Rolling a crystal between her fingers, Cinnabar considered it for a long moment before red eyes slid to the note held loosely in the other hand.

"Everyone has a plan until they've been hit." You've been hit. This is the part where you get up. - Sö

The words were all Stroud... hand delivered by a certain flatlion to the room in the citadel she had claimed as her own. Lazing across the mattress she'd teleported down here, one ankle braced on the opposite knee, the half youma pressed her crystal to her lips and considered again her surroundings. Honestly, she was really tired of the ever-present light and dour, rock walls... and as the note suggested, it was probably time she got off her a** and did something productive. That... and despite her reticence to face a lover in this new form, she did want to see Schörl again. Pulling the crystal away from her mouth, she opened the communication channel, sending it straight to the blonde.

"Schörl... its Cin. I need a chaperone for some training. Are you available?"

Schörl's voice came clear in return, backed by the sound of distant traffic below her position, "Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?"

"I'll meet you at the gate of teeth and claws, since we cannot teleport direct to and from the Rift. What do you want to hunt, my ghost? Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral?"

The sing-song recitation pulled a crooked smile across Cinnabar's lips, one dark eyebrow lifted. Yep. That was Schörl, alright. In high spirits, even... feeling playful.

My ghost... have you missed me, 'luv'? The spark of hope warmed her through and then she felt silly for it. What did it matter what Schörl thought of her merge? There was no changing it now... but the idea that maybe she wouldn't be horrified and disgusted... it was pleasing. It had been a long time since she'd had friends, she found it bothered her to think of losing them over this.

A rumble rolled in Cinnabar's throat as she thought of a hunt, the beast stirring awake in a way that still disconcerted her. Prey was not what she wanted tonight, at least not right away... even as her stomach twisted in hunger.

"What matters it how far we go? I need to test my limits, Beautiful. I haven't gotten a chance yet. I'll see you at the gate." She hummed into her crystal before rolling it between her fingers again and stowing it away. The woman stretched luxuriously, back arching up off the bed. Now was not the time to linger, though, and soon enough she rolled off the mattress to swipe her chain-and-leather coat, tossing it over her shoulder as she headed from the room.

...

The walk to the gate was not a long one... not when her room was in the citadel. Along the way, Cinnabar had shrugged into her coat and now the fur sat warm around her neck, chains heavy around her biceps.

There were no pockets in this coat either, sadly, but the belt around her waist served for a place to hang her hands as she hip-swayed her way towards the door, silver heels make a sharp sound against the stone floor. The motion emphasized the sway of her tail behind her, something that probably would have bothered her had she noticed.

As it was, she was more interested in scanning the area for a familiar green-suited figure as she reached up to smooth a few strands of dark hair back into her ponytail.

The general had the ease of teleporting directly from the city to the Dark Kingdom space without the fatigue it could cost as a captain. Biding time, even as the Half-youma Captain approached, she spun her cane round knuckles and hand much the way a performing drum major would before turning to conduct a band. The dragon was a little weightier and the rattan a lot less than a comparable major's mace. It would strip flesh more surely, though.

Not ideal for lethal combat, but good for the captured. Good for corrections in the ranks. All not meant for all, I suppose. A small toss and catch, and Schörl turned smartly on heel with a click in incline her head at the approaching officer. For all the formality of it, the General's smile was more a leer. A leer that broke into a cackle as she straightened to approach with thrown wide arms, "Captain Cinnabar, but what a price. All is not for All, but me. I've never chased that kind of tail before. But new things-"

"Yes. New things are always exciting," She leaned to the side, having closed to the other woman, taking in ostensibly the new limb. Then Schörl straightened and offered a jacketed elbow out like escort. "Shall we? "

Ah, there... the swing of the cane drew Cinnabar's eyes like metal shavings to a lodestone. It was the movement that caught her gaze, but it was the woman attached that kept it. Posh coat, fancy spats... powerful aura... Schörl, from crown to heels.

