This is a PRP between my Nadezhda and Chitsa Wakan Catori. Please do not post without permission. Nadya stared into the half-frozen river, her thoughts with the previous spring. The river was calmer, the mud was frozen, but she was certain this was the place. Her heart ached just thinking about it, and her eyes stung with hot tears that seemed to burn in comparison to the winter air. The cerynei hadn't thought of her sister in quite some time, and she didn't like to. It seemed as if the fire and flood had been so far away, when in reality not even a year had passed. Soon, though, the time would come and the paranoia would begin. What if it happened again? The bark on the trees was dry and cracking, and the river seemed awfully low, even for the frigid season. Her mind went back to waking up in the muck, scared and confused, her sister's bloody face staring back at her. Her heart raced and her body grew stiff.

The frozen ground and frigid air were a welcome transition for the dark mare, who disliked the heat of the sun on her back and the constant crunch of leaves beneath her feet. This, it seemed, was far more Chitsa's speed, and she manipulated the cold shadows from the trees by the river with glee. All about her they danced, their branches intertwined, and she grinned. Though her power was limited, this was by far her favorite little trick, and it brought her much entertainment. Not long into her trickery, another mare, nearly equal to Chitsa's tiny size, wandered into the midst of her dancing shadows. Her brow furrowed as she enveloped the other mare in shadow, but she seemed either not to notice or not to care. The hybrid huffed at the lack of attention to her game, and grunted rather loudly in an attempt to be heard.

Turquoise eyes widened at the sudden noise, and the mare suddenly noticed how dark it had gotten. She furrowed her brows as she looked up at the sky, which was clear and blue. Confused, she turned her gaze toward the noise, but she saw nothing but darkness. Her heart fluttered as she imagined the possibility of a hungry kalona or skinwalker, and she began to shake nervously. Knowing that escape was probably impossible should that be the case, she spoke. "Uh... Hello?" Still she saw nothing, but the darkness around her lessened and a playful giggle could be heard from the shadows. This only made her more uneasy.

Chitsa grinned at the sudden attention from the cerynei, and her eyes lit up. Realizing that she had forgotten to recall the shadows, she giggled, and the shadows of the trees returned to normal. She dug her claws into the frozen ground, only managing to scrape the surface of the ice. With the obviously frightened greeting by the young mare, Chitsa sighed. "Oh, no, no! Don't be afraid! I'm not scary... Well... Sort of." She stepped out of the shadows and smiled meekly. Now that she thought of it, maybe her shadow game wasn't the best way to start off the conversation. "Sorry about that."

Nadya stared in awe at the dark mare who suddenly seemed to appear out of nowhere. It took her quite some time to take in the entire silhouette, from the claws to the strange cracks which seamed to leak an unidentified smoky substance. But what stood out to her most was the eyes. Something about them was so alluring, so new. They, like the cracks in her back, seemed to gush smoke, only it seemed to glow. The cerynei seemed to completely forget her woes as she stared into them, and somehow they drew her closer. She mumbled quietly, echoing the other mare's words. "No... Not scary..." It took her another few moments to come to from her sudden trance, and she shook her head. "I'm sorry... I don't mean to stare, you're just so... Different." Nadya had never seen anything quite like the mare, coming from the small herd of cerynei and cerynei crosses that she did. There wasn't much diversity there, it seemed. "Was that you? The shadows, I mean."

Chitsa Wakan Catori was becoming rather used to the reaction she was gaining by this mare, it seemed. She waited several minutes for the other mare to seemingly snap out of it, and simply grinned at the statement. "Different isn't always so bad, I don't think. It makes life a little more interesting. Or at least that's what I've found." She chuckled lowly and circled the other mare carefully. The smoke trailed behind her as she went, but it had no aroma. The hybrid took a keen interest in the other mare's jewels, and stared at them for a long time. "Oh, those little old tricks with the shadows? I've got to keep myself entertained, I suppose. There's really not a whole lot to do around these parts during this time of the year. It keeps me from going mad, see." A sly smirk was plastered onto her face as she awaited the other mare's response. Cenotaph was away, and that meant she could play her little games again.

Nadya's eyes widened as a thought suddenly came to her. Sharp claws, enchanting eyes, dark body, and those horns! Maybe this mare was out to eat her, after all! It was too late, though. The petite mare was already being circled, sized up, and put into the other mare's catalog of meat in the freezer. And what a freezer this was! Her heart began to race up her throat and into her mouth as she thought about it. She spoke quickly after the other mare, terrified of the possible outcome. "Mad? No, no, we wouldn't want that!" Her tail drooped and her ears pinned back as she looked for a way out. But there was none right now. She would have to keep the other occupied as she thought of a plan.

The mare frowned a bit as the younger being became obviously uneasy. Her ears drooped as well and she sighed. "Oh, please don't be afraid. I told you I wasn't scary, and I don't mean to be." She stretched out a claw to her guest. "See, you can look at them. They may look frightening, but there's nothing on them but dirt. I mean, I do eat meat, but I wouldn't have a reason to take out someone as large as me. I don't get quite that hungry, honest." She huffed, feeling her game was nearly at an end. Intimidation was never the goal, but it was somehow always the outcome. She just wanted to show someone her dancing trees. After all, she had been working on them for quite some time.
