Tendaji was beyond settling in and was now beginning to feel like he was truly part of the pride. Though there were still many others he didn't know and hadn't met, his confidence was growing by the day.
He had even partaken in eating some of the mint which many chose to inebriate themselves with. It had been a bizarre experience to say the least.
When it came to thralls, he wasn't sure how he felt. He knew that he wasn't as brutish as some in the pride, but nor was he meek. Perhaps he would have one, some day.
He thought of Aoife and her wounds with a pang of sadness and shook his head. He doubted he could do that.
But he wanted to go viking for the first time, that's what he wanted to do!

Rustleif had a lot to think about these days. Good and bad. On the good side of things, there was a male that had not only noticed her, but seemed nice and respectful, and like someone she wanted to spend more time with. She felt all giddy and embarrassed when she thought about him, and he was not even around for her to get bashful over.
On the other side of things, her brother had been ill for the last few days, and she was worrying endlessly about him. She was doing her best to take care of him, but their limited knowledge of herbal remedies had so far not produced many results. He was feeling a little better, but there was no way of knowing if the plant she had found for him was helping him get better or just letting him sleep easier and feel better without actually fixing the problem.
Whatever was wrong with him, she hoped he would get better soon.
Spotting a male not too far ahead of her, Rust paused for a moment. Some could be real jerks, so she wondered if going around him and not making conversation was a better idea, then spotted a herb she wanted under his paw. She sighed, moving forward and clearing her throat.
"Uh. Hello."

"Hello there." Tendaji kept his voice a little lower than usual. He was wary that his friendliness and trying to fit into the new pride may set him back or give others the impression that he was weak, which was not the case. If he truly was weak, then he wouldn't even be here.
He found there was a mixture of characters here, and this was not the first lioness that had approached him with a greeting, though it was impossible to know her intentions. She looked like a true member of the pride, some had that almost rugged look about them, her mane longer and plaited to the side.
"I don't believe we've met, I am Tendaji." He stayed rooted to the spot, but bobbed his head a little, looking over the female, she didn't look too mean, he supposed.

Rust shook her head and offered him a smile, trying not to look timid, since she, unlike her brother, knew the importance of being strong and setting the right tone. She, at least, tried not to shy away from things or other lions, not wanting to seem weak or get herself a reputation for weakness.
"My name is Rustleif, though most just call me Rust. I don't think I've seen you around here before, but then, this is a big place. Were you born here, or did you challenge in?" She was interested, but not in a judgmental way. His answer would not really impact how she treated him, either way.
She thought he was polite, though, and she liked that immediately.
Males here could be so rude sometimes. Reavers, particularly, were a nightmare when they got their heads so big and the idea that all females were there to do their bidding at all times. She hated that some of them opted to treat everyone around them like thralls, even though she was a full blooded member of their home, and deserved a bit more respect than that.

"Rust." His voice rumbled her name quietly. It was different to any he'd heard before. In truth, he'd found that a lot of the pride members did have different names here, it seemed to be yet another thing to add to the list of things that set them apart from the other lions he'd met in the Rogue lands.
Their extraordinary home was certainly at the top of that list, it was almost entirely rocky, and a start contrast to some of the lush greenery he had found as a rogue.
"I will admit I am new, yes." He said unashamedly. Everyone came from somewhere, right? "I challenged in, but I feel I still have a lot to learn." Tendaji admitted. "I like the strength of the pride, and those here seem to be very different from those...outside."

She smiled and nodded her head.
For her, new members were the best ones. They weren't tainted by the common ideas that so many Reavers and other vikings subscribed to when they were born and raised in the pride. They could actually be nice, and interesting, and different: all things Rust loved. She was too easily bored with the common place.
Members that challenged in and fought their way to be members not only earned their spot, but became a source of interest and wonder to her. If she could spend her time on the borders and welcome all of them in, just to find out about them, she would.
But she had other things to do at the moment, so fun things like that would have to wait for a better time.
"I think you're right about that. I haven't met too many outsiders, but all the members here all act the same way. It's not really a good thing, either. But where are you from? I bet you have a lot of interesting stories!"