"General Schörl." She drawled in greeting as she watched the other woman lean to catch sight of her tail. The appendage flicked from side to side, but that and the little lift of her chin were her only signs of agitation at being ogled the way she was. Its not like she could expect Schörl not to look at her... her new appearance was odd, to say the least, and it was not something she was going to hide from anyone... but still. "The price was for my stupidity, the upgrade was an undeserved boon."

The cackle pulled a fanged smile from her anyway and she straightened up, her posture suddenly shifting smoothly from her usual swaggering bravado to something poised and elegant, all long neck and feet together. Lifting a hand with fingers in a soft position, she set them to the inside of the offered arm with a delicate touch. It might have been in play, but the return to old, learned actions came more easily than Cin would have liked to admit.

"Lead on, my lady fair. If you like, later I can show you what's under the hood of this wonderful new machine I call a body... but first, I need some space to run." Head tilted, she gave her companion a once over. "You don't have something to keep time, do you...? I could use it later. This new outfit didn't come with a watch. Or pockets."

She would forever regret that. She missed pockets.

"Every heart times the day a hundred thousand beats, if you care to count it. But I do have something more mundane," Schörl moved cane to her escort-arm hand and fished a timepiece on chain from some pocket in the folds of coat. "Every uniform has a pocket for you love. Its called your bust."

And they vanished, drawn from Dark Kingdom space to Destiny City. It was one of the many construction sites- steel beams and partial concrete poured floors in the lower reaches that prayed up to the skeletal skies. The General let Cinnabar's arm free from her own, dropping hand sinuously along the curve of tight-clad back. But she grabbed and gave a firm squeeze of tail base instead of backside. "Start running, luv. If I catch you, you won't know if its heaven or hell. We neither like stationary prey. Let's start with a four minute chase. "

Was Schörl... shorter than she used to be? Cinnabar frowned a little as she stood beside the blonde, looking her eye to eye when before she had looked up at her... or thought she had. Strange.

"A pocket watch won't lose count like I am bound to." She said as she eyed the watch, nodding satisfaction. It would do.

The view change from citadel to city was abrupt and the moment fresh air teased her nose, the half youma stirred with a low noise in her throat. Rocking onto the balls of her feet, she lifted her face into the wind and took a deep breath. It seemed she caught more nuances than she was accustomed to, but it was hard to say. It felt good to be out of the citadel and back in the real world... everything down there felt so unchanging and dark, despite the ever-present light. The city hummed with life in a way the Dark Kingdom could not replicate and she found she had missed it.

A hand running down her spine pulled her attention back and she half turned in time to catch the sensation of a squeeze somewhere new and unexpected, her tail lashing once in response. It was... weirdly irritating to have someone take hold of her there and the sensation went all the way up her spine, setting off conflicting feelings in her head. Snaking a hand out, Cinnabar returned the gesture by digging thickened fingers into pale strands and pulling Schörl closer with a low growl. The touch of lips was the same, but there were fangs behind them now and the hint of claws in once-tapered fingertips.

"I'm used to doing the chasing, but I'll fly if it pleases you." The captain said when she released her. Turning in a smooth motion, Cinnabar sprang forward and was off, pushing herself to increase her pace past what she would have deemed her limit as a lieutenant.

Running was easy. It felt good, even, as muscles pulled and stretched. An alley way yawned and she skidded as she made the corner, careening off the brick wall with little more than scrapes on her leathers. Point in favor of her uniform... A tall, chain-link fence was vaulted with ease, a long stretch forward of that letting her push herself to see just how fast she could go. It wasn't going to help shake Schörl with her General's speed, but it would give her a better idea of her own. Evasive maneuvers would come after that.

The General smiled into being kissed, returning the affection easily, Ambition has been your strongest boon and now your biggest failure. We both understand it. Now we move forward from it with the pieces we have. And see what tempering has come of your metal, if any.

"Red light stop, green light go. " Schörl didn't move right away as Cinnabar flew, over the fencing in a more literal sense then the straightaway. Her awareness stretched to edges for auras great and small. None came to mind immediately, though further on their warmup something could flush out. Her voice came softly to drop to the pave, " Green light stop. Red light-"

"Go."

