(( FAILURE, NOT EVEN CLOSE. ))

Being a master and not having to go out on the field anymore gave her so much more freedom. She hadn’t started teaching yet so Esme had a lot of time on her hands. A lot. Since she’d decided she couldn’t live on the Celestial Plane she had returned to her little hideout on an island. She enjoyed the solitude a lot recently; people always had some kind of look to give her when she was around. Granted she couldn’t blame them after Ekundayo had gone missing… Out here people would leave her alone and Minerva could come and visit her whenever she wanted it.

The Peisio gazed out to the sea with a smile on her face, the sun had just reached its highest point in the sky and the water was crystal clear. Not a cloud in the sky either. From the corner of her eye Esme caught sight of some movement on the sea. She was close to the other islands the Peisio dragons enjoyed sun bathing on but not close enough that she would see one now. She squinted against the sun and drew closer until she had water up to her knees. It looked like… Triefen?

Red hated hated HATED ocean travel. She wanted to go back to Ayr and show off to her b***h of a sister, but she wished she could just grow wings and fly it because... ughhhh. Ocean... travel...

She was a creature of stone and cliffs, not water, and she wanted to be anywhere but its swaying waves and nausea-inducing swells.

Fortunately, her dingy little transport back to Ayr had a stopover at an island and, while it took forever to get home, that meant a respite from the endless misery that was ocean travel. The sun beat down on her slumped form as she loped along the beach, willing her seasickness to subside. Sand was, at least, solid but she had been at sea long enough for the world to roll around her like reality was tossing and turning in a tide.

She'd been told not to go too far – the island was uninhabited and, while they were of the Tribe and wouldn't exactly leave her completely, they also wouldn't look for her forever. And she wasn't – she knew she could find her way back. She squinted as a figure, dressed in white, came into view.

    Uninhabited, huh.

Feeling particularly ornery in her misery and perfectly happy to lash out at someone, she looked at them with ornery whitened eyes. “Who th' hell are you?!”

Esmeralda turned around fast hands going up in defense out of reflex. Once she saw that it was another Dovaa she relaxed and waved with a smile. She knew that there was a boat that stopped by, that’s how she got supplies here after all, but she`d never seen any of its passengers actually roam the island. Esme could hardly claim the place as her own, but she simply didn’t expect anyone. Ever. “I’m Esmeralda, I live here.” Which probably sounded silly because she lived right in the middle of nowhere. “Who are you?” She tilted her head slightly at the girl who seemed no older than Minerva. Esme glanced back towards the Triefen who had disappeared from view. “Darn I missed the Treifen…” She sighed and returned her attention on the girl.

Esme can totally whup her a**

“Th' name's Red.” said the young Dovaa, though there was nothing red about her blonde hair, her black Notbjaovin pelt, her pale eyes, her white tattoos, or her icy horns. Nothing red at all. “An' nobody lives here, so says the captain o' the ship, and he ain't stupid...” Red gave her a suspicious glare, though it was honestly none of her business. “So, Es'malda...” she said, mangling the woman's name - she'd mangle her own name if it would get a rise. “You can't live here, 'acause you're all dressed up and you'd get them... Mussed.” Red leered with disdain, her opinion of not getting dirty very clear. “Out here in th' middle o' nowhere.” she gestured to the island.

An idea was coming to mind, that maybe a fight would settle her nerves and stomach. But Red was always spoiling for a fight, and would take any excuse. So, despite the fact that the woman was much, much older, had wings, and had an aura of power that gave even Red pause, Red was willing to be an a**.

“Yer Peisio, right?” said Red, getting into a belligerent stance, “I'm Aiskala.” she said, forming hooked icicle claws on the backs of her hands, “I bet I can take you.”

Esmeralda was briefly amused as she looked over this Red. Young, probably Aiskala by the color of her eyes and horns nothing that she could not handle if it came down to it. However, she did not know any Dovaa that attacked their own, so it was a little odd to see one here giving her such attitude. No respect for her elders, Esme would have sighed but she smiled instead when Red mentioned the captain. Of course that man wouldn’t know a thing about who lived here, especially If she hadn’t told anyone that she was actually building her home her. Nevertheless, Red did not need to know that.

“You’re free to believe whatever it is you want Red,” Esmeralda shrugged. “Maybe you shouldn’t believe everything that people tell you.” It was a little naïve in her eyes for someone to do that because she had once thought everything that people said as true. Esmeralda did not bother replying to Red, it was obvious she was Peisio and the other was Aiskala. If this girl planned on actually attacking her than she was quite foolish. And to prove her point, Esmeralda moved back until she had water up to her ankles and threw some water at Red playfully. “If you say so.”

    Challenge accepted.

Red dodged the water and pounced, claws out and grinning. She was ready to go, ready to fight, and already she felt better as she glided through the air.

Except apparently, she'd miscalculated. Or Esme dodged. Either way, her pounce was far enough off that...

    -Splash-

She fell into the water. She came up drenched, ice crystals forming and crackling around her with her magic. She preferred the dodging explanation, of course – because then it wasn't her fault.

So, she complemented it. ”Nice one!” she said, belligerent once more. Or, at least, trying to through the skein of ice that kept cracking around her from the salt...

It was the most amusing thing ever. As Red pounces, Esmeralda only had to snap out her wings and fly up to the side. The Peisio stayed in flight, the girl would not be able to get her if she was out of reach. “You know, it’s quite rude to attack someone for no reason.” Esme grabbed some water and tried to capture Red with it so she could slowly drag her further and further into the water. “I don’t think it’s very smart to fight a Peisio when there is so much water around you. After that she’d just let the water take care of the rest! Maybe splash the girl around.

No one had ever accused Red of being polite or smart, so with a look of feral glee, she pounced again... only to be pulled back by the water. ”H-hey!” she snarled in protest, trying to claw her way out, ”That's cheating!”

Well fine! She'd try a little cheating of her own. With a growl, she scooped up some of the water in her hand and made a throwing motion, struggling against the water's pressure around her as she released it.

Crystalline droplets became hard balls of ice, hurtling like painful snowballs at Esme...

    Take that, old lady.

“I would hardly call that cheating.” Pfft, cheating! If little Red could not take the heat maybe she shouldn’t have started what she couldn’t handle. “Maybe if you settled down I’d explain what I am doing here and who it is exactly you’re trying to hurl things at.” As the balls came at her, Esmer dropped back down onto the sand and ducked just as some of the balls flew past her head. “You’re not going to be able to hit me, so I suggest you stop.” Esmeralda put her hands on her hips and regarded Red with a expression that said ‘try me’.

And with that, a new thread?

Settle down was not a part of her vocabulary, and Red was all too happy to rise to a challenge. Any challenge. No matter how stupid.

She struggled against the encircling water, but wasn't able to get free, though she clawed at it with her icicle claws.

Eventually, though, Esmeralda's power was such that she just could not move. She struggled against it and failed, her snowy eyes furious. Her mouth was blocked by water as she growled, though she could breathe through her nose, and not being able to curse at the peisio made it even worse.

Glowering huffily, she glared at Esmeralda.

This was about as settled down as the young Dovaa was going to get.
