little creature that danced around him in apparent mockery. "Oh I suppose you think you're hilarious huh?" He demanded of it, winding up and making another lunge. "Gimmethat!" He demanded, though he had no idea what 'that' even was right now. "FreakinJinglerat!" Sirene Naiads Way to be filled with Holiday Joy there Xanthus

The elf jumped again, keeping the woman that was coming up to them in his line of sight as well. Dancing around the fallen man, seemed to be keeping time to "Jingle Bells" of all things....
"I never liked elves!" Delilah breathed out as she came up next to the fallen man. It was now that the 'elf' stopped, looked at them both and gave a bow.
He reached over and grabbed something off the man's head. A hat? A few hairs?
Either way, it yanked and started off now with both items towards what appeared to be a street covered in christmas lights and window displays. Once at the entrance, it stopped, put the book and item down, gave a second bow and disappeared leaving two bells behind.
Ryuthulhu At least it isn't bah-humbug yet

It was just a knit cap with a button for a race track pinned to it, but damn it, it was his hat, and it had come from the old apartment and his old life, and he was pretty sure the ugly, warm thing had been a gift. He just couldn't remember who from. "What the Hell??" He demanded, clapping a hand to his suddenly cold head, and scrambled to his feet. "I'm with you." He growled, as she caught up, expressing an somewhat dour opinion on Santa's labor force. He slowed to a jog as he saw the creature stop ahead, put their items down along with the bells... and vanish. Teleported? ... Weird. Was it some kind of Negaverse thing? It would be just like them to use what was supposed to make the season to wreck someone's day. "Well... that was... surreal.... Even for DC." He noted, as they drew up close to the items, stooping to pick up his hat again, and, warily... one of the bells as well, giving it a tentative jingle as though he expected it would summon a tiny army of weapon wielding jingle bell covered nightmares. "Is your book ok?" Suddenly thinking it might be considerate, he moved to scoop that up as well and hold it out to her, tapping the hat against his leg to shake off any grime from it's rude snatching.

She was breathing hard but it did not stop her from narrowing her eyes at what she had just seen. The elf had led them do a street full of Christmas magic and disappeared. "I agree with you now. Strange things happen in this city but this might win in oddness."
One more deep breath and she stood up completely. "Thank you." She smiled, forced and polite but still a kind smile. "I don't know what I would do had I lost that. It's nearly half a semester worth of work in there and..." She stopped when she noticed the hat.
"Oh. It got you as well?" Delilah inquired as she stared from the hat to the bells.

"Yeah just my hat. Someone gave it to me ages ago. Sentimental and all that." He held it up briefly for her examination with a shrug. "I... lost touch with a lot of people from back then so it would be hard to replace." Lost touch. That was a nice way of putting it, he'd have to remember that.

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. They must have been important to you if you still have it." Delilah gave him a smile. It was meant to be warm and understanding. Of course people had come and gone out of her life. It always happened. Most of them, she had tried to keep up with but only one had worked out. Now that one was back in her life.
Noticing the bells, she reached down and picked one up herself. "Strange little thing. All this because I opened a box. Guess Santa likes to play tricks. " She commented and shook the bell. "Sorry I got you involved. Christmas is a odd time. Especially in this city."

"Welcome to Destiny City, right?" He chuckled, putting his hat back on his head. "That's it? You opened a box and a demented light fingered elf popped out?" He asked, with a confused blink. He'd have sworn it was some sort of weird negaverse plot except... well... as far as weirdness... it was very mild. "I guess so... At least the lights are nice right?" He didn't know what else to do with the bell so he pocketed it. He could pass along some amusing stories later.

"Should I include the fact 'Santa' handed me the box?" Delilah chuckled as she cast a look to the side. Strange night. "I guess it's what I get for opening something that could have been a bomb."
Delilah felt the awkwardness growing and decided if she was going to ask, better do it now. "Well, that little thing worked so hard to get us to this decorated part of the city. Want to join me for a walk? I'm Delilah by the way." She added with a warm smile. "Studio has me so busy that I nearly forgot it was Christmas. The lights are a nice reminder..."

"Wow, someone was really dedicated to a weird prank..." Xanthus blinked, still puzzled about how any of this had come together. The santa outfit... those were dime a dozen... but tiny light fingered elf thing? Nooooot so much. "I could deal with a walk. Nice to meet you." He offered a hand to her in greeting. "I'm Xanthus. Weird name, I know. Leave it that my parents were pretty old fashioned." Intensely old fashioned, since the people who had first named him that had been gone for about a thousand years. "It is a nice reminder." If you didn't assume it was a further trap, which was an easy assumption in this city where pretty much every damn thing was a trap.

Turning towards the lights, Delilah cocked to head. "Xanthus? You know, I though my name was old but I think you do win. Is there a meaning behind the name?"
She was glancing up at the lights, dodging a few people. "What has you out tonight? Christmas shopping?"

"I'm pretty sure there is but I haven't looked it up or anything." He admitted, and tugged at a strand of blond hair. "I... think... it means Golden. I think. But uh, no I was just going for a walk. You?"

"Simple enough then." She smiled before he directed the attention back to her.
Blinking, she turned and started looking for something. "Shoot, what time is it?" As she gave up, she went for her cell phone to see. "I apologize Xanthus but all this holiday madness has made me forget I have a meeting to make. Finals wait for no woman."
She looked back at him and gave a smile. "Do not accept any strange boxes."