There was a flash of green and gold. Too rapid hammer of heels and boots for human limbs eating up distance. Aerials were kept limited. One minute gone. While they were fun, tested grace, accuracy and landing, they slowed down pursuit by not providing a constant pushing off ground. Simple physics. Similar-same as calculating velocity to leading a projectile, or looking ahead on a curve to make a turn. So strange to make sound. I am no longer used to it, with Barbary often at my side. On my shoulder as a much more useful cape.

There was Cinnabar, soon, not far away. Two minutes gone. Schörl moved to a higher ground path with a path along small porch outcroppings to rooves, "Faster, Sinner."

"Your feet carry further then before, closing the time between your thoughts and your body's reactions." The General pulled her starseed brooch free from ascot, "Catch before it hits the ground!"

The starseed was sent flying, not on a line with Cinnabars current angle to force a pivot. Not on the same vertical, to force a pathing plan.

There was a fair distance cleared before the rap of boots caught Cinnabar's pointed ears and warned her of pursuit, but she didn't turn to look. It would cost her precious seconds, and with Schörl involved, seconds were all she needed.

Waiting for the right moment, the half youma allowed the General to close in, searching for a cross street that she could change course on. If she could manage to not telegraph her intent to turn, she could gain valuable distance on the other woman as her reaction time added seconds to the clock. She wasn't sure how long they had been running for, but her muscles still shifted easily and her breathing was deep and regular. It felt good, as running always did, and the shock up her legs was even less noticeable in this form than it had been as a human. Small boons.

There... a teasing voice to the up and left. She was paralleling her course from rooftop. There would be some bit of slowing as she was forced to traverse that uneven terrain and make the jump from building to building, but it was likely her rank would make up the difference in speed... it couldn't be counted on as the way to keep ahead of her.

The call to catch something brought the fleeting thought of whether or not she should trust that Schörl was simply changing the game, or if the General were using it as a distraction. Either way, though, the motion of something small as it flashed and flew through the air pulled Cinnabar's eyes without her control and the decision to catch it was made in a fraction of a second.

Lengthening her strides, she took two and turned, gathering herself for a smooth leap from ground to roof. She landed and let herself fall into a crouch, muscles bunching in her thighs before she launched herself still further to reach for the gleam as it arched gracefully over head. Surprisingly, her balance through her acrobatics was far better than she would have expected... It was first-hand experience of the rudder effect big cats had with their tails, she supposed. When she landed again, the brooch was tucked securely down the front of her corset and she was off again with a spray of gravel, setting a right angle course in case Schörl had taken the distraction as an opportunity to close with her.

Still, she never looked back, trusting her ears and inner senses to catch warning of approach.

Definite A+ in storage location. I don't think there's a more cushioned chest of drawers in the city. All the better to go fishing it out from. The minimal hesitations in choices was equally encouraging. Cinnabar continued on with speed. Three minutes. You didn't hear anything about the time limit ending, so you at least guessed that the chase wasn't over.

Schörl breath came smooth through a smile growing only wider. The temperature didn't matter. They were built of matchsticks, corpses and strings. The distance between closed more, similar to runners on a track than to terrorists on tar sheets and shingle. The Captain was making good use of the cornering logistics of the tail, but not something else very vital to that very act. The tail was very much at extension behind her. A push of will and Schörl made a grab for the limb.

Once you catch the lion by its tail, though, best be prepared not to let go too soon. The other end's the toothy one. 'If she hollers, let her go'- hah. I don't think the game ends out that way.

She felt the General's aura closing in on her, the dark heat of it washing over her senses with increasing intensity. It was an imperfect gauge, like trying to find fire with your eyes closed, but it gave her some hint how close Schörl was getting. The pounding of her heels helped far more, their difference in strides making a discordant rhythm on the pavement.

Time for evasive maneuvers.

Judging the distance as finely as she could, the Captain set her heels and twisted in a sharp turn, fully intending the dodge she had planned... Except she missed the detail Schörl had not, the swing of her tail putting her into arm's reach far sooner than she had calculated. Cinnabar felt the hand close around the end and their momentum gave it a decent yank that pulled her to an abrupt halt with a flash of pain that went all the way up her back.