Hm. This female didn't seem too pleased with the general nature of most members, and it was somewhat concerning that it wasn't the first time he was hearing this. He frowned. "That's not the first time I've heard that..."
He would have to make sure that he didn't fall into the trap of treating everyone like a thrall. Strength and determination was one thing, but he hoped he could separate it from being cruel.
"I don't have too many, to tell you the truth. I was raised by my father, who insisted from a young age that I find a better path in life than he did. He raised me to be strong and to fight and succeed, but unfortunately he was taken by a sleeping sickness." He pulled a grimace, as if to try and lighten the mood, but it looked rather awkward. "But nothing too interesting, I'm afraid, Rust."

Rust was a bit of a proud lady, she supposed, and held herself to a higher standard than the rough pride around her was wont to show her. She supposed she was just spoiled, at the end of the day, and thought more of herself than anyone else did, but that was no crime, was it?
She didn't think so. So she expected more out of life. Who could be punished for that?
"You don't? Well, I think it is interesting, even if you don't. You were raised outside this place, and have seen things I've never seen. That is very interesting to me."
She winced when he said his father died, though, looking sad and letting her ears droop to show it. She was close to her family, as close as she could be, anyway, since she did not know who her father was, but she did not ever want to imagine losing her brother or any of her siblings. "I'm sorry about your father. I didn't mean to bring up bad memories with my prying..."

"No no, it's fine." Tendaji shrugged it off with a friendly smile. The past was the past and that was it. You couldn't change facts. Though it had once been a difficult time, it was something he had grown to accept and it had just made him more determined to find his own path in life and make something of himself. When he found the pride, he knew he'd definitely found something he could excel within, or so he hoped.
Since meeting Rust he was even more excited about becoming a Reaver. It was definitely what he wanted to do, and he was sure he could show that whilst he was strong, he wasn't going to treat every creature like crap, either.
"I suppose something different is always interesting. Hence why I was so interested to make my way into this pride... And when I go a-viking, well, that is sure to be interesting too!" Tendaji imagined it wouldn't be for the fate of heart. He was all up for taking certain things, food, pelts, maybe thralls - he wouldn't treat his terribly, but there were some things, he wouldn't take.

Rust nodded her head and smiled at him sheepishly, thinking she still had managed to step on a paw or two, though she did not mean to and she certainly wanted to be on his good side. It was hard to make friends here, after all, and she was hoping that someone as calm and similar to her own personality type would be a friend.
Maybe she was getting ahead of herself, but still. They seemed to be getting along so far!
"I want to go on a viking some time, I think, but I haven't found a Reaver to take me that has been... suitable. I guess that sounds snobby, but I really don't want to go out with the boorish types around here. I know there are a few good Reavers out there, though, and there is a Captain I want to meet, as well."
Her mother was a fine example of a good Stormborn, though not a Reaver technically. She was still tough and independent, but stressed kindness and an even temper over brash actions and brute strength.
"Maybe when you become a Reaver, you can take me out on a viking some time." She grinned at him, putting her faith in him making the grade.

Tendaji grinned back at Rust. "Well, we sound pretty evenly matched in what we believe, from what I've heard so far." He nodded.
"Don't get me wrong, I am a proud male, and I am a fighter, but I have boundaries too. I've learnt that determination is something I have tonnes of..."
Maybe he would find a few other Reavers that thought the same, from what he could tell it was a mixed bag. You certainly couldn't judge everyone's character from the actions of one.
"When I'm a Reaver..." It was obvious he didn't doubt himself for a second. "I'll take you a-viking, and then we will see your tough side! Until then, you'll have to keep training to keep up with me." He gave Rust a half-serious look.
Yes, he was beginning to fit in indeed, he felt. ((END))
