The patrols had gotten dull as of late.

With the exception of one or two incidents, in the past several months there had hardly been anything worth noting. Aurostibite did what he had to do, going out every night to roam the streets; and while he did find people to drain, it had been noticeably quiet.

Perhaps because he'd been gone for a while, but it felt like the wind in Destiny City had shifted a little. Or maybe it was just that, after having experienced the "memories" of that time in the future, he was looking at things in a different light. He still would not yield to the call of the senshi, regardless of what he had seen, but either way Aurostibite's determination to serve the Negaverse had not waned.

(No matter where his heart lay, though even he didn't know where that was.)

On this particular night, it was snowing. Aurostibite was on the rooftop of a restaurant that had recently gone out of business, crouched on the edge, one hand on the brim of his hat, the other resting on his knee. Dark eyes surveyed the streets below him, lips pressed together in a thin line.

He thought, just for a moment, that there had been a flicker of a power signature some distance away - but perhaps he had been mistaken.

Squire Luxor was out looking for some trouble, which was unusual for him. Usually he was perfectly happy to stay in his Carnival and patrol around there, where a lot of the trouble had already been cleared out and he did not find too many fights on his turf any more. He was protecting that area, and he was dedicated to it.

But tonight he wanted to find a fight, and let out some of his pent up aggression.

Things had been... complicated recently, to say the least, and though he had become a very even tempered person, he still had a lot of unaddressed anger and frustration in him that he needed to let out, before he burst. He could not take it out on the wrong person, though, so he knew that the Negaverse was his best choice. He hated them, anyway, and beating in a face or two on their side might help him feel better.

Or at least prevent him from melting down in an inappropriate setting.

As he walked, he kept his arms folded over his chest, frowning as he walked along until he felt another aura. A chaos aura, and not too far off. His frown deepened, but it was what he wanted to find, so he moved toward it. He was set on a fight, and not interested in talking or making friends.

There it was again.

The power signature flitted into Aurostibite's senses, growing stronger as whoever it was drew nearer to him. Not someone of Chaos - that would have been preferable - but someone else, stronger than his own and more pronounced than a simple senshi, perhaps.

Aurostibite swung his legs over the side of the rooftop and looked down. A glimpse of someone passed into his line of vision and then disappeared as the shadows of the late night swallowed them from view. He frowned slightly, and stood, taking a step back from the edge of the building.

Perhaps it was not wise to start something with someone of higher power than he was, but he would not be doing his duty as a Negaverse agent if he did not at least attempt to make a stand for his beliefs. And whether that led him further into danger or farther from it was not important.

He pushed the brim of his hat a little higher on his head and then slipped down the side of the building through use of the fire escape ladder, landing nimbly on his feet in the alleyway beside it. His boots made a soft thumping noise as he walked, Aurostibite's eyes moving from side to side to determine where the other had gone.

Luxor knew the aura was close, but did not see the source right away as he turned a corner. He paused, looking around, then shifted his gaze upwards. The Negaverse, and a lot of the White Moon, liked to travel by the rooftops. He did not usually go that way, sticking to the ground, but he was certainly light of foot enough to get up there if he needed to. He was well trained in acrobatics, after all, after his years in at his carnival.

Luxor stopped and waited on the street, turning when he heard someone walking behind him. He let the Negaverse soldier get close enough that they both had no doubt where the other was, and soon enough saw the Lieutenant in the darkness.

He scowled. None of his current problems were actually related directly to Chaos, and most certainly not the Negaverse, but he still felt a rush of anger and a desire for revenge despite knowing better. He clenched his fists against his sides, taking a very slow breath.

"Up to no good, I imagine." He didn't much care what the other was up to.

And there he was.

Definitely not a Chaos agent, and definitely not a senshi, judging by the uniform. Aurostibite had only met one knight before, and even then the meeting had been brief and not given him enough time to accurately gauge just what they stood for and what they would do to achieve their goals.

A brow rose, Aurostibite lifting his chin as he gave the other man an appraising look.

"That is," he said quietly, "frankly none of your business."

He wondered vaguely if this was going to turn into something he would regret; Aurostibite's eyes flickered toward the clenched fists, the stark look of unpleasantness in his gaze, and figured that having regrets in general was a weak and foolish thing.

"And I could say the same for you."

Luxor got a lot of crap for his outfit, though he had certainly not been allowed to pick it. He would have preferred pants or something that might cover him a bit more than... well. What he had on now. Which was not much.

And it had not improved much with his upgrade to Squire. He could only hope better things were waiting when he became a Knight.

Luxor did not betray much more than his anger in his expression. He had nothing else to express, at the moment, anyway. All he could feel was how furious and frustrated he was with things, and since he could not take it out in a constructive way, this Negaverse Soldier was going to have to do. Luxor unfolded his arms from over his chest and put his hands together, cracking his knuckles on one hand, then the other, before shaking out his hands and shoulders.

"I don't really care, either way."

He charged forward without much more warning after that, pulling his fist back and hauling it forward in one mighty swing, not going for anything tactful or graceful: he wanted to hit something, and hard. That something just happened to be Aurostibite's face.

And in that moment, Aurostibite was sincerely grateful for the fact that his own uniform was professional and dignified and respectful; unlike the clothing of the person currently standing across from him. The knight got a very slow, very deliberately once over as Aurostibite eyed the wrap around his waist and the belts across his chest - but the only reaction at all was the slight curling of his lip.