Cats have 19 to 23 vertebrae in their tail, but the protection of the spine to the nerves stops at the base. It was perhaps a good cue to do a bit more research into the subject, being that there was now one grafted to her a**. Honed timing was going to have to be adjusted, usual routines compensating for the extra limb... but that would have to come later, because right now, there was still a lanky blonde holding onto her tail and she'd promised dire things if she were caught.

The momentum from the run she transferred into a smooth spin that led her leg as she lashed out in a high kick, aiming above where she could feel the hold on her. One counterbalancing benefit to the grab-able limb... it's nerves functioned like any other and she could feel exactly where Schörl was behind her without looking.

Its dangerous to tether yourself to some six feet of muscle and claws, Lover. My hands and legs are still free, and my reach extends further.

Schörl's head snapped to the side, abrasion splitting open from impact along her cheek with no doubt a bruise to form in the dark hours of contemplation in the following days. The General didn't let go with the impact, hauling with the momentum of it as shoulders followed face the same as with an animator's tutorial. Pulled sideways and down on the tail in a strange version of being tied together in a knife fight- wrist to posterior limb.

But she didn't look angry at the blow. Far from it, Schörl was smiling.

"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, kitten. Thirty seconds."

The grip on her tail kept her off balance as Cin's leg came down and she straddled the appendage. There was blood, but the smile on Schörl's face met with an answering one on the half-youma's. This was why she had called the General and not Galena or Ate or Lellouch... because Schörl could take her best and that was what today was about. Seeing what her limits were. There was no worry about hurting her or endangering her... the blonde was smart and fast enough to take care of herself. It was freeing and it filled Cinnabar with a fierce joy.

I don't have to hold back, never with you.

The Captain lashed out with fists this time, dancing forward to keep the tension off her tail as she grabbed for Schörl's wrist. A punishing grip might put enough pressure on the tendons and joints to weaken the hold... and having her own hold would hopefully prevent more tugging by merit of her arm being shorter than her tail.

She chose not to comment at the playful jibes, saving her breath for the work out and the struggle. Finally, Cinnabar let her knees go out and she met the ground in a smooth, controlled fall to her back, pulling her knees up as she pulled Schörl forward. One hand on wrist and one on tail, she kicked with both feet in an attempt to shove the other woman away and break the hold, releasing her arm in the same instant.

The General didn't surrender her own balance, bracing and lowering as the hand met her wrist, to Cinnabar's fall back or to the pull forward, didn't surrender hold on the tail. Let the other woman clamber on her a** as she liked, and try for the wisdom of the physics. It was an excellent choice, barring her own balance arts and grounding, and Rank chaos infusion. The double kick was solid, if not a classic response to a hold, but tails weren't usually a part of the equation either.

There was no room, but no need to breathe. We're going to need a little ice, I think.

The release of her wrist was the aim and want though, and Cinnabar obliged. The general shifted hand and wrist on the tail to try to put a Siamese crink in it.

"Ten seconds."

Fighting with a tail was fast becoming an annoyance. It hindered more than it helped and it was a new range of pain she had never experienced before. Under other circumstances, she would have enjoyed the ache and strain, little daggers of fire up her spine. Being unable to break the hold right now was just pissing her off and the sharp bend Schörl was giving the tapering end was more insult layered on top of her failure to free herself.

The closest moves she knew to break a hold were to the wrist, but relied on straight bones that her flexible tail didn't have. Leverage was an issue and it was apparent brute strength wasn't going to work either...

Rolling quickly to the side, Cinnabar got her knees under her and lashed out with a sweeping kick at Schörl's ankles, focusing her gaze on her over the fur and leather of a shoulder. This might or might not work, but it was worth trying... she'd have to be quick about it, to beat that last ten seconds.

Concentrating, the Captain reached out with her mind and pulled, draining Schörl as quickly and deeply as her abilities allowed. Another test checked off her list, even if she preferred more subtlety and control when she drained someone. The energy ball formed in the palm of her off hand as she made a grab for her wrist again, struggling to concentrate on too many things at once.