If he'd been going to comment at all, it was lost the moment the fist was swung towards his face.

Aurostibite managed to at least marginally enough out of the way to prevent a full on hit, but the knight's hand still caught him in the jaw with a sharp snap. He staggered sideways, his head spinning, pain leaping across his face as he let out a small gasp of surprise.

"That was rude," he said flatly, rubbing at his throbbing jaw. "You don't introduce yourself before you attack someone?"

Aurostibite drew back his own fist, intent on aiming somewhere in the knight's midsection.

Luxor felt contact, pain blossoming across his knuckles from the abrasive and abrupt hit, and was satisfied enough with that to pull his follow through and let the Negaverser get his feet under him. It looked like the Lieutenant would not go down easily, though, as he was still up and able to respond despite Luxor thinking he was down and out.

One punch was not all it too, he supposed, and they were built a bit tougher than that. He doubted much tougher, but he was not in a very generous mood tonight.

"Why should I introduce myself if I'm just going to beat you into a pulp? You won't remember anyway."

That was more chatty than he usually got with his opponents, but he supposed he was in a worse mood than usual. He growled and watched as the Nega lunged at him, moving but not to get out of the way. He took the hit to his gut, but was already swinging his fist in response, gathering momentum and not letting the pain in his stomach stop him from swinging for Aurostibite's own gut.

Turnabout was fair play.

Aurostibite shook out his hand, tingles rippling from his knuckles up and down his entire arm to his shoulder. He hadn't physically hit someone in a long enough time that he could feel the reverberations of the impact in his fingers, which were now aching unpleasantly.

"You're sincerely underestimating me, aren't you?" he said with a slight sneer, Aurostibite sliding one foot next to the other so that he could get in the proper position for another blow. But even as he'd leapt forward to attack the knight, his fist landing where it was supposed to, the knight was already swinging back, his own catching Aurostibite in his torso. He let out a wheezing gasp and dropped down to one knee, the wind knocked out of him, one hand clutching one of the belts around the knight's torso.

"I remember everything that happens to me," Aurostibite snarled, and wheeled one leg around, trying to knock the other off of his feet. "But you are not nearly as worthwhile remembering."

"I'm not underestimating you. I just don't care."

It was simple enough, in his mind. He wanted to fight, and had no problem doing so with this random guy, not knowing who he was or if he was friends with any of his other friends, or something like that. It was always easier to not get the details, and then he could not feel guilty about it later. He was just doing his job, as he was made to understand it.

Simple.

Maybe he was just avoiding problems that had come out a lot recently. The fact that no one in this war was just one person, and what happened to a powered person also happened to a human. Or close enough to human. There could be no separation, he had learned that the hard way. Except he was choosing to deal with that knowledge by completely ignoring it.

Breath caught in his throat from the hit he took, pain lancing through his midsection, he growled as the Nega latched on to his belts, giving him a very bland but deadly serious look at once.

Luxor was very agile for his size, and very strong. He had spent his entire life building his body, and it certainly seemed like he was destined for the life he now lead. He moved his legs to brace himself and opted to haul the younger Nega off his feet by the front of his clothes, before falling forward and slamming him into the ground, falling directly on top of him with his elbows aimed down to drive into the Nega's chest. Luxor often used his size to his advantage, or at least tried to.

So he was one of those types of people. Aurostibite's stoic expression didn't change, but a certain annoyance flashed through his eyes. There was nothing wrong with doing the duties needed for him to grow higher in the ranks of the Negaverse; but not caring about things and just doing them for the hell of it was an irritation that Aurostibite did not find impressive.

His maneuver to knock the knight off of his feet was not a success, and it came with a heavy price; Aurostibite found himself hauled forward and then pushed backwards a second later. His back hit the ground with a thump, his head snapping against it a second later - and the knight's arms slammed into his chest with brute force.

A cough barely made it out of Aurostibite's throat. Head spinning, the air completely knocked out of him, he tried to drag in a ragged breath, but he couldn't quite seem to get enough oxygen into his lungs. His hips bucked upwards in an attempt to knock the other off of him, Aurostibite prying at the hands of the knight.

"Get...off - "

Sorry for the delay. I lost all my tags >.<

"Why?"

Luxor was not one to goad his enemies, but he could not help himself right now. He was, after all, in a triumphant position, pinning the Negaverse soldier down and getting a good chance at an advantage for it. It had been rather awkward, sure, but he at least ended up the one on top, rather than the one pinned and struggling.

He pulled his hand back, anger moving like a shadow across his face, barely there and gone when focused on, but hanging in the air like a wraith.

His punch hesitated though. At this range he could probably land a pretty serious hit if he wanted to, and he was pretty sure he did. But something inside him made him pause, and he found he did not have the same kind of hatred in him that used to fuel his attacks. The more he learned about his enemy, he found, the less he understood. And with all the confusing things going on in his life, it was hard for him to know what the right choices were any more.

Would he regret this fight, come tomorrow?

Instead of punching, Luxor shoved Aurostibite back down against the ground roughly one more time before leaping off of him, getting to his feet and retreating backwards a few steps. He shook his head, but no words came out. It did not really seem like he even intended to say anything.
